Latest report claims Tokyo Game Show unveil not planned.

The PlayStation 4 virtual reality headset, first rumored by CVG and Eurogamer earlier this week, will launch in fall 2014 and won’t be unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show, according to a source.

According to the website, Sony is “making a major push with the technology,” even greater than it did with PlayStation Move. It is said to work with PlayStatin 4’s PlayStation Eye camera for head tracking more accurate than Oculus Rift (pictured).

The current working prototype for the headset, the site was told, looks much like Oculus Rift, but with ping pong balls attached. The design is “not expected to be final.”

The fall 2014 release date is subject to change, according to the source. A Tokyo Game Show reveal is not planned, as Sony “does not wish to distract buyers in the days leading up to the PS4’s launch.”

Wow, if so that would be quite fast. I wonder how much it would cost though. Sounds expensive.

Hope not, really don’t want to die in AFK, when I die in the game.

      the game….comes with every unit?

  • Martian Wong

how much is this thing going to be?

    • Bryce Blalex Douglas

Probably around the same price as the kinect when it first came out.

150? I highly doubt that. The standard one that Sony has just for regular gaming and movies right now costs a grand in Euros. I highly doubt it would be THAT cheap but I would assume around 200 to 300 dollars.

what does is do? that my question

Look up Oculus Rift demos. It basically puts yourself into the game . Think of it as a true First Person experience

Therein making all FPS designed before it, obsolete…

I reckon I could see this working in like a Gran Turismo game. Cockpit view.

Done well, it could be pretty good.

Team it up with the full steering wheel / gear shift / pedal setup – and man, that’d be nuts.

Actually got to try the headset that Sony has in Tokyo last year. It’s connected to Gran Turismo 5 and it’s a awesome experience. Can’t wait for the actual PS4 virtual headset, this is exciting technology!

I bet the only reason they are doing this is to give the PS move a buddy. I bet they will become good friends.

I don’t give a crap about motion controls or touch controls BUT I am all down for virtual reality with Oculus Rift and Sony jumping into the picture. This is the tech I will get behind 100%

    • kuusou yume

I agree. Motion controls, voice commands are dumb. But VR is pretty sweet

If I can play something like FFXIV Sony’s Oculus Rift then fine. They can take my money.

If it’s priced similarly to this HMZ-T3 head-mounted display Sony UK recently revealed, then I would worry about it’s sales since it’s priced for £1,299 (around $2030):

This was designed primarily for the PC and PS3, so who knows what’s the price range for the PS4 version if it’s a different unit.
