It really seems like they are going to let the vita die…

    • kenshee

I dunno, if they reveal a ps4+vita bundle at 500 dollars/euro then it’ll be the first time I’d personally really consider getting a vita.

I have nothing against the thing, I’m sure it’s a great piece of hardware, but I go where the translated Jrpgs go, atm I’m a happy 3ds/ps3 gamer, a few years ago I was a 360/psp gamer and before that ps2 all the way.

      I actually hope/think the ps4 + vita/3ds will be my next step.

But yeah, I really do think the vita will become the ps4’s companion like that, the more they market that and the more attractive bundles they make, the more it’ll pick up, at least that’s my guess.

      • Namekaze_Minato

PS4 + Vita would be a great bundle; but the price tag would be higher than $500 buddy.

        • kenshee

Well yes, unfortunately it will be, I just meant to say, that’s how low the additional price would need to be for me to not have to think about getting a vita right now as well.

I do wonder how much of a loss they’d be willing to take just to move more vita’s.
That’s to say if this bundle idea is something they want to pursue at all, of course.

Realistic: 600. 50 loss is very doable and will make it a nice incentive.
Really hoping for: 550. At launch this would be incredible, but yeah, dream situation.
Down the line: 500. I mentioned this because it seems like a great price to stay at for such a bundle for a while, though obviously not at launch.

    • LordKaiser

I doubt that as now the Vita is a PS4 interface.

      • Cry_Zero

Dont get me wrong i bought my vita to play great handheld games on it, not to use it as a second screen. The Remote play feature is great( they promised that it would work on ps3 too…) but thats not the main reason for someone to buy a vita. GREAT GAMES is all we need

        • Zackasaur

They never promised all PS3 games would work on Vita. They said devs could add the feature as an option, and they can.

The PS4 makes all non-motion games playable on Vita.

          • OverlordZetta

They should have made the feature mandatory from the beginning.

        • Elvick

Source on the “promise” that remote play would be on every PS3 game.

Because, I don’t know if you know this, but remote play DOES work on PS3. So your complaint is totally invalid, in the way you worded it.

But since I knew what you meant, I already asked for that source to prove your point.

Protip: There isn’t one. Never was, just a bunch of people citing an other person citing the imaginary promise who heard it from other people who said it was a promise.

          • Cry_Zero

wtf? Yoshida even played killzone 3 on the vita and guess what? That doenst work too…

            • Elvick

              See, no source.

Proved my point. Away with you.

              Demonstrating tech =/= a promise.

Tons of PS Eye demos were done of things that never came to exist.

    • McPoo

It’s a shame, as the Vita is a genuinely impressive little handheld. I really loved the hardware and got one on launch. Sony’s handling of it was pretty unforgiveable though, and I sold it about a year later. That was like 6 months ago, and there’s yet to be any software for it that’s made me regret that decision.

      • Cry_Zero

the next big thing is killzone mercenary and maybe tearaway. And then? theres nothing. I dont understand why there are no games like inFAMOUS or God Of war. These are sony owned franchises. Thats why it should be easy for them to bring these games to the vita. They wont sell vitas unless they give us some AAA titles. A HUGE gamechanger would be GTA. Id kill for a GTA on vita….

    • Elvick

Yeah, it’s not like they announce anything or sign up a bajillion indies.

      Oh wait…

Sure, they’ve made derp mistakes like not having any large announcements of new content at E3 (twice). But after last year’s E3 we got Killzone: Mercenary and Tearaway. (granted if you paid attention to announcement trailers back when Vita was shown off, we saw some glances of Killzone so knew about it already)

And this year’s E3 we got GoW: Collection, Flower and a few other ports announced.

So we’re already better off than we were last year, plus Freedom Wars floating around in Japan… and that F2P game, I can’t think the name of… and their insane initiative to make sure indies want to develop on the PS Vita.

And Vita needs some damn ads already, and a damn price drop on memory cards too.

“leaving to die” they are not.

  • rockman29

Vita is going to be a slow burner, not everything is a DS or PS2.

Games like Dragon’s Crown are Vita games. It’s value prop will win out eventually.

    • Namekaze_Minato

Vita just needs games like a new God of War or a new Dissidia Final Fantasy.

      • AnimusVox

I’d be damn happy for Type-0 to end up on Vita at some point.

  • http://insanechronos.tumblr.com/ InsaneChronos

C’mon, Sony, Legend of Dragoon 2, Persona 5 and Valkyria Chronicles 4 only on PS4!

    • kenshee

      Upvoted for legend of dragoon!

Also, please smack capcom and force them to make breath of fire 6 a ps4 Jrpg instead!

