Naughty Dog IP becomes fastest-selling PS3 game.

The Last of Us, Sony and Naughty Dog’s June 14-launched PlayStation 3 title, has exceeded global sales of 3.4 million units worldwide, making it the fastest-selling new software in the history of PlayStation 3 and fastest-selling PlayStation 3 title of 2013.

“These sales figures are a testament to the blockbuster quality of The Last of Us,” said Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios. “The teams at Naughty Dog are true visionaries and their storytelling capabilities are second to none, this title is an undisputed demonstration of that. SCE continues to be committed to delivering unique gameplay experiences that redefine the interactive entertainment industry and The Last of Us is a perfect example.”

A totally new exclusive IP selling that fast!?

Can somebody tell me what kind of world we live in now?

I bet 1,000 of them are the PC gamers that petitioned TLOU on Windows PC.

Congrats Naughty Dog you are the Peter Jackson of gaming.

I beat this game 3 times! Really great game and well deserved. Naughty God have proved themselves as one of the best developer. The multiplayer is also really well done, I don’t usually play multiplayer but I’m really hooked on this one.

Can’t wait to see what Naughty God can do on the PS4!!!

    Fastest selling PS3 game O_O

I’m not surprised. It is a masterpiece afterall.

If this game was published by Square-Enix, it would be considered a colossal disappointment.

Let’s not forget. Tomb Raider was on multiple-platforms. PS3/360/PC.

I’m sure Tomb Raider has already sold a few million more by now, but it’s a tad bit unfair to compare it to The Last of Us. Since it’s exclusive on PS3.

All the more impressive I suppose. Even though, I agree with the sentiment, Tomb Raider selling that many copies so quickly seemed like quite the achievement in my eyes.

I’m sure, like I said, TR has likely hit the expected sales numbers by now. I think SE might have set the bar a bit too high, of course, I think the bar is set too high for every new release the days.

It’s very much a growing problem in the video game industry. It’s going to take a group effort from multiple parties to do anything about it.

Didn’t Tomb Raider sell 3.1 million and S-E considered it a ‘failure’?

    • Benji

but it sold 3.1 millon between ps3/360/pc and the last of us sold 3.4 millons only on playstation 3

  • Gilgamesh2025

    I’m glad!

With how good the game is, I wish I had sprung for the CE. It’s that good. D:

Congrats to Naughty Dog and everyone involved with the game. Well deserved.

    Yay! Go new IP’s.

I wonder if future games can have the same kind of breakthrough.

  • AdamBoy64

Not my sort of game, but whoa – that’s a fantastic effort.
Should be proud of themselves. Good work.
