A few updates on Project Phoenix

PlayStation 4 version to be retail-only.

Creative Intelligence Arts has provided a few updates on its upcoming Project Phoenix via Twitter and Kickstarter

  • The team is hard at work trying to secure PlayStation 4 and PS Vita versions of the game. It is currently “90%” likely to release and almost finalized.
  • A PlayStation 4 version of the game would be retail-only, but a downloadable version is also possible.
  • There won’t be a backer option to receive the PlayStation versions. This is because the PlayStation 4 version has a different publisher.
  • There are “no plans” to bring the game to Wii U.
  • The game will have dual audio in English and Japanese.
  • The strategy is more similar to Starcraft than it is to Valkyria Chronicles, “but different.”
  • There are two modes of play. Online play requires an internet connection, login ID, and password, and will provide access to the following services: claiming Kickstarter reward items, online profiles, achievements, save game access on any machine, updates and bug fixes, and multiplayer (if stretch goal is reached). Offline play does not require an internet connection and will save data locally on the computer.

Project Phoenix has currently earned over $336,000 of its initial $100,000 goal on Kickstarter, and has 28 days left until its crowd funding ends.

      Dammit, lol.

Donna Burke is involved. If she does anything involved with the English track, I won’t be turning it off.

    • Mar Mar

No one can stop them from implementing that!

    • bloodiOS

Keep up the support and eventually there will be a stretch goal (beyond $1.65M) to have voice acting for the entire game, not just for cutscenes and events.

  • shogunknight

Nice, this would be great. Quite unfortunate about wiiU though

  • PhoenixAutomatic~♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪~

Wooooo!!!! Yes Im soo excited i don’t give a damn about downloading the game! Retail FTW!!

  • DesmaX

Retail-Only is a dick move. Especially for these games, that would get off the market after a few months

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

No. You refusing to purchase something, despite wanting it, would be a dick move. I’m sure there will be plenty of copies to go around.

      • DesmaX

I never said I wasn’t going to buy this.

But, who knows? Maybe someone else some years after release find this on the website, want to buy but he can’t find copies anywhere. Having it Digital would make this a lot easier.

Hell, I know people who rather have digital games over retail ones

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Ummm… If you’re not going to buy it, then how does this affect you? Digital games last as long as there is a server, a working HDD, and an internet connection you can use to download them.

          Physical/retail copies are forever.

          • DesmaX

            ???
I want to buy this, and I’ll pick it retail probably, like I do with my PS3 games.

            • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I don’t even… Then what the hell are you complaining about? Lol.

              • DesmaX

                … Why are you complaining?

This does not affect only me. I’m giving my opinion on this.

                • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

                  I’m not complaining ._.

I was just trying to figure out why this is a big deal for you, only to find out that you’re probably going to buy it anyway, sooooo… What was the point of complaining about it then? Also, obviously it doesn’t only affect you (duh?), but just as you stated:

“Hell, I know people who rather have digital games over retail ones”

                  I can also say:

Hell, I know people who rather have retail games over digital ones.

Do yourself a favor and scroll up, and check the upvotes on GetOffMy_Lawn’s post. There are probably more people that would want a physical copy. I know, I know… It sounds crazy, but stay with me!

Get this. *whispers* Some people don’t have an internet connection… Nor do they want to wait for the game to download so they can play it.

Now you can’t tell anybody I told you that! It’s a secret, okay?

                  • DesmaX

Seriously, all I want is to have the option of buying these games whoever I want. Who knows, maybe I’ll want to buy this digitally when it’s released.

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

The Wii U gamers have a reason to complain, you’re just being nit-picky. Just enjoy what you’re getting, man, and stop acting so spoiled. Sheesh.

                    • DesmaX

C’mon, even if I did something wrong, you just jumped out of nowhere and started attacking me for no reason.

You should stop acting so agressively

                    • DesmaX

Oh, it didn’t upload as gif…

                      Oh well

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Yep, all sorts of aggression up in here. Haha, okay. Whatever, man. Think what you want. I’m done.

