Rumor: PlayStation 4 virtual reality headset coming fall 2014
Latest report claims Tokyo Game Show unveil not planned. The PlayStation 4 virtual reality headset, first rumored by CVG and Eurogamer earlier this week, will launch in fall 2014 and won’t be unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show, according to a GamesIndustry.biz source.
According to the website, Sony is “making a major push with the technology,” even greater than it did with PlayStation Move. It is said to work with PlayStatin 4’s PlayStation Eye camera for head tracking more accurate than Oculus Rift (pictured).
The current working prototype for the headset, the site was told, looks much like Oculus Rift, but with ping pong balls attached. The design is “not expected to be final.”
The fall 2014 release date is subject to change, according to the source. A Tokyo Game Show reveal is not planned, as Sony “does not wish to distract buyers in the days leading up to the PS4’s launch.”
