What lvl is everyone on ff xiv arr? I’m a lvl 13 pug. Love this game!

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Just hit 47 DRG a couple of hours ago. Now I’m going to have to grind a little before I can finish up the story since my next quest requires me to be level 49.

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Very nice. Almost got it at the level cap!

      • iam_yotbox

Alright, level with me guys/gals, is FFXIV worth a shot if you enjoyed Final Fantasy but never played an MMO before? I’ve never played anything like an MMO, so would it chew me up and spit me out?

        • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I think you would enjoy it. It’s very solo friendly. It also helps you ease into things, like MMORPG elements, group events, etc. You can play lots of the game solo.

If you do consider trying it, which platform would you be playing it on? I’m curious.

          • iam_yotbox

PS3 is the only current-gen console I have now. I did have a 360, but there was a deadzone of games I wanted for it shortly after the release of Tales of Vesperia, so I sold it.
It works out fine too, since I heard Square is offering free upgrades to PS4 if you get it for PS3. Not sure about the Xbox side of things.

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Congrats! I recently hit level 20 on my Arcanist. Really glad you are enjoying the game. =)

    • Raiyu

      Level 35 DRG

  • Tac-Mex

Well i guess i will post my 3DS and Vita Collection.

    Pls rate, coment and subscribe!

    • Locksus

Great collection! I’m really jelly about that SMT IV, because Nintendo still hasn’t announced the official European release date.

I’ve also been looking for a cheap PS Vita, but I think I can wait a little while for that. I think my next console is going to be the Wii U later this year.

    • EX+

You have great taste! Especially in JRPGs.
I just hope that we can show off collections as badass as this on the PS4 and Wii U. Oh, I see Samurai Warrior Chronicles! Great game!

    • Charlottes Guardian

Nice collection ^-^ But um, I dont see monster hunter for the 3ds….I dont see monster hunter for the 3ds……my god……..

WHERES MONSTER HUNTER FOR THE 3DS? lol

      • Tac-Mex

UPS, i got it too but i forgot to include it in the pic :/

        • Charlottes Guardian

          I feel better now :3

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Very nice. You have way more games for both than I.

    • Raiyu

Lol your 3DS collection is a lot bigger than mine, I only have 5 games…KH3D, SMTIV, PxZ, Tales of the Abyss, and Fire Emblem.

    • PrinceHeir

wow i didn’t know there was a Code Princess retail one.

btw what game is on the left of Dead or Alive Dimensions?

      awesome collection!

      • Elvick

In NA there was. I think it was digital only in EU.

    • Budgiecat

Out of that selection I have

      Street FIghter 3DS
      Kingdom Hearts DDD
      Shin Megami Tensei IV
      Zelda
      Fire Emblem
      Dead or Alive Dimensions
      Samurai Warriors
      Project X Zone
      Kid Icarus
      Virtue’s Last Reward (3DS)

SW is probably the weakest out of that list that I have

The other games you have I dont really have an interest in but
I figure eventually I’ll pick up Revelations..but maybe for PS3 instead.

I dun have a Vita yet but if I did, I’d probably only get:

      P4G
      Soul Sacrifice

  • Tac-Mex

According to EDGE, the PS4 is 50 % faster than the Xbone, What do you think about this?

    • Locksus

Nothing, really. Consoles have never really been that much about graphical fidelity for me. Ultimately, it’s the games that count.

Plus, I don’t really know enough about specs and the like to give an insightful response.

      • iam_yotbox

Agreed. I always ask myself: what console has the types of games I want? How many of those titles does it have? Is it the cheaper choice (long or short term) than its competition? PS4 wins for me because of the price difference. That’s about it for now.

        • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Disqus wanted to flag all your comments. That problem should be fixed now. =)

          • iam_yotbox

            Thank you kindly :)

      • Elvick

Power isn’t only about graphics you know.

That’s the only reason I want new hardware. So we can get better AI and things of that nature.

        • Locksus

Yes, but from the supposed next-gen videos I’ve seen, I’ve only seen improvement on the graphics department.

It looks like devs think that graphics will be the first thing they should improve on, rather than AI as you mentioned.

    • EX+

A lot of devs have said that it is a 50% speed difference, including an ex-People can fly devs, a team that worked on Gears of War Judgement.
Penello replied with, ‘don’t know em’ so I seriously think it’s true.
Even with this difference, at the beginning of the gen, it won’t be amazingly visible to differentiate the XBO and PS4 versions. Later on in the gen, you’ll see the real difference.
There is a bit of catch though. Devs might castrate the PS4 versions to avoid a business debacle with MS, aside from Japanese devs, for obvious reasons. If that happens, I’m not gonna just sit back and take it.
Games like KH3 and FF15 should be fine though, as they’re being developed on a level that both consoles are not capable of and then being directly ported down. So it’ll be very easy to differentiate the two versions.

    • bloodiOS

It just mean that there will be better looking exclusive titles for the PS4.

    • adhesive

The technology between the two consoles is much closer than stated, the only reason people are saying the PS4 is 50% faster is because of development kit efficiency.

  • Sophitia

After Sengoku Basara 4, I hope Capcom tries some “Anime Basara” like Koei did with Gundam, HnK and OP Musou.

My wildest dream is TATSUNOKO BASARA! Considering Capcom and Tatsunoko had crossover in the past.

    • Budgiecat

Capcom lost the Tatsunoko license because they didn’t renew it. Kinda dumb if you ask me since it ws probably a huge workload to get it all in the first place and the fact that it was localized given the multiple license nightmare source material and lol Capcom was a miracle at best

  • PrinceHeir

so it’s been a year now since andriasang closed

    http://andriasang.com/con2n4/site_closing/

time sure flies by huh? can’t believe it’s been a year now O__O

oh well, what’s done is done.

really enjoyed my time here in Gematsu :)

i hope Gematsu will continue on forever!!!!

    • Sophitia

      No, don’t remind me!

      *cries*

      It’s already a year huh.

    • iam_yotbox

I followed andriasang for it’s last two years before it passed on. It was my go-to place. However, I am glad Gematsu was there to fill the void of my more Eastern gaming focus. Gematsu, Kotaku, and IGN are my triad of gaming news.

    • Locksus

I never visited Andriasang, heck, I hadn’t even heard of it before its shut down.
But I know that losing an important community sucks a lot :(

I’ve frequented Gematsu for like 3 or 4 years now, can’t really remember. I love this place and I hope everyone else does too.

    • PrinceHeir

      iam_yotbox

see i don’t know why this comment was flag as moderation?

this is the same thing happened to my friend who commented here a month or so ago.

for me my go to place is Gematsu(main), allgamesbeta(main as well), and dual shockers.

ncloudblogspot hasn’t updated yet im afraid :(

heard ncloud might have some faimly things that need to be taken care of

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I allowed the comments. For some reason, Disqus likes to auto flag some folks. I can add them to the no flag list, but only if they post first. Gotta have some details to put into the settings before I can add.

        • PrinceHeir

          okay!

glad your here to fix things up Zero!

    • z_merquise

I never knew comments is still open. Really miss Andriasang too.

    • Willgaea

They really left the site with a “bang”. That is if you like those pillows. That whole page is full of puns.

    • Tetsu

That’s when I made the transition to Gematsu, so i guess it’s my 1st anniversary here as well :)

    • ddsfan2

Such a bummer, loved the site…

  • new_tradition

On yet another out of town work trip, but this time I brought my PS3. Damn, these launch systems are heavy, lol. Although I haven’t had as much time to play as I thought I would *sighs*

    • GhostNomad

Been there plenty of times before. When I used to travel a lot, I’d always bring my PS3 along. It’s one of the old BC models so it’s got some weight to it. The part that sucked is that I’d always bring it and then almost always have little to no time to actually use it.

      • new_tradition

Yeah, that’s exactly me right now. I can’t even play it during a break or something, lol. Heck, by the time I get back to the hotel, I’m too tired to game and just watch Netflix or something xD

    • AdamBoy64

I think ‘heavy’ is a relative term – heavier than the redesigns for sure, but you can still quite easily hold it in one hand.

I prefer the original to the redesigns, just because it looks a lot nicer.

      • new_tradition

Nah, I honestly need to use both hands to hold my PS3, but I agree-I love the original design the most ^^

  • Tac-Mex

What do you think about the PS Vita TV?

    • jujubee88

I think it’s my next hardware purchase. (very soon after my PS4)

    • Elvick

I think they should release it in black when it comes out worldwide.

That way when I buy it, it matches everything else I own… aside from the dern Wii.

      • jujubee88

Just spray paint it black :P

        • Elvick

          Ew.

    • AdamBoy64

      I think it looks great.

It’s made me a lot more likely to pick up a Vita.
On a personal level, there’s not enough titles that have my interest, but it seems like a really neat piece of hardware.

    • ddsfan2

I’m down, provided that it works with third party controllers (I specifically want to use it with arcade sticks).

It gives me more incentive to develop for the Vita, too…

  • MosquitoLemon

So I played SMTIV hardcore like I haven’t played games in a long time, hahaha. Almost finished with it, and soon (maybe today?) I’m gonna buy Style Savvy 2, which I totally would have bought a 3DS for in the first place.

  • Xaltmas

I can’t help but feel left out with all this hype for Monster Hunter 4. I’ve bought Freedom Unite and Tri, and tried the demo for it on the 3DS and I still can’t get into it.

    • GhostNomad

It’s not for everyone, that’s for sure. I kept seeing a lot of MH hype a while ago, decided to buy Freedom Unite on the PSP, played it for about 15-20 hours, just couldn’t really get into it all that much.

On the other hand, I love God Eater Burst, I’ve played the hell out of Soul Sacrifice, and am currently working on Ragnarok Odyssey before the ACE version gets localized (is it actually getting localized? I’m not 100% sure).

      • Xaltmas

Yeah, I’ve found that while I don’t really care much for Monster Hunter, I love all the “clones”. I’m just worried we won’t see the big one, God Eater 2. I loved Burst, but Namco has broken my heart before, though they have been getting better.

