$20 for online co-op expansion, co-op maps, and more.

Killzone: Shadow Fall will ship with a $20 season pass, Sony has announced.

Developer Guerrilla Games is planning “several forms” of downloadable content for “extensive post-launch multiplayer support.” Competitive multiplayer maps will be released for free, as well as paid expansion packs that promise to “further enhance” the shooter’s online experience.

The $20 season pass will include the following expansion packs as they become available:

  • Online co-op expansion pack – focusing on team play and intense combat, the online co-op expansion pack adds a new co-operative game mode in which you and up to three online friends must survive against impossible odds. Fight waves upon waves of enemies in four new arena maps, featuring a unique leveling system and new unlocks.
  • Three online co-op map packs – each map pack consists of two brand-new arena maps you can play in co-op mode with your friends. Please note that these arena maps will only work with the online co-op expansion pack.
  • Two additional multiplayer expansion packs – we’ll reveal more about these additional multiplayer expansion packs when Killzone Shadow Fall’s launch date nears. Suffice to say they’ll offer many hours of additional multiplayer thrills!

Day one season pass buyers will also receive access to an exclusive OWL combat drone skin and unique multiplayer spotlight move.

Killzone: Shadow Fall will launch for PlayStation 4 on launch day, November 15. Watch a new trailer below.

Looks like this is going to be my first ever Season pass!

I love the Killzone franchise, and I love Co-op. Win-win for me!

On a side note, I thought it said “Online pass” at first and was like WTF!

  • MrKappa

DLC before the game is even out… and I’m pretty sure it is all finished and on the disc. At least the maps will be free so a divided player base doesn’t become a problem.

    • Zackasaur

I wager that you are wrong. That would be far out of custom for both Guerilla and Sony. This isn’t Capcom.

They have simply planned what they want to make in post-production, akin to The Last of Us and BioShock Infinite. Given the nature of the content, I expect the turnaround to be faster.

And all competitive map DLC being free is very cool

  • SuperLuigi

Didn’t just a couple weeks ago they said it will be free dlc so the community will not be messed up?

    • bloodiOS

Well, competitive multiplayer maps are free…

    • $18114340

Companies tend to say things that they know their customers will respond to positively. It doesn’t have to be wholly true.

    • Luna Kazemaru

the maps are free I assume the pass will be co-op things

    • Sal Romano

No one reads the actual article anymore.

      • bloodiOS

Competitive multiplayer maps will be released for free.

This should have been the subtitle. Double-function as a tl;dr

  • Heisst

The game isn’t even out yet, jeez.

    • Yuri4prez

What? They announce a Season pass for a game yet to be released? They didn’t say “Day 1 DLC”
They did say however, that ALL competative DLC would be free, I see nothing wrong with this. Making OPTIONAL DLC for co-op sounds like a great idea.

Season passes, while I have steered clear of, does have its own value for a game you want to play a lot of.

Borderlands comes to mind. I passed on the season pass, lol but bought all the DLC by itslef. Could have saved some money by just getting the pass.

      • Heisst

Why announce paid DLC months before the game is even out? Shouldn’t that DLC be already in the game?

        • Yuri4prez

It’s possible. Or maybe it’s just planned. I have seen no hard evidence to know for sure that it is complete, and should be on-disc.

All they did was announce the Season pass, and co-op maps and such. Again, I’m not saying that this DLC could already be finished, but it doesn’t matter either way. If it is, nobody will ever admit it. Don’t sweat the petty things.

          • Heisst

It’s not even that, it’s not that it’s on-disc or not or finished or not, it’s the sheer fact that they’re announcing paid downloadable content before the game’s release, MONTHS at that.

            • Yuri4prez

All games that have offered season passes have been announced over a month before release, the only difference here, is the devs are giving us an idea of what to expect with the said season pass. Co-op DLC.

Name one game recently that was not working on DLC before the games release.

Bioshock, Last of Us, Borderlands, Uncharted 3, etc. all had season passes announced way before release.

I see what you are saying though. If they were so sure this would be made, why didn’t they add it to the actual game instead of charging people.?

Could be any reason, maybe to meet launch date, maybe greed, maybe they haven’t even started the DLC. Look at Bioshock. Almost a year to get DLC for it, and people bought season pass on launch. It’s possible.

              • Heisst

”Name one game recently that was not working on DLC before the games release.”

                Etrian Odyssey 4.

”All games that have offered season passes have been announced over a month before release”

Why does it matter if others do it or not? The point is they are announcing paid DLC prior to the game’s release, months at that, that’s just…ugh.

  • CosmicNova

I thought Season pass was dead? Didn’t Sony say they weren’t going for that anymore now that, you have to pay for their online service?

    • Yuri4prez

      Online Pass is dead.

Season pass is a way to buy all DLC for a game at one price, which is lower than buying each DLC individually.

      • CosmicNova

I see, thank you my good confidant.

        • Yuri4prez

          You’re very welcome

  • rockman29

This game looks AMAZING but screw the payment model honestly…. I’m paying $60 to get this game on launch day with my PS4…. I should be able to get the modes as part of that payment.

  • Raiu

“Competitive multiplayer maps will be released for free, as well as paid
expansion packs that promise to “further enhance” the shooter’s online

Yes…. This would be stupid to not do this in a competitive multiplayer game… Why restrict the maps to people who buy it?

  • shogunknight

Awww, why put this behind a paywall? And its a tempting offer too :(

  • Elvick

I wish the co-op mode wasn’t DLC, that will limit who plays it. ):

I’ll buy it though. I love co-op modes.
