Phil Spencer to host Gamescom 2013 opening keynote

Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer will host the opening keynote at Gamescom next week, the event organizer Koelnmesse has announced.

“The industry is at a turning point,” said Spencer in a press release. “Gamescom is the ideal platform to discuss the impact of new hardware, accessories and software for the next generation of games. There has never been a better time to be a part of this industry. It is exciting to see how developers and authors to use the new opportunities and create a completely new way of playing.”

It’s expected Spencer will discuss Xbox One and the next-generation of gaming. Spencer will also host an Xbox One showcase event alongside Microsoft corporate VP Phil Harrison a day earlier, on August 20.
