Tales of Xillia 2 Announced for the Americas by Namco Bandai Games America Inc.

A Multi-Dimension Epic Adventure Awaits Role-Playing Game Fans in 2014 from the Acclaimed Tales of Development Team

San Jose, Calif., (July 8, 2013) – Leading video game developer and publisher Namco Bandai Games America Inc. today announced the North American and Latin American localization for Tales of Xillia 2 exclusively for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system in 2014. Building on the foundation of 2013’s Tales of Xillia gameplay and world, Tales of Xillia 2 will bring together brand new characters in this epic multiple dimensions spanning Japanese role-playing game experience.

Tales of Xillia 2 focuses on the events a year after the climactic end of Tales of Xillia. Players assume the role of Ludger Kresnik, a young man with a zest for cooking who lives with his older brother and cat, Rollo. On his way to his first day at work for a local cafeteria he runs into a young girl named Elle Marta and the two soon become involved in an accident that will change both of their lives forever.

Tales of Xillia 2 focuses its story theme around the concept of “choice”, which is also expressed heavily in the game’s overall gameplay mechanics. Throughout Ludger’s journey the player will be able to decide how he reacts to various characters and situations. These choices can cause the story to branch out into different paths depending on the player’s decisions.

Choice also extends to the battle system for Tales of Xillia 2 by enhancing the Tales of series’ trademark gameplay. Players will be able to initiate “Weapon Swap” in real-time during battles while controlling Ludger, allowing him to switch between three main weapons: dual blades, a sledgehammer and dual pistols, allowing for fast and strategic movements as he rushes across the battlefield. Building on the base from Tales of Xillia’s battle system, the new Cross Dual Raid Linear Motion Battle System will let players link to any selectable character in battle to serve as a support character and perform linked artes against targeted enemies. Different party members have different support characteristics and linked artes, allowing players to strategically decide which characters are linked to whom as various battle situations arise.

“Tales of Xillia 2 continues Namco Bandai Games’ commitment to craft best-in-class Japanese style RPGs for our amazing fans,” said Chris Gilbert, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Namco Bandai Games America Inc. “Players who have invested themselves into the great storyline and characters from Tales of Xillia will be able to fall back into that world for a brand new adventure.”

Players who have a save game file from both Tales of Graces F and the upcoming Tales of Xillia will be able to enjoy exclusive bonus items for Tales of Xillia 2. Tales of Xillia will be available exclusively for the PlayStation 3 system on August 6, 2013 for the Americas.

Tales of Xillia 2 will be available in 2014 for both North America and Latin America exclusively for the PlayStation 3 system. For more information regarding Tales of Xillia 2 and the Tales of franchise please visit http://www.facebook.com/tales and http://www.namcobandaigames.com.

Namco Bandai Games Europe announces Tales of Xillia 2 for PlayStation 3

A multi-dimension epic adventure awaits role-playing game fans in 2014 from the acclaimed Tales of development team

Leading video game developer and publisher Namco Bandai Games Europe S.A.S. announced this week-end, during a special event at the Japan Expo in Paris that Tales of Xillia 2 will be coming to Europe and Australasia exclusively for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system in 2014.

Players assume the role of Ludger Kresnik, a young man with a zest of cooking who lives with his older brother and his cat, named Rollo.

Different party members have different support characteristics and linked artes, allowing players to strategically decide which characters are linked to whom as various battle situations arise.

“We are extremely happy to bring another piece of the beloved Tales of franchise in Europe and Australasia” said Olivier Comte, Senior Vice-President at Namco Bandai Games Europe. “Tales of Xillia players will be able to fall back into this deep storyline in 2014 with Tales of Xillia 2, as we will introduce brand new characters and let them experience new gameplay features but also improvements of the first opus battle system.”

Players who have a save game file from both Tales of Xillia 2 and the upcoming Tales of Xillia will be able to enjoy exclusive bonus items for Tales of Xillia 2.

Tales of Xillia will be available exclusively for the PlayStation®3 system on August 9th, 2013 in Europe and Australasia.

Consider this game sold to me on it’s English launch day.

  • sagadeogo2011

    nice, will buy day one!

  • Brittany

Yay, I’m so going to get this.

