Localized version drops plural title to better fit story.

The Witch and the Hundred Knights, Nippon Ichi Software’s original PlayStation 3 RPG, will come to North America and Europe in early 2014 as The Witch and the Hundred Knight (plural dropped), NIS America has announced.

According to the publisher, the title for the game was updated in order to better fit with the events of the story.

Find the game’s story and feature set summarized below.

Story

Fed up with being unable to travel beyond the borders of her swamp, the witch Metallia forges a contract with the legendary Hundred Knight to help her realize her ambition of spreading her swamp throughout all of Medea. As the Hundred Knight, your mission is to do whatever your master, the Swamp Witch, commands. Explore the world, destroy Pillars built to prevent her swamp from spreading, and wreak indiscriminate havoc. However, in the back of your inhuman mind, you begin to wonder… What prevents Metallia from leaving the swamp? Why do the other witches shun her, and how can she survive in a swamp that is notorious for how poisonous its fumes are? Is Metallia really a witch to respect, or is she one to fear?

Kind of strange to…drop one letter, but whatever. More info on this is nice, though.

    • Hero’s treatment

They also changed her name from Metallica to Metallia.
Sounds stupid but I’m rather annoyed by that :P

  • Josephl64

Love this game, it was so much fun…kind of weird how they are handling news about this in the West though. I mean even in Japan they handled it so strangely that the hype was almost gone when it got released.

  • Elvick

    Hundred Knight?

Hope they do a boss LE for it.

    • Zackasaur

Given that the character is (for whatever reason) called Hundred Knight, it sounds like the English title is actually superior to the Japanese one… I wonder why the Japanese one is plural. lol

EDIT: I just read that there are 99 other knights which can be summoned in some fashion.

      • Budgiecat

Yeah….if it were “Ninja” or “Sheep” I’d understand (you don’t add an ‘s’ to those (even though people still mistakingly say “ninjas”), but “Knight”? I dunno…

      • Elvick

Not sure if it remains true, but waaaaaaay long ago, I read that you had basically 100 Knights to use. Which were basically like lives.

Not sure if that changed or not.

  • GhostNomad

Hell yes. Been keeping track of this game for a while, hoping it’d get localized sometime soon. Thanks again Sal! Always bringing me good news :D

  • DesmaX

Damn, that logo looks sweet (In the website).

Oh, and they calling her “Metallia”, huh? Kinda of a shame, but understandable

    • Budgiecat

Lars is a dick we know

  • Learii

I never lose fate in NISA <3
    they also include dual audio

  • TheBlackRabbit

This is what i hate……about the latter life of a console….>.>

    • Zackasaur

      What do you mean?

      • TheBlackRabbit

well the fact that there are so much quality titles, keeping me from leaving the current gen…lol

        • Pekola

          Yeah, truckload of releases:

Drakengard 3, Tales of Xillia, Tales of Xillia 2, Tales of Symphonia HD, Fate Paradox, Fairy Fencer F, Battle Princess of Arcadias, Lightning Returns.

And there might be more to come. Right as the PS4 comes around the corner ;c

          • TheBlackRabbit

Yep it will probably take me 3-4 years to get the next gen

  • DarthBrian

“Dual Audio galore: Players have the ability to switch between and enjoy both the English and Japanese audio tracks whilst adventuring!”

Kind of bummed that this has to be included as a feature. Should be standard operating procedure for all games whose original language is not English. >_<

    • Zackasaur

I mostly agree, and I usually prefer English vocals as personal preference. I’ll take Japanese if the English acting is awful, though. Japanese can also make for a neat second playthrough for me.

However, there are some cases where the audio tracks take up too much data. For this game, that is absolutely not a problem. For something like FFXV, that might be an issue.

      • DarthBrian

Not with the power of Blu-Ray.

  • PrinceHeir

“Dual Audio galore: Players have the ability to switch between and enjoy both the English and Japanese audio tracks whilst adventuring!”

never change NIS America!, never Change!!!!

    definitely buying this day 1!!!

  • MrKappa

They always change the title of their games and it is for the same reason every time so I don’t know why they try to lie now and say it is for story purpose.

    • Sevyne

NISA is excellent with bringing games over, but the liberties they take in localization has always really bothered me. The changes they make are almost as if they are just trolling us. I mean I’m never angry over it, but they do need to chill out with that.

      • xMCXx

Yeah, I remember that PS3 Bleach game, which is called Soul Ignition in Japan, which is a perfectly good title.
Yet NIS had the urge to change it to Resurrección for the West.

        • Sevyne

And Soul Ignition would have been so much of a cooler name too!

        • William UltimateFactor Levert

It’s not their fault. There are various copy writes to certain names here in America due to games, comics, novels, shows, etc. A lot of the time they have to rename things because they can’t legally bring out a game under that particular name.

          • xMCXx

            It’s always Copyright bullshit…
Which is also the reason JoJo’a BA All star Battle won’t come out anywhere besides Japan, I guess.

    • DrForbidden

They might just be worried that the people who bought the game will be outraged that they don’t get 100 knights in the game and threaten to sue them or something…

  • miyamoto

    YeSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
PS3 is really the best HD console ever!

    • Zackasaur

      Totally!

At least until the PS4. :3

  • Budgiecat

Two things about this game; why the top down viewpoint only and why make a cool character like Metallica (Metallia? Ugh damn censorship!) but you cant play as her. Reminds me of GriM GriMoiRe

    • William UltimateFactor Levert

It’s not censorship lol. It’s because of the Rock Band Metallica. They have various rights to the name and title.

  • Jontaku

    Great News.

  • $18114340

So NISA dropped the plural. Will Namco Bandai be picking it up and using it for “Gods Eater 2”?

  • shogunknight

The name matters not in the slightest…..the game, i need the game

  • artemisthemp

I really hope Early 2014 don’t mean February, since that month already have enough games

  • Willgaea

I like this name better. Now it sounds like 1 knight that has the power of 100 knights, or has that many classes in him. The other title made it seem like it was a rts game, like pikmin.

Ps. the hundred knight is mesmerized.