        • GhostNomad

I’ll tell you right now, if they localize GE2 and bring over that GE2 Vita 2000, my money’s all over it. I just hope it doesn’t come until Q1-2 2014…. My wallet is going to be filing for abuse on 15 NOV >.>

          • Xaltmas

Makes me glad I’ve decided to rock my 360 for a while longer. I actually had a launch day PS4 preordered, but I backed out when I saw that there wasn’t anything I really wanted until 2014-2015, so I went with a Vita instead. Now it’s been Persona 4 Golden all day, ‘erry day.

            • GhostNomad

              Fuck that game.

              No, really. Fuck that game.

              Disclaimer: I love that game.

It came into my life after months of ignoring it while my best friend kept bringing it up over and over and over. Then it went on sale on PSN so I got it, said I’ll give it a shot, play it for an hour, probably won’t like it. Two days later, I’ve gotten about four hours of sleep collectively. I was hooked for 114 hours and that’s just my first playthrough. I wanted to take a break and focus on some anime, catch up on some manga, even work on my ever-growing backlog, but I can hear that catchy soundtrack and I feel the need to play it again and hop on my second playthrough to see everything I’ve missed.

But for now I’m just going to stick to the anime and finish that because some moments have me and my best friend rolling until our sides hurt.

Far as the PS4 goes, I’m pretty happy to be picking mine up on launch day along with Watch_Dogs, Battlefield 4, and CoD Ghosts, all of which will be played with my best friend as much as possible since we’re basically hyped for all the same games :P

              • Xaltmas

I’m amazed I’ve been as hooked on P4G as I have been, given the last JRPG I enjoyed was all the way back in 2008…which was Persona 4.

I remember being mad hyped for Watch Dogs when it was first shown at E3, but I feel like I’ve seen so much of it now I’m just not interested anymore.

Part of me wants to wait until Fallout 4 is announced before making the jump, but who knows how long that’ll be. ._.

                • Budgiecat

Why are you guys listing boring games. Schtaap

    • Elvick

I don’t have interest in MH. So you’re not alone.

I need a story to motivate me. That’s why I loved Soul Sacrifice.

      • Budgiecat

Yeah Monster Hunter is boring. Almost every other MH clone is more interesting. Even Elemental Hunters and Kaiju Busters. Even Fairy Tail Portable Guild and Toriko Gourmet Survival. Even Nano Breaker. Even Earth Seeker and God Eater Burst. Even Freedom Wars and Toukiden. Even Ragnorok Odyssey

    • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

      Not for everybody….

MH is a slow-paced game… It’s about farming materials, crafting equipment and preparing gear before hunting… It”s mostly about hunting monsters, that’s it….

  • EX+

Anyone else waiting for Attack On Titan episode 23.

    • GhostNomad

I’ve known about the anime/manga for a while but never got around to actually watching/reading it until last week. I caught up on the manga in one sitting and then watched 8 episodes of the anime the next day. Damn good read, and it’s got me hooked. I MUST KNOW THE SECRETS OF THE TITANS! Also Mikasa. She’d probably slice me up before I could make an inappropriate comment about her, but it’d be worth it!

    • Locksus

Eh, I lost interest around the twelfth episode. I don’t really know why. It wasn’t bad or anything.

      • shafiq95

its probably the pacing, the second arc is better than the first one…try give it another chance

        • Locksus

          Will do!

    • Revorse

Yessir. CrunchyRoll updates in my area at about 7:00ish. Man, can’t wait

    • Elvick

Still on episode 2. The first was so intense. I prefer more light hearted stuff mixed in. Finished a ton of other anime that I started at the same time. (well… finished as in caught up, since they’re still going… Free! and Watamote)

      • bloodiOS

It does have quite a bit of funny moments later on (but mostly heart-wrenching moments.)

  • bloodiOS

Apparently, most of Criterion Games’ staffs are now absorbed into Ghost Games (who will now handle the NFS series exclusively), leaving only 17 people left in the team. The reason for the split is because Criterion Games doesn’t want to make NFS games anymore. They are now working on their own secret project instead.

Not had a ton of time with ARR because of real life. I’m relearning everything, again. xD

Cool, just followed you. I finally reached level 50 last night, so I just finished my last Dragoon quest and I’ll be finishing up the story tomorrow. This dungeon gives us 120 minutes with 8 players… No way in hell am I trying that now. I’ve already been on for a while as it is, lol.

        • Kobracon

I was a little disappointed that your armor looks the same as a lvl 20-ish armor despite being lvl 50. I expected something….I don’t know, cooler?

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

That armour is actually really… Odd. It’s level 47, but it’s a HELL of a lot better than my AF body piece which is level 50, lol. It was really making my free company members scratch their heads too.

Apparently, it’s unique in a sense that it’s basically tank armour, which is rare for a DRG. This leads me to believe that maaaaaaaaaybe there will be another job later for DRG or LNC that can change into more of a tank with a lance. I’m not really sure what, but it is really strange for them to have tank armour as a DPS/DD job.

I’m just waiting for it to finally update and show me with my Drachen armour, lol. It has the lance and accessories I bought already updated :/

            • Kobracon

Oh it just happens to look like earlier armors but is actually super awesome stat-wise? lol

              • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Yeah, it gives +45 PDEF and +95 MDEF more than my artifact gear, which is nuts, lol. I’m still going to wear the Drachen Mail instead though because it gives Determination and better STR. As a DPS, strength is more important than defense, after all.

                • Kobracon

Indeed. Lol I just realised that I can’t really complain about looks when I purposely logged out while my character was wearing her swimsuit XD

                  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I’ve seen a lot of people in their swimsuits, even some females trying to “woo” me with their wiles and all that jazz. They were promptly ignored. I have monsters to kill, I don’t have time for all that.

Serving justice is more important than whatever a woman is trying to serve me!

                    • Kobracon

People have been wearing the swimsuits into battle? Geez they must have balls…*patiently awaits jokes about that sentence*

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Yeah. I saw people shouting on Balmung the other day about wanting to do a swimsuit run on Hard Ifrit, lol. Fucking nuts.

                    • Kobracon

Well that certainly would be appropriate attire for the….heat.

  • bldudas

I finished Jude’s story for Tales of Xillia. I am now starting Kingdom Heart 1.5 HD. It’s pretty good so far. I’ve never played a Kingdom Hearts game before. (No PS2)

    • Alkhan

I also recently played KH for the first time. The camera control is worse than Sonic The Hedgehog 2006! I couldn’t get into it.

      • bldudas

The camera control is the worst part. I don’t like it either, but the rest is good.

        • Alkhan

I found the script a little cringeworthy as well.

          • iam_yotbox

Back when it first released, it was more the shock of a Final FantasyxDisney crossover actually being enjoyable that crowned it as a hit. Going back after playing later entries shows its weaknesses.

But gosh darn if it doesn’t hit me in the feels sometimes….

  • bloodiOS

So, yeah, I’ve been playing Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix and to my surprise, two out of those three actually runs at native 1080p. There isn’t any anti-aliasing but given the art style, one will be hard-pressed to see any aliasing without actively looking for it. The collection also appears to run at a constant 30fps, so my experience have been buttery smooth. This sure have been an eye-opening experience, loving the efforts that Square had put into this collection. Here’s hoping that the FFX|X-2 collection will also be rendered at native 1080p.

    • iam_yotbox

I was hoping for a good port, so that’s great news for me! Now if Square were to announce 2.5 (with KH2 + Birth by Sleep included), I can get lost in KH all over again :)

    • Budgiecat

      Why can’t it run at a constant 60fps its a freakin PS2 game….

      • bloodiOS

Hey, look on the bright side, it’s still better than the majority of 720p@30fps HD-remasters out there (358/2 Day seems to be rendered at native 720p with no AA though…)

        • Budgiecat

Wasn’t Zone of Enders 2 patched to run to 60fps? And DMC3 runs at 60fps. I believe the God of War games too….

          • bloodiOS

DMC collection is 720p, so is GOW, and ZOE2 is native 720p upscaled to 1080p. Well, saying that majority of them are 720p@30fps might be bending the truth a bit too much, but there really are plenty of HD-remastered titles that aimed for 720p@30fps though, like Killzone HD, Hitman, Tomb Raider, Prince of Persia, and Splinter Cell. In any case, you usually can’t have one without compromising the other. Square Enix deemed that graphics is more important than responsive control feedback and optimized the KH collection to run at 1080p@30fps, and I think they’re right on that.

            • Budgiecat

lol graphics is more important than gameplay

              Sounds like Square-Enix allright…

              • bloodiOS

I don’t think control feedback alone is equivalent to gameplay as a whole… Sure, to many (like high-octane action games, fighting games, shooters, sports games, and racing games), responsive control feedback is essential to the gameplay, but Kingdom Hearts really isn’t the kind of games that need milliseconds precision. It would be great to have the game running at 60fps, but I think keeping the frame rate from fluctuating during battles is already good enough.

                • Budgiecat

Uh it’s an hack n slash action rpg of course control and fluidity is a necessity. It’s one of the main things people got pissed off about in DmC when they made it 30fps as opposed to DMC 3 & 4’s fluid smooth 60fps.
Especially if you had the difficulty up.

                  • bloodiOS

I really don’t think you can compare Kingdom Hearts‘s one-button smashing system with the complexity of DMC. Even at higher difficulty, it doesn’t change the fact that the enemies are still slow as hell. It worked fine back when it was on the PS2, so it’ll be fine where it is on the PS3.

    • LordKaiser

I like more how they remastered the CG cut scenes. Something that most HD collections don’t do.

I wish Sony do a proper Wild Arms HD collection. Wild Arms 5 looks extremely nice on HD.

  • gerald

How long do you guys think is the sweet spot for RPGs? Is there such a thing?

I saw a GAF topic called “Why do all JRPGs need to be 40+ hours long?”
and I thought, are people really complaining games are TOO long now? Personally, if I like a game enough to spend 20+ hours, I’m happy with all the extra hours of content they can throw at me.

    • SOLOmio

      i would like a 70 hours rpg!

    • iam_yotbox

Depends on how the game wants to take itself? 40+ hours has always felt good in my opinion, especially if it’s mostly plot based. I know a lot of RPGs like to get into bonus stuff, but I like it better if that bonus stuff is somehow relevant to the plot.
People complaining about games being too long is a trend I hope never happens (and ends if it’s already started). Next-gen should be about telling us/showing us more for longer, not prettier for shorter.

