Community,

Is anyone else here looking forward to Wildstar? I’m pretty excited as the dev team behind it is pretty impressive and the game looks very good to me.

    • Willgaea

      Yeah It looks pretty fun.

    • Kobracon

Love the trailers. The art and humor is like an awesome mix of WoW and Ratchet and Clank. Certainly keeping an eye on it. Signed up for the closed beta ages ago, but still no dice :/

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I’m very excited about WildStar. I could list several reasons why, I’ll just discuss one for now.

The stuff the development team has been talking about in terms of end game is very exciting. How, you won’t just get to the end of the game and have nothing but special monsters or dungeons to grind. Instead, the story really opens up and you actually start experiencing new big chapters of the story once you reach the cap.

      Very cool.

      • Locksus

Same here. It all sounds great so far. I love the fact that they are not trying to reinvent the wheel with every aspect of the game, but instead sticking to what works and brining their own flavour with it. I’m also pleased to hear that having lots of fun endgame content is a huge focus for them. I heard that 50-70% of their development team is focusing on endgame content.

I’m also a fan of the visual style, which reminds me of WoW, which is not a bad thing at all. Vibrant colors are generally more fun to look at than brown and dark colors.

And the player housing looks so fun. I just hope that it’s just not going to make the capital cities uninhabited.

        But I’m very optimistic.

EDIT: Oh, yeah. Have you been in the Beta yet? I’ve signed up for it, but haven’t got in as of yet. I’ll most likely roll an Aurin Esper. How about you?

        • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I’m also very optimistic. I signed up for the beta ages ago, still not luck for me either.

I really can’t be sure what I’ll play as. I think I’ll likely play the explorer path though.

          • Locksus

Yeah, I’ll go with either explorer path or the scientist. I love exploring, but I’m also very interested in the game’s lore.

  • Tac-Mex

Are you going to get an Xbone?

    • Locksus

Nah, most likely not. I’m not really into the exclusive series it has. They’re not bad per say, but not for me anymore.

I’ll most likely stick with my PC, 3DS. I’ll maybe get a PS4/Wii U somewhere down the line, but not really sure.

    • McPoo

Maybe at some point in the future. Saving for a holiday though so doubt I’ll get either next gen until well into next year. I suppose by that point I’ll be able to make a decision based on everything available etc.

    • Azuardo

No. I’ve never bought an Xbox console. There just hasn’t seemed to be that many exclusives I would like the console for. If Rare were how they used to be in the N64 days, I might have a different view. I wouldn’t mind a 360 at some point for the odd few games to try out, but it’d have to drop really low in price first. I’ll probably end up with a 360 eventually but this is talking, what… 8 years after its original release? I imagine the same thing will be the case for me with Xbox One.

    • 罪罰
    • Elvick

      Never.

    • Willgaea

If they got the games, I’ll get it but right now I’m not interested.

    • DichaTesoro

If there are some interesting games, sure. Kind of poor, so I’ll most likely wait a few years for a next gen console…unless there’s a game I NEED.

    • MosquitoLemon

I don’t buy anything until it has time to build up a library, so maybe in 4-5 years? Same goes for PS4

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Not at launch. Sometime in the future? I’m not sure. I think there is a lot for Microsoft to prove, and the direction they really decide to go remains to be seen.

  • bloodiOS

    Please fund Monochroma:

    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/445804219/monochroma

Personally, I’d love it if the staffs would write an article to cover the project, too.

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

      I’ve already backed it. ^^

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I’m not entirely sure why Gematsu stopped covering Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Masou Kishin III – Pride of Justice, but there have been two new videos uploaded since their last article. I sent in the previous one from last week, last week, then posted it on the forum, but we still didn’t get an article for it *sigh*

I caught a glimpse of their roadmap while they were updating the main website (I’m assuming they didn’t mean to leave the dates for the following clips up since it was taken down shortly after) and we should have two more attack clips and another PV before the game comes out. They will be coming out weekly.

    Anyway, here’s the latest one.

      also Killer is Dead!

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Speaking of which… I’m playing right now, lol.

        • PrinceHeir

          nice!!!!

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

            Aw yiss

Totally using the reversible cover from now on, haha

            • Kobracon

              JP version?

              • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

                You know it ヽ(*・ω・)ノ

                • 罪罰

                  ヽ(*・ω・)ノ I’m jealous

                  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

It’s actually pretty good so far (`・ω・´)”

The camera can be a little troublesome at times, but it’s not like Ryu ga Gotoku: Kenzan! or Ninja Gaiden bad ww

Still, pretty fun game though. I’m just having trouble figuring out how to just guard now. I usually just end up dodging instead ( ´∀`)

I need to give Mind-0 a try later though. My Vita has been basically occupied with the God Eater 2 demo since it was released~

                • Kobracon

Saw it at my local game shop but they had no idea what the Premim edition inlcuded when I asked. What does it give you?

                  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

                    Hrm~

Unless I’m mistaken, it gives you three DLC costumes (1 for three different girls… One of them being for Mika, the other being for Vivienne, and the last one… I’m not sure yet), a bonus mission (mission 51, probably a nod to Suda 51, I imagine :P), and the gigolo glasses to help you through gigolo missions. I think that’s everything though, iirc.

                    • Kobracon

Oh I thought you can get the Gigolo glasses in game?

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Well, you might be able to. I’m not sure exactly. All I know is, it makes these missions a lot easier, haha.

            • PrinceHeir

yeah it’s been known that the game is reverse cover for awhile now ^^

hope the US is also reversible cover!!

              • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Yeah! I needed to view the other side for the DLC code anyway (・◇・)

            • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Just posting this for the lulz since I did my first gigolo mission last night. I don’t know where I would have been without those gigolo glasses though! Thank you, Premium Edition ≖‿≖

Kind of random, but I just found out about a campaign taking place right now for Killer is Dead. Apparently Juliet makes an appearance in the game, but she’s pretty difficult to find. If you DO manage to find her though, you can enter a raffle with a chance to win a replica of Mondo’s katana, t-shirts, or other sorts of goodies.

I’m sure Juliet will remain in the NA version, but I seriously doubt they will do a raffle like this. Still… That’s pretty neat. I’m not sure if I will find her though, haha.

So, I finally paid the DLC girl, Betty, a visit~

And 3rd visit to Betty, heh. I’ve got my visits to Scarlett uploading after the challenges in the game, so those should be up in 2-3 hours or so. I’ll post my visit with her later since she was the last girl on my list~

Does anyone here play the Warriors Orochi series? I haven’t played any of them, nor a Dynasty Warriors game, but I know they’re related. Is Orochi a spin-off series of Dynasty? I’m seriously interested in Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate that’s due in Japan soon, after all of the characters like Kasumi and Sophitia being added to it. Must play as Kasumi…

Finally finished Banjo-Tooie. Bit too much backtracking involved
compared to the first one, but a great game for its time, definitely. I
should probably give Jet Force Gemini and Perfect Dark a go some
    time…

Slowly playing Ni no Kuni (Drippy is amazing) and Okami HD, and also started Cloudberry Kingdom and NFS Most Wanted.

I am also waiting for “The Sky: The Art of Final Fantasy” by Yoshitaka Amano to arrive!

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Sky-Fantasy-Slipcased-Edition/dp/1616551607/ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

    • PrinceHeir

Orochi is just a combination of tons of Koei games like Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, Bladestorm, Legends of Troy and tons of guest characters like from Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive, and has their own characters as well.

you could say it’s a “Dream” game of all the Tecmo Koei games thrown into one.

hopefully we get more Atelier characters as well as Hokuto no Ken characters like Kenshiro, Toki, Rei, and such!!

i hope the Ultimate version will be just as fast as DW8 :)

      • Azuardo

Ohhh, thank you. I had no idea it was a mash-up of all sorts! I mean, I saw Ryu Hayabusa and Ayane in there, then now Kasumi and Sophitia, but I didn’t realise there were so many other collaborative characters too. As you know, I love DOA and Kasumi, and I enjoyed the Ninja Gaiden games (haven’t played 3 yet…waiting for Razor’s Edge to go cheaper), and I loved SoulCalibur back in the day (haven’t played since SC2), so this is why I’m now really interested in Orochi 3 Ultimate.