    • 罪罰

Persona 5 and Valkyria Chornicles 4 on PS4 would kill my wallet.

      • AnimusVox

But damn it’d so be worth it.

      • http://twitter.com/Sieghardt Sieghardt

P5 and Valkyria 4 and I will kill my wallet as a sacrificial offering to them

    • Coloso90909

No, Valkyria Chronicles 4 only on Vita!

    • Namekaze_Minato

P5 on Sony consoles is debatable as ATLUS is still on auction.

    • Namekaze_Minato

      Okami sequel on PS4 please!

    • Zancrow

Sony: “Legend of the what now?”

you forgot Valkyrie Profile 3 Hrist :P

vita has more jrpg than 3ds and ds combined

if you like jrpg go with PsVita

    • TheExile285

No… just no. I love my Vita but you are so wrong.

      • http://www.rapist.com ghostbooster

persona 4 golden that is all

        • 罪罰

what is that even supposed to mean.

          • http://www.rapist.com ghostbooster

a good game that the 3ds doesn’t have

            • Locksus

I very much doubt you know how many good games the 3DS has, since you’re too much of a fanboy to own one and see for yourself.

Sorry, but with the mindset that you have, you’re missing on a lot of good games.

        • TheExile285

That isn’t what you said. P4G is amazing but let’s not kid ourselves. Its a
          port with about
          30% more content.

          • http://www.rapist.com ghostbooster

            Persona5 will be Playstation3/Vita

            • TheExile285

OK, your fanboyness is showing so I’mdone wasting my time with this.

            • Namekaze_Minato

Depending on how the sale of Atlus goes…..I hope Nintendo doesn’t get it….come on SONY!

            • bloodiOS

              "Persona5 will be Playstation3/Vita"

Even assuming that Index didn’t get into the mess that they’re currently in, at this point in time, it’s more likely to be a PlayStation 4 exclusive, or at worst, a cross-platform title for next-gen consoles.

          • kenshee

to be fair, he did say more “Jrpg”, note he didn’t make that plural ;)

All kidding aside, if the vita had just 2 more games in the same league as P4G, I’d have one by now.

If SMT:IV was a vita game with fully 3d graphics in the style of nocturne (battles included I mean), I’d own a vita on that game’s release day…
Or if SE decides to make a game of crisis core’s style and quality for the vita, perhaps making it a ff X prequel?

There’s many games I’d like to exist on the vita, but so far it’s just not filling the shoes of the PSP’s successor, game-wise.

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Let’s not turn the discussion in here into some kind of Vita vs 3DS thing. Please! Thank You.

  • OverlordZetta

Welp. There goes any hope of the Vita stealing the show.

    • http://www.rapist.com ghostbooster

the vita already selling good at least bin japan
and games like god eater 2/toukiden/soul sacfice

the same can’t be said about 3DS

      • McPoo

The Vita is selling better than it was, hardly “good” though…

      • http://Xcite79.1up.com/ Keegs79

Same can’t be said about 3DS? The 3DS outsells the Vita. The Vita of course will do good. The PSP done incredible in Japan but didn’t do great here. They continued to get good games but we didn’t.

The Vita is coming out with great games but nothing that is a system seller. It needs a GTA or brand new Final Fantasy title or something. Its not getting the support from Square Enix and Rockstar that they gave the PSP.

      • SuperLuigi

3DS is the top selling system for all of 2013. You crazy

      • D4rkh4x0rer

Yeah the same can’t be said about the 3DS since it’s selling even better.

  • 罪罰

It’s time to show the good stuff.
I want this generation to be full of wonderful RPGS of all types, like the PS2.

    • Zancrow

Yeah, NES, SNES, PS1 and PS2 all had so many JRPGS.
      Man, what happened?

      • kenshee

Hrm, if you actually start counting, it’s more that the Jrpgs scattered, but may have even grown in number.

It depends on if you count the ds and psp as part of ps3’s gen? Also, ps2 had 0 competition from the first xbox and very little from the gamecube, as far as Jrpgs went.
But 360 has a very respectable amount of Jrpgs, ps3 didn’t for a long time, but has now picked up and Wii also has some instant classics. (xenoblade and TLS to me at least)

      • 罪罰

Higher development costs, harder to develop (PS3), handhelds became more popular, mainstream media backlash made many publishers scared to try new things with the genre. I hope thus changes, jrpgs are da best.

        • Pyrofrost

Don’t forget the Western market having changed due to the HUGE impact of the 360 this gen. FPSs and WRPGs made an impact on consoles like never before thanks to the 360.