    • Locksus

      It really depends.
I have a hard time justifying spending 69.95 euros on a 6-hour game, but a game that lasts 50+ hours where the story just drags on and on after the 10-hour mark is no good either.

I’m all for long games if they can keep the story and especially the gameplay interesting.

    • DesmaX

I do dislike padding a lot.

If the game can maintain an interessing story, it can last as long as it wants (The Last of Us), but seriously, when the game just throws some extra hours for nothing (Like, “grabbing 3 keys for giant door” or something), ugh.

And, of course, longer games are more prone to this kinda stuff.

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

      I would have responded with:

“Why does Skyrim have to be 100+ hours long?”

    • adhesive

I don’t think a game’s quality and price should be dependent on the length of the game, but I’d never say that because it gives companies an excuse to half-ass their game.

I’d say the sweet spot is 30-60 hours for RPGs though. Shorter games feel unfinished and longer games often have significant pacing problems.

      • gerald

I agree too short feels unfinished or at least underdeveloped, but I don’t have a limit on being too long. I’ve played some RPGs like FF6, Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, Suikoden, Breath of Fire (I could go on and on) many many times because the 60-80 average hours I spend on a playthrough still leaves me wanting more. When I have a game like Disgaea or Star Ocean that has lots of post game stuff… I easily go into the hundreds of hours.

    • Elvick

I’d rather a game be too short, than too long.

Every game is different. If it’s too long, it can drag on and you just want it to end. Leading to you not liking the overall experience as much as you would have 10 hours ago while you still were loving it.

Oh the other hand, if a game ends too soon… you could just replay it. Unless the story is unsatisfying, then you might not want to. But a good game ending too soon, is something to be replayed. How often do you replay games that you were wanting to end 20 hours before you beat it?

So I think being too short is better than too long.

I’ve replayed every Uncharted at least 3 times. I don’t mind length and don’t think length holds the value. Quality holds the value.

    • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

It’s extra stuff, kinda adds value to what we buy…. What’s there to complain about it?

Nowadays, games take at least 5 hours to complete…. The shortest length of completion time I have played is Journey which is around 1 hour and a half…. Sigh, I wish it was longer though….

    • AdamBoy64

The longer the better, and I don’t think a JRPG could be too long.
I’ve never played a game for 40+ hours (or 70+ for that matter), and gone ‘man, I wish this would hurry up and end’.

Any game I haven’t liked I’ve stopped playing well before that point.

    • Kobracon

There really is no set rule. It depends on how good the story and gameplay is. If its so good, you “never want it to end”. The story could take weird turns and make it awesome, or it could be too predictable and just draaaag.

    • Budgiecat

      Depends on the pacing.

      • gerald

What I like about RPGs is you can set your own pacing. I like to wonder around, explore, fight and collect itmes, revisit towns to see what’s up, etc. I don’t play to simply progress the story at the game’s pace.

        • Budgiecat

I was talking about story pacing. You can’t set that. And with FF XIII there is no exploring until chapter 11….no revisiting either.

          • gerald

Your comment makes no sense. I just described how I set the pace, I do that stuff then advance the story when I feel like it. I’m setting the pace.

I can only assume you’re joking/trolling by using FFXIII as an example, since I was talking about RPGs in general and you specifically chose an atypical example of a JRPG.

Don’t know if this is appropriate here, but I would like to introduce myself to the Gematsu Community. Hello everyone, a pleasure to move into the social side of things, rather than lurk.
I’ve been following Gematsu for about year, and I have enjoyed what I’ve seen from the stories and you guys/gals.
I’m a PS3/3DS owner in the US of A, looking forward to owning a PS4 when they release. Just got done playing through Tales of Xillia and am both stoked for TOX2 but sad that I must wait a year :(
I do hope we can get along and enjoy future gaming news as, at least, positive internet acquaintances.

      Welcome ^_^

  • Locksus

I have a question for all Wii U owners here. I have been interested in the system for quite a while now and I’m concerned about one thing; how does the gamepad feel in your hands? I have quit big hands myself so I’d love to know whether it feels comfortable to hold for long periods of time.
To me it looks quite comfy, but I haven’t had an opportunity for some hands-on time with it.

And if anyone would kind enough to post some close-ups of their gamepads :p

    • True Gamer

I bought the Wii U on launch day and from experience, the Wii U is excellent. As a console I love it. The controller is very comfortable. I have big hands myself, so the width of the controller feels good. Also, it has a good weight to it (which is not bad). Unfortunately, at the moment I cannot provide close-ups on the controller but later when im home i got you. All in all, the console will be getting great games in the future. More precisely, Wonderful 101 is one of those games that will make many Wii U owners proud. Hope this helps until i can provide some pics on it.

      • Locksus

Thanks for the response :) It’s good to know that the controller is comfortable. I love the idea of the second screen and I’m very excited to get my hands on it.

        I appreciate it!

        • http://popculturesocialclub.com/ DreamDrop♥

It honestly should have been a paradigm shift for gaming, but the devs seem too lazy to really exploit it properly. I’m hoping someone has the brilliant idea to start doing HD DS and 3DS games for it…

          • McPoo

Can you blame them? Nintendo have yet to use the Gamepad for anything more than off screen play, and map/inventory (that’s even how they’re marketing it now). It’s hardly fair to expect a third party dev to take a punt.

            • http://popculturesocialclub.com/ DreamDrop♥

Counterpoint: The DS and 3DS exist. they’ve been showing what to do with it for almost a decade.

              • McPoo

That’s true, do third parties make good use of the second screen? I genuinely don’t know, I’m not a massive handheld gamer. From what I’ve seen, the vast majority use it for map/inventory.

And methods used for a handheld might not necessarily translate as well to the Wii U, as you’ve not got both screens permanently in your view.

I’d like to see Nintendo come up with a genuinely inventive use for it, because as of right now it’s essentially useless unless you want to play games without the tv.

                • LordKaiser

And moving objects around etc like the last Golden Sun game.

    • McPoo

The Gamepad is definitely very comfy to hold. It’s light too, so no worries about using it for extended periods of time (or until the battery dies). The triggers and sticks on the Gamepad itself though? They’re pretty bad.

In all honesty, I’ve had my Wii U since launch and its without a doubt the worst console I’ve owned. Have you looked much into upcoming releases, and the consoles OS and online functionality? Everything at the moment is very poor, and certainly doesn’t feel next gen. I’m sure Nintendo will pull something out of the bag down the line, but right now when friends ask me if its worth owning, I just can’t recommend it.

That said, if you know it’s for you and are just worried about the Gamepad, there’s no worries there :) it’s probably my favourite thing about the console to be honest! How are you with a 3DS/XL? The 3DS gave me hand cramps because its so small. The XL is better but still hurts after a while. I’ve not had anything like that with the Gamepad.

    • AdamBoy64

This might (aka. will) get a bit long-winded for what you’ve asked.
But I’ve had the Wii U since launch. (I was a bit annoyed at the time as I got a dead unit the first time – simply wouldn’t turn on – I had to get it swapped.)

Anyhow, that annoyance aside – the big surprise for the console for me was just how comfortable the controller is – it’s a fantastic design.

Definite downer with it though – the battery life in the controller itself is pretty bad. To the point I normally just leave it plugged into the wall all the time. It’s pretty poor, actually.

I’m growing more appreciative of the Wii U in the last few weeks. I think a fair bit of that is due to Wind Waker HD’s release drawing near. It looks like it’s going to be fantastic – really looking forward to it.

I think I’ve got a few games for the Wii U on preorder, so starting to see some movement there. For the most part I haven’t done a lot with the Wii U (eg. hadn’t turned it on for months), but I think those days are over.

One of the things I was pleased about recently with the system was, updating ‘New Super Mario U’ (or whatever it’s called). An update added functionality for the Wii U Pro Controller.

It’s great that Nintendo have a working patch system – and they’ve added functionality like that.

That meant I now have a game that uses the Wii U Pro Controller, and on a downside – I have to say, I wasn’t very impressed by it.
They’ve moved the D-Pad and Analog sticks around from the traditional controller design – and I just found it’s not that good.

Hopefully after more time I might get used to it, but it seems like it could have been a lot better.

      • Locksus

Thanks a lot for the answer! It’s great to know that the Gamepad is comfy, because I was thinking about getting a Wii U at some point. I’m just kind of torn between a Vita and Wii U.

        Decisions, decisions.

I don’t like how some of the tracks sound like they belong in a Lord of the Rings movie…well the main FF XIV tracks that I hear all the time when I’m roaming around. Too Hollywood cinematic sounding.

Good God that sounds FANTASTIC! Why cant modern Final Fantasy have music this good :(

XII was ok, XIII was decent, XIII-2 is getting better, but XIV has some truly magnificent tracks!

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I think lots of the tracks in Final Fantasy XIV, both versions, tend to be more classic FF music.

I feel like Final Fantasy 13 is a new take of FF music. It doesn’t have as many of those throwback FF sounding tracks.

Final Fantasy 12 had a fairly good soundtrack. It had a FF Tactics like sound, but I wouldn’t put it ahead of the original Tactic’s soundtrack. (Just my opinions.)

    • Locksus

The older Final Fantasy titles still have one of the best OSTs around in my opinion.

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I tend to agree. I love Final Fantasy music. I always have since my first time playing an FF game.

I suppose that can sometimes make me a bit biased in regards to the music from the older titles.

do you think the 7th gen(PS3.360 Wii) will be the last next year?

aside from PS3 ports from PS4 games(MGSV, Psycho Break, Yakuza Ishin, Guilty Gear Xrd, Samurai Warriors 4, Thief 4, )

    the only games left are

Lightning Returns FFXIII, Dark Souls II, Tales of Xillia 2, Sengoku Basara 4, Lords of Shadows II,

    possible localizations

    Drakengard 3, Onechanbara Kagura(believe!),

the games they can localize are the Falcolm PS3 games, SHUMPS and VN games(PSN)

so i think the 7th will really slow down after next year.