Would you say it’s the sort of series that’s okay to start at this title, or should I start by playing other Dynasty/Orochi games first? I think I already know that I will just end up getting Orochi 3 Ultimate, though lol.

        • PrinceHeir

you should get Razor’s Edge now!!

very worth it! especially compared to vanilla version.

i have all Soul Calibur games except 1(PSN release Namco!) the series really interested my despite not playing the games that much XD

you could start here, the story is always a stand alone(in this case they’re using the same story as 3 but added refinements to Ultimate)

tbh i debated to myself whether or not should i play Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, or Orochi Warriors.

i always prefer the mish mash of everything so i prefer playing Orochi.

at the same time each have their unique feel.

if you want a more fleshed out chinese mythology then go with Dynasty Warriors, for Japanese i would say either Orochi or Samurai Warrior(i choose Orochi)

i hope the improvements of DW8 in terms of speed, new graphics engine, battle system will carry on Orochi Warriors 3 Ultimate.

DW8 seems to be the blend of the best DW game yet!

          • Azuardo

I have a certain price barrier for certain games so I’m still holding for the right price for Razor’s Edge. It’s creeping down to the price I want, though! I forget if I asked you this but… is it difficult to unlock Kasumi in it? I heard she wasn’t playable at the start and you have to go through the whole game as Ryu and Ayane. Is it possible to do it on the easiest setting and still unlock Kasumi?

Thank you for the info on the Warriors games. I’m sure I’ll just end up waiting for Orochi 3 Ultimate to come out over here before I play the series, but adding those characters is definitely one way to get me started on it! But I will keep an eye on DW8 prices too…and we shall see :)

            • Kobracon

WO3U would certainly be a good intro to both Dynasty Warriors or Samurai Warriors. If you have a tolerance for repetitiveness, you will definitely get bang for your buck coz WO3 vanilla alone has over 100 characters to level up.

            • PrinceHeir

tbh i just played the single player and all three characters were unlock on the get go.

though i played it on hard on my first try since i already played the vanilla version.

also you’ll unlock the nightmare costume if you have the vanilla version save.

if you don’t have the save you can follow the instructions here.

              http://www.gamespot.com/ninja-gaiden-3-razor-s-edge/forum/have-ng3-save-but-bonus-costume-not-unlocked-65872183/?page=0

i uploaded my save, but there’s no name on it so don’t worry about it ^^

though there’s no exclusive mission besides Ayane(which is mandatory in your first play through)

the three playable characters can be played using the story mode stages without cutscenes.

you could try Ninja Trials which you already know how it works.

              yup!

you could also do the Scarab glitch if you want :P

              http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfBJqJ0C-IM

unfortunately the items only stays in one difficulty, can transfer to the next.

which is a shame since Metal Gear Rising allows you to carry over your data in any difficulty.

              • Azuardo

Helpful information, thank you :) I will definitely check this again when I get the game!

  • PrinceHeir

can anyone here link me a tutorial on how to make a Japanese PSN account?

i plan on creating one to redeem some of my codes from import games like MGS The Legacy Collection and all.

also things i need to be aware of and such

    • Azuardo

I used this one when I made mine:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-LDmmf7Q3Y

From what I remember, it was a good guide, so hopefully it will be for you too.

      • PrinceHeir

        thanks :D

will watch and see if i have some problems so i’ll ask you ^^

    • DrForbidden

Sorry, I made mine years ago. Can’t remember how I did it.

Hey, that seems to be a theme…T_T

      • PrinceHeir

        it’s okay!

    • z_merquise

      Check this one:

      http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=14868403

I sent it to you long ago in an e-mail, hehe.

    • ddsfan2

Make sure to get a relatively current tutorial, because it’s changed substantially since I made mine in 2010. They made it a lot closer to the US (presumably EU as well? I need to make an EU account) PSN now, so it isn’t as confusing as it used to be.

How good are you with kanji? There are a few questions that they ask, such as your address, which can be a little tricky. If you get stuck, you could take a photo and use OCR software, then feed it into google translate.

  • PrinceHeir

what other online stores do you buy for import games?

these are the only things i know

    http://www.play-asia.com/

    http://www.yesasia.com/us/en/home.html

    http://www.nippon-yasan.com/lang-en/

    http://www.solarisjapan.com/

    http://www.paletweb.com/

    http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/

i know japan has their own online store like

    http://ebten.jp/eb-store/

    http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/

i’m not sure if they ship outside of japan :(

    anymore?

    • Belenger

http://www.amiami.com, asides plethora of merchandize they also do game related stuff, thumbs up for solarisjapan store, I’ve bought a few vitas over there.

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I mainly use CDJapan. They’ve got a nice point system. I’m sure they’re not the only one, but they are who I started using after Play-Asia.

    • Eclipse

I use quite a few of those sites, but my main one is AmiAmi.

They offer the best prices when it comes to games, and, like Belenger said, they also offer a wide variety of merchandise related to anime & games.

Their point system is pretty decent and every now and then they’ll occasionally have some pretty massive sales.

      • PrinceHeir

how does the point system works?

yeah i saw alot of BD animes and figures :)

i plan on getting Ghost in the Shell Arise from them since they have english subtitle and US and Japan share the same region code ^^

        • Eclipse

It’s kind of similar to CDJapan’s, but not as good.

You basically get points for everything you buy, so if you’re a frequent shopper, they tend to add up fast.

CDJapan wins when it comes to their point system, but AmiAmi is far better with their pricing. Here’s a link for their sales section if you’re curious: http://www.amiami.com/top/page/c/sale.html

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Yeah, I love CDJapan’s point system. I bought a Limited Edition of Eikichi Yazawa’s latest album just from using my points alone, haha. So I basically spent $40 in points and only $5 in shipping or so, so I ended up getting 4 discs (3 for music + 1 DVD with PVs and such) in the package for basically $5.

            It was amazing ( ´ ▽ ` )

            • Eclipse

Nice! They really are quite generous with their point system, aren’t they? I managed to get around $80 worth of points in one month, so I ended up blowing all of it on a bunch of CDs… It almost felt like I was stealing, haha.

Playstation Euphoria has posted an article on Playstation All Stars that needs a little publicity. It’s official word from SSM on no more dlc characters and a fall balance patch.

EB Games shipped Tales of Xillia… even though I could have swore I cancelled it, but thinking about it. I think I was having website troubles when I was trying to.. and maybe I forgot to go back and do it.

This sucks, since I have the LE preordered at the store. :| Wasted $60, plus tax. D:

    • Tetsu

EB Games? Where do you live?

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

        1999, lol.

        • Tetsu

Lol ain’t that the truth. I remember when they would go by there double short name EBX. The only one near me was 200 miles away, and it was the most amazing store I ever saw. A whole store, devoted to games?
          Heaven.
Now it’s a bother to deal with GameStop associates, wooo

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Man, I remember even before that when I had a store called Babbage’s in our local mall before it became an EB Games, then switched to a Gamestop. I feel shopping in-store for games is rather unconventional in this day and age though since everything we need is just a click away with the mouse.

It also doesn’t help that most of the games I want are imports, which they don’t carry anyway.

            • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I so remember Babbage’s. I might have bought my copy of FF7 at Babbage’s. In fact, I think I did. =)

      • Elvick

        Canada

        • Tetsu

Oh that’s right, I remember someone else mentioning Canadian EB Games. I wonder why they didn’t change their title? Or is it a separate owner?

