Surge Concerto RPG due out on January 30 in Japan.

Gust is developing Ar no Surge, an RPG entry in its life simulation series Surge Concerto: Ciel no Surge, for PlayStation 3.

Dengeki PlayStation this week reveals the game will have town, field, and battle elements, and themes based around “confrontation from coexistence,” “bonds,” “the bonds between men and women,” and “bonds as friends.”

The game’s connection to Ciel no Surge and Ar Tonelico is still a mystery, but it appears to be set in the same universe as Ciel no Surge, but during a different time period.

Ar no Surge will be directed by Akira Tsuchiya, have character design by NTNY, and feature high-quality character models by Flight Unit.

The hero is Delta Lantanoir, a young man who came out from inside Felion when the barrier wall was opened. He uses a tonfa, gun, and his fists in combat, and was part of an elite organization called “Plasma,” who was protecting the city from Sharl. For certain reasons, he was discharged from the group and now runs a restaurant. Joining Delta is Arshes, a humanoid robot weapon.

On the planet La Ciela, where the Genomes co-exist, the Sharl kidnap people using song magic. After the barrier wall opens, an ancient race with the ability to use lost song magic appear. These ancient people awakened from cold sleep live alongside modern day folk in the city’s residential area.

Battles do not use a command turn-based system, but a hybrid system with action elements called “Protect.” The hero will take the front lines while protecting the heroine as she performs song magic.

The game will offer a “Genometric System” that lets you go inside peoples’ hearts, as well as a mixing system.

Ar no Surge is due out for PlayStation 3 on January 30 for 7,140 yen.

Thanks, Game Nyarth.

Flipping Megaton right here! THIS is the type of sheet I wanted to see come outta TGS! Loved Ar Tonelico and am glad to see something rise from its ashes! This basically IS Ar Tonelico in a Ciel no Surge world setting, because the real Ar Tonelico’s story is finished (and it’d also be a legal nightmare to get another one off the ground)!

NISA! You know what to do :D

    • Invisbin

I was wondering why that name came to mind! Ar Tonelico Knell of Ar Ciel was the only one I played in the series and I was like “wtf is this?” But I loved it ….so I’ll be happy to see this

      • Anime10121

Play the other two, they’re MUCH better :)

        • Invisbin

I feel like a little school girl again :D

      • lostforeverinspace

Try the second it was the best and it sounds like its battle system is reminiscent of the second games

        • Anime10121

I will literally cry a river of happy tears if this is similar to the second game! I <3 Luka :D

  • InsaneChronos

    Bring back the reyvatails >_<

    • Anime10121

The chick from Ciel no Surge was a Reyvetail in everything but name :D

      • InsaneChronos

I want to see Misha and Shurelia again…

        • Anime10121

Ar Tonelico had too many hands in the pie (Novel wrighter who did the Cosmosphere sections, Namco Bandai, Gust, and finally NisA), so unfortunate as that is, thats unlikely :(

      • aquagon

Although the only thing similar was being able to use Song Magic, as Ion doesn’t have a Cosmosphere or has connection to a SH Server (and Genometrics and Ciel Notrons are completely different setting-wise from Diving and the Towers).

        • Anime10121

Oh, I thought that game had something similar to a Cosmosphere, but then, I know you know your stuff, I know you’re a HUGE Tonelico fan :P

          …So I guess I stand corrected

  • lostforeverinspace

I literally died of happiness for 5 seconds!!

    • Anime10121

Why only 5 seconds? Ar Tonelico’s story is done, but this is basically gonna be EXTREMELY similar! Its not Ciel no Surge, its an actual GAME that plays exactly like Ar Tonelico (even going to the extent of allowing you “go inside peoples hearts)! This is an actual RPG, unlike Ciel no Surge :D

  • Raiu

Can someone explain to me what did I just read in the article? Is it a life sim (Ciel no Surge) or RPG (Ar Tonelico)? I’m confused…

    • Anime10121

An RPG like Ar Tonelico set in Ciel no Surge’s world!