  • 3DBudgie

Finally Tales i getting back on track!

  • artemisthemp

I hope this ain’t the surprise Baba promise us, because I was expecting this.

    • OverlordZetta

This. A hundred, thousand times this.

If this and dual audio is all he’s got for us when we all knew 2 was coming over, then that makes ne really want to be done with this franchise.

      • Bobby Jennings

We were told that Xillia 2 WOULD come over IF Xillia 1 sold well. You cannot say you aren’t surprised by this news.
Besides, I thought you were done with the franchise already

        • OverlordZetta

Excuse me? Don’t put words in my mouth.

I am not, in any way whatsoever, surprised that Xillia 2 is coming over.

          • Adurna012

While I don’t think this warrants being “done” with the franchise, I do understand your frustration. Im happy to hear both pieces of news but i did think something else was coming. But please don’t leave. We need all the fans we can get! lol.

            • OverlordZetta

Fair enough – I’ll even amend my previous statement a bit. Still, I’m sorely tempted to cancel my preorder for Xillia now, but I might as well with it so close. I really do love the games, but its just impossible to want to support the series when we in the West get such a low percentage of the games as it is, not to mention having to wait absurdly long (2014 for a game that came out in 2012? good god) for the ones that DO come out here.

I’ve wanted Hearts since info leaked on it and I’ve always been more of a portable gamer, so I might just import the damn thing and follow a walkthrough at this point. It’s a shame, but not as much of one as the fact that I have to import to play it in the first place, I think.

              • http://lukalovesgames.blogspot.de/ Alkaid

Well *scratches head* I don’t really understand your disappointment and frustration in that situation. Especially since it wasn’t really clear to begin with, if we ever again were to see a Tales of title here.

So we went from “nothing” to Tales of Graces F, then to Xillia, and now even Xillia 2. The reason why Innocence and Hearts probably don’t come here is the same reason Square Enix is hesitant to release Type-0 here. Handhelds don’t go well or at least “as well” as in Japan. And even there the Vita had a rough start.

Doesn’t a announcement like the one above make you at least a bit happy?
We are not entitled to recieve all the games we want, but… Hideo Baba gives us the chance to make some things happen. Isn’t it great that there is a higher possibility for the two portable titles? Or at least for more Taes of games in the future WITH dual audio?

              • Adurna012

Yes I agree. I keep hoping for them to announce the Vita Tales. Not only for my wants, but also for the needs of the Vita itself. Saying they wont localize because there isnt much of an install base does not help the issue at all. Rather, the opposite.

          • Bobby Jennings

I see. Well be happy that they’re pushing it in the west then. Hopefully you aren’t surprised about any future releases as well or you’re better off dropping the series.

          • Bobby Jennings

I see. But yes, you said you were dropping the series. Same difference?

  • BizarreJelly

Ahh this has made my day, playing Xillia will be all the more sweet knowing we don’t need to worry about getting the sequel.

    • OverlordZetta

The fact you felt you had to worry about the sequel in the first place speaks volumes for how this series has been handled overseas.

      • BizarreJelly

Definitely, I always worry about localization as is it’s never a certainty. Hell, even square-enix games are turning into unknowns these days.

  • whiteferrero

nahahahahaha! nanananana! i am doing the moogle dance coz this is a happy day!

  • https://twitter.com/GaleGlory89 KiQun

Simply best news of the day. PS3 will stay with me, at least til this title.

  • PrashT

    Finally…!!!!
and hopefully they include dual audio like Symphonia

  • Hating Ass Nigga

Wow,got goosebumps running down my arms and spine.

    • Hating Ass Nigga

This is actually the first time in gaming history where 5 localized Tales game were all on one system!!!!!

  • MasterSensei

Now all they need to tell us is that they will be releasing Tales of Hearts R and Tales of Innocence R and they will be the most bestest company ever!

    • Souter

Don’t forget about tales of vesperia ^^ we still Want a locations version of that xP

      • Bobby Jennings

        *cough* Xbox 360 version.

        • Souter

Doesn’t count, I want to play as Flynn & Patty and see all the extra Contents

          • Bobby Jennings

It DOES count. It’s still a Tales game. It still came to the west.