          • Elvick

It’s the same, if I go to gamestop.com it tries to redirect to eb games. And I remember back when I lived in Kansas (over 5 years ago) they had both logos on those membership cards.

    • DrForbidden

You can sell it on e-bay and recoup some of the money. Or give it away as a present?

  • Willgaea

I’m finally able to watch youtube videos again. Our sprint airave was behind all the laggy break ups on my connection. :]

  • EX+

Again, I’ve found some interesting stuff this week. As we all know the Xbox one has gotten a 53MHz clockspeed increase. As far as I know this laughable ‘upgrade’ won’t help it much. However as small as thisupgrade is, I’m curious as to how M$ plans to release the XB1 without having the RROD2 on their hands. It’s really late in the game to do this.

Also, apparently, BF4 will run better on the XB1, because it has Direct X11.1 in the console. Now if you don’t know FFXV and KH3 use Direct X11. So I was a bit concerned. However Bloodios sent me a very useful article on the PS4’s Direct X11 features:
    http://www.geek.com/games/sony-iimprove-directx-11-for-the-ps4-blu-ray-1544364/
So what do you guys think? Will the PS4 have the best versionof these games?

EDIT: There are some flaws within the article though. The PS4 uses open GL but is compatible with Direct X11. But apparently it’s improved.

    • ddsfan2

DirectX is so overrated, it’s only an API. I don’t understand why everyone in the gaming industry has treated it like gospel since the mid 90’s, when it’s only been relevant on Windows and Xbox, and not even that much so on the latter.

Not only that, but most AAA PS3/360 developers don’t even use the “high level” APIs (DirectX, OpenGL, etc) for performance reasons. Maybe this will be the first generation where that changes, but I doubt it.

If anything, non-AAA developers are far more likely to just use higher level graphics libraries that are even further abstracted from the hardware, more portable, and easier to develop for.

  • Kobracon

Thank god for R3 PS3 games! Not only are they cheaper but they also come out earlier than the US. Enjoying the hell outta Dragon’s Crown right now. The Amazon is a spinning ball of DEATH!

Just waiting for the letter from the producer on 8/8 to let us know when phase 4 begins.

  • LadyK

It’s been a few months to a year maybe last time I actually logged in Gematsu and I have to say how amazing the site and community is now. (I knew the site as scrawlfx (?) even before Sal changed it to Gematsu) So I guess my previous posts from waaaay before are gone since this new profile thing popped up indicating the number of posts and what not xP Not that I’m complaining, major improvements now~! Still one of of my most favorite gaming sites to visit for any new info ^-^

Dragon’s Crown or Killer is Dead – I’m deciding which to get. I already pre-ordered Tales of Xillia so unfortunately I can only afford to get one more for August xD Guess I’ll need to decide soon for Dragon’s Crown since it’s out Tuesday and I do like the art book <3

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

      Welcome back!

You should be able to merge your old profile with the new one (Disqus.)

Here is a post I made about doing just that. It’s a bit old but should still work just fine.

    • PrinceHeir

i hope you stay for good now :)

  • Raiyu

So I decided to try and finish Graces f before Xillia arrives here on Tuesday. I’m in the future arc fighting the last boss and I’m getting my ass handed to me. What party members do you guys usually use in your party? I use to have Asbel, Sophie, Malik, and Hubert then I switched it up to Asbel, Sophie, Malike and Cheria and things have gotten a bit better.

    • Elvick

I always use Asbel, Sophie, Hubert and Cheria. Since those three can all heal, and Asbel is the easiest for me to use effectively.

I need to get back into the future arc, I’m in the final dungeon and I hate it. Tough enemies and confusing level layout that forces you forward.

    • http://www.facebook.com/micheal.scott.315 Micheal Scott

The team I use to beat it was Asbel, Cheria, Pascal and Richard.
      Asbel role tanking
      Richard role dps
      Pascal role dps
      Cheria role heals

  • bldudas

I’m playing Toki to Towa while waiting for Tales of Xillia. Toki to Towa is not that bad. People make it sound like an unplayable, broken mess, which it is not. I actually like the story.

    • 罪罰

I’ve heard the gameplay is fun, simple and not grindish.

      • bldudas

I’ve never had to grind. It’s really fun game play.

    • Elvick

Yeah it’s no where near as bad as it’s made out to be, but it’s a JRPG so people tend to roll with the severe negative opinions easily. Since most people don’t even like JRPGs to begin with.

      • bldudas

        True :(

I was so glad. I don’t even remember what he said those times on the roof, but I remember him for some reason. Hehe.

        • MosquitoLemon

I know, I would just go onto the roof periodically to see if anything was there, and it’d be like, “Oh, it’s just round kid…”

  • MosquitoLemon

My US PSN account isn’t connecting anymore for some reason, so that’s pretty much screwed my regular plays of Tekken Revolution and SSX (and Demon’s Souls, to some extent). I’m trying to get into some sweet roguelikes now, messing around with Shiren 4.

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Probably a dumb question, but… Have you tried contacting Sony’s customer support about this issue to see what could be wrong? I remember back when PSN was hacked, they did ban a handful of individuals that weren’t responsible. There could have just been a mistake in their system which is now blocking your system ID from accessing PSN because it’s been flagged with CFW or your I.P. address has been blacklisted.

Either way, I’d definitely call and try to find out what’s up.

      • MosquitoLemon

edit – it was just a router problem. Having more and more good Revolution matches lately, I think the community is a good mix.

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Well… Just sent in a story idea to a video game company. I said, “screw the middleman!” and went up the totem pole, sending an e-mail with the idea to someone high up in the company. Maybe they will pass it on and see what others think about it. Either way, I look forward to hearing back from them.

I think I’ve got something good going here, but as I told them in the e-mail… I’m sure they have plenty of people come up to them, proposing ideas and telling them that they are good, so I simply just asked for a few minutes of their time to read over the premise of my story and let me know what they think.

    Keeping my fingers crossed!

    • 罪罰

I write my game ideas on a notebook, It’s almost filled with sketches and ideas since I carry with it everywhere I go and when I get an idea I immediately stop whatever I’m doing and write on it (I was inspired by Golden Boy).

I’ve always wanted to do that but I’m not really that brave or I just believe I can create it by my own but I’ll root for you buddie!

      頑張れ

      Did I get that right
(I just started learning Japanese since my gf became my teacher)

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Well, I’m still working on a mecha war novel that has been in the works for over a year now. I do have a lot of “skeletons” though, I guess you could say. You know, plenty of ideas, but no real meat to them since I didn’t flesh them out.

I wouldn’t really say I’m brave either, honestly, but I suppose I do have enough confidence in my grammar, so I could just piggyback on that if I ever need an ego boost, haha. Also, I don’t know a whole lot of Kanji, so I’m not entirely sure what you’re trying to say there, but… You could have just used “ganbatte/がんばって” instead, lol.

            This is a man’s story!

            ;w;

        • Kobracon

Sounds cool. I’ve been working on a idea of a turn based RPG with the theme of Madness and insanity. Still highly a work in progress coz I can’t think of a balanced battle system…

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Just off the top of my head? You have to keep fighting monsters or else your sanity will return to normal. If that happens, then you will be pushed back into the real world, which will lead to a game over.

Think of it as the glasses/TV mechanic in Persona 4. Everything is normal on the outside, but unless you go into the TV to fight the shadows, the real world will basically end. So, maybe there are certain things you can only see when you are insane, which makes sense, and that’s the only way you can kill them.

On that note, when you level up, you could increase your insanity gauge to make yourself stronger and less likely to return to the real world. So, in short, you sacrifice your sanity to save the world, but nobody would know it because this all took place inside of your head, as far as everyone else is concerned, since they could never see the demons you were fighting.

            Ta-da~

    • MosquitoLemon

Haha, see I can come up with great game ideas, but I cannot write a story to save me. Like I’d get halfway through and be all, “NOOO, this is just season 2 of Digimon!!”