PS2 i think the last year that they released a major game was 2008 or 2009 (Persona 4 or Devil Summoner 2 Raidou)

in japan i thin KOF 2002UM was the game i was looking forward to getting here :(

PS3 will still be supported due to the connection with PSN.

but as for major games, maybe they’ll release ports from PS4 games and that’s it.

        • Budgiecat

KoF 2002UM came out on XBLA I believe. For whatever reason, the current idiots at SNK Playmore decided to never bring it over to PSN.

      • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

It is medieval though, its magic seeing back kinda, its odd to explainXD

        • iam_yotbox

In terms of the dungeons yes, but overall setting not so much with the whole 2094 NY and peeping back into the past. Difficult to explain as you said haha

          Dragon’s Dogma – towns – traveling = Deep Down

          • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

Well its psuchometry and that stuff is magic XD

I do want towns and stuff

      • Budgiecat

I see a Darker called U-Urogada on this screenshot of Phantasy Star Nova:

    http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/PS-Nova-Scan-3.jpg

He’s from PS02 as you can see on the Wikia: (scroll down)

    http://pso2.swiki.jp/index.php?%E3%82%A6%E3%82%A9%E3%83%AB%E3%82%AC%E3%83%BC%E3%83%80

So If this new game has Darkers the is possible that it is part of the same PS2 universe. Darkers are beings made from dark photons or something that attacks every creature on the universe so you will see them attacking other monsters. I expect things from this game crossing over to PSO2.

I think Attack On Titans could be very appealing to the West, especially the anime. Unlike many other manga and anime for teens and young adults, it doesn’t really have any fan-service and mostly focuses on intense violent actions with gigantic, monstrous beings with lots of blood and gore, which I think would be very appealing to Western (male) audience. The dialogues are usually very straight-forward, without much words-play so it’s easy to get the message across without worrying about having meanings lost in translation. I also really like how both male and female characters are pretty much treated the same way, most likely ending up as Titans’ food or worse, which is good because we won’t have to worry about tickling the side of some bigwig. Also, the anime is extremely well-animated, probably among the best I’ve ever seen, which is no doubt going to be appealing to fans of high-quality animation.

    • Charlie

Why did I get thumbs down for my comment? I was simply asking a few questions about the show?

      • bloodiOS

Yup, lots of heart-wrenching moments. It also shows a lot of character developments. Very worthwhile if you’re willing to invest your time into it.

        • Charlie

Awesome! I haven’t got into an anime show since When They Cry, cheers.

    • LordKaiser

Be careful from telling spoilers of it. I’m still on Episode 13. I will watch the rest later.

      • bloodiOS

Man, I can’t wait for them to localize the Blu-rays, as it has a lot of redraws.

        • LordKaiser

There’s several animes that I want to buy but I like to buy them in boxed collections full sets. so I will be late to the party.

          Currently wanted boxed sets:

          Unicorn Gundam
          Attack on Titan
SAO (still waiting for the other seasons)

          • bloodiOS

Yeah, I mostly wait for full sets myself, but this time, I might just cave.

          • Charlie

            What is SAO?

            • bloodiOS

              Sword Art Online

              • Charlie

Thanks again. I’m a bit of an anime noob lately (I haven’t been able to get into modern animes).

                • bloodiOS

Ah, don’t worry. I personally haven’t watched it myself, just heard many people talked about it.

                  • Charlie

Well, since we’re on the subject of anime, what’s your favourites?

                    • bloodiOS

For series, I would say Attack On Titans. I don’t think that I’ve watched something this good in years.

                    • Charlie

So it’s that good, ‘ey? Mine without a shadow of a doubt, is Evangelion with FLCL at a close second. In terms of films, I love Satoshi Kon (Perfect Blue, Paprika etc.) and Studio Ghibli (of course).

                    • bloodiOS

Well, that’s why I said series, nothing beat Ghibli when it comes to movies or anime in general (maybe except for Tales from Earthsea and other potentially dreadful stuffs from them that I haven’t watched.) Before this though, as far as anime series are concerned, nothing could ever touch Doraemon in my opinion.

                    • Charlie

I don’t think anyone’s going to disagree with you there. But I recommend Satoshi Kon if you want the highest quality anime drama and thriller films. Black Swan basically stole the entire premise of the film from Perfect Blue. The director, Darren Aronofsky, even recreated one of the scenes from Perfect Blue in his earlier film Requiem for a Dream.

                    • bloodiOS

I wasn’t mentally ready when I watched Perfect Blue and Paprika XD

                    • Charlie

LOL! The first time I watched Perfect Blue I had no idea what happened!

    • 罪罰

I agree. Toonami should pick it up right now.

      • LordKaiser

If they don’t censor it like they did to Ruroni Kenshin when it was Adult Swim.

    • Kobracon

I feel the same way about JoJo, but sadly the way the characters are named and how the author won’t budge on name changes, it will never come over.

Attack on Titan definitely would have a much higher chance. I have no doubt it will get localized

      • Budgiecat

Especially Prince. He’d probably be the first to sue.

Maybe Araki should go on a good will visit to all of them like he met Clint Eastwood. I mean, it’s not like he doesn’t have all the time in the world…..dude is a vampire..

        • Kobracon

Exactly. Hes got all the time in Za Warudo

    • Budgiecat

The same coulda been said for Fist of the North Star, Saint Seiya and Berserk, yet none of those took off in the West.

I think Anime is dead in the West now….: /

      • Anime10121

Naw, anime isnt dead in the west, its just that anime is only one of two things in the west, Dragonball or Pokemon.

        • Budgiecat

In other words, dead. You realize how old those franchises are and how much they’ve beaten their dead horses

        • Robbyfishersora

Don’t forget naruto that popular over here. Maybe one piece too.

          • Anime10121

Neither is as popular as DB or Pokemon, as evident by DBZ STILL being played on TV/cable, and Pokemon still airing new eps on Cartoon Network. Wheras Naruto Shippuden got cancelled, and is only being streamed on Neon Alley now (though OG Naruto’s still on Toonami).

    • GhostNomad

Unfortunately the only ‘anime’ I hear about in the West is MLP >.>…..

However, I do agree about AoT. It’s a damn good show, but I read the manga before watching the anime, and I was hoping the anime would be as gory as the manga. Alas, that’s not the case, so for anyone interested, check out Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) and read the manga for the full experience.

      • Robbyfishersora

        what MLP? my litte pony?

        • GhostNomad

That’s the one. Only animated show I’ve ever heard people randomly talking about while walking down the street. Hell, I even overheard three dudes’ conversation about cutie marks at a bar.

          • Charlie

            Bronies are pathetic.

    • Xaltmas

Same here. My laptop has dodgy battery life (it lasts for less than two hours). Oh, and welcome to Gematsu :)

      • LordKaiser

Do you leave the power cord connected long way after the battery is charged?

        • Charlie

Hmmmmmmm, I don’t think so. I mean it happens on occasions, but not regularly enough to do any damage. Would you happen to have any tips?

          • LordKaiser

It depends how long you have been using the battery. they have a life period and that depends on the components used and the manufacturer.

            • Charlie

How much would it cost to replace the battery (I use a moderately priced HP laptop)? Sorry for all the questions, I’m just not technologically savvy at all.

wow i haven’t even opened my copy yet!!

it looks like the game is kinda short?

      • Kobracon

I bought it on PSN 2 days ago. Downloaded it and started playing with a buddy yesterday at around 9pm and played till 2am nonstop. Next day (today XD) played it for a few more hours and finished.

I’d say a solid 7 – 8 hours normal playthrough (not collecting everything, just playing) But even if the game were 5 hours long,I would have loved every SECOND of it. The second the game starts, it just OOZES presentation.

The whole mock play theme and puppets and props is used with fantastic animation and amazing looking graphics. It was just so….fun. So creative. It was like PLAYING a great Pixar movie. Its not deep, its not philosophical, its not all that challenging either, but its just so fun that I enjoyed the ride from start till end.

So, I’ve been two weeks without internet, and the only things I had to tide me over (besides being asked over and over again by everyone I know if I had my internet back yet >__>

Seriously Valverave (AKA Valverave the Liberator) hit really hard, it’s got funny elements, random (but character appropriate) stupidity and actual downright awesome characters and storytelling all in abundance. What’s really nice though is it’s exciting and keeps you thinking the whole time without being confusing. I’m really, REALLY looking forward to the next season. Also, I tried Attack On Titan and I just couldn’t get into it, especially as the ‘Titans’ are some of the worst designed enemies I’ve ever seen, just giant lanky looking naked dudes, no thanks. I know, I KNOW, there’s way more to it than that (and there’s a very good reason the titans look like that, hell one of the main characters… *edited to avoid spoilers*), but no, I couldn’t get into it, and if a show hasn’t got me hooked 3 episodes in, it’s game over.

Valverave on the other hand, I had trouble NOT watching the next episode, from the very beginning, and as for the actual Valveraves… well, if you like mecha in general, Gundam (and it’s flashier offshoots/variants) etc., you’ll probably like the Valveraves. But as awesome as the fights and mecha are, it’s actually the characters that truly shine. They’re all messed up in their own unique way, some more awesome than others, and all of them feel ALIVE. Which is something I couldn’t say about Attack on Titan, at all.

