Hashino's letter to fans after Persona Music Fes 2013.

Hello, this is Hashino from the Persona Team,

With the live music event [Persona Music Fes] finally opening at Nippon Budokan, I’d like to thank all the fans who came out to support our project on behalf of the developers.

Before we realized, the series had become a popular topic. From television anime to theatrical plays and now large stage musical events. I truly feel that we’ve been blessed. Looking back on development, it was 2004 when we finished the Digital Devil Saga and Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, and the same team set out to start work on Persona 3. It’s already been almost 10 years! That we’ve been able to come this far is thanks to all of your encouragement. Thank you, everyone.

I’m sorry for the recent circumstances that may have caused you all concern. As next year is the 25th anniversary of the Atlus brand, there were a few things we wanted to announce, but we need you to wait a little longer. All of the unannounced titles we’re still wrestling with are currently under “earnest development.” We’re just trying to figure out how to further better them. While we’ve been spending our busy days full of challenges, we’ll do our best to work heartily and not break concentration!

Recently, it appears the value of games have become more diverse, but with your love of video games, our creative minds and accumulated know-how, and as long as the anticipation is kept alive, I believe the future of gaming will be magnificent, encouraging, and full of fun. As part of a creator, I would be happy if we were able to contribute toward that value. And to all of you, if our games are one part of your “happiness,” we couldn’t be happier.

It better not be for mobile phones like Crapcom is doing with Breath of Farts 6

  • LastBoss

I hope SNKP, has a home there, and has some game announcements this year.

The thing I love about Atlus – aside from all the stellar games they make – is that they genuinely love what they do, and care about their fans. They’ve never compromised their vision for the sake of higher game sales, a practice that is all too common in today’s market. I wish nothing but greatness for Atlus’ future, and I can’t wait to celebrate their past 25 years of excellence next year.

“They’ve never compromised their vision for the sake of higher game sales”
Then why was Megaten IV on a portable? I doubt it had anything to do with “the 3DS could handle our game better than a home console” >.>

I’d say it was put on there because the 3DS had more sales potential.

      • Dede Ogbe

For the love of god, SMTIV wasn’t even developed by the Persona team. Completely different Atlus team.

        • CirnoTheStrongest

Quite true. But the comment I responded to was about Atlus in general

          • Dede Ogbe

True, but u also have to realise that this team has recently been an open supporter of nintendo, so it really isn’t a stretch for them to develop for the new system. Considering the time they would have started development of the game, sales would not have been the deciding factor, as the 3ds wasn’t doing so well to begin with. Same thing with the Persona team developing for the Vita. At the end of the day i think it’s more to do with each teams’ personal relationship
            with the different companies.

        • fixmanfoxman

it is developed by the persona team, this screenshot is taken from atlus official website.

      • GetOffMy_Lawn

How did putting it on the 3DS compromise their vision? SMTIV, while I personally have not played it yet, is getting rave reviews form both hardcore JRPG fans and regular gamers. Putting it on the 3DS didn’t do anything to harm their vision. It sounds like the problem here is you didn’t agree with their vision. Which is exactly my point. They have a vision, and while they respect their fans input, they ultimately will do what is best for their series.

  • bloodiOS

I really can’t think of anything else aside from Persona 5, given that a Shin Megami Tensei game was just released recently. Maybe a continuation for Golden Playhouse?

  • Eclipse

Hashino’s such an awesome guy. I have nothing but respect for him and everyone else at Atlus <3

    I'm still hoping for a 3rd Raidou game ;)

  • Dede Ogbe

‘unannounced TITLES?!!’ Literally nearly passed out there. Too much awesome. So i think Persona 5 and Persona 4 Arena 2 r gonna b among those titles. But Pls pls pls let a Vita game be among them. Golden was my first Persona game and it was amazing

    • VaultBreaker

Are you skipping persona 3? Please don’t or at least watch the upcoming movie adaptation. It has the best story in my opinion,it also has tied in story with persona 4 arena.