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

To be fair, it is difficult to come up with something original these days. A lot of the stuff you see in anime, video games, movies, books, and even hear in music, is usually just a mixture of different ideas, making it give the illusion that it’s original. Think of it as a standard sedan automobile VS an SUV.

The SUV basically just built upon the sedan and made it a bit bigger since there were people that preferred the sedan, but just wished it was larger. Both choices have redeeming qualities, but it all comes down to personal preference. There are plenty of people out there that may like Devil May Cry or Bayonetta, but didn’t care for the characters, so they want to look for something similar in terms of gameplay.

It’s sort of like that, I guess, haha.

        • MosquitoLemon

Yeah, I get that there’s nothing new under the sun, but I don’t think everything from now on needs to be a palate swap (like EX Troopers vs Lost Planet). Like, regardless of FFVII being mired with cliches, it was still an original story for a videogame, and had plot elements that I hadn’t seen in a game before (or since).

I don’t think I could come up with anything like that on my own, but even today I’ve rarely seen a ‘new’ gameplay idea that I don’t have scrawled down somewhere on an old design document. I’d come up with something nearly identical to the FFXIII battle system around the time that VIII came out, down to the ‘paradigm’ types, multiple character actions and single-character control. Say what you will about XIII, but when I saw the battles I was like, “Oh, someone else thought this was a good idea!”

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Actually, the E.X. Troopers VS Lost Planet is a perfect example of what I was talking about. I couldn’t stand Lost Planet, but with a slight tweak here and there, as well as slapping a new coat of paint onto it… I was really excited about the game! I find E.X. Troopers to be much more enjoyable because of the anime and cel-shading style, plus the gameplay itself feels more fun to me as well.

As for your idea regarding FFXIII though… Stuff like that doesn’t surprise me, honestly. How many people do you think were sitting in their homes thinking of how to create the automobile and came to the conclusion that a round tire would make the most sense? It doesn’t matter whose idea it was though, it only matters who got the patent to it and invented or helped invent it.

Otherwise it just turns into a “he said she said” dilemma. I could just as easily say I came up with the concept for the PS3, but it doesn’t mean squat unless I can back it up with proof. By “proof”, I mean more than just scribbles and doodles in an “old design document”… Something more substantial.

            • MosquitoLemon

Hey, woah! I don’t know where you got the idea that I was taking credit for FFXIII, I’m just saying that I believe there are plenty of untapped story ideas out there, and that I’m not going to be the one to come up with them, hahha. On the other hand, I’ve only seen a few games with gameplay that either aren’t retreads, or aren’t something that I (and yeah, probably a lot of other people) hadn’t already come up with.

Specifically, the only one that really blew me away in recent memory was Knights in the Nightmare, which was like danmaku + SRPG and yet not really either of those things.

And you lay off muh scibbles. FFXIII 4 lyfe, copyrite MosquitoLEmon!!!

              • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I thought that’s what you were getting at, lol. You’d be surprised how many people I’ve talked with before about FFXIII that said they came up with the battle system, haha. I think a lot of companies are probably scared to try new ideas though since it could mean a loss of money.

We’re living in an age where money is more important than innovation, honestly. Companies are less willing to take risks with games these days, like they were in the 80’s and 90’s, so we’re basically seeing all these rehashed games and big franchises that just won’t die (see: Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, etc.).

                • MosquitoLemon

Yeah, and again, people can say what they want about Square and FF – that brand has always been about experimenting with new ideas*. It wasn’t until recent memory that they started making actual sequels to FF games – and those games in and of themselves are usually different from the mainline titles. (still waiting on my FFXIII royalty checks)

But yeah, it’s really sad that developers can only bank on “Popular Title: Part X”, and that the announcements which get people most excited are for “Popular Title: HD Edition”. Even I’m guilty of wanting sequels to my favorite PS2 titles, if only because they had great gameplay that I’ve sorely missed in the past few years.

But here’s a serious question – do you think indie developers are the last hope for creating innovative IPs? I personally think ‘indie’ has become a dirty word that conjures up ultra-pretentiousness, navel-gazing, and ‘ironic’ retro titles that ironically miss the point of good game design.

*though it’s interesting that many of the most popular and enduring FF titles are those that were the most similar – I, IV, VI, VII, IX… while the innovative titles are either cult favorites or just widely panned – II, III, V, VIII, X, XII

                  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I’m not really that big into Indie stuff, to be honest. Maybe back in the day when I played Out of This World, but not these days. The closest I’ve come to anything “Indie” in this day and age would be Shadowrun Returns. Truth be told though, I don’t really NEED something to be original for me to enjoy it.

                    • Kobracon

True. Ultimately a game needs to be made well. Indie or triple, if its genuinely good and fun to play, it really doesn’t matter if its original or a cliche’d idea.

                    • MosquitoLemon

Yeah, exactly. My point was sort of that indie people aren’t bound by this, “Make a sequel or your product will fail!” reality, and yet they rarely come up with anything clever or entertaining (or at least enduring).

Triple A is another term I can’t stand. Having a big budget and media presence doesn’t always make for a good game. Most of my favorites were made by small-potatoes developers who took a risk… and were usually punished for it.

              • Kobracon

YEAH Knights of the Nightmare. Absolutely unique and possibly too much to its detriment. The system takes so long to understand, but once you do, its an amazing experience

    • dzeidzei

Hmm… Is there anything about the story or the setting you could share? :P

  • 罪罰

    I just saw Drive (2011).
Damn that movie was really something, all the stylish visuals and the way they handled everything was really unique and bold. The music was catchy and fitting and though it had a very simple narrative and barely any talk it managed to really grab me. I recommend it if you guys haven’t seen it and if you like Hotline Miami then you should definitely see this one!

    • McPoo

This got hyped to hell and back on another site I use, so me and my girlfriend finall watched it and both thought it was utter crap. It’s not my sort of thing to begin with, all style and no substance. I’m happy with a film light on substance, but its gotta have something to make up for it, and style just isn’t enough in my opinion. Bland characters, countless minutes of staring into nothing and a generic story are all I saw. And a decent soundtrack.

I actually expected my girlfriend to like it as she’s a film enthusiast and likes all sorts, but she felt the same way.

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I also consider myself a bit of a film enthusiast. I didn’t care for Drive either.

The scenes where the characters just stared at each other and said nothing for what seemed like forever…

It made me feel disconnected from the characters, rather than connected. That’s very important for me in films.

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Derp. I was about to go to sleep before even posting this. So, for those of you interested in testing out the character benchmark for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, I’ll be supplying a couple of links below where you can download it from on the official website. This also acts as an official benchmark tester for the game itself so you can test your hardware and see how it scores to see if you can run the game properly.

Also, any appearance data you create with the character benchmark can be transferred into phase 4 of beta testing and/or the official release, so be sure to save it when you’ve made a nice looking character! For those of you that have already created a character in phase 3 and are curious to know what’s new in this version… From what I could tell, all I saw was a new feature for hair. You can now add highlights to your hair.

This might have been in phase 3, but I don’t think so… I think I would have remembered something like that, cause I certainly don’t remember giving my character highlights, even though I would have (like I have now, putting chestnut brown highlights on golden blonde hair~). If you want to see how the character creator is before downloading it (since it is over 2 GB), I’ll be supplying a link below as well which shows me using it and basically recreating the character I made during phase 3 ( ´∀`)

Anyway, first things first. The download links!

EDIT: Also, be sure to select the quality as 720p. It’s in a 4:3 ratio due to me still running on a CRT monitor, so the text and stuff can be kind of blurry if you’re watching it at 360p.

  • Charlottes Guardian

So this Everquest Next….. I’m hype!!
I like the ideas they’re implementing and I love the overall look of the game. My only concern is will the combat be fun and inventive, and thats mostly because were so in the dark right now! xD I have high hopes for the future of this game, can’t wait to know more.