Thinking on it, Valverave, in my humble opinion, is to current anime what Twin Peaks was to television when it first came out. It’s that refreshing, like a cool, sprightly breeze rushing in to a musty, stale room. I do like anime, but Valverave has made me realise how dry and generic a lot of it has become. You could argue I need to broaden my horizons, watch even more current anime, and you could be right (though there’s no way I have time to watch everything). I still haven’t gotten around to Danganropa for example and that LOOKS awesome, even just in concept alone, but still, I’d say the same to those that haven’t seen Valverave. If you’re in the mood for cool mecha, fascinating characters and genuinely insightful politics, not to mention a storyline that manages to flinch from past, present and future and then back again without seeming convoluted, Valverave is where it’s at. Also, COFFEE REALLY DOES TASTE BETTER WITH SUGAR. If you haven’t seen it yet, you’ll understand that last line when you do. ;)

Games: Okay, a little disclaimer: I know many people LOVE The Last of Us without any conceits whatsoever and that’s okay, I’m not arguing with you guys or even saying you’re wrong, I haven’t the energy to be blunt. What I’m about to say is just a reflection of how I feel plus that fact that, outside of Blood Dragon (yes the FarCry3 ‘offshoot’), I suck at stealth, and when I say suck I’m talking V8 powered Dyson vacuum cleaner levels. But that being said, here’s my ‘review’ of the game, done in the style of an sarcastic advertisement, just… because… O_o

Hey there kid, you want stress!?! Then you want The Last of Us! ^_^

Stare in shock as you realize you can’t do ANYTHING USEFUL in the pause menu. Shake your head in disbelief as your character is mauled IN REAL TIME as he takes exactly TEN SECONDS to reload a FU$^”^ING gun! Scream as your character gets killed again as he sits in position applying a bandage. Scream AGAIN as you realize the same stupid rule applies to reloading!! Contemplate throwing things as you realize the inventory screen can also only be accessed in real time (as you’re getting your face literally ripped off… in REAL TIME!!!) Contemplate killing people (yup, real people, how’s that for irony) as you realize that the ‘clickers’ ~(also known as mushroom faced c*nts) are impervious to EVERYTHING except shivs (that you have to sit still and make… in REAL TIME) and gunshots from the more powerful guns (which also attracts every other ‘clicker’ in a 10 mile FUC*ING radius)!?!?!?!?

The Last of Us, because PAIN has a NAME! O_O
Play it for the story, stay for the… no, NO, just play it for the story then get the f*ck OUT, seriously. >_>

AHEM. I did censor myself a little but if the mods think it’s going a bit too far still feel free to edit or just ask and I’ll happily amend the post myself, thanks. And again, I’m totally aware my feelings about Naughty Dog’s latest opus might be more telling of my own ineptitude than anything else. But seriously, even stealth fans I know have confessed to being a bit perplexed by the levels of difficulty in that game. :P

And finally, DRAGON’S CROWN!!! Well, I’m really, REALLY late to the party (no pun intended). But yes, I love it. Apart from a few of the cheaper bosses (what’s with people disappearing only to reappear in a different part of the screen in the middle of a fight!?! And repeatedly at that!?! Really!?!? That doesn’t make you look tough or scary, just annoying and cowardly! Stupid Arch Demon… >_>)
    *coughmakingitobviousIsuckatgamesagaincough*

Anyway, the odd annoying boss aside (really, I find the Red Dragon an easier fight than that stupid Arch Demon guy), the game hits the spot on so many levels it’s not even funny. I’ve got all kinds of mixed feelings about DLC, but in the case of Dragon’s Crown, I look forward to new levels and/or new playable characters. DLC is normally a cheap shot on the part of developers/publishers that want to make a quick buck off of elements which should have been a part of the original game anyway. But in the case of Dragon’s Crown, it’s a very complete game, yet has you screaming for more the deeper you get into it. (That Warrior Monk has great potential for example).

And yes, I main the goddamn Amazon, and I use the butt smash at every available opportunity. And as a wise woman once said ‘those that don’t like it, are invited to kiss it’. ^_^

    • Azuardo

I will respond to your ‘Games’ part, because I don’t watch anime :) I played both of those games in the last couple of weeks, as well!

      Re: TLOU.
You know, I have a mate that played this before I did, and he pretty much had the same problems that you did. Complained about the length of reloading and making things and stuff, and I can see why that is a problem. I asked him if he thought the game was difficult on Normal mode, and he said it was. So I actually ended up playing it on Easy because I really just wanted to see the story. Truth is, while it was definitely easier than Normal mode was, there was still some difficult parts, and I was kinda thankful for that. But when it came down to the real time crafting and all of those other problems that people had, they weren’t actually problems for me because of the Easy mode. I have to wonder if the game is better off played in Easy than Normal, because I know that some people have been put off by the game for the reasons you mentioned. I know it sounds sissy, but I think if there are people that really only want to try TLOU for its story, definitely try it on Easy mode. Yes, it’s easy, but there will still be deaths as well. It’s not like the Easy modes of Uncharted, for example; it’s still kinda difficult in parts.

But yeah, I did play it through on Easy, but I have to say, I still came away with one of the best game experiences I’ve had for many years. It is definitely the game of the generation for me, alongside the Mass Effect games. I have this urge to replay the game all over again…perhaps on Normal next time. But first I want to give it to my brother because I really want him to play it, too. It deserves to be played by all.

      Re: Dragon’s Crown.
I had no idea what to expect with DC, but it’s been really enjoyable. I was surprised to learn that even when you get all the talismans on Normal mode, you’ve actually hardly started the game lol. There’s really a lot to do, and I never expected that. I went straight in with the Sorceress (cheap Square + Circle mashing ftw) and managed to play online a few times with another Gematsu reader. I want to play again actually, because I want to get the talismans on Hard mode now. But yes, I am really enjoying this game, so if your internet is back working now, maybe we can try and play together at some point? Well, my PSN is Azuardo anyway, if you want to add me :)

      • http://www.di.fm Spicy Chicken

        Thanks for all that. ^_^

RE: TLOU, I won’t reply to everything as I’ve already written WAY too much and I need to get off the comp (see my reply to McPoo above) but yeah, had I know Normal actually meant Abnormal, and that Easy in this game actually meant ‘Normal for Most People That Aren’t VERY WELL VERSED in These Games’, I would have chosen that, even though as you say ‘Easy’ brings to mind all sorts of negative connotations. However, I’m so far in now I’m not sure I care to play through all that again, such bad memories already. >__> ). Not to mention some of the quests stipulate that you must do them solo.
Once I’ve done that though, look out for the Amazon that keeps leaving her axe behind on purpose! And thanks again for the comment. ;)

        • Azuardo

Ooo, I hope I don’t end up having trouble with Sorceress in the later parts in Hard mode, then… Do you perhaps have any tips for the fastest ways to boost EXP and treasure? I know you can pray at the statue to get bonuses before going to the dungeons, but is there anything else I should know?

I ended up playing local co-op with a mate last night, and he started as a new LV1 character, but the thing was, he kept dying all the time. I realised afterwards that I lost loads of cash reviving him all the time, so it would be really handy to know of any cool tricks to boosting money, and of course EXP. Is it really just a case of continuing to play dungeons one after the other to take on those 100%, 150%, etc bonuses?

Anyway, no rush about the online but hopefully we can play soon!

          • http://www.di.fm Spicy Chicken

Ah yes, playing several dungeons in sequence is by far the easiest way to level EXP and gain money, especially if you’re fussy about what items you keep at the end (LOADS to sell). Oh, and also, make sure you level up the Money is Power and the Wealth to Health skills. They make a HUGE difference, although you probably already knew that. Also, canvas every screen for spoils, as you continue adventuring the value goes up drastically, and will increase your score, health etc. ;)

As for people dying, harsh as it sounds, I would just let them die and so long as ‘Join On’ is selected the CPU will randomly fill in at one point. Only played it online once so far and it was loads of fun, but I don’t know how long it takes the CPU to fill in when you do.

            • Azuardo

Crap. This sounds dumb but I think I forgot about those money-related skills. I had been focusing so much on other certain skills that I just completely overlooked them. I will definitely level those up next.

You’re right about just leaving them to die sometimes. I guess in the heat of boss battles I don’t want to wait around for another character to join and often just revive them. But during dungeons, yeah, I should just let them stay dead until a new one arrives.

Thanks for those tips :D I will put them to use next time!

              • http://www.di.fm Spicy Chicken

                Welcome. ;)

And yeah it happens, don’t worry. I think one of the weaknesses my Sorceress has is I maxed out the ‘Giant Boulder’ skill (not it’s real name :P), and so one of her three main spells is almost useless in a boss fight now (it’s really only for crowd control), whereas I should have focused on the Thunder Cloud (or even the Ice Prison would have been more useful). >_>

I can understand panicking in the middle of a boss fight as well. When I first started out I actually got into one battle where I spent so much reviving one of my party (and a CPU member at that!) that I actually LOST more money than I gained on the results screen! *GIANT FACEPALM*

I did (almost) make back the money selling spoils I’d earned but daaaaaamn did I feel silly. o_o

    • McPoo

I don’t really get the complaints regarding TLOU’s difficulty. Granted, I only played on Normal, but I found the difficulty fair and not really too challenging. There were a couple of places where I died a lot, although that was because it was too dark to really see properly. Otherwise, as long as you take your time and use your items wisely, you can get through unscathed or even unnoticed quite easily.

The problem with not moving while reloading or bandaging didn’t bother me either, as I never needed to move while doing these things. I was always behind cover, or scampering off to hide and heal. I dunno why, but you can move while doing these things in multiplayer though >.>

Again, don’t really see the criticism with real time inventory. Have you played games like ZombiU or Alone in the Dark? As long as it’s handled well, it’s a great way of ramping up tension. You can always upgrade your inventory too, to make everything much quicker.

And with the shooting, it’s fairly obvious that firing a gun is going to attract every enemy nearby that operates on sense of sound alone. If you’ve got to the point where you’re fumbling to reload (I take it you can’t swap to another weapon?) as clickers close in around you, you might as well just reload the checkpoint, as you’ve done it wrong.

I know you’re aware that your issues are more down to you not being great at the genre, but I really don’t think any of the decisions ND took here are a problem, with the exception of maybe needing to move while reload. Did you at least enjoy the story? :p

      • http://www.di.fm Spicy Chicken

Thanks for the response. In the same way you don’t get the difficulty being the problem, I’ll probably never truly ‘get’ the fact that you (and many others) don’t find the difficulty a problem either, I guess it’s just down to what you’re good at. Like Street Fighter, a lot of people don’t ‘get’ how I’m able to play the game so well using relatively simple and basic (but very well timed) moves, often beating supers etc. with a simple roundhouse and so on, but it’s something I’ve always felt very comfortable with. I’m not great by any means, certainly not EVO material (pfft… :P), but I can hold my own, especially in the older games where it was less about memorizing hundreds of moves, and more about mastering a few simple ones (in that sense the older fighting games were more realistic too).