      • Raiu

*exhales* Thank you…. This needs to be the tl;dr conclusion…

  • Karl Josef

must be sequel of the past Ar tonelico games on ps2

  • gangrelion

The Sharls are kidnapping people? Wasn’t them just little fairies that lived inside the heroine’s mind? I think I should play Ciel Nosurge until the end!

  • MrKappa

This is coming out pretty soon and they don’t even have a video or screens?

  • DesmaX

    Oh boy that name.

But, sweet news, been waiting forever for this.

… But it really coming soon, huh? Kinda makes me worried

    • Sal Romano

This is just how Gust announces games (the right way).

New Atelier Rorona was announced on August 6 (2013), is coming out November 21. Atelier Escha & Logy was announced March 17 (2013), came out on June 27. Atelier Ayesha was announced March 26 (2012), came out June 28. Atelier Meruru was announced March 21 (2011), came out June 23. You get the picture.

      • DesmaX

        Oh, I see.

  • Elvick

Hope we get this one at least…

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Fuck yeshhhh Oh man, I wish they announced this at TGS. Woulda been huge

  • fyi1191

Battles do not use a command turn-based system, but a hybrid system called “Protect.”

Oh, a masochist protagonist. This will be good.
    +1 for localization!

  • Sevyne

Next, give me an HD Remaster of Ar Tonelico 1+2 on my Vita.

Edit: Damn, what’s with the hate? Could ya at least tell me what’s wrong with what I said? Am I not allowed to want something?

    • artemisthemp

      That would be awesome :)

      • Sevyne

        Wouldn’t it?

Though I am still super excited over this news here as well.

        • artemisthemp

          Use the wrong smiley :)

    • Takane Shijou

Remake treatment of AT3 would be wonderful as well. It was a rather rough transition of the series, and I would like to see what they could do for that as well.

AT 1 & 2 would be quite keen as well.

      • Sevyne

Indeed. AT3 could do with a little bit of improvement, so I wouldn’t mind them hitting that one as well.

    • Elvick

If they can fix the slowdowns in battle, I’d be all over Ar Tonelico on PS Vita.

  • Sieghardt

Yessss, I’ve wanted a new Ar Tonelico for so long, this will suffice :D I’m assuming the music will be incredible as ever and I’m sure being an RPG this one will get localised

  • talesoffan

Sounds awesome! Love Gust. So glad they are doing something outside of Atelier on PS3.

    • Anime10121

Exactly, I like the Atelier series (well some of them), but I mother trukn LOVE Ar Tonelico’s! I also like the look, design, and music of Ciel no Surge, so a combination of the two is just, well, <3

  • yuina

Set in a different time period? Hmm. Ciel no Surge’s world design is fantastic, I really hope they don’t stray too much from it.

  • Bob Obb

Wow, Jan 30?? This is how game announcements should be made. No 5 year waits (are you paying attention, Squeenix?)

    • FitzpatrickPhillips

Gust is going hard. Just released Escha & Logy. New Rorona soon, and now this. Its Gust Fest!

  • FelixFelice

I wonder what chances this has coming stateside now that Tecmo Koei owns Gust. I want a special edition.

  • Arcana Gear

Fangirl scream!!! i’m a long time fan of Ar tonelico series! i was already losing hope if a new rpg game so these news are wonderful ^o^

    • Arcana Gear

      and i’m a boy…..

  • alangato

Wow, they have been doing a lot of work huh? Guess that acquisition by tecmo koei wasn’t bad.

That makes me wonder; Gust always outsourced a lot of the development, and as far as I remember their team was really small… anybody here knows if they have expanded? I think most of the composers left them since Gust became part of TK.

    • LordKaiser

It’s yet to early to say

  • Eclipse

Nice, this is the type of game that I’ve really wanted from GUST~!

I absolutely can’t wait to hear the stunning music <3

  • iam_yotbox

I expect great music from this. Good to see GUST still trucking along, does the heart good.

  • Mr. Sweeney Todd

This is great! Lots of JRPG’s for PS3.

  • Torgrim

This is not ar tonelico.. those games just have the same style , but they separate games… anyway , i think the game gonna be good , so i buy it in any case.
