Be gone, evil stream-recorded video quality.

Konami and Kojima Productions have released direct-feed footage of the Metal Gear Solid V gameplay demos shown at this past weekend’s Tokyo Game Show.

Watch each video below.

Mission: Ground Zeroes – Opening (English)

Mission: Ground Zeroes – Opening (Japanese)

Mission: Ground Zeroes – Play Demo (Japanese)

Side Ops: TGS 2013 Special Mission (Japanese)

I still can’t get over how weird Snake sounds now. I’m hoping it’s just Kojima being in his troll mode and David Hayter will make a return >.>

On a good note, the direct-feed gameplay looks fucking gorgeous.

Skullface’s voice is personally pretty weak.I was expecting a menacing garbled voice. But what the hay.

      • GhostNomad

I noticed that too. I didn’t get to hear it in the best quality possible (kinda noisy around me and I lost my headset) but it just…. Didn’t sound as threatening as I expected it to, considering the character’s appearance.

I agree. I think they were probably trying to go for a “western ranger” type of voice but it falls flat. The voice doesn’t sound like it really has a personality or a story behind it, and at some points I feel like the performance borders on overacting.

      • LastBoss

They should of pulled someone like Bill Bye, as a source.

      • Budgiecat

Sam Elliot I would have picked….

        • LastBoss

          Great choice, or Mickey Rourke.

    • Gigus

Lulz. Its gonna be a while for hayter fans to get used to it.

      • GhostNomad

I’m gonna be stubborn and end up hating myself and then buying the game, playing it, and probably hating myself more. And switching the audio to Japanese if at all possible >.>

        • Gigus

I actually got over the fact it happened. I just dont like how people were interpreting hayter’s disappointment. Id be surprised if hayter does come back as a villain. I was hoping he’d be skullface lol. Oh well.

          • GhostNomad

I hope that I’ll be able to get over it like I did with Sam Fisher, but Sam isn’t a character I’m very attached to. My first Splinter Cell was Conviction, and only because my brother wanted someone to play co-op with. Michael Ironside made Sam into a badass, but the new Sam wasn’t all that bad, so I enjoyed the game for as long as it lasted. MGS, on the other hand, I’ve played since MGS on the PS1. Dropping Hayter is a pretty big deal to me, even if a lot of people don’t see it as a big deal.

            • Gigus

I haven’t played black list yet but my first game was splinter cell one. The only thing that irked me with blacklist was they made him look younger. As far as hayter goes im pretty surekojima is messing with us. 25 year old snake might pop up depending on how far the time line will stretch in this game.

              • GhostNomad

Yeah, I wasn’t a fan of his look in Blacklist either but ultimately the gameplay got me. Plus, I played it with my brother, so we were talking more than actually paying attention and just ended up smacking people around.

            • $18114340

Sam Fisher as a character kind of became an uninteresting caricature from the fourth game onwards. Fisher’s peak was as his sarcastic self in Chaos Theory. As someone who was fairly attached to that character, I was far past the point of caring once they announced that Ironside wouldn’t be voicing him in Blacklist. I feel like MGS is different for the same reason you do. A lot of people have been following MGS since the first game or at least the third and as a result Hayter as Snake is planted pretty firmly in our minds.

      • $18114340

Mostly it’s hard for Hayter fans like myself to accept the idea that he’s sincerely acting so publicly unprofessional about it and that there isn’t some secret troll conspiracy. I think I can get used to the new voice, but I may not hear the old one the same way anymore.

        • Gigus

I can understand but I’ve never seen him act inappropriately about it. He did say it was a good run and he had fun with roll. I have seen the twitter post he made and that was only one and it was about the coke joke but that was harmless. I think people are jus misinterpreting his disappointment too much. Im pretty sure he respects kojima’s decision and if kojima didnt like what he was doing he would’ve done something about it by now.

Hmm… I can’t be 100% sure but (assuming that this is next-gen footage) apparently hair and foliage either all have full alpha transparency now or they simply found an effective mean resolve the A2C artifacts, which is very good. That said, I’d also like the final version to feature models with higher poly-count, more detailed textures, better AF, and also utilizes tessellations and better shadow (not really digging the fuzzy dithered like shadow.)

Edit: After watching the gameplay clip, they are definitely still using A2C but the artifacts have definitely been made significantly less obvious. By the way, demo clip is captured from the Xbox One and Special Mission from the PS4 version? Or they simply uses PC for both and just changed the icons.

I so despise the Regen-health, slow-mo and friggen see enemies through crap things :/
    This is Mgs not Cod..

    • GhostNomad

The slow-mo moment when Snake was detected was kind of unnecessary, I agree. Especially considering there was another guard just a few feet away who somehow ended up not hearing anything and just kinda walked off, only to have his buddy thrown at him.

Here’s hoping that on higher difficulties, those will be off, and if anything, they at least give us the option to turn those off ourselves.

As far as marking the enemies, I hope that’s also a feature that will either be disabled in higher difficulties, or is optional to begin with (doesn’t automatically mark them when spotted, the player has to press a button while looking at them), that way we can at least choose not to use it and make the game more fun.

      • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

It’s just so maddening to see MGS become a follower now, its just not cool.MGS should be a leader

        • Budgiecat

Maybe Kojima didnt get the memo that no one cared for those things in Hitman Absolution and Splinter Cell Conviction….and no one liked CoD influencing their FF XIII and Resident Evil 6…

I mean, I know he loves America and all but he’s still a foreigner…

          • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

People HATE that crap in Hitman and SC, its like game devs are idiots

  • LordKaiser

I actually like the new voice of Snake, he sounds less constipated.

    • Budgiecat

How can you turn your back on the history of MGS like that and disrespect Hayder…and you call yourself a fan…pffft….

j/k I always felt Big Boss and Solid Snake shoulda been voiced by different people anyway…

      • LordKaiser

Hayder is just nostalgia from old fans. This new voice is way better and sounds more like snake.

  • Bob Obb

Seeing it in clear 1080p, it’s more apparent than ever this is a PS3 game running in higher res + framerate. Kind of disappointing, but I’m sure it will be awesome.

  • Gigus

Hopefully skullface’s voice isn’t official. For some reason I think Steven Blum’s voice acting can make the character really menacing.

  • Kodai Ichi

    Ignorance is bliss!