Anyway, I’m digressing sorry, back to TLOU, you’re clearly well-versed/good at these games, which is great, but speaking for myself this is very much outside of my comfort zone. I usually stick to simple, fun games, and IF they have a great story (like Einhander or even Klonoa, which was a nice surprise if kind of sad at the end), all the better. But again, to me a game like Street Fighter is fairly simple, yet to someone who doesn’t normally play fighting games I can imagine even that would be quite daunting. Now, that’s not to say I NEVER play adventure games, there was a time when I used to play them all the time, but it’s been a very long while since I have, and they’ve changed a lot since then, and in my (again humble and unskilled) opinion, not for the better. I KNEW the whole real time inventory etc. stuff was for added challenge/atmosphere/realism the moment it hit me, and frankly I don’t agree with it, never have and never will. My approach to games design (or rather, my opinion of it) is thus… if it’s fun, great, keep it in the game, if it’s not fun but actually very stressful, then bin it, realism be damned.

Of course, this then opens a much larger can of worms which is really at the essence of my review (and your defense of Naughty Dog, whom I wasn’t attacking by the way, not that it matters), which is what constitutes ‘fun’ in a videogame. A lot of people (never the majority as we know from mainstream sales etc., but certainly in gamer circles a large number) love the ‘fun’ of an intense challenge, and that for them is one of the main draws of the game, the whole ‘pleasure and pain’ thing. They don’t feel they’ve really achieved anything playing the game UNLESS it’s difficult. And then there’s the stereotypical ‘mainstream’ gamer (if you’ll pardon the oxymoron), who practically wants the game to play itself.

Now, my problems is I fall somewhat in the middle of that theoretical divide. I totally get that there has to be a degree of challenge for the game to be satisfying. In fact I normally play fighting games on the highest difficulty setting for that very reason, I don’t feel as if I’ve really beaten the CPU unless it’s doing it’s very best to beat me down in kind. At the same time though, I feel many games (TLOU no exception) push that aspect WAY too far, to the point where the game becomes less of a fun experience and more of a trial of patience, and I’m not as patient as some, nor as skilled as others. That being said, you kind of prove my point in your reference to all those other adventure games you mentioned, you know your stuff, and that’s fine, but surely the fact you need to know your stuff to play TLOU in the first place prevents a wider audience from enjoying it, which to me is a shame. And having to play the game on ‘Easy’ seems demeaning and kind of backwards, although, had I known it would be THIS hard even on ‘Normal’, I would have done that in the first place, no question, but now I’m way too far in to be doing that. >__<

    • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

      Ooohhh… A discussion? I would like to join in as well…. ^_^

Let’s start with TLoU.. I read your problems and I’m not against it at any other way… Yes, there are times I came across obstacles that are next to impossible to go through… Like when I’m in a dark room with chubby infected and some goons…. Have you played Uncharted? Naughty Dog wanted TLoU to be more realistic, gritty, violent and dark unlike Uncharted… I’ll start with with some of your problems…

“Shake your head in disbelief as your character is mauled IN REAL TIME as he takes exactly TEN SECONDS to reload a FU$^”^ING gun!”
Well… You are playing as an average joe who tries to survive a harsh world without military experience… Plus he’s an old man…

“Contemplate throwing things as you realize the inventory screen can also only be accessed in real time”
Who says surviving is easy? ND wanted you to feel stress… They want you to make choices and in this case, on what to craft the things you need…

“you realize that the ‘clickers’ are impervious to EVERYTHING except shivs”
Not really… I killed some of them with melee weapons before… Just be sure that the weapon has enough hits and strike first….

“But seriously, even stealth fans I know have confessed to being a bit perplexed by the levels of difficulty in that game. :P”
As a stealth fan, I run away, hide and improvise… Just gonna on pure stealth most often fails and ain’t enough to get past a level… You have to get into a gunfight sooner or later… Even if you are not a fan of stealth, running recklessly into enemies with guns blazing isn’t always a good idea… It’s good to pick some goons off with stealth so that you have less enemies to deal with when things goes wrong…

How’s the story btw? If you want to know more about how and why ND approach TLoU with those aspects you said, watch the interviews/development series on Youtube…

My advice: When you’re stressed with playing a game, turn off the game and go do something else… When you come back to it, you might become more relaxed and focused… It works for me when dealing with difficult situations in games..

      • http://www.di.fm Spicy Chicken

Thanks, I think I addressed some of your points in my reply to McPoo, but yes, I actually stopped playing the game and went on to Dragon’s Crown instead… and kind of never looked back, ahem. >_>

Rest assured I will return though, for the story if nothing else! Also, the things I hate about the game are totally in keeping with the survival/realism theme, I do understand that don’t worry, I just don’t particularly enjoy them. I’m basically in uncharted territory (sorry, terrible pun >_<) and really have no business playing the game, but it is what it is. If it wasn't for the story and the interesting characters I never would have bought it frankly. In fact, if I'd known more about the gameplay mechanics ahead of time, I might have avoided it!!! However (and this really is ironic) after the first few previews I avoided the trailers and in-depth dev discussions because I wanted to not spoil the story any further. But it turns out that may have not been such a wise decision in this case. Still, I will complete it one day (hell, I may just have to go back and do the whole thing over again on Easy as Azuardo suggested, *sigh*, and I was so far in…)

But yeah, the story is really good and very well told, it's just not my type of game I guess, my 'adventure game' days are truly over. Ah, I still remember Resident Evil 2 and Silent Hill so fondly… :P

Oh by the way, not that I don't believe you, but every time I've tried to use any melee weapon other than a shiv against the clickers it resulted in almost instant death!! To the point the death scenes went from shocking/funny to boring/annoying really fast. I'm sure again it's my own ineptitude at work though. You'd probably watch me play the game and say "Dude, HOW are you dying so fast?!?! That's… almost impressive!!!!" :P

      • http://www.di.fm Spicy Chicken

Hmm, I did respond to you but my response has dissipated into the ether!?!? O_o

Anyhow, I do appreciate that the things I hate most about the game are for the purposes of realism/challenge/suspense etc., don’t worry, I just don’t like those aspects all the same.

And to be honest, had I known more about those mechanics I may not have even purchased it, but due to the story and characters I decided to go for it some time ago, and even worse, for fear of avoiding spoilers I chose to stop watching trailers/dev talks after the first few videos. Ironically had I researched it a bit more I may have chose differently. Instead, I’m now in uncharted territory (terrible pun is terrible!) and must make do with my lot. Much like Joel actually. Well, sort of.

All that being said though I do plan on returning to it at some point if only for the story. ^_^

Oh, and if any melee weapon is used other than a shiv those ‘clickers’ kill me instantly. I’m sure you’re right, but that’s just how it is for me. Indeed, if I did a YouTube video it would be quite amusing for many, I can see the comments now…

“Dude, HOW are you dying so… fast!?!? That’s almost impressive!!!!”

“Wow man, WOW, if there is an apocalypse you are NOT welcome on my team!”

“You’re suicidal, right? You can get help for that, really… videogame characters DON’T HAVE TO DIE IN YOUR STEAD!”

“Admit, you like seeing those death animations, don’t you?”

“Are you playing the game whilst suspended upside down!?! Cos’ you know… that would explain ALOT…”

        etc. )_)

        • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

I know you like games that are just gamey…. Some developers chose the realistic route while some chose the other…. I’m happy we get to get both….

          Those dying comments?

They have never seen demon souls or dark souls, haven’t they? Fans of those games like they enjoyed it despite dying a lot…

My man!. Fellow Amazon’s UNITE! *digital fivez!*

My god, Killzone Mercenary on ps vita is amazingly gorgeous and more fun than any console shooter I’ve played thus far. As vita owners, I oblige you all play this game. Graphically, its KZ3 mini on a handhled in terms of visuals but in terms of gameplay, it out beats any of the KZ games Ive played.

  • shogunknight

Took out Artorias (was amazed he was inspired by Berserk mangaka, he actually moves like Guts) , killed Manus (that boss was like on constant Otedama), killed Lord Gwyn, finished Dark Souls. That game was made to be played multiple times, and it gets harder each playthrough (already at Ornstein and Smough 2nd playthrough, really difficult now). Now im ready for Dark Souls 2. I dont think im ready to play GTAV right now, maybe till the hype dies down. Wonder what gaming sites would put as their game of the year this time around, hmm…hmmm

    • Locksus

I absolutely LOVE Dark Souls. It’s one of my favourite games of all time. Not only is it challenging and fun, but the atmosphere, lore and game mechanics are all great.
Some of the boss battles are very fun and actually hard. I had a hard time beating Ornstein and Smough the first time. Artorias was even harder to me.

      I cannot wait for DS2

      • shogunknight

Yeah, died quite a lot of times by Artorias. But it wasnt as bad as Ornstein and Smough, spent almost 3 months because of them :( . Did you happen to go to the Lake where theres a huge dragon, saw it in the wiki. I think ill go there when i play it again

        • Locksus

Yeah, I discovered that place on my first playthrough.

  • Locksus

Holy damn! Kid Icarus just never ceases to amaze me. I picked it up on a whim a little while ago and had next to no expectations towards the game.

Now it’s one of my favourite games of the last few years. Its music, witty and genuinely amusing dialogue and tight gameplay really impressed me. Once you get used to the controls, it’s just amazing.

    • Bobby Jennings

      Yeah, for right-handed people…

      • Xaltmas

Shit, I’m right-handed and it cramped me hardcore. When you have to include a stand with your game, maybe you should rethink things.

        • Bobby Jennings

It’s so uncomfortable when left-handed. I couldn’t even enjoy the game as much as I would have wanted, traded it in pretty quick. It wasn’t a bad game or anything.

          • McPoo

I’ve been tempted to get it, but I get hand cramps from my XL with some games. I don’t think my hands could take the strain :p

      • Locksus

that must suck, man. If you had a circle pad pro, it would’ve made things a ton better :/

      • Budgiecat

Left handed here with an XL. No problems.

        • Bobby Jennings

          Congrats.

          • Budgiecat

            It meant man up

            • Bobby Jennings

I know. Which doesn’t solve anything. Me manning up doesn’t help with the controls. The controls are difficult for me, it may be perfect for you, but it’s difficult for myself.

For all you Jojo fans out there, we MIGHT be getting an animation for part 3, Stardust Crusaders, soon. Apparently Jojo will be airing again starting on October 5th. This is common practice for some series to build up hype before airing a new season. It’s not ALWAYS the case, but… For those of you that watched part 1 and 2, you’ll know we did get a little teaser at the end to hint at part 3.