      • Dede Ogbe

i’ve played p3. i doubt they’ll do anything with it though as they’ve already milked it dry. Unless they go down the ‘golden route’ and port FES with the addition of the female protagonist story into a full 3D P3 portable game and not the point and click one like P3P (with the addition of all the extra content from each game and maybe some new stuff). That could work to coincide with the movie. I LOVED P3 story. And i actually prefer it to P4. P3’s story is probably the best in the Persona series. P4 however was what made the series accessible to casual gamers so it’s understandable why it’s the most popular. Can’t wait for the movie. I reckon the reason they are splitting it is because there is too much to cover in one whole movie. My bet is the cut off point for the first film is when the team receive their first real shock, and loss. The second movie will deal with the revelations MC’s origins, his connection to the final boss, and whats at stake. After that, if both films are success i reckon the next best thing would be an OVA based on FES explaining wtf happened during the last battle

  • new_tradition

People have been saying for a while that P5 should be revealed at TGS, so I’m hoping that’s the case and there’s more goodies to look forward to ^^

  • Folk Hellfang

I haven’t been a big Persona or MegaTen fan, but I do admire their work and have begun to dabble in the last two releases. I really appreciate the final thoughts in this message, and I truly hope Atlus finds a good new home.

  • VaultBreaker

A little while longer? I doubt it will be announce at TGS (Persona 5)but I crossed my fingers for 2014 release.Persona 3 Velvet edition at TGS maybe? lol.

  • Pyrofrost

P5 and P4A2 on the way, AWWWWW YEAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
After all, those two are obvious.

And to guess at a completely random…a Vita port of Catherine.
I think that would be great for on-the-go gaming.

    • VaultBreaker

I wanted to see Persona 4 arena 2 too,but I’m hoping it would take place after persona 5.

      • Pyrofrost

My point of view on that lies more based on whether or not they are making P4A legitimately canon or just a side story based on all that has happened previously. This hasn’t been actually revealed yet; and Atlus LOVES making alternate stories. So at this point, that is anybody’s guess.

With the way the game is set up now, they could move straight into the sequel of the story they have crafted so far. Then create another one after P5. The game did well enough to safely justify sequels.

In a side note though, I’m curious about who the remaining ‘shadow walkers’ were. The ones who were not obvious.

        • Dede Ogbe

Yeah after the sales i think P4A has become a series in it’s own right. Though they’ll have to drop the 4 at some point and just name it Persona Arena or something. Also i read somewhere that this was canon as Atlus wanted to use it as a opportunity to explain what happened after the game. I hope they bring the main character from 3 though in the next game.

          • Pyrofrost

I would have to see a legitimate source on the idea of P4A actually being canon. I know Atlus loves its alternates as well; and they like giving them legitimate settings. So, you have to be careful with the way things are said, ‘canon setting’ can simply apply to the setting; and ‘canon story’ can simply apply to the fact that events and plot points from previous titles influence this one. However, it could still be alternate in the ‘overall canon,’ if you know what I mean.

I’m just going to go with ‘unknown’ unless I see the words directly from the mouth of Atlus, from a reputable site; or unless P5 gives us something to solidify the canon.
Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t mind if the game was canon. I’m just passionate about all things MegaTen, that’s all; and I like to have all facts straight.

            • Dede Ogbe

Same here bro. I’ll try and dig up the source. U guys in the State are lucky though with ur relationship with atlus. It’s killing me that SMT4 is seemingly forgotten for a european release

              • Pyrofrost

Oh, SMT-IV really is a great game.
You can know that it’s well worth a ‘day-one’ purchase. So be looking forward to it ^^

  • PrinceHeir

all i want is a new Trauma game that is closer to the older games(with demon incantation and all), Catherine like game, and a SMT spin off that is in the same vein as Digital Devil Saga series or Devil Summoner(both Raidou and Soul Hackers)

    please Atlus!!!!

  • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

That was just an all around kind and heart warming message. =)

  • artemisthemp

Wasn’t Catherine a Anniversary title from Atlus?

    • Pyrofrost

I don’t remember that being the case. I just know that it was the most heavily promoted Atlus game ever made at its time.

Everything else before then was primarily word-of-mouth; with very little marketing and advertisement behind it.

  • Rothion

I will be flame for this – but I’d rather have any SMT title or spin-off than anything Persona lol

Or at very least, a Persona that doesn’t recycle the same Dating Sim and character archetypes formulas from the last game (hi P4). Something new, please.

  • kuusou yume

I really wish Atlus the brightest future. I hope they are in good hands later.
