Square Enix developing sequel to Final Fantasy rhythm game?

A new Theatrhythm Final Fantasy title might be on the way. Square Enix trademarked the name “Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call” in the U.S. on August 27.

The trademark is listed for use with “computer game software,” “video game software,” “sound recordings in the form of optical discs,” “audio visual recordings in the form of optical discs,” and the like.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy launched for 3DS and iOS last year.

    iOS probably… :(

Square Enix is very mobile/tablet/social focused now…

Just about every company is very “mobile/tablet/social” focused now. It’s possible to be focused on everything at once.

Square Enix, like other companies, is focused on everything they can reach. They have studios that develop mobile games, but that doesn’t interfere with their handheld and console studios.

No they don’t, they are putting a lot of resources into their mobile/tablet divisions and taking away from their handheld and console studios. The message they seem to be sending is that they don’t want to make handheld games anymore… and their new CEO and President is putting 60-80% (they had a graph detail this, and left very small space for Console development) of their focus into mobile and handheld and leaving very small spaces for handheld and console games (meaning AAA games only). Their Japanese output this gen has been pretty bad excluding handheld titles, and since handhelds aren’t an interest their japanese side will continue to suffer. So besides the biannual Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts don’t expect much more on consoles or handhelds, they aren’t gonna invest on any new IPs on the Japanese side of things.

Also Kagari (she owns NovaCrsytallis.com) said Square enix cancelled like 5-7 games… so yeah, their handheld and consoles games are gonna suffer, and welcome to a more mobile/tablet focused square-enix

Not to mention the ones that they DO release require the intervention of the hand of god(Nintendo) just to get the damn things localized. Even then, they still refused to let Nintendo localize Dragon Quest 7.

but there already is a Theatrhythm on IOS, which was terrible.
I don’t see them making a new one without making it first for 3DS (and hopefully Vita)

      • Kobracon

Paying for the songs aside, it was quite fun.

        • cookiewaffle

for me, the game was all laggy, didn’t respond properly and overall inferior to the 3DS version.
and I was playing with an Iphone 4 which was quite new.
and I never liked paying for overpriced DLC :)

          • Kobracon

Ah well I played on the iPad with none of those problems. I don’t have a 3DS so it was good for me. Sry to hear you had a bad experience with it.

    • Arcana Gear

Maybe a 3ds/ios? given the sales of the 3ds i dont see why they wouldn’t release on it.

      • Unknown

I don’t think they were happy with the 3DS sales

  • Zackasaur

    I love Theatrhythm!

  • Solomon_Kano

Wonder if it’s a sequel or just a re-release with all the DLC songs? The subtitle made me think For the Sequel, though I suppose not every sequel is just a number.

  • PrinceHeir

    please a VIta or 3DS game :P

    • Arcana Gear

Yes, please give the Vita some love!

  • Kobracon

How many more songs can they add though? Theaterythme pretty much had most of them.

    • MasterSensei

Final Fantasy XV and XIV music? Maybe some Lightning Returns? or maybe it’s the remade music from Final Fantasy X? Who knows man

    • Arcana Gear

more music from the series plus the old ones plus dlc, plus new characters and bosses, like a final version of theathrythm. And they really are doing this cause it was a success.

Loved Theatrhythm but wasn’t fond of buying some songs and how they cut many of them off when they should have been longer. There was no excuse to make us pay for cut versions that missed the best parts of some songs.

Game could have done with some improvements in the Dark Notes side of things from what I remember, too. Like, it was a bit too random and such. But I still loved my time with it and might have to go back to it one day. Or I’ll get this version if it releases on a handheld, as well :)

I wonder if this will contain the songs and characters which the iOS has? I just hope this is for the 3DS and the Vita.

    • zeothedeathgod

Hoping its a sequel for 3ds/vita, or maybe a version with ALL the songs (DLC etc) for vita/3ds.

  • Elvick

Still want the original on PS Vita. Tweeted what’s his face about it and some other SE games. If it’s on iOS, I don’t see the issue of putting it on PS Vita too… speaking of, should remember to tweet about TWEWY.

Wonder if this is a sequel, or a ‘complete’ version. Maybe a 3DS version with all the iOS exclusive stuff.
