Wear Yuna's garb from Final Fantasy X.

Square Enix officially revealed Lightning’s “Spira Summoner” costume in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII at the Tokyo Game Show.

The outfit is the same garb worn by Yuna, a summoner who brought the Eternal Calm to a faraway land called Spira, in Final Fantasy X.

Lightning will have over 80 costumes to wear in the final game.

Watch the costume video below. View some screenshots at the gallery.

I know that this costume had a lot of backlash, but i think it kinda suits her….

    • Budgiecat

maybe as a burial gown….Yuna needs to send Lightning away…..

      • Arcana Gear

…. i really think that it combines with her, it’s just that some people compare her with yuna, it’s like tales series, almost all the times a cameo costume will feel off when compared with the original.

        • Budgiecat

So how bout that Aerith costume now…. -_-

  • Kobracon

    Thats actually…quite nice…

Its like if Light was ever a laid back kind girl, she’d look like this

    • Budgiecat

except she’s on the rag 24/7

      • Kobracon

Y’know I’ve heard that American expression several times, but I never truly understood its meaning. Does it mean shes PMS-ing?

        • Budgiecat

  • LustEnvy

Advent Children Cloud costume, PLEASE. She is basically female Cloud, and the Ac outfit suits her more than the FFVII one.

  • Budgiecat

For some reason this outfit pisses me off more than the Cloud one.

It just….doesn’t fit. AT ALL. And really just screams lame desperation.

Like, if they were willing to stoop this low, why the hell weren’t Final Fantasy characters from past games downloadable for XIII-2 arena mode?

As dumb and shallow and canon breaking as that idea is, you have any idea how much $ that would have pulled in??

    • TetsuyaHikari

I’m sure this pretty much sums up most people’s reaction to Lightning’s costumes in this game:

    • Kobracon

      Well…there was Gilgamesh.

And I admit that this works on me coz FFX is one of my fav FFs. This definitely won’t please everyone, but I doubt they were aiming for that in the first place.

    • Raiu

Posted this because I thought it was funny to…. I can imagine Toriyama saying the same thing…. XD

  • kiri25

I feel sorry for lighting. To think this strong female lead has been reduced to a Barbie doll u can dress up in outfit to show off her new bust size is sooo sad.

It’s great eye candy I guess but if I want to play as Yuna or cloud I’ll play VII or X HD. Anyway I guess I should just be thankful its lighting and not my fav girl Tina/Terra.

    • Kobracon

Or y’know…ignore these costumes? Also I read somewhere that her bust size actually depends on the outfit. So if u want the normal good’ol badass Light, then stick with her original outfit

  • AzzyFox

All of my YES! I love FFX, I love Yuna, and I love that Lightning gets to cosplay as Yuna! ^__^

  • Zero

I think Light looks good in Yuna’s outfit. Over 80 costumes? Gosh.

    • kiri25

Well idk I mean I could see her sister in this perfectly but lighting character…. This just does not seem to fit to me. Tho I’m still not so happy about all these costumes especially the ffxiv one.

It just seems to me as if lighting has now been reduced to otaku’s personal ff dream doll that you can make cosplay for you.

Tho Its not something the player has to do its an option so Idm, but it still just fells kinda wrong to do this with lighting in my opinion?

      • Zero

I’m hoping her magic stat is increased when she uses this outfit or something like that.

This one seems more like something for FF fans in my opinion. Just like the Cloud outfit.

I’ll be happy if the outfits are helpful in battle. If others want to run around with Light in some kind of sexy outfit, they can go right ahead and do that. That type of stuff isn’t for everyone, which is understandable.

I just view all of this alongside the same ideas that went into Final Fantasy X-2. The three main characters would change outfits with each job switch. Some of the outfits were pretty silly looking.

This is kinda the same concept. It’s similar at the very least. I see lots of little things in Lightning Returns that seem to be heavily influence by FFX-2.

It makes sense when you think about Motomu Toriyama and Yoshinori Kitase both being heavily involved in both games. (Director & Producer.)

It also explains the focus on making Lightning more sexy looking. It’s completely unnecessary, just like it was with Yuna in FFX-2. They did it anyway.

I look at the game and see they are doing many of the things they have already done before.

        • kiri25

well I agree that it’s very similar to FFX-2, however the difference for me is that I could see and believe that Yuna and rikku would wear some of this crazy outfits lol.

It’s lighting on the other hand, it just does not seem to fit her character and personality well.

Again tho it’s not something you have to use if u don’t like and idk something tells me those costumes are eye candy only lol

          • kiri25

Btw I do apologise for my txt I’m using my phone to post and and it’s a real pain but I’m enjoying the replies and replyingto them

    Final Fantasy: Barbie Returns.

  • Syltique

I think it looks awesome. I hope they have more legacy costumes.

Once upon a time, SQEX put Cloud in Ehrgheiz, and FFT and people were happy about it and didn’t complain on the internet about simple, fun bonuses.

    • Kobracon

Oh god I remember Ehrgheiz! Geez…..nostalgia trip.

  • carrebeannut

from soldier to warrior of goddess and end to be a barbie, very sad stories.

  • Chocozell

Enough. I’m thinking I’m not going to get this game…

  • Zancrow

Are there even summons in this game?

  • disneyanime91

You know, a little fanservice has never hurt anyone before. If anything, I absolutely welcome the wide variety of costumes available. This offers plenty of opportunity for tie-ups, crossover promotions and as evidenced here, direct homages to Final Fantasy titles past and present.

Heck, while we’re on the topic of homages, I sincerely would love to see a Lara Croft costume (the one from the latest reboot), since Square Enix now holds the rights to the Tomb Raider property. Even something based on Deus Ex would be pretty damn cool.

And I’m still holding out hope for an AKB48 X Final Fantasy tie-up costume like what they did for FFXIII-2.

  • 罪罰

“Hey guys, instead of making a goog game.. let’s watse our resources on modeling costumes for Lighting-chan!”

*Everybody at S-E celebrates by throwing the budget into the trash bin*

    • Sal Romano

But, but… you haven’t played the game. =/

    • Arcana Gear

What happened with the positive thinking!?

      • 罪罰

        That’s exclusive to FF15

        • Arcana Gear

and if in FFXV prompto/stella wear yuna costume?

    • Ritsujun

For corn’s sake, this is just a lil omake.
The costume doesn’t fit Tomboy Raito at all, though.

  • PhoenixAutomatic~♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪~

It’s a bit awkward on Lightning but then again more costume variety.

  • artemisthemp

This seem to be exclusive for PS3 version of FFXIII-3, since you need a voucher from FFX/X-2 to unlock it –

  • EX+

Just get this game outta the way so that we can get more FFXV info.

  • new_tradition

Lol, those moogles snuggling up to Lightning are so cute <3

  • Ritsujun

Ewww., GROSS. Tomboy Raito should wear something armorish.

  • Astrid Huang

Badass Lightning should always stick with badass costumes.

I like Lightning for her strong character, so even if there’s 100+ cute or sexy costumes for her, I will only make her wear the ones that fit her strong and cool personality :)

Basically SE just killed one of their own best characters with this kind of silly fanservice stuff.