The newness of those is wearing off though, and people are wanting JRPGs again. The sales are also reflecting this.

          • EX+

Yeah and in due time I see a lotof big JRPG devs and publishers to go exclusive to PS4.

            • Pyrofrost

I see it being about 2~3 years before the JRPGs start rolling in force to the PS4.

They have a HUGE PS3 audience, and it will be substantially large for quite some time.

    • EX+

Hopefully PS4 exclusives especially from Square Enix (the SquareSoft side) after FFXV and KH3. Let’s go!

  • PhoenixAutomatic~♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪~

Hell Yes!!!! TGS, Y U NO COME SOON???

  • Willgaea

For all you people saying the the vita is going to die are whining to much. Sony did state that a goal for the ps4 is to have almost every game compatible with the vita. They got priorities. Everyone does.

    • OverlordZetta

Making PS4 games compatible with the Vita doesn’t address the issue of a lack of Vita support, unless all of those titles are ALSO getting released separately on Vita.

      • Willgaea

It’s still sometime from now, but once the ps4/vita tech comes out it will encourage people to buy a vita, and in turn get more devs to make some games. I’m looking at the brightside of things right now. I’m having internet issues. :

      • Elvick

Plenty of indie support for Vita. There’s a new game announced coming to Vita each week from indies.

Tired of people acting like there’s “no” support. From large western publishers? Yeah, most don’t care about Vita. But we have a few who still do, like Ubisoft and Warner Bros still supports it. Namco Bandai is mostly leaving all it’s insane amounts of support in Japan, sadly. And from western side of them, mostly nothing. (I’d probably buy that Pac-Man game if it was coming to Vita, for instance)

The “lack” of support, really only depends on if you choose to ignore indie games.

    • Pyrofrost

While I don’t believe it’s going to die, it’s definitely not doing what they’d hoped.

People who bought the PSV, bought it to have a ‘portable console’ to play; not a PS4 companion or a portable console that gets no Western support or localization.
Sadly, it has pretty become an importer’s console, just like the PSP.

  • HeatPhoenix

    V-video games? – single tear drop –

  • kenshee

Could someone please add to my list of series and/or Devs that could possibly be revealing new next gen projects here? You know, so that we all get overly hyped and get really disappointed with the result? :p

    In no specific order:
    Tri-ace

Star ocean 5 or valkyrie profile 3. Tri-ace had that cool engine demo to show off a while ago. This was close to the time I read other Japanese devs being quoted that the next gen should come already and that engine seemed to surpass ps3’s limitations by quite a bit. From what I can tell, some of their latest work was just helping SE with ff XIII-2. It’s been over a year since they released anything and they haven’t announced anything yet, this sounds like they might’ve been working on a big project full time for a while already.

    Level-5

After white knight chronicles and ni no kuni (especially this), one can’t help but look forward to their next big project. Back in April they already said they were in the planning stages for a ps4 game and hoped to announce it soon. TGS will be about half a year later than that statement, so this one is actually not unrealistic at all.
What game, though? New IP? Dark cloud 3? Rogue galaxy 2? White knight chronicles 3? (actually fits well with next gen’s focus on online, but the game wasn’t that successful I think…) or ni no kuni 2? I’d be hyped for any of these :)

    Konami

Sure, metal gear solid V is a huge next gen game already announced, but the Jrpg fan in me still has that faint little glimmer of hope they might still bless us with suikoden VI :)

    Cyberconnect2

Just after new year this year, they said they would announce 3 new IP’s. Have any of these been shown yet? If not, it’s hard to imagine none of them would be for ps4! New IP would probably rule out a new .hack game though, which is sad.

    Mistwalker

Yes, I know how unlikely this is, but they have been very quiet after “the last story” (aside from some Iphone games) and maybe Sony will do the same as microsoft did this past gen? A sony funded ps4 exclusive Jrpg by sakaguchi with likely nobuo uematsu doing the music?
Yes, it’s just my dream. A wiiU project is actually far more likely…

    Sony

Obviously Sony themselves are working on other ps4 games, they’ve said as much in every interview at and after E3.
A thread on neogaf has a supposed ‘insider’ that everyone seems to trust, I don’t know how much of it is true obviously, it could all be false, but since my post is all about such conjecture, I felt I should point out the 2 most interesting points he made:
Obviously, the last guardian should show up one of these days, I myself have missed team ICO’s games completely, so I forgot about this one.
    More to my interest:
“‘Unannounced JRPG 2’ will be SCE’s second attempt at a big game emulating FF”
Legend of dragoon is a game incredibly important to me. I’ve been shouting “LoD2 please!” every time a sony rpg (or even game in general) was being teased.
So if this will be their second attempt and they’ll try to surpass LoD and final fantasy, that’s incredibly relevant to my interests :)

Again, this is all just my hopes that I’m very sure will mostly not be met.
Do you guys have other ideas like this?