What do you guys think? Excited for this, or are you more looking forward to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Wildstar, or ESO? I’m interested to know what you guys are hype for!

    • Zackasaur

This and FFXIV: ARR are the most interesting to me. I’ll ignore Wildstar and ESO.

    • dzeidzei

I’m very much hyped for ARR. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for Everquest too. I’m a total newbie when it comes EQ. It sounds like they’re trying to do a lot of revolutionary things with the game which I think is intriguing.

  • new_tradition

Hey guys, humour me. How do you describe the RPG video game genre?

I’m playing Gods Eater Burst for the PSP (am I the only one that always forgets the ‘s’ in ‘Gods’? xD) right now and its been described as an action RPG, but I don’t think that’s correct. Plenty of action, for sure, but I’m not entirely sure that it’s an RPG.

Personally, I’ve counted games with character growth (i.e. Level up/stat boosts) as RPGs, but unless I’m missing something, I haven’t seen that appear. You can create and upgrade equipment, but I don’t think it counts as growth…

But then, you create a character and playthrough the story (i.e. Role playing), so does that alone count it as an RPG? Technically, you do this in almost any game anyways, so there’s more to it, right?

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I want to say its an action game with role playing elements. I haven’t played God Eater Burst yet, so it’s tough for me to try and describe it based on videos and articles.

    • Kobracon

Its an RPG the same way Monster Hunter is an RPG, as in not really :/

I think whats important is constant character progression. Your character isn’t static throughout the game, he is improving through his gear.

  • Karysonson

Who here is getting Tales of Xillia next week?

      I’m playing Milla side first

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I was planning on doing the same. Thing is, I was told by some who played the Japanese version not to pick Milla first.

From what I understand, the story in her version takes for granted the player has already played Jude’s story.

Anyone care to clear that up for me? I want to make sure I’m giving good info here.

        • Karysonson

ummm without stating spoilers something happens latter in the game where jude is the best to play as and after that you come back latter with milla and find out what exactly happend.

O’ ok I see so they say play Jude’s side first so you can get a better or somewhat understanding of what Milla story is about. Ok I get it but I’ll still play Milla first just because I’m more crease about her then Jude. :D
But ill replay this game like a 100x so we all win XD

          • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Nice. Play it the way you want. What’s important is that you are having fun, right? ^^

    • dzeidzei

Me too. I doubt I’ll start playing it right away, though, as I have plans to start no-lifing FFXIV, and I don’t want to be in the middle of anything heavy when that one comes out. I have a feeling I’ll skip a lot of games :(

  • z_merquise
    • shogunknight

Dear lord, it looks so detailed and awesome. Id be a security guard any day wearing this

    • MosquitoLemon

Dang, I forgot about that game, gotta get on it and Bayonetta when I have more time :O

    • Kobracon

  • HassanJamal

Its Dragons Crown week! Who else is buying it other than me. Im buying on ps vita :D

    • AnimusVox

I’m buying it on both. But only to play with my friends who just have either system.
      And to support vanillaware :3

      • HassanJamal

Good on ya man! Vanillaware deserves great sales! :)

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I’m getting both versions. The Vita version is for a friend though. I’m going to stick with the PS3 version for now.

      • HassanJamal

Thats nice of ya, shame there isnt cross play. Anyways, hope both of ya enjoy the game :D

    • Kobracon

      Already playing it :D

R3 version baby! Cheaper and earlier XD

      • HassanJamal

I really am tempted to buy the Asian copy but I main a US account on my vita. Who knows what DLC they’ve got planned for this sweet game. Anyways, enjoy your awesome game dude! :)

  • $18114340

So the new Rise of the Triad has been out for a few days now. Who else here has played it?

    http://youtu.be/wOAemee0xBI

And yeah, the Steam version is DRM-free as well.

  • jonsonicu64

i wish capcom made a new megaman game sure its nice he in new ssb for wii u but i want a game of only him

    • shogunknight

Yeah, but it seems capcom dont even know what to do with him. Probably if he gets good reception in super smash a game would be considered. They could just do a megaman that looks exactly like the one in smash or with the new striders looks, i dont even mind it 2d like ZX or Zero series

      • MosquitoLemon

Yeah, I don’t think they know what Mega Man the fans want either. Some people probably want a new retro game, even though 9 and 10 didn’t sell really well, some people want a new legends, some people want a new X, some people want a Zero-type game…

The Smash Bros Mega Man is basically the Powered Up Mega Man, minus the giant head… Powered Up didn’t do too well either, which was a shame because it had a sweet level editor.

        • shogunknight

Must be tough, but thats why surveys are available. It may help get a quick look at the reception of the different megaman categories

        • Kobracon

I…think its more fair to say its the original Megaman, not the Powered Up Megaman. Rather the original one from the SNES days.

    • SolarisSpell

I miss 2D MagaMan X games. It would be nice ti have a new one. I specially love X4.

  • shogunknight

You guys may already know this, seems Konami wants to know our opinion on the future of MGS:Rising through a survey. Its completely different to their style of MGS but i personally really loved the game, i hope they make more of this game. Platinum games did a real good job.

    Survey can be found here:

    http://www.metalgearsolid.com/landing/

Edit: The surveys darn long XD

    • z_merquise

I did participated in the survey. I think that survey may help gauge interest for a Metal Gear Rising sequel.

I would really love to see a sequel with an improved gameplay and content. Of course, Platinum should be the one to develop it.

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I wanted to apologize to you. I wasn’t home in time to get the open forum image you requested. I’ll make sure I get the sorceress as the image for next week!

        • z_merquise

Oh hey, it’s fine. I think it’s was someone else who said Sorceress. I only just said Dragon’s Crown-related image. But any image would be okay. Thanks!

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Ummm… What? I just tried filling it out and was abruptly brought to a page which said:

“Hi there, we value your opinion!

We’re sorry, but you don’t meet the requirements to enter this survey.”

Well, fuck you too then :|

I guess they don’t want someone who has multiple gaming consoles and has played all of the Metal Gear games up to this point excluding Portable Ops and Ac!d.

EDIT: Oh and if I attempt to try it again, it just says:

“Sorry you can’t participate in the same survey twice.”

Oh well then. So much for “valuing” my opinion X3

      • shogunknight

I see, this probably means they have a criteria of options or conditions which have to be picked to proceed. Not only that the survey is long, they are very strict too

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Just finished the survey. Yeah, that was really darn long. I sure hope my answers help encourage Kojima and PG to make a sequel. =)

    • http://www.rapist.com ghostbooster

zero escape virtue is such a good visual novel

      • SuperLuigi

Agreed. Best I’ve played since phoenix wright.

  • Elvick

Did anyone hear end up buying Remember Me? I got it and it’s pretty spiffy, though I still stick to feeling Capcom would have been better off releasing it at $40 at launch.

Gameplay is serviceable, but it’s nothing special. But the story is, so far, really interesting and I like the main character. Music is pretty good. Character models, and animation, are a bit weird looking… especially considering how good the environments look.

    • http://www.rapist.com ghostbooster

i did buy but i didn’t play it i stopped after two hours

the game didn’t interest me enough

    • McPoo

I actually bought it last night for 20 quid. I’ve wanted it since release but didn’t wanna pay more than that for it, and I’m glad I stuck to that.

It’s not bad by any means, I actually reminds me of Enslaved. It’s got gorgeous graphics, and the story is passable. The combats pretty boring though, and as great as the platforming is to watch, it’s not much fun to play. Tbh I think we are of the same opinion here.

I’ll keep at it though, the setting is great and the concept is really interesting, it just doesn’t seem like it was worth full whack.

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I couldn’t afford it at launch, but I might still pick it up here soon.

      • McPoo

It’s one of those games that you could watch a Let’s Play of and get everything you need from that.

If you’re short on cash, that might be an option? Otherwise I’d recommend just waiting until it’s dead cheap.

        • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I’m thinking about buying it on steam. I’m not in any hurry to buy it.

          • McPoo

Ah fair enough, I imagine it’ll come down in price fairly quickly. This is why I need a PC, for cheap games >_<

    • 罪罰

The music is really good indeed!
Everything else was straight up garbage for me.

    • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

I was playing it before my PS3 died. It’s not bad, but the story was kind of corny—how society is entirely based around memories. It’s memories this, memories that. Combat was alright, though I found it a bit difficult at times. Maybe I just sucked?

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Should I feel bad that I kind of chuckled at the irony of your PS3 dying after playing ‘Remember Me’ ? I’ve had my PS3 die a couple of times, but even I have to admit you can’t come up with something like this. It’s gold dark comedy, lol.

        • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

          I remembered it well. =(

    • almostautumn

Picked it up on release; had a really great time with it. In particular was Chapter 2, where you’re climbing around Neo-Paris; just jaw-dropping. Great chapter.
I didn’t mind the gameplay; I know a lot of people think a “Parry” button would have helped but really the dodge I found was fine. The one issue I had is that the combos aren’t really that great; I mean, once you acquire enough of a pressen to fill a combo than there is no better alternative, you know? But the biggest issue I had is that your hits feel so weak; there’s no sense of impact, hardly even a sound, and because of so it’s just not that exciting.

Overall I did like it; I enjoyed the story quite a bit, although I do believe that there’s quite a bit of holes in regards to what Nilin is actually doing to her enemies. I mean, is she “scrambling” them unconcious, or is she literally destroying their concious minds? I also thought the end-boss was downright weak, pretty much as cliche as it gets. Another thing, and this is the only thing I’d say to someone as to not picking it up, is that it’s short. I mean, 14 hours to platinum— that’s not really acceptable when you’re charging $60 for something. I expect a lot more from games, and honestly I’d have rather had less lush environements for that of more gameplay.

    • SolarisSpell

I’m interested in it and probably will buy it sometime. I am not interested in its gameplay (and that’s why still I don’t have it), but I do am interestend in its design and ambience.
I also have the feeling that it will be a very short game, so I’ll buy it when I see it for a price I’ll consider reasonable.

  • Nice Boat

      …. I was also great ^_^

While we wait on the western version the Japanese are planning to open a new area on planet Lilipa on PSO2.

    • shogunknight

I dont think ill ever switch to the english version if it even comes out. It seems the Braver class unlocks all tier 2 classes of the other types for now when you reach lvl30

      • LordKaiser

I haven’t reach level.30 yet with Braver but if it does it may be temporary. There’s still some category of weapons to be added from old Phantasy Star games so a new class may be possible in the future. 1 of those weapons is the boomerang.

And yes almost all the people who registered around March have at least 1 class at Lv.60

      • Bobby Jennings

Yeah, it does. I think it’ll stay like this until a tier 2 class comes out for Braver.

    • Elvick

They’re just killing themselves at this point… they’re so far behind that no one will be waiting by the time it comes out.

They’ll all just settling for the Japanese version and english patch.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they just cancel the localization at this point.

      • Bobby Jennings

This is exactly how it was with PSU. I’m not surprised in the slightest.

      • LordKaiser

Their silence about it won’t help SEGA either. At this point they should make a English installer that is detected by the servers and gives you the English translations of the server stuff and cancel the English version.

In other words, make the Japanese version international. I know it will be a mess but….. at this point….

    • Bobby Jennings

Looking forward to this. Been leveling my Braver Lately.

      • LordKaiser

Same here but with my Dewman with a pure Dex MAG.

  • SolarisSpell

I have just finished watching The Last of Us. It’s been great and I don’t regret not playing it, so I was wondering:
Are there any other games you enjoy watching more than playing? (Or that you know you’ll be bored if you were playing them but watching them is all worth it?)

    • MosquitoLemon

I’m not sure about enjoying one over the other, but I do know it makes no difference whether I’m playing or watching a Final Fantasy game. Same, to an extent, with MGS games.

    • Charlottes Guardian

I really enjoyed watching Red Dead Redemption rather than playing it because of its amazing story, although its an amazing game to play too lol. But yeah I’d say Red Dead.

  • RSene

So, EverQuest Next will be a multiplayer battle only game, or there will be space for someone who enjoys more a story-driven adventure?

  • RSene

“In EQN, NPCs will have specific motivations and preferences that direct behavior in nuanced and unpredictable ways.(…) For example, Orcs may attack opportunistically because they want an adventurer’s gold, not simply because a careless hero wanders into an attack radius”.

    This looks very cool, actualy.

Sorry for being absent in Open Forum recently, between moving and preparing to head out to school, I’m on a bit of an internet blackout (No internet where I’m temporarily residing before school). I’ve been attempting to keep up with articles of course. What’s everyone doing or done for summer thus far?

Thanks. Gaming has been amazing this summer. My newest addiction is Gods Eater Burst. So much content, I’d love to get an ad-hoc party going for it on Gematsu.

    • PrinceHeir

      the hell you’ve been O__O

      • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

I’ve been completing games while I’ve been absent. Platinumed Virtue’s Last Reward. Sadly my funds are tight until school starts. Had to cancel my pre-orders for Dragon’s Crown and Xillia. That was heartbreaking but I’ll pick them up in September.

        • PrinceHeir

          aww such a shame :(

hope you get the Limited Edition of Tales of XIllia!

i’m still waiting for Dragon’s Crown PS3 with artbook as well as Killer is Dead!!

          • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

            I’ll attempt to track the limited edition down but it’s a lot harder to get post release of the game.Same for Dragon’s Crown with the artbook ;-;

            • PrinceHeir

yeah, but the limited edition is just the first press release so you’ll still get it a month or 2.

the artbook is very thin though :(

  • DanijoEX ♬ the Cosmic Owltron

Say…@Zero…how far have you gotten in FE:A? I’m still at Ch.6…for 3 straight months honestly.

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I haven’t gotten very far I hate to say. =(

I’ll keep in mind that chapter 6 is tough?

      • DanijoEX ♬ the Cosmic Owltron

Mostly because of my laziness but part of it is due to the difficulty.

    • Locksus

Depends on what difficulty your playing on. I finished the game on normal/classic, but I find hard/classic much tougher. Needless to say, I’ve done countless soft resets arleady :P It’s best to rely on Frederick, at least in the early levels.

  • PrinceHeir

i’ll post this here since i posted it on the wrong section XD

after watching Ghost in the Shell Movies(Original Version+ 2.0 and Innocence)

i really wish we had games that have subtly way of telling a story.

not even Metal Gear Solid, Deus Ex(as much as i love these games) can even get near the sheer details of Ghost in the Shell without convoluting themselves.

here are my impressions of it as well as differences between Original and 2.0 movie

    MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR SPOILERS SPOILERS

    Ghost in the Shell

    http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=65095&show=40#msg23941133

    Ghost in the Shell 2.0

    Innocence

i also have Arise, i’ll watch it together with Arise 2 this Fall.

shame about the change of voice actors :(

i don’t mind Maaya Sakomoto as Major, but why you gotta replace the other casts :(

Batou is Akio Otsuka FOREVER :P

    • LordKaiser

Did you also watched Stand Alone Complex series?

      • PrinceHeir

        yup last 2011!!

it is my very top anime of ALL time.

only Darker than Black is no.1 anime but either can be my favorite at any time.

even though i prefer Stand Alone Complex, i can see why the director Kenji Kamiyama took notes with Mamoru Oishii’s style in the films

        • LordKaiser

          Ok then you’re updated.

I’m waiting for either a new Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, Ergo proxy or a proper adaptation of Battle Angel Alita. I need my cyberpunk fix.

