Muramasa Rebirth DLC coming west in early 2014

Starting with 'Fishy Tales of the Nekomata.'

Muramasa Rebirth‘a ‘Genroku Legends’ downloadable content will launch in North America early next year starting with ‘Fishy Tales of the Nekomata,’ Aksys Games has announced.

Here are some details about ‘Fishy Tales of the Nekomata’:

Tasked with taking a prized tea set to the shogun, Okoi and her brother set out on a journey to Edo. However, Okoi’s family’s chief retainer will stop at nothing to retake the tea set from Okoi. What once was a simple courier service mission just got a lot more dangerous!

And a list of key features:

  • New Weaponry – Unlike Kisuke or Momohime, who use the powerful demon blades to rain death and destruction down on their enemies, Okoi uses her razor-sharp claws as well as a myriad of special powers to claim victory in battle. And by fusing with her companion Miike (mee-ke), she can transform herself in to a truly formidable foe.
  • Enhance Okoi’s Abilities – As Okoi primarily uses her claws to attack her foes, the “Forging” mechanic has been replaced by a skill tree that will allow you to improve and strengthen her various abilities.
  • Meet New Characters and Fight New Bosses – A host of new characters, enemies, and final bosses are present in Okoi’s adventure, as well as her feline compatriot, Miike. The ‘Fishy Tales of the Nekomata’ DLC is chock-full of new foes and evil fiends, all inspired by traditional Japanese folklore!
  • Go Paw-to-Toe with all of the Bosses – Once players have completed ‘Fishy Tales of the Nekomata,’ they can take on all the boss characters in the main Muramasa Rebirth storylines! Test Okoi’s prowess against the toughest foes in the game!

holy shit the DLC is a thing! i thought they cancelled it. still weird that it’s not on the game itself, but i guess Vanillaware was busy finishing dragon’s crown. haven’t played Muramasa Rebirth since i have a big backlog on vita, but i’ll definitely play it next now!

While this is welcomed news, I suspect that it’s unfortunately too late to do anything for sales of the game. The physical release is already being discounted in some stores, and come Christmas shopping season it will probably be available near bargain prices. The announcement of DLC might boost interest a little, but considering that it’s all paid DLC, I wouldn’t bet on it being able to turn the tides.

That took a lot longer than I would have hoped for, but at least it’ll finally be happening. I was almost convinced they scrapped it and hoped everyone had forgotten. Glad that wasn’t the case and can’t wait for it to release.

    Also, dat cat rain!

It reminds me of King Dedede’s final smash is Super smash bros. xD

  • Kevadu

    Yes! This stuff still exists!

I was starting to worry there…

Now to see how much it costs. I want to know what the total cost of this game + the DLC is before I get either.

    $80 game possibly?

    • DrForbidden

The DLC should cost around USD5-6 each character/episode, totalling USD20-24 for all the DLC. This is based on the 500 yen per character price in Japan.

So even if you bought the physical game at full price (USD40), everything will cost around $60. Of course, as I mentioned, you can get the game in some places for significantly less than the launch price now. Play-Asia even has the US copy on sale this week at USD27.

    Getting it on 7th, hehe.
Still glad they didn’t cancel it. I was pretty sure they did considering how much time passed since JPN release.

Looks phenomenal a must buy for me.

Would have been nice of Vanillaware to give us something free for waiting so long. /cheap

Will buy all the DLC though! Really happy with Aksys’ quick announcement of localization too. :D

Looks awesome. Now could game companies go back to deliver full products instead of milking its customers for all its worth?

Umm…it was a full product upon release.

  • artemisthemp

Looking forward to hearing when, EU is getting the DLC

Just got it. Awesome. Pretty interesting(but a bit stupid) premise. That and a bakeneko(nekomata, to be precise, since she has 2 tails) is always welcome in mah opinion.