So, maybe we’ll see a new season airing in Spring of 2014 by the time this finishes re-airing. They re-aired Kaiji before airing the new season, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed here in hopes of some more Jojo in 2014.

    • Anime10121

Yes Please! I’m sure after Neptunia ends DP will be going back to JoJo, hopefully.

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Yeah, it seems a LOT of people actually have a problem with DP’s animation for Jojo. Personally, I was fine with it. Animation never stopped me from watching something before anyway. Plenty of people turned down Akagi and Kaiji simply because the characters’ noses were too long, lol.

        • Anime10121

Really? I LOVED DP’s JoJo! It was the perfect kind of production for what Jojo seems to be, at least to me it was…

        • 罪罰

B-but you watch animation for the animation, come on bro. DPs Jojo is fine but they really need to amp it up for Stardust Crusaders. ZA WARUDO.

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I’ll be fine with it if they keep Koyasu as Dio. I want to hear him go, “MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA!!” and “ZA WARUDO!” like he does in the game :3

          • Kobracon

Yes and said animation was absolutely fine. The action was well animated, the voices are perfect and the colors are FABULOUS. Also the music kicks bucketloads of ass!

        • Budgiecat
    • Kobracon

So much yes for this to happen!. I hope we get 12 eps of Part 3 and 12 eps of Part 4!

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Whaaaaaat?! Only 12 episodes for part 3? You’re crazy! It would need a hell of a lot more than that, lol. Part 3 should be 24-26 episodes at least!

        • Kobracon

But…..but…Part 4-7 need some love STAT! Part 3 had an OVA. I wanna see the great voicework from the game to be put to use!

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Oh god, don’t even remind me. That OVA was a terrible representation of the manga. They left out so much shit, lol. At least this time they have a chance of doing a more accurate depiction.

I’m not saying parts 4-7 don’t need to be done, but I think people really love part 3, so they wouldn’t object to it getting 24-26 episodes while the rest continue to get 12 or so, yare yare daze.

            • Kobracon

But….but…I want some yare yare dawa…

    • LordKaiser

JoJo Bizzare Adventure? The series got remade? There’s even a Super Famicom game of it.

      • Budgiecat

    • Budgiecat

On I side note I put the song Tusk in my PS3 for Johnny’s theme in the game and it kinda works

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I see. I’m not going to bother with the custom soundtrack because if I upload any of the videos to Youtube, I’ll probably get a copyright strike, lol.

        • Budgiecat

Someone made an entire song library and uploaded it so I downloaded it and put in on USB stick to my PS3. The link is gone now though…

    • Anime10121

Telling myself the same thing. It’s good to go in with low expectations, it allows you to be blown away if anything of import actually DOES happen. Though I will note that me expectations of TGS are always higher than those of E3 or Gamescon…

      • Xaltmas

Yeah, it’s better than the alternative of PERSONA 5 THE LAST GUARDIAN DEMON’S SOULS 2 OMG!

        • Anime10121

Exactly, hell, Sony’s already confirmed they have no surprises for TGS, so that already debunks TLG from showing. I’m contempt knowing MGSV will be there. FFXV and KH3, well, I’m not expecting much from either showing, well besides a new trailer for XV, and maybe an added scene to KH3’s E3 trailer.

          • shogunknight

Why would you ever think theres hope for TLG even if they said they have a suprise? Heck im more hopeful for an ape escape or jak sequel than TLG (as of now) whenever they say suprise incoming. (Not that i wont be hyped but…)

            • Anime10121

Oh I never expected it to begin with, I just used that as an example because it’s one of the ones Xaltmas used

              • shogunknight

Oh i see. To tell you the truth, its best to get hyped for things you are confident its going to show up (or has been stated). Thats why most conferences seemed great to me, except the ones of games that didnt impress me

                • Xaltmas

Yup. Like that recent Sony event for example. Some people had the craziest expectations, and for them it was a waste of time.

For me, it was badass. Lily Bergamo, a new Guilty Gear Xrd trailer and a teaser for DanganRonpa 3 is more than I even hoped for from TGS.

          • EX+

@Anime10121:disqus, did you see that AOT episode 23 cliffhanger??

            • Anime10121

Oh yeah, and though I knew it was coming (well I figured it was coming), the way it happened…was so FREKING HYPE! I’m truly gonna miss this show when it ends in a couple more eps.

There hasnt been an action anime that has had me at the edge of my seat with the AW SHEETS in quite a while. It’ll be hard to find a replacement for the awesome SnK brings each week :(

              • EX+

I’m definitely thinking they’re gonna do a second season in a year or so. That series a literally a cash cow in Japan.

                • Anime10121

God do I hope so! Havent seen an anime this awesome, and with production values this high in a LONG TIME!

                  • EX+

I know! I’m a huge Naruto fan, but I can easily say that episode 5 alone gave me more of an enjoyment factor than the whole 4th great Ninja war arc.
And seriously, you can guarantee that a season 2 is happening.
They’ve already confirmed a live action movie, a prequel manga and an entire manga based on Levi.

                    • Anime10121

While I like Naruto, Shingeki no Titan in its 23 episodes has consistently had better animation than Naruto and Shippuden in their 500+ episodes! Dont get me wrong Naruto has its moments in animation too, but its strength is in its characters/character interactions.

But yeah, I wanted confirmation yesterday that they are going to continue this show with the same staff. THEY HAVE TO FINISH THIS! Well whenever the manga itself finishes :P

                    • EX+

The animations is easily the best and most consistent I’ve seen so far. Movie quality, especially in the fighting scene. I love how the animation plays out and how the action is followed when they use the 3D maneuver gear. That opening action sequence in episode 5 was excellent!

          • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

Sony confirmed they have no surprises for TGS? From who? Yoshida – twitter addict and troll?

            • Anime10121

Got damn, Shingeki No Kyojin episode 23… that cliff hanger! Damn. It’s episode 5 all over again. Shit is about to hit the FAN.

    • GhostNomad

If you haven’t already, I recommend reading the manga as well. For one, it’s pretty far ahead compared to the anime. Second, it’s got proper gore! However, the actual animation is badass and awesome to look at (which is one of the downsides to manga IMO), so be sure to keep track of both :D

      • EX+

After season 1 ends, I’m probably gonna read the manga. I have read some chapters after watching the episodes, to compare the sensors and stuff. Like in episode 6, when Armin found Hannah and Franz, they censored his body being in half.

        • GhostNomad

That might be a spoiler for some people so I didn’t want to mention it specifically, but yeah. That’s exactly one of the moments I had in mind. They clearly showed what was going on in the manga, but in the anime, Armin was standing in the way and you couldn’t clearly see what was going on. I caught up on the manga before watching the anime and even I was a little confused for a split second as to why he wasn’t waking up >.>

        • bloodiOS

I’m waiting to see if they would fix that in the Blu-ray version.

        • Guest

No mater I’m beyond episode 6 but my point still stands.

      • bloodiOS

But we’re watching from TV streams after all, the Blu-ray version has a lot of redraws. It wouldn’t surprised me if they add in a whole lot of gore too.

        • GhostNomad

Yeah, I’m hoping for that. Looking forward to the Blu-ray release soon after the first season ends. I haven’t bought a whole lot of anime in my days, but I’m definitely going to be investing in AoT for future revisits :D

          • bloodiOS

Only three more days till the release of volume 3, perhaps we’ll know the answer then.

    • bloodiOS

I was tensed as **** watching this episode, even though I’ve already read the manga!

      • Anime10121

Havent read the manga (dont do manga), but I EXPECTED what happened to happen, though I didnt expect it to happen this soon, or for it to happen the way it happened!

I happened to love the results :P

(dont know why I just typed happened so many times, maybe for the lulz)

  • LordKaiser

Shantae is in danger. it was a bad move of them to release the quickstarter countdown near Mighty Number 9 time. They only have less than 300k

    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1236620800/shantae-half-genie-hero

    • Xaltmas

It’s still got 18 days left, so I’d be kind of surprised if they didn’t at least hit the minimum goal.

Dunno about any of the stretch goals though.

      • LordKaiser

IDK but unlike Concept, Wayfoward launched a game trailer. There’s no videos of Mighty Number 9 yet.

        • Xaltmas

I don’t think the demand for Mighty No. 9 would be nearly as high as it is if it wasn’t for Capcom constantly fucking over Mega Man fans. A lot of people think by donating, it’s their way of “sticking it to the man”.

          • Anime10121

I’d have still bought Mighty if Capcom were doing right by Megaman, probably not at launch (nor funding it via KS), but I would have bought it.

But yeah, DEFINITELY put a little more into than I would have otherwise just because F U Capcom! Not that they actually care or anything…

    • Anime10121

That’s what I was saying! Who in their right mind approved for this Kickstarter to launch a couple days after Inafune’s Mighty!? I’m backing both (created my account FOR Mighty), but yeah, Wayforward should have waited…

      • Xaltmas

They probably assumed they could ride the momentum. The Mighty No. 9 twitter account even tweeted about the Shantae Kickstarter, but it doesn’t seem to have helped much.

        • Anime10121

Dunno, but hopefully, it does get funded! This’ll be my first Shantae, and it looks gorgeous! I wanna see that on my TV screen (well play it, since I’m kinda “seeing” it on my screen now).

          • http://popculturesocialclub.com/ DreamDrop♥

They already had a countdown trailer on their main page.

            • Anime10121

              Huh? What do ya mean?

              • http://popculturesocialclub.com/ DreamDrop♥

WayForward launched a countdown trailer almost a week before their KickStarter. A number of websites reported that they were launching something that coming Wednesday, but Mighty No 9 came out of nowhere and stole their thunder. It wasn’t at all their fault.

                • Anime10121

Oh yeah, forgot all about that! I guess it was Mighty, who came outta nowhere :P

But yeah, hopefully Shantae succeeds, because I want this to exist! This’ll be my gateway into the franchise!

                  • http://popculturesocialclub.com/ DreamDrop♥

OR: Buy a 3DS and catch up for less than $20

                    • Anime10121

I have a 3DS, I just prefer my gaming on a TV (its easier on the eyes). I’ve always WANTED to get into Shantae (that sounded way more lewd than intended), and depending upon how much fun I have with this game will determine whether or not I get the 3DS/GBA VC game.