                    • MosquitoLemon

Uh, as someone who at the very least respects your taste in games, you should know that you come off as mad aggressive for seemingly no reason sometimes. And this goes back like, years to when you did Kotaku.

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

                      >mad aggressive
                      >when you did Kotaku

                      Lol no, on both accounts. I have NEVER been a part of that cesspool. Geez. You want to talk about being mad aggressive, that was a hell of an insult, implying that I’ve ever been a part of Kotaku ;w;

I’ve only been a part of:

                      Andriasang, Siliconera, and here

Well, as far as gaming news sites go. I mainly stopped going to Siliconera because of one of the heavily opinionated editors. He used to always butt heads with me, acting very unprofessional. I’ve been an editor for a gaming site before and wrote nearly 400 articles in the course of three months, and how he was behaving towards me is NOT the way a professional is supposed to behave.

You don’t ever see Sal starting shit with people around here, just because his opinion may differ from that person’s, do you? No. Anyway, that’s neither here nor there. I really wish people would stop being so quick to bring out the pitchforks and torches every time I disagree with someone about something on here though.

                      It’s getting old, guys.

                    • MosquitoLemon

There’s a difference in having different opinions (which is totally cool), and acting like a spoiled jerk about it. Like I’m sure that’s not what you’re trying to do, but it almost always sounds that way.

Also super sorry about the Kotaku thing, someone with the same name and same taste in games was on there like 5 years ago (I had him as a friend because it was like, oh look, the only other person that likes Japanese games).

                    • http://twitter.com/AuroraXIII AuroraXIII

I do agree with the mad aggressive impression of him, haha.

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I can assure you, there is no hostility in my posts on here. It takes a lot to actually piss me off or get me mad and that usually doesn’t happen unless it’s worth getting mad over, like an argument with a friend. While I would like to think that some of the users around here are friends, I don’t know them on a personal level like I do with others, so some of my statements may be misconceived due to a lack of tone being present here.

People that don’t know me give me the same kind of crap when I talk to them sometimes too. For example, a family member of mine happened to be nearby while I was shopping since she came along to pick up something as well and when I asked this guy in the checkout line, “What’s with you?”, he got upset at me. He just seemed to be worried about something because he kept looking in his wallet, then looked around a few times.

So yeah, my family member basically told me, “Why did you say that to him?” and I’m like, “What? He was acting weird.” and apparently… It was because of HOW I said the question, that’s why he got upset. I guess it’s kind of how whenever someone says, “Good morning” to me, I reply back with “Hey” instead and they think something is wrong, usually.

I’ve just never cared for using the greeting “Good morning”, personally, but because of that… People think there’s something bothering me if I don’t reply back the way they expect/want me to. A lot of people always seem to get the wrong impression of me because I’m honest about what I think, rather than pandering to socially acceptable responses which make others feel better, even though you generally aren’t even being sincere unless they’re a close friend anyway.

I guess you could say I’m like a Vulcan (Star Trek fans will get it, lol). I don’t really like my emotions getting in the way, so 99% of my statements or responses will be based on my thoughts, not how I’m feeling. I could be having a good day, a bad day, or indifferent. I’ll still express what I think, regardless of how I’m feeling, so I wish people would stop acting like my thoughts are proverbial knives driving into their hearts and backs every time I speak my mind.

It’s especially distasteful when I’m cast aside like an outsider while someone else is able to prattle on as others conform with this person against me or defend the individual(s) from the sidelines, creating a double-standard.

Please bear in mind… Your freedom stops where mine begins, people.

I’m just being silly. He knows it, he’ll say something silly back, and then we’ll all have a laugh about it.

                    • bloodiOS

Yeah, I think it would be a better idea to do that.

I’m sure that he don’t mind if there’s a physical copy of the game so only you 1rst paragraph is relevant.

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

                      Haha, okay.

      • LordKaiser

You accidentally created a fallacy as you misunderstood (Probably). I know you hate large digital games as much as I do but he’s one of those digital preference people.

You assumed that he was not going to buy the game at retail because he prefer digital but it’s not true.

Now to the other people here that won’t buy the retail for not being digital you are doing a stupid thing. (I had never met a person like this yet.)