  • kuusou yume

Persona 5 is the only thing I’m looking forward to.

    • 罪罰

      Atlus doesn’t attend to TGS.

      • AnimusVox

        They don’t?

      • Zackasaur

Last year, Atlus had a small presence. They had a little corner of the Sega booth, since Sega is a business partner which helps to distribute their games.

I have no idea whether or not they’ll appear again, and I wouldn’t expect any announcements to come from them… Unless they have something like Persona 5 in cooperation with Sony’s own conference.

But, yeah, you’re essentially right. Never put bets on Atlus announcing things at TGS.

        • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

Don’t they announce things around TGS via Famitsu or a press release of sorts?

          • 罪罰

            Yeah, pretty much.

        • kuusou yume

Boooo. This makes me sad. I would think P5 would be for the pS3 anyway

      • kuusou yume

Oh, booooo. I didn’t know that. I guess I’ll just not expect much & hopefully be surprised by some announcements.

  • kuusou yume

I really hope there will be more support for the Vita. It’s such a great handheld.

    • DrForbidden

I’m really saddened that Sony seems to have pretty much given up on the Vita now. It’s all PS4 these days…

      • kuusou yume

Yeah, they should talk more about the new Remote Play or PS4 play on the Vita. It could help sales & support.

      • Niyari

they haven’t given up on the Vita. it’s just that it’s very important to push the PS4 right now. i’m sure we’ll see a lot more support for the Vita in the future

    • Elvick

Eh, let’s see what they do at Gamescom. That’s supposedly more Vita focused.

It’s not like they’ve restricted themselves to announcements at events either. Freedom Wars as an example.

      • kuusou yume

You’re probably right. But Japan does love their mobile gaming platforms.

I’m definitely excited for this year’s TGS _<).

Quit playing games with my heart!

      • Eclipse

        Nyahahaha, never~!

The 2nd game sold quite poorly back on the Xbox… Then again, a few months ago, the 1st game got a digital release (I have no idea how well it sold), so there still may be some hope left for the series.

        • EX+

Japanese games don’t sell well on Xbox. Which’ll be good so that the PS4’s power will be used fully by Japanese devs.

          • Eclipse

            True enough, Araragi-kun.

I think the main reason that JSRF didn’t sell well on the Xbox was that the game was released on a new console that just entered the market (the game was released just three months after the Xbox launched).

        • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

I just want JSRF digital release for PS3 and PS Vita. That would satisfy me.

    • EX+

The music in Jet Set Radio is awesome. Especially Miller Ball Breakers.

Unless Sony plans to announce Legend of Dragoon 2, Legend of Legaia 3, Wild Arms 6 and a new Shenmue title during the keynote and ends with Last Guardian being shown running on the actual PS4 system, I’m not expecting much from this keynote…

I’m saving myself from disappointments, thank you very much…

    • LordKaiser

thanks for mentioning Wild Arms 6. It’s time that Matrix Software get into it.

      • Elvick

        Media.Vision makes Wild Arms.

        • LordKaiser

OK I got them mixed up, sorry about that. So they did a game for SEGA last time called Shining Ark… They’re too quiet these days.

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

      Throw Bumpy Trot 2/Steambot Chronicles 2 into the mix and I’d be a VERY happy customer. I’m still depressed that the project got canned ;w;

Oh and a new Valkyrie Profile would be nice :3

  • Elvick

Come on Dark Cloud 3… at *least*… D: Preferably more like Dark Cloud 2/Chronicle though. Felt that art design was way better suited to the task… and it’d be easier to get it looking sexy on PS4. ;D

I won’t get my hopes up though. I’ll just take what we get.

  • Noctis.orG

I still haven’t found much of a reason to pre-order one as of yet. Hope TGS shows off some great JP titles for PS4 next month~

I want dat gundam game o_o

  • EX+

I’m still kinda peeved about the whole FFXV/KH3 thing. But the way things are going, nobody is gonna buy them on xbone and they’ll run better on PS4, so the games afterwards should be PS4 exclusives. That said, I can’t wait. I’ll be happy enough if they show another badass FFXV trailer and a release date of late spring or summer of 2014 and I’ll need to buy new pants if they show KH3 gameplay. I’m hoping for a release of Spring or Summer 2015. I’d also love to see some JRPG exclusives for PS4. My TGS hype is higher than my E3 hype was. Let’s go!