          • PrinceHeir

have you watched Solid State Society??

there’s alot of references from the two movies there :)

i can tell you if you want.

you haven’t watched Ghost in the Shell ARISE O___O

i actually have the BD, might watched it on december once they released ARISE 2 :P

tbh i was turned off by Appleseed due to being CG only.

i mean after seeing Ghost in the Shell, why won’t you make it 2D animated like that!?!?!

but i’m gonna give it a chance sometime in the future.

            Ergo Proxy is soo amazing!!!

but i think they ended it on a perfect note.

speaking of which i might watched it again due to having the BD’s ^^

            Battle Angel Alita!!

i always wonder what the series is about ever since i saw the mech girl with wings in the cover of volume 1

            definitely needs a proper adaptation!

they also need to adapt other cyber punks by Tsutomu Nihei like Blame! and it’s sequels/prequels as well as Biomega!!

check those out and see some crazy cyberpunk goodness!!!

            • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I really enjoyed Ergo Proxy. I was on one of the teams that subbed it. That’s been years ago though.

As for Gits. I’m sure I’ve said this before on here, but I’m a big fan. Ghost in the Shell is up there in my tops anime list.

I consider Stand Alone Complex S1 damn near perfect. I liked the 2nd gig quite a bit, but I thought S1 was just a bit better.

I know lots of people hated on Solid State Society. I loved it. I remember watching it and wishing more anime had such well written stories.

The story in Gits is just spectacular. I think it’s at its best when everything seems borderline crazy, but then the Major seems to make sense of it all, with a little help from Batou, of course.

It’s also most definitely worth mentioning the music. Anything with Yoko Kanno is fantastic. She is in full effect with Gits music. So great.

              • PrinceHeir

oh so your part of Shinsen subs :P

for me i prefer 2nd GiG, though The Laughing Man arc was definitely the best in the series.

though Gouda is definitely a very unique character :)

i wonder if MGSV Skullface will be similar to him :P

huh?!?! i didn’t know people hated Solid State Society O___O

it’s the best Ghost in the Shell movie ever.

the fact that it even references the first two movies and combines it in one film is pure genius!!!

tbh it didn’t confuse me unlike MGS.

it’s actually easy to follow the series as long as you pay attention.

there’s no convoluted scenarios or anything.

everything is explained in a detail and coherent way.

and yes Yoko Kanno is godly!

i want more of her music!!

speaking of which, she compose Sakamichi no Apollon!!

so i better watch that as well!

                • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I used to be heavily involved with SHS and a few other sub groups. Lots of fansubbers did a variety of work for multiple groups. The internal community was usually friendly, other times, not so much. lol

I haven’t had much time to watch anime these days. I need to set aside some of my free gaming time and marathon some anime instead. It’s though, I just like playing video games so much! lol. My backlog of games doesn’t help either. xD

I’m optimistic about Gits Arise. I would have preferred Gits Sac S3 though.

                  • PrinceHeir

                    cool!

you need to watch tons of anime!

i’ve only started coming back from games after the release of Dragon’s Crown :)

same! i still have tons of backlogs to go through, i probably won’t buy a next gen console for a year or two now :P

for me i’m just excited we have a new Ghost in the Shell after Solid State Society!!

and yes i would have prefer a 3rd GiG but i’ll give Arise a chance :)

you should reply to me on the new open forum since this will be close soon XD

            • LordKaiser

Well the thing with battle Angel Alita is that the author don’t decide on what to do with it. It sounds like he wants to reboot the manga yet again. Last order is a parallel story that continues from Volume 9 of the 1rst manga series. It’s a mess!

From Biomega I have 1 volume with me that I bought when Borders was shutting down together with Ikigami and curiously they’re both volume 4 the number of death.

              • PrinceHeir

                so it’s a what if sequel? :

i see in the myanimelist it’s up to volume 9 then Last Order is a sequel?

the US actually manage to get all Volume 6 translated!

it’s on amazon US right now! gonna buy it soon!

                • LordKaiser

It pick ups in the middle of Volume #9 but it diverges from it’s ending. It seems that Yukito was not satisfied with the ending and created Last Order to extend it.

Confused yet? I will try to find out where last Order reached up to in JP.

                  *Edit*

It’s still on hiatus thanks to the Shueisha Jump editor for being an ass.

    • Nice Boat

I tried reading the manga but there was too much “PLOT”

      • PrinceHeir

        what kind of “PLOT” though?

the too much information “PLOT” or the bouncy “PLOT” :P

        • Nice Boat

Latter. I will try the film instead.

          • PrinceHeir

the manga is VERY different from the film.

i would say the film is it’s own story using the characters and universe of the manga :)

the manga isn’t even philosophical compared to the films

      • z_merquise

Masamune Shirow just loves to draw sexy women.

    • z_merquise

Maaya Sakamoto? I always imagine Motoko Kusanagi with a deep yet womanly voice like Atsuko Tanaka so it kind of suprising.

Too bad no Akio Otsuka. Well at least he’s The Skull Knight in Berserk and that s already awesome for me.

      • PrinceHeir

        this is a prequel though.

and Maaya Sakomoto did voiced Major when she was young in the film so she has some experience :P

yeah no Akio is a shame :(

Snake and Batou will always be Akio :)

is that the new golden arc movies? i need to watch those asap!

  • SolarisSpell

Does anyone know if Skullgirls has Story Mode?
I’m kinda interested and might get it.

    • Kobracon

It very much does have a story mode. Not as extensive as Mortal Kombat 9, but more like a short visual novel. Think like a really tiny version of P4A, definitely not as long as that, but similar in style. The stories are short and ok. Nothing too engrossing, sadly.

      • SolarisSpell

Thanks Kobracon. To me it’s a pity, but it seems is common in fighting games. Thanks again for the info.

  • Guest

Gamestop still don’t have my Xillia and Dragon’s Crown…. -_-; Delayed as always.

  • McPoo

Just finished Spec Ops: The Line off PS+.

What a brilliant story, seriously up there with some of my favourite of this gen. Gameplay was enjoyable too, if nothing spectacular. Was definitely solid though.

What did everyone else think? Makes going back to Remember Me feel like a step down >_<

    • Azuardo

Yeah, I quite enjoyed it, too. I made sure to replay the final part for the different endings. I don’t think I could get my head around exactly what had happened at first, but some of the themes were quite heavy, I thought.

      • McPoo

Yeah the story is surprisngly confusing at times actually.

I didn’t realise there were different endings until I looked at a wiki, there’s quite a few different ways it can finish which is cool.

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

For those interested in reading a non-spoiler review for Killer is Dead, I just finished it this morning. I’ll list some pros and cons for the game. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them. Please try to keep the questions spoiler free though since some people are still waiting on the NA release. Thanks!

    Pros
    ——-

    +Great soundtrack by Akira Yamaoka
+Original story, albeit pretty out there, but nevertheless… Original and interesting in its own way

+Fluid gameplay. The action is quite fast and while the system looks
rather basic on the surface, it offers some complexity and depth the
further you progress in the game

+Interesting graphics. By “intreresting” I mean they took a direction
with the graphics that isn’t seen often and it works really well. The
art direction can be a little too odd for some people, but I believe it
    added to its appeal

    Cons
    ——–

    -Too short. I beat
the game in less than 14 hours and the only reason I even took that
long on it was because I did submissions as well
    -Bad camera angles.
Sometimes the camera can get a little annoying. Now, this isn’t to say
it will hinder you from playing the game properly or enjoying it, but
it’s kind of like a fly. It’s an annoyance if anything.
    -Finisher
system. Whenever you deplete all of the health on a boss, you will be
asked to push R1 while near the enemy to perform a finisher. Now, this
would be all well and good if you could push R1 from any position around
the enemy, but you can’t. It doesn’t give you any clear indication of
where you need to be standing when pushing R1, so sometimes you are left
randomly pushing it when standing in different places around the enemy
just so you can finish the boss fight. I found this to be a little
    bothersome to be perfectly honest
-JP dub with bad lip syncing. This
is more of a personal con than anything, really. I just found that
while playing with the JP dub, the mouths will continue to move when
they have finished speaking and/or stop too early a lot of the time. GHM
games have always synced the lips with the EN dub for as long as I can
remember, but I just wish it was a little more accurate along with the
    subtitles, that’s all

    Summary
    ————–

    Overall,
    I’d give the game a 7.5 out of 10. I don’t feel quite comfortable
giving it an 8 due to the length of the game and the replay value being
reduced to simply playing the same stages over and over again on
different difficulties, but I will say that Killer is Dead will
certainly leave an impression one way or another. It may blow you away
in some parts of the game while other times you’ll be wondering why you
spent so much on a game that will probably only kill your boredom for a
few days as it did with me, but… The time that you do spend with the
game and the shortlived experience you have with it will be one to
    remember.