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Er… I only “assumed” because I took what he gave me to work with. It’s not my fault he didn’t fill in the blanks. I was forced to do so, so if I’m “wrong”, then it was his fault X3

Either way, he can buy or not buy, lol. I don’t care. I’m interested in the game and honestly? That’s all that matters.

          • LordKaiser

Don’t worry it’s he’s fault as well for not reading all the article and jumping the gun. If he saw that then he over dramatized.

    • bloodiOS

At least the Vita version will also be available digitally…

    • LordKaiser

“A PlayStation 4 version of the game would be retail-only, but a downloadable version is also possible.”

It says that it may be possible. You forgot to read this line!

      • DesmaX

But it should be considered from the beginning

        • LordKaiser

They must have a reason. Maybe they don’t understand how the PSN store will work with the PS4 or something. It could be anything really.

          • DesmaX

Well, if every Indie knows how to release it there, it shouldn’t be a problem. Sony should give them the help they need.

Especially since they want to release it at retail, which is way harder to do

            • LordKaiser

A unknown reason they may have. What it is IDK but it could be anything. Maybe they are new to the online market and don’t wabt to take the risk yet or don’t want to pay the fee to upload it to the PSN yet.

              • DesmaX

heh, guess I’ll just ask them directly. There’s a button to ask a question there

And, anyway, releasing it at retail is harder in every way. Without the Digital Saes you woudn’t have this Indie Games industry nowadays

              • bloodiOS

But going physical also means that they will need a publisher for that, wouldn’t that cost something, too?

                • DesmaX

And the shops selling the games also takes some of the money too, anyway

                • LordKaiser

I don’t know how much Sony will charge to upload a PS4 gameto the PSN so I have no idea.

Also I think that if they go digital, they’ll use that same publisher so it won’t make a difference.

                  • DesmaX

                    You can self-publish on PSN

                    • LordKaiser

Maybe they haven’t decided yet. Hell maybe they are still thinking what to do. Who knows if they decide to put it on PSN just in time for the release date.

  • http://Xcite79.1up.com/ Keegs79

Geez. This one got funding crazy fun. That is awesome because this game seems like its going to be amazing with all the talent.

  • GetOffMy_Lawn

    Retail Only > Digital Only.

    > The strategy is more similar to Starcraft than it is to Valkyria Chronicles, “but different.”

They also tweeted no resource management like Starcraft, which is good. I basically want a real-time Fire Emblem, not a “how fast can you build and click stuff” RTS.

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I wish it was more towards Valkyria Chronicles, personally, lol. I don’t care for Starcraft. The only RTS I ever play and enjoy is Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Still… Keeping my eye on this one for sure.

  • Franggio Hogland

    Composer level.
I seriously don’t care if the game flops as long as Mr.Nobuo Uematsu’s music is there.
If anyone here ever get a chance to go to a concert featuring his music go. If money is an issue, well live on noodles
If that is still to much.. panhandle or go IndieGoGo it

    • DesmaX

      Oh, check the samples there.

      That Battle theme is beautiful

  • bloodiOS

    > There are “no plans” to bring the game to Wii U.

And according the FAQs on the Kickstarter page, there also aren’t any plan on bringing the game to Wii, 3DS, or XBOX ONE.

    • sherimae1324

      thats fine with me ^_^
      vita version for me!

  • Rednal

The lack of Wii stuff is apparently because Nintendo isn’t very big on Indie titles and won’t allow it to be published. So it’s not that they don’t want to, really, but… yeah.

    • bloodiOS

Japanese-based indie titles, you mean. After all, they’ve (recently) been very supportive towards Western indie developers.

      • Zancrow

Though, Nintendo’s family friendlieness is still a problem.
The Binding of Isaac could be on the 3DS without that.
        They are too conservative sometimes.

  • new_tradition

Oh whoa, I didn’t even know it already passed the 300K goal! Go, go, go! xD

Still trying to figure out who the unannounced people are. The character designer I feel I should at least know just from the artwork of that princess. The style looks so dang familiar, but I can’t put my finger on it…

  • Pyrofrost

Some of the posts in this thread…smh
The gamer community today….seriously, when did it get this bad.

