Game's platform still unannounced.

Famitsu this week has first details on the newly announced Yakuza: Ishin.

This time, Kazuma Kiryu becomes the historical figure Sakamoto Ryoma, who attempted to overthrow the Shogunate at the end of the Edo Era. His goal is to destroy the swordsman who killed his father and the honored teacher Yoshida Toyo before his eyes. After sleuthing for a year and finding that all riddles begin and end with the Shinsengumi, Ryoma disguises himself as Shinsengumi captain Saito Hajime and heads for this assassin’s group.

The game’s platform is still unannounced. Masayoshi Yokoyama is the producer and scenario writer. The game is set in the cities Tosa and Kyoto.

Thanks, Game Jouhou.

    PS4

    • Farid Belkacemi

      PS3 and/or VITA is my guess :p

      • Raiyu

Yakuza 5 was the last PS3 Yakuza game. So its either PS4 or Vita. I’m guessing PS4 though.

        • Budgiecat

What’s up with the Black Panther series (PSP) do the characters there belong in the Yakuza universe or is it multiverse?

          • Raiyu

I’m not sure if its the same universe. I remember they did mention Kamurocho in the first Black Panther game but I don’t know if its the same one or if its one from a different universe.

            • Budgiecat

It sure as hell looks the same…

  • Awnye

Hmmm I wonder who will play Saito? Akiyama, maybe? Majima?

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Well, Hajime Saito was also known as Fujita Gorō and Majima’s surname is also Gorō.

      Hmmm…

      • Awnye

        WHAT
Jesus it was weird enough that Ryoma has the character “dragon” in his name (as well as his wife’s…) Also the “Ma” character is the same in Kazuma’s name

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Yeah, haha. They’re just trying to be sneaky :3

People familiar with the history will catch the Gorō part, heh. It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s Majima.

  • bloodiOS

It’s more than likely to end up on the PS4. The question is, will it be a cross-gen title?

Mass suicides when it turns out it’s for mobile.

    • bloodiOS

If it does turn out that way, I’ll just pretend that SEGA never existed.

    • Awnye

The game has a Cero rating, so it’s either on a console or it’s Vita.

Saito Hajime, yes! Now we need Battous..err…Gensai Kawakami ;)

  • Pyrofrost

I believe it’s safe to say that this game will be coming out on one or more of these: PS4, PS3, PSV.

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Probably PS4. Kenzan! was the first Ryu ga Gotoku title for PS3, to test the hardware, so I am 95% certain this is why it is a spinoff, rather than part of the main series. More than likely, this will be on PS4 to test the hardware before working on Ryu ga Gotoku 6.

      • Pyrofrost

Yeah, and they pretty much used the Kenzan! engine for Ryu ga Gotoku 3, 4, and Of the End.

They used a new engine for 5, and claimed they were using yet another new engine for 6 which will be on the PS4. So what you say here makes sense.

        • Budgiecat

          I didn’t really notice a difference in Yakuza 5 though…much

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

There was definitely a difference, especially with how battles took place. The mechanics were a little tweaked too. Granted, from a viewer’s perspective, it could be seen as not even a change at all from 4, really, but trust me… It’s definitely there :3

    • McPoo

Rumour on the grapevine is it’s a Wii U exclusive.

  • alangato

Well, Nagoshi recently said that Yakuza was coming to Vita, so I would bet on Vita. But Maybe it is for PS4, who knows…

Here is the info from kotaku, 3 months ago http://kotaku.com/yakuza-on-the-wii-u-is-an-experiment-and-not-happenin-510075724

I like how SEGA still uses the same “virtual actors” to play different roles. I find it gives them more depth.

    • Budgiecat

Remember when Squaresoft was going to do this with their Final Fantasy Spirits Within main character (before the movie tanked?)

Anyways it reminds me of how in Yakuza 3, Kiryu was kinda pushed into doing a movie role, so maybe in the Yakuza universe, this is really just Kiryu acting in a historical period piece movie lol

      • Marco Tinè

Yeah, I remember. I still have images in high resolution of Dr. Aki Ross from back in the days :D

  • DJRickyV

But are they ever going to regionalize Yakuza 5 for the U.S.? Exploring (and fighting in) Kamurocho with the revamped engine would be awesome!