Oh and if you’re wanting an idea of about how long it will take you to beat, I’m posting my results screen too. It doesn’t contain any spoilers in it, really. I’m just posting it to give you guys a ballpark estimate of how much time you will invest in it on the first playthrough if it was on Normal like myself. Granted, I did all of the sub missions as well, so you can probably knock an hour or two off there.

    Attention Android users:

You need to all go and download the game “S.M.T.H”, or Send me to Heaven. It’s a new free Android game that’s absolutely crammed with content and anyone can play. Definitely worth a look! :)

    • new_tradition

      lol, I believed you ;A;

  • https://twitter.com/Panda_castro Panda

Got Dragon’s crown. There was only 4 art books available at the game stop I pre oder from. I was the first guy to get one.

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Sal, you might want to look into this. It was something I read about recently and thought about this site. In short, it seems there’s a new attack going around that can take sensitive information from a website in a matter of seconds by cloaking itself.

It might be a good idea to see if you’re protected against something like this. Well, as good as you can be anyway. I’m sure you have protection, but I still figured I’d toss this your way in case it can help in some way.

I just noticed this weeks open forum broke 300 + comments. Awesome! Thanks for posting!

I’ll share something special here to help celebrate. I’m going to post a bit of an update on my ongoing community focused projects.

The first of hopefully many Gematsu contests will go live today or tomorrow.

This is something I’ve been planning for most of the year. It’s part of my on going goal to try and make Gematsu better. I want to try and offer things other websites typically don’t. We did just that with our live comment blogs during e3. They proved to be pretty successful. We will most likely try and do this again for upcoming gaming events that will be live streamed. =)

As for the upcoming contests. I have a few different ideas. One of the things I’m focusing on is offering good rewards for winners. I want the grand prize to be something special. I think the grand prize for our first contest is going to set the bar sorta high. I’m also considering a giveaway of sorts.

I will likely be asking you all about possible reward ideas in the future.

If you are planning to play Final Fantasy XIV : A Real Reborn. I suggest you check back pretty soon. =)

I also have some plans for the upcoming release of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix. ^^

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I think just making Gematsu a better place overall would be a good enough prize :3

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Thanks. I like the idea of giving back to the community though.

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I know, haha. I read the post and I think it’s a good idea. I guess it just sort of felt like a ‘Christmas moment’ :P

Still, I look forward to seeing what you have planned, Zero.

          • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

The contest will be up tomorrow. :)

    • McPoo

Is there a place where we can suggest things for the site?

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Well, you can always contact Sal via email. Or, if you like, you can contact me and I’ll make sure the staff gets whatever suggestions you might have.

Another idea is to simply post suggestions here. Where everyone can discuss them.

        • McPoo

I’d like more opinion pieces from the writers, particularly Adam (cos me and him used to share a bed and have a special bond).

The site is great for up to date news (even if it is a little centered on the Eastern side for my tastes. I understand that’s the sites direction though), but there just isn’t much in the way of non-news pieces.

I quite like the discussionists, and the opinion pieces, it’d just be nice to have more of them :)

          • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

That’s always something we would like more of. (Community focused non-news pieces.)

I had plans this year to try and do more with articles like that. Unfortunately, my lack of time has put those ideas on indefinite hold.

You can find this on the about link at the bottom of the main page. http://gematsu.com/about/

You’re gamers. We understand you may want to vent on a certain subject, perform an in-depth analysis on a certain game, or give Square Enix

good reason to remake Final Fantasy VII. If you’ve put together a lengthy piece and you want it to be heard, send us an e-mail using the contact information below.

If you want to write up a piece, go for it. You can submit it to me or Sal. We have done guest posts before. It’s something I would love to see more of. Interesting pieces written by community members.

            – – – – – – – – – – – –

One of my ideas was to write up interesting pieces that featured my own writing, but also featured community written sections.

For example. One idea I had involved using video games to help deal with real life problems. I was going to try and write about a few of my experiences on this, but also reach out to community members on the open forum.

They would have contacted me via email with their personal stories. Which I would have then placed into the final article.

It was something… rather… is still something I would like to work on again … someday. It’s a project that requires more free time and dedication than I currently can give.

            • McPoo

See that’d be a fascinating read, and something pretty unique to the site. It’d be great to see more of a balance between news and other articles, although I realise that with just the two or three people working on it, that’s not really a reality. I suppose as it is it makes the odd different article a lot more appreciated.

On a sidè note, I gave up on Remember Me >_> Got to chapter 3 where the focus shifted towards more combat, and the already tedious combat mixed with a proper bad camera in tight spaces just put me right off. Shame, as its dead pretty when you’re clambering around, it’s just no fun to play.

              • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Well, that’s a shame. I still plan to give it a shot on steam someday. When the price is right.

Like I posted. If you think you have the time to type up something, that would be pretty cool. I know that it isn’t so easy to do.

With my ideas, I want to do them right. I suppose I demand a certain level of quality from it. It’s different from just posting a comment.

I haven’t quite given up on the idea. I’ll keep trying to find more free time to invest into it.

    • Pyrofrost

      Zero, I love you~ <3

        Thanks. =)

(Contest should go live pretty soon.)

  • new_tradition

Project Diva F demo is on the NA PSN store now. I got my Xillia CE today from the post office (and holy crap, the box to deliver it was at least 3 times as big, wtf xD), but I want to try the demo first before I start Xillia :3

(I don’t think I’ll finish Xillia in time for FFXIV Open Beta, so I can already feel my backlog get longer, lol ;A;)

EDIT: Just gave the demo a first try on Easy, and whoa, I’m absolutely terrible, lol. Sorry Miku-chan! I’ll make you smile another time, promise!

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Ah, that’s right. I forgot about that. Well, if you’re curious as to what to expect when it comes to Extreme difficulty, I’ve got all the songs uploaded from the JP version of the PS3 release:

      • new_tradition

        O_O

Oh hey, maybe you can tell me. When I was trying the demo, there were stars on the screen, but I have no idea what I was suppose to press. I recognize the standard PS buttons that show up after, but stars? I don’t get it :/

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

The stars are flick note. Basically, just flick your left or right analog sticks in a direction and voila. It doesn’t matter which direction, it will count. Although, I found it to be best if I just flicked both of them up, one after the other.

These notes are VERY lenient though. Not even kidding. You can just keep flicking your analog sticks while the notes pop up in a sequence and you’ll hit every one of them, even with your eyes closed, lol. Just go:

Flick flick flick flick flick flick flick

It doesn’t matter if it’s on key, it will still count. I remember that’s how I used to hit the long string of notes anyway. I didn’t even bother with accuracy since it doesn’t have the same grading as the face buttons does, so it’s very rare you’d actually get a ‘bad’ or something on a flick note.

          Anyway, hope this helps!

          • new_tradition

It does, thank you! I’ll try the demo again when I’m back from my work trip ^^

  • bldudas

I’m playing Tales of Xillia, Milla’s story. People have finished one story so far? I haven’t even finished chapter one. lol
