tri-Ace developed Phantasy Star due out in 2014.

Sega announced Phantasy Star Nova for PS Vita during SCEJA Press Conference 2013 today.

Developed by tri-Ace and due out in 2014, the game will share the same world view as Phantasy Star Online 2, minus the online elements. The story can be enjoyed by up to four players, and the giant monster “Gigantes” is also set to appear.

More information is due out at the Tokyo Game Show next week. Watch the announcement trailer below.

Yes more Tri Ace! Would have preferred Star Ocean, but this’ll do :)

    • DreamDrop♥

      not after 4

      • Anime10121

But that’s exactly WHY I want another SO! I’ve enjoyed them all (2’s my fave) but 4 was the least impressive of the bunch. I had more fun with first departure than I had with 4, it had a better plot too. Not to say I outright disliked 4 as it was a decent enough GAME, but its horrible characters, creepy graphical models/movements, and all around boring plot ( I honestly can’t even remember what it was about) made it my most least liked entry of the series.

However, one failure doesn’t mean I want them to quit, it’s just the opposite, I want them to come backbigger and better

        • DreamDrop♥

Aren’t you confident. I don’t actually like most Tri-Ace games, so I’m not interesting in them coming back for another. On a unrelated note, I’d much rather have Grandia 4.

          • Anime10121

Grandpa 4 would be awesome too! I loved 3s battle system, a new Lunar would be nice too.

            • DreamDrop♥

Last few lunars were pretty bad…

(think you accidented a word there)

              • Anime10121

Meant Grandia damn iPhone and its”auto correct”.

But I wouldn’t know about the newer Lunar’s as I’ve only played the PSP remake of the first title, but I loves it!

                • DreamDrop♥

Most older series suck now. Especially if they’ve been left to sit for a long time.

  • RyoonZ

    Need this in my life!!!

  • Alos88

So is this a more traditional JRPG, or an MMO style offline RPG?

    • Bryce Blalex Douglas

Probably something along the lines of a mix between an offline MMO and a game like Monster Hunter in that you and up to 3 other people can play together completing quest and stuff.

  • MasterSensei

When are we getting Phantasy Star Online 2? I thought it was supposed to be this year? I’m happy about this news but would it ever be localised?

    • G.

They indefinitely delayed it – the PC version, that is. The Vita version was never announced for localization. SEGA being SEGA. *sigh*

If this was XSEED/Marvelous, or NIS, that game would have been localized in a heartbeat.

  • Elvick

Want it… already tweeted what’s his name at Sony Third Party Production or w/e it’s called about it’s localization. :P

    • Dede Ogbe

yes tell more ppl bout the guy to make it happen!

  • Santashi

Hurrah! Glad to have a PS without the need for constant O. :)

  • ddsfan2

Oh man, this is exactly what I wanted to hear.. Tri Ace should be able to come up with something interesting with this franchise. A non MMO game in this series has been long overdue.

    • jujubee88

Yup. I’ll import the living bajeezuz outtta this!

    • DreamDrop♥

The last non MMO entry was Phantasy Star Universe. :|

      • Mugen555

No, It’s Phantasy star portable 2 : Infinity
There are online, but not MMO

        • DreamDrop♥

I meant non online as did the OP I assume, as the series hasn’t actually been online in a typical MMO style.

  • whiteferrero

    Hooray a new tri-ace game!

  • DreamDrop♥

“minus the online elements” And that’s where I lost interest. I love the PSP/2/Universe games, but I’m not playing them for the story…

    • DreamDrop♥

That being said, if this is just an offline MH clone, I’m in.

      • Mugen555

But MH is Phantasy star clone

        • DreamDrop♥

PSO came out. MH took the formula and improved it. PSP to the MH formula and improved it further. I don’t want this to play like PS, I want it to play like MH. Actually, I really want it to play like RO because that nailed it.

          Also, you’re arguing semantics.

          • TheBlackRabbit

why wouldn’t you want it to play like….a phantasy star game?…..i’m confused

            • DreamDrop♥

it’s already announced to be from the PSU story line which is completely awful storytelling.

              • TheBlackRabbit

so story telling is bad? what about gameplay?

                • DreamDrop♥

Same as the last seven games, I’d assume.

                  • TheBlackRabbit

                    i c so i will enjoy it then, ;D

              • Bobby Jennings

I thought it was from the PSO2 storyline?

                • DreamDrop♥

                  I saw a report that it was PSP2. If it’s PSO2 that’s better.

                  • Bobby Jennings

Yeah it takes place in the same universe as PSO2, just with a more put-together storyline up to 4 players.

  • LordKaiser

Once Vita TV hits the west, I will buy all Phantasy Star Portable games and all the YS games.

    • DreamDrop♥

PSP was delisted from PSN. You missed the boat.

      • LordKaiser

They are still there. Don’t scare me like that!

        • DreamDrop♥

Don’t know what to tell you.
Not all PSP games work on PSV. Valkryia Chronicles 2 is another example.

          • LordKaiser

Ah well then I’ll have to buy a use PSP that connects to the TV for those rare PSP games…

            • usagi_san

              1. VC2 is compatible with the Vita – maybe not on the NA PSN.

              2. Vita TV is compatible with (some) Vita titles, PS1 and PSP titles.

Note: Screenshot from my own Vita.

          • Curan_Altea

Actually those games can still be played on your Vita, you just have to download them from your PS3 and transfer them to your Vita.
            Trust me, it works.

  • MrKappa

As great as this looks it just looks like another chance for Sonic to laugh at their western fans and then offer more Sonic games.

  • fallen

Cautious optimism for a potential system-seller…

Tri-ace could potentially be the best thing to happen to Phantasy Star since the Dreamcast era…

  • Yuri4prez

I love Tri-Ace! I wish a Valkyrie Profile: Hrist was being announced, instead of another Phantasy Star game we probably will never see in the west.

When this game gets a confirmed localization announcement, then and only then, will I be excited.

  • PrinceHeir

so this was the trailer they release back in 2011 :P

    Tri-Ace lives on!