                    • http://popculturesocialclub.com/ DreamDrop♥

That’s like saying “I’m going to play Lightning Returns and based on that decide if I play XIII and XIII-2″. Even if you hate them, you’d still be out a dollar more than the price of this game. Plus, this isn’t coming out for at least a year. And it’s GBC; there are no GBA VC games for purchase.

                    • Anime10121

Eh, not really, LR is a story based JRPG with a heavy focus on concluding a narrative that had started two games prior.

This, on the other hand, is a Metroidvania style platforming side scroller. It can be enjoyed without prior knowledge to the franchise/series games before it.

For example, Megaman ZX was my younger brothers intro into Megaman, and once he played and enjoyed that, he instantly asked to borrow both of my Collections to play the rest of the series. Needless to say, he is now a fan :P

                    • http://popculturesocialclub.com/ DreamDrop♥

But Shantae does have a narrative. The events of the second game directly inform the gameplay of the third and so the third to fourth. Plus as such a small dev they could use the money. And Lightning Returns can be enjoyed sans prior games, but moreso with the other games played. The same holds for Shantae. And ZX has much less of a story tie than Shantae.

                    • Anime10121

So, Shantae has a lot of plot? Because I <3 storied platformers (pretty much the reason I like Classic Megaman the least). But ok, I'll give the first few games a go, but it wont be for a while though, got FAR too much to spend money on in the next few months…

                    • http://popculturesocialclub.com/ DreamDrop♥

Saying a lot is a bit… Think along the lines of one of the GBA Castlevania’s. There’s a driving motivation for playing it and so on and so forth, but it’s no Final Fantasy. That being said, there’s more depth that what you would expect from a downloadable series. The only drawback is that Shantae 1 is very much a GBC game and suffers from the limitations of the device and a de-emphasized plot; the second is much, much better and has more details. Honestly, I think your very best bet would be to go to the Shantae twitter starting here: http://twitter.com/Shantae_WF/status/25500143948 and read the recap of the first game and then play the second one. They knew a lot of people never got to play the first one so it’s a good entry point. Hopefully they’ll remake the first one at some point and rework the story a bit. In the first game Shantae is a bit like Simon Belmont: not a lot of personality and a bit of a blank slate. The second game on really shows how spunky and fun a character she is, something better realized in the twitter recap.

                      Hope that helps.

                    • Anime10121

                      A bunch, thanks :)

                    • http://popculturesocialclub.com/ DreamDrop♥

Welcome to the Shantae fan club! That being said, depending on your tolerance for old school gaming and your enjoyment of the second, you’ll prolly pick up the first anyway. I mean, Risky’s Revenge was IGN’s DS game of the year.

                    • LordKaiser

Shantae GBC. How that game pushed the GBC to it’s limits.

                    • http://popculturesocialclub.com/ DreamDrop♥

Wat. Game Boy Color not Gamecube.

                    • LordKaiser

well I’m going to sleep. Good Night

                • Xaltmas

I didn’t hear anything about that. Though, WayForward isn’t exactly a big developer, so it would be easy to miss.

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I still think what Capcom UK tweeted a while back was pretty much rubbish though, in regards to MML3.

        https://twitter.com/Capcom_UK/status/93720826087620608

        • Anime10121

Thought you were talking about a newer tweet…

But yeah, it was pure unadulterated rubbish. The reason we didnt get Legends 3 was because Inafune quit, plain and simple.

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Then there was this, lol. Granted, I know it comes from 4chan, where a lot of bullshit arises, but still… Pretty scary if it wasn’t shooped.

    • http://popculturesocialclub.com/ DreamDrop♥

      The timing wasn’t their fault.

      • LordKaiser

        Yeah I missed that information

        • http://popculturesocialclub.com/ DreamDrop♥

Seems a lot of people did :(

    • bloodiOS

I don’t think they’re in danger. I am very confident that by the time the campaign ends, their initial goal would’ve already been reached and then some.

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I agree. I think it will be just fine.

  • Tac-Mex

I am pretty excited for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

I was kinda skeptic but it looks like a great improvement.

Also the soundtrack is going to be awesome:

    – In Lightning Returns, Masashi Hamauzu will be composing music related to Lightning – like he did in Final Fantasy XIII-2.

    – Each part of world will have a different composer. The world of Nova Chrysalia has been shared in four parts and there is only three composers announced for the game, Mitsuto Suzuki, Masashi Hamauzu and Naoshi Mizuta – who is the fourth one? It’s always possible that they are doing the fourth area together or Square Enix is having a small surprise for us….

    – The music will change depending to time of the day – morning, afternoon, evening and night will have different songs.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdAlmgeCl9g

    • Xaltmas

The title still kills me. Lightning Returns? She never fucking went anywhere.

      • Tac-Mex

Yeah :/, i think it should have been named Final Fantasy XIII-3

      • Anime10121

Ikr, I would have been fine with XIII-3…

        • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Typical Square-Enix with odd game titles. My favorite is still – DISSIDIA 012[duodecim] FINAL FANTASY.

          • Anime10121

Mines Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. I understand the reasoning behind the name, and I STILL dont know how it got approved :P

      • Budgiecat
      • iam_yotbox

I’ll play it only because Lightning and Fang were the ONLY reason I could stomach XIII until halfway… aka hit Grand Pulse and got lost
while being killed by op Behemoths that you fight waaaay too often for
        them to be epic encounters.

But I digress. It could be the best out of the trio, if everything falls together right.

      • Kobracon

Yeah she did. She turned into a crystal at the end of XIII-2. The ‘return’ is her coming out of Crystal Stasis.

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I’m excited for the game, too.

  • Tac-Mex

Sleeping Dogs is one of my favorite games this gen, i really liked the story, OST and combat

I wish square release a sequel

    • Azuardo

Hope they do, too. Loved that game. Wei Shen was a really well-done and likeable character. Shame it was rather on the short side for the main story. Loved it so much that I Platinum’d it, though.

      • Budgiecat

        Wei Shen
        Nick Kang
        Kiryu Kazama
        Ryo Hakuzi

        Winners

        Cast of GTA series

        Losers

        • Charlie

Maaaaaaaaybe if the cast of GTA got through Ryo, Kiryu would just swat them like a fly, but chances are… All of Ryo’s time spent at YOU ARCADE and asking about the four Wu Du while hunting sailors would be enough to take them with ease :P

        • McPoo

What about Officer Tenpenny? Nobody can hold a candle to Sammy J

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

        Yeah! Wei is awesome.

    • bloodiOS

I’d rather that United Front Games remasters the game for next-gen consoles with more story contents, much improved graphics, and a solid performance (constant 60fps.)

      • Budgiecat

        und then a sequel??

        • bloodiOS

Yeah, I think it would be better if they can optimize a good engine for next-gen consoles first before actually start working on a proper sequel. A remaster version of the first game is a good opportunity for that sort of things, I think.

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

How about a complete edition for PS4? With all of the bonus content, improved visuals, and solid 60 fps?

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I loved the game, too. I would welcome a sequel with open arms. I still need to finish a good chunk of the downloadable content.

    • KingNigma

Just finished it today. A little short but a lot of stuff to do so its all good and Wei is awesome.

Fingers crossed that a 3rd party company buys them

Hey guys should I buy a vita now or just wait for the ps4 and then get a vita? Or will there be a ps4/vita bundle?

    • TheBlackRabbit

To be honest with you i’m not sure. and would this bundle have the slim, or original. I know i just added questions instead of answering, sorry for that.

    • Elvick

If you want one now and can financially get one, then why not?

If you can’t get it and a PS4, then just wait awhile until you can.

      • Carlos Luis Ayala

Depends on how much ub play handhelds I’ve lost the will to finish those games.

        No, I’m into Watamote, lol.

I hope at TGS we finally get the answer to the age old question:

Where in the world is Tomonobu Itagaki?

    • Anime10121

      Fading into irrelevancy…

      • Xaltmas

Well, Microsoft is going to be at TGS, and he has worked with them in the past. Having MS publish The Devil’s Third isn’t something I would be against.

    Annie is HOT!

Bloodios. Shit is about to hit the fan next episode.

      • bloodiOS

Getting closer to the next Famitsu. Do you hear that? It’s the sound of Persona fans setting themselves up for disappointment again.

  • NoctisNightSky

Hey Zero, since the votes are so close on the KH fanart contest, is there any chance you’d do a 3 way tie for the leaders?

I think it’d seem fair since they’re getting so much continued support

    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mightyno9/mighty-no-9

It’s coming to consoles as they’ve reached their goal. Will it reach the next gen goal?

On a side note today I spend hours removing the remnants of the motionjoy software after the uninstall. I did it while playing this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNCXiMt1bR4

I used the method found in this page:

http://emulation-general.wikia.com/wiki/MotioninJoy then proceed to remove all the registry entries but some of them could not be deleted even by changing the permissions. So I installed Visual C++ and Visual Basic run-times and the 360 controller latest driver then finally installed the XInput wrapper from the PCSX2 website and then my PS3 controller worked again.

Why the trouble? Because it seems that motionjoy author decided to turn it into ad-ware and it inject pop-ups to your browser about the sh.com website.

Do not install motioninjoy to your PC.

    • AdamBoy64

Great stuff about Mighty No. 9.
I’ll likely pick it up for Wii U.

The PS4/X1 stretch goal seems.. a long way off.

TBH they should remove the documentary and use the money for the important things.

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

It’s region free anyway, so why the complaining? You can’t stream stuff? So what? It’s still great to use for playing Vita games on your TV.

        • AdamBoy64

          Sweet. I didn’t know that.
That is good. If we won’t need anything like power adaptors/voltage converters, then yeah, that would be great.
          .
I just don’t remember if Japan uses ~110 or ~240volts.
Either way, it shouldn’t be too difficult to deal with.

How long are we gonna wait for KH3 or FFXV?

    • Azuardo

A bloody long time. Let’s rule out 2014 completely. I would wager 2015 for FFXV, and 2016 for KH3. Wouldn’t surprise me if both were later than that, though.
