Plus, producer and director Naoki Yoshida shares upcoming incentives.

Square Enix has announced the open beta test and early access dates for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

The open beta test will run from August 17 to 19 for both PlayStation 3 and PC.

Consumers who pre-ordered the game will receive early access to the MMORPG on August 24.

During a “Letter from the Producer Live” today, producer and director Naoki Yoshida shared some upcoming incentives for the game:

  • Veteran Rewards – Enjoy various bonuses based on how long you have been a Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn subscriber (30, 60, and 90 days). By starting with a 90-day subscription, players receive all 30-day, 60-day, and 90-day bonuses at once.
  • Companion iOS App – A free companion app, “Final Fantasy XIV: Libra Eorzea,” planned to arrive a week after launch
  • Welcome Back Campaign – Players who registered Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 can play Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn for free until Monday, September 9.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is due out for PlayStation 3 and PC on August 27 at $39.99 and $29.99, respectively. A free 30-day trial is included with new accounts, and monthly subscriptions start at $12.99.

Let me get this straight, you have to buy the game then pay a monthly subscription to play? Is it worth it?

    • Pyrofrost

I would personally say it is. I will be doing so. ^_^
I personally prefer P2P MMOs over F2P and B2P MMOs. In fact, I actually refuse to play the latter two at all.

      • TetsuyaHikari

The latter generally get you with a microtransaction/cash shop system, so you’d end up dumping more money into that just to keep up than you would had you just paid a subscription fee.

        • Pyrofrost

Pretty much, not to mention the F2P and B2P gamer communities are effing garbage.
I’m happy paying a premium for ‘all-around’ better quality.
As far as the P2P nay-sayers go, I’m happy I won’t have to deal with their kind for much longer.

          • TetsuyaHikari

Yeah… I have a friend that dumped $200 in a week on Tera just because people wouldn’t party with him since he didn’t have high enough gear or some shit. It’s ridiculous, really. I’m much more comfortable with a P2P system. I’m still curious how phase 3 players will be able to download the phase 4 client though.

I was on PS3 for phase 3, but I have yet to receive an e-mail for phase 4 :/

            • Pyrofrost

I’m not exactly sure about when new codes are going out; but Yoshida did state that all Closed Beta participants are not only automatically in Phase 4; they will also be allowed to start on the 16th, one day earlier than ‘new’ participants.

And I completely agree with you about the P2P system. I’m so glad this is a 100% self-funded project by SE; so they won’t have investors beating on their door with their hands out. SE can afford to keep this game P2P, since they are not in need of a quick return.

              • MogCakes

Didn’t know it was self-funded. Hooray for freedom from investors!

    • SuperLuigi

Ya that’s how most MMOs work. This is one is a blast though from what I played in the beta.

  • gerald

I was never very intrigued by MMOs but the latest builds I’ve seen look really good. I’m saving it for PS4 so hopefully I’ll be getting a nice polished version.

  • Panda

Hopefully 3 days is enough time for me to try all the classes I haven’t play as yet.

    • Pyrofrost

I have played everything, including disciples of land and hand; all except for Arcanist and Fishing (which will be available for P4). My whole problem is that I love everything so much, I can decide what want to main first. xD

  • new_tradition

I might not be able to play much during Phase 4 since it’s likely I’ll be working out of town, but even a few hours to play this again is really hyping me up =D

  • artemisthemp

I really hope Square Enix is giving Android user a Companion app.

    • Pyrofrost

Not to worry, Yoshida has confirmed that it will be available on iOS & Android.

      • artemisthemp

Awesome of Sony President to announce that or is that another Yoshida?

        • Pyrofrost

Yoshida (the director and producer of FFXIV), though the android version is coming at a later date than the iOS version, there will be one.

          • artemisthemp

            Ah Naoki Yoshida

  • MrKappa

3 days is not gonna leave me a lot of time to play with Sat and Mon being big time eater days for me :/

A special Gematsu Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn contest will go live tomorrow. Be sure to check it out. =)

    • Pyrofrost

I love seeing the amount of love given to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on Gematsu, I really mean it.

It’s like this is one of the few sites that actually appreciates all the work Yoshida has done. You guys are looking forward with high hopes for this game, like myself; and not constantly reflecting on what it was, and second guessing this like other internet gaming sites.

It’s positive places like this that will be seeing to Final Fantasy XIV:
      A Realm Reborn’s success.

      • Zero

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words.

I can only hope that what is going on here at Gematsu can help lead to a successful Final Fantasy XIV re-launch.

You already know this, but I personally care quite a bit about the game. I’ve invested a lot into it ever since it launched as version 1.0.

I have always believed in Yoshi-P. Not only is he the right man for the job, I think he is one of the most talent people working at Square-Enix.

Anyways, I sure hope the contest takes off and becomes big. That means more work for me, but I don’t mind. I hope it will be good for Gematsu, good for the community, and good for FFXIV.

  • Luna Kazemaru

Lol the forums are a figgin QQ fest

    • Zero

Seems like people are raging over the casual stuff in the game,

      • Luna Kazemaru

even tho there will be hard/extreme modes lol but they are acting like beta was pose to carry them to 50

        • Zero

Yeah. I already know how challenging some of the content can be from playing version 1.0.

I hope some people can relax and see through the rage.

Me when I read the beta forums

      • Pyrofrost

        Bleh, my gif isn’t gifing ;_;

  • Kita

YES!! Its on the weekend. :)

  • jesse gonzales

You need a subscription to play this?

    • Kita

Yeah, apparently… I didn’t know that either until today. :/ I am new to the MMO universe.

  • Karl Josef

    monthly subscription :(

  • Wija

I’m so glad to see more positive feedback about this game. This is going to be my first p2p MMO, and I was happy about the beta test, so I ended up preordering. Hehe~
I will most likely just get 90 days so I get EVERYTHING. LOL

  • Sketp3k

Wow a $12.99 monthly subscription is steep, the game better be amazing to warrant the cost.

    • Kari

But you can have 8-40 Characters per account. so share it with some family members.

    • Jonathan Lee

No, its not. At all. Play WoW at all? ESO is going to cost even more with $15 a month. If you want a good game with content, it has to be sub based.
