WayForward has launched a Kickstarter campaign for an brand new high-definition entry in the Shantae series called Shantae: Half-Genie Hero.
The game, which is seeking $400,000 in funding, is “already confirmed” for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and Steam, and is scheduled for launch in October 2014.
It stars Shantae, a half-genie, half-human hybrid who hair-whips monsters with her ponytail and belly dances to transform into magical creatures. In Half-Genie Hero, all of her core gameplay elements will remain intact.
Story-wise, the game begins when Shantae is awoken from a deep sleep, leading her to plunge into the moonlit forest for answers. In Scuttle Town nearby, she discovers a mysterious trapdoor leading to a luminous subterranean cavern. Touching its waters after a familiar voice calls out, Shantae is whisked away to the Genie Realm. At her feet, a magical seal swells as powerful evil seeks to escape. Suddenly, the chamber trembles and all goes white.
The game will be played out in chapters, with each introducing new subplots, friends, enemies, transformations, puzzles, hazards, and boss fights. Players can revisit earlier chapters with newly acquired abilities to unlock new paths, powers, and plot lines.
