Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is now available worldwide on PlayStation 3 and PC. The game costs $39.99 and $29.99, respectively, with monthly subscription fees starting at $12.99.

The ‘reborn’ MMORPG is set five years after the realm of Eorzea was ravaged by the unleashing of the Bahamut in the original release of Final Fantasy XIV.

“We are extremely proud of all the work and effort spent creating Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, and I hope that both new and old players enjoy this Final Fantasy experience,” producer and director Naoki Yoshida said in a press release.

“We look forward to supporting this title for many years to come, always listening to the community and delivering rich content updates and new stories that our fans deserve.”

Square Enix outlined the game’s key features below:

  • All the hallmarks of the Final Fantasy franchise, including genre-leading graphics and real-time cut scenes, beautiful music, and an immersive story experience
  • Band together with your friends to create guild-like “Free Companies” to take on the game’s story-driven adventures
  • High level detail and quality of graphics on both the PlayStation®3 system and Windows PC through the new graphics engine
  • Flexible class system that allows players to change to any of the 19 different classes on the fly by simply changing their equipped weapon or tool. Players can also unlock 9 different jobs as they advance in level.
  • New takes on classic Final Fantasy elements like the “Materia” and “Limit Break” systems that originally appeared in Final Fantasy VII
  • Varied options available for leveling and growing the player’s character − including class quests, main story quests, quick-action “Guildleves and Guildhests” that act as events players can tackle alone or with friends, and exciting “Instanced Dungeons” to raid in search of vast treasures
  • Full Active Time Events (FATEs) − unique events that allow for dynamic open world battles and adventures with other players
  • Personal companion chocobos for players to ride and fight alongside in battle

A free companion app, Final Fantasy XIV: LIbra Eorzea, will soon be available on the iOS App Store and later on the Android Marketplace. It will allow users to view their created characters, see their friends’ information, and access databases with in-game items, quests, achievements, NPCs, and more.

Final Fantasy XIV will also be available on PlayStation 4 in 2014.

Here’s hoping that people can actually play it. :)

  • Azuardo

So jealous. Want to be on it right now but likely gonna have to wait till I can afford it! But congratulations to the team on getting this game finished and out there. It seems like it’s been worth the wait.

  • RyoonZ

Not really worldwide since you can’t play it with Asian PSN account :(

  • Zuhri69

Server is too slow at the moment. Hopefully tomorrow will be a bit better.

    “Starting at”?

      • DreamDrop♥

        What does that even mean?

        • Matthew Frassetti

It means that there is a subscription fee at 12.99 for the base model, which is one character per server. If you wish to create multiple characters per server you must pay more, but because one character can be every class, you don’t necessarily need more than one.

Source: I play the game :)

I’m in! Playing on Shiva. Got to LV20 on Pugilist and Leatherworker during the beta (Phase 4). Gonna continue with the same character. Name’s Kyra Vael’shyr if anyone wants to team up.

  • kuroyume

“Available”. Chances are if you buy this game you will not be able to log in and will end up wasting part of the free game time that comes with the purchase.

  • Budgiecat

What a mess. I and many others couldn’t even play the game after buying it. The registration code wasnt even working! I ended up using a free beta code off the S-E site which is good for 30 days or so. So now it’s like.why did I even buy the game if it doesn’t work lol I’m playing free now for a month anyway….ugh

  • Panda

Hopefully everyone has fun with this game. I’m waiting for the PS4 version.

That launch trailer was pretty awesome!

    Moving on –

I know they have had some issues with the servers. I don’t think its fair to act like this is exclusive to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Every MMORPG has bumpy launches like this. In fact, most everyone should expect some rough patches at launch.

It does suck when you can’t log in. I’ve only been able to play the game for a few hours myself. Mostly due to my work schedule. I just keep trying until they finally place me in a server queue. I got to play for about 20 minutes last night. While it is frustrating, I know things will improve. I’m also on Hyperion, which is one of the busiest worlds.

Let’s look at it on the positive side of things. All of these people trying to log in and play is a good thing. It means a large amount of people are excited and want to play. This will hopefully result in a solid subscriber base. Which is very crucial for the games future, for the PS4 and beyond.

A bumpy start indeed, but being happy to actually get in and start playing has to say something about the game. Sadly I’m having some serious lag issues which don’t make sense to me. I know my net isn’t the best but when I played the beta, it was perfectly playable.

Now, character’s constantly freeze while waiting for the data to go through, and then all the actions happen at once. Its like I’m playing a game where Dio stops time and resumes frequently.

My net on my desktop is perfectly fine and fast though, so really unsure if its my PS3 or the fact that Hyperion is really busy, or its the first day. I have yet to try other servers to test my theory.