On a side note, I look forward to seeing the success of this game.

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I like to think that even when the community disagrees, we can look past that and not make something more out of it.

Just because we disagree doesn’t mean we can’t be friends. – This is something I post quite often.

I certainly hope others can see things in the same light. ^^

      • Pyrofrost

Oh, I’m friendly with everyone here.
The only user on a gaming news site that I actually had anything against was this asshole who was on Andriasang.
The regs there should know who I am speaking of.
However, when I see some of the complaints or some of the debates it really makes me faceplam. That’s on any gaming website of forum though.

Not speaking of this thread in particular when I say this; but some people really choose the most petty issues to latch on to in many situations. It’s just one of those things that makes me eye-roll, and reminds me how people have changed over the years.

        • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

My post was sorta just a general statement. =)

I understand what you mean though. I really do.

          • Pyrofrost

Ah ok, I get you. I just wanted to make sure you know my PoV and know where I’m coming from.
And also know that’s I have no issues with the users here. ^^

        • bloodiOS

Wait, I’m not sure who you’re talking about. Some hint? (It’s not me, is it?)

          • Pyrofrost

            From andriasang?

            • bloodiOS

That guy was problematic to the community and just a fucking asshole in general.
(not being mean, just being completely honest.)

With bans being passed out so quickly there, I really don’t know how he avoided it.

                • bloodiOS

Ah… ahh… I remember now… oh man, those angry walls of texts, they never cease to amaze XD

                  • Pyrofrost

I know right. I just found it in my best interest never to respond to him or comment on his post.

It’s generally what I do when I’ve completely had enough of someone online. lol.

                • Tetsu

Oh wow, yeah, John Casey was quite the trouble-maker.

      • McPoo

I’m afraid I disagree with that.

      • bloodiOS

Here’s an interview with Hiroaki Yura that shed some light on a lot of things, including a pretty clear answer as of why there isn’t a Wii U support, maybe you can convince Sal to review it and do another update?

        • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Thanks for the link. I’ll have to ask Sal about this when I get the chance. I’ve been awfully busy today, and Sal had big plans for the day as well.

    • LordKaiser

I don’t see anything wrong here except a little debate that started be pure misunderstanding.

almost all the comments here are positive about the project.

      • Pyrofrost

I was simply stating my opinion on the complaint, the debate, and some of the aggression. I have nothing against the people participating in that debate, in particular; nor do I look down on them.

I also know that the comments were mostly positive in this thread. That’s why I said “some comments;” rather than, “the comments” or “most comments.”

        • LordKaiser

But the way you say sounded like a big deal and the argument between them was not that bad but nvm you explained it fully on the posts after this one and now I know what do you mean.(Not just this thread)

          *EDIT*

          OMG it got worse!

          • Pyrofrost

I guess it’s more or less my age, and just being worn down from seeing a lot of that type of bickering over and over and over again.

Being on the internet over the years, on several different gaming websites and forums; when I see that kind of thing anymore, I’m more or less thinking
insert “Not this shit again” meme here. xD

So I more or less end up making a blanket statement like I did above, rather than joining the debate. Then I state my feelings on the topic/article, and move on.

I’m glad we understand each other though mate ^^

It’s sad that you can get the PS4 from Kickstarter, but what about the Vita?

    • bloodiOS

I’m pretty sure there isn’t going to be any console reward, but they might look into it, who knows.

“A PlayStation 4 version of the game would be retail-only, but a downloadable version is also possible.”
Didn’t Sony said that PS4 games need to have downloadable versions available while the retail being the optional thing? Or does that not applies to indies?

“There won’t be a backer option to receive the PlayStation versions. This is because the PlayStation 4 version has a different publisher.”
Darn… No bundle release then… So who is the publisher?

I’m skeptical now that it isn’t DRM-free… Multiplayer sounds cool though…

I’m hardly a fan of RTSs but who can resist a team like this making a JRPG? I would pledge in a heartbeat but I must see more of the gameplay. I’ve already backed a few other things so my wallet is starting to complain…

I’ve never been this excited for an RPG since Ni No Kuni. Definite purchase.