IGN is Korina Brastra on Hyperion btw. Just call me Kobra ;)

I’ll do my best to add you when I get online. I’m not sure if you can friend someone when they are offline. Probably not.

      • Kobracon

Being different timezones, it may be hard to match XD

I’ll tell you when I get back from work and get online, see if you’re online then. Want me to do it here or email you?

        • Zero

I’ll probably be at work as well. =P

You can just send me a reply here if you like. We will get it figured out one way or another.

          • Kobracon

            Roger that

          • Kobracon

I’m about to go online, Zero. Updating currently. Small update.

    • Pyrofrost

I’m on Hyperion as well, and you’re welcome to send me an add. I’m afk, but my character is online and parked in Costa del Sol. I will accept when I get back. My characters name is Rutee Katrea

  • new_tradition

PS3 user here. Got me CE today. Cover art is gorgeous. That Blu-ray explaining the events of 1.0 was pretty interesting to boot.

I’ve luckily managed to play on the EU Shiva server without issue (my faith in Shiva got me through Phase 3 and Open Beta; I should’ve known she’d take care of me at launch, lol), but ideally I’d like to main my NA Lamia one (last thing I did was log off at the inn, so I’m expecing some decent rest bonus when I finally do manage to log on, lol).

It’s a little funny, I made the same character on both the NA and EU server: an elezen female conjurer named Eldeen Modestine. The only main difference is the EU one is a Wildwood and the other is Duskwight xD

Anyways, enjoying it quite a bit. Stillsoloing, but I want to do as much as I can on my own before partying up with experienced players. There really is a lot to do if you don’t want to focus on the story quests absolutely O.O

I do see myself evolving into a White Mage after exhausting Conjurer, but we’ll see how it goes…

…I’m gonna go back and play now :3

EDIT: Hmmm, I guess timing will be an issue with servers. I live in the EST time zone, so during the day, the NA server is accessible, where as the EU server isn’t, but when it’s night, it’s the other way around. I guess it worked out making two characters right. Kind of wonder if I should make a back up one on a JPN server…

If the reviews are good this may not wait til the PS4 version.

    • Zero

I think it’s a blast. I’m expecting some very positive reviews, but I would really suggest giving it a try either way.

      • Bryce Blalex Douglas

I might have to if I can come up with the funds I have the new Pokemon and Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD to buy and saving up for a PS4 launch day hopefully.

One question though: I went to the website to look at subs and it said the Entry 30 day sub is 12.99 then a Standard 180 day sub is 12.99 so does that mean you have to pay for the 30 day Entry before you can upgrade to a Standard sub? Because if so that’s not too bad seeing as the first 30 days is free too. Only $26 for a whole year at those prices.

        • Zero

I’m honestly not 100% sure about that. I highly doubt it’s only $26 for a year haha. That would be nice, eh?

I might be wrong, but I think what that’s showing is $12.99 x 6. 180 days is like 6 months. Basically, if you pay up front for 6 months they charge $12.99 for each month.

I think the first month is $12.99 for everyone but legacy players. After that, it raises to $14.99 if you pick the 30 days choice, or $13.99 if you pick the 90 days option.

I’ve heard rumblings that the cost goes down the longer you stay subscribed. Once again, I’m not 100% sure on this. I’m pretty sure that is correct.

Remember! If you do buy it, the first 30 days are free.

          • Bryce Blalex Douglas

Yeah I’m new to sub based MMO’s so I was completely lost lol. That makes more sense because I was like sheesh that’s too great of a deal.

  • SolarisSpell

For those who know the game, how accesible is it for solo players?
I don’t usually have much time nor do I play in groups, so I normally can’t play MMOs.

I did polay GuildWars2 as it allowed me to play from beggining to end by myself within a reasonable time (to me at least it was reasoneable).
So, do you know if I could play this game? and would I be able to experience much of its content or only fool around?

    • Zero

I’d say they have made it very solo friendly. You can do lots of quests for experience solo. You can also do guildleves solo which balance the difficulty accordingly. Just to name a few things.

The FATE events in the game are very similar to Guild Wars 2’s Dynamic event system. You don’t have to build a party or anything to take part in them.

In other words, I think it’s very accessible for solo players.

      • SolarisSpell

        Thank you Zero

        • Zero

You’re quite welcome. I would have gone into more detail if I had the time. ^^

  • Kobracon

Jeezus H Christ! I am getting UNPLAYABLE levels of lag here…..

  • Ronaconda

Been playing like the dickens, whenever I can due to those error codes and loads of people, but that’s a MMO launch for ya. Reeeaaal close to Dragoon, I can taste it.