            • Souter

But why would I want to play that version when there a better version. thats like saying they should of never localised tales of graces F on ps3 as we have tales of grace on the wii

              • Bobby Jennings

Well lets see, that’s different. We weren’t getting any Tales games back then. Also Graces F was already out in Japan, so why not go with the superior version? Vesperia is different, it had a Worldwide release in one year(I believe EU got it a year later). This was their first Next-Gen Tales game. I’m not telling you to play that version. You can always get the PS3 import for $40.($55 with 1 day shipping) But if you want to play Vesperia, the 360 one is a complete product.

              • Guest

Tales of Grace for the wii was never was localized, so yes, you should play the ps3 version because that’s the only one that was localized..

                • Souter

Really thought it did xP but still I think vesperia ps3 version Deserves an localisation

  • RedFox

Amazing! Tales of Vesperia( I konow only JP), Tales of Graces F, Tales of Symphonia ,Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New world, Tales of Xillia, Tales of Xillia 2 all in PS3 :)

  • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Awesome news! I guess the Pre-Order numbers for Xillia were more than expected. Whatever the reason may be, I’m very happy with this decision. =)

    • Nitraion

Yet another reason PS3 have good life at the end of its days :D

    • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

I know I did my part on the pre-orders =3 Trying to stock up for all the purchases for August ~_~

            Will do. :)

    • Bec66

I just finished paying for my pre-order today.

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

While bringing Tales of Hearts and Innocence R here stateside will be awesome. Another awesome suprise down the road will mostly likely be when Baba later announces that “Tales of Destiny Director’s Cut,Tales of Destiny 2 & Tales of Rebirth are coming stateside as HD Remasters. Those were the 3 Tales games for PS2 that never got outside Japan.

    • DesmaX

      Can’t HD Remaster 2D sprites

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

Namco Tales is growing in Popularity more and more in Europe and NA. Im happy about that and while i love Final Fantasy i want the Tales series to be more well known outside Japan.

  • Elvick

This is nice, but wasn’t really a surprise.

  • http://lukalovesgames.blogspot.de/ Alkaid

Too much joy this year. First all that Type Moon hype, then good news about the PS4, after that Touhou, then all that Tales of hype, then more Tales of hype and … to be honest … I can’t get enough of this.
Gods what is that man (Hideo Baba) doing with us?

    • PrinceHeir

      what about Type Moon O___O

      • http://lukalovesgames.blogspot.de/ Alkaid

Fate Kaleid Anime. So it’s basically news about KALMIA’s spin-off. >__>”’
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aN0IoXU58M
The downside is up until now only 10 episodes were announced. (want more Miyu/Rider T^T)

Plus Mahouyo is now aproximately 50% translated. Sadly no news about Tsukihime 2. *headdesk*

  • Zuhri69

    Is this the real life?
    Is this just fantasy?

  • PrinceHeir

    amazing stuff Namco :D

they’re really going all through on this one :)

i do hope Xillia and Xillia 2 have JPN audio, even if it’s DLC im willing to pay for a high price!!

despite not getting Versperia, this is the best news we have gotten in a long time now :)

  • CeroSuerte

Yet another reason to keep my ps3, the problem is that we probably have to wait until August or something also i hope its in both languages

  • kuusou yume

Well, i haven’t played the first one yet so I don’t know how I feel about his. More games the merrier? I’m also only at the last dungeon in Graces f :3

  • Archvile

Man Namco, you’re on a roll! Now that makes about 4 tales games to play in the span of 1 year lol.

  • Fantasytales

great news to hear so happy ill be getting this day one. im guessing preorders are doing good to announce this before Xillia 1 released.

  • Sevyne

This is good news, but it was totally predictable news. A surprise would have been localization of the Vita games since they had pretty much said “no” to them before. Still nice though.

    • Bec66

Considering Xillia isn’t out yet it is in some way a surprise.

      • Elvick

We all knew they were considering Xillia 2 already. Them moving that announcement ahead of Xillia’s release doesn’t really change that.

The announcement isn’t a surprise, the timing is more “weird” than a “surprise”. A surprise is DBZ for Vita being localized. Something I had no reason to believe would happen, and thought wouldn’t, but it did… that is a surprise.

This is something we suspected would happen, but we weren’t really hyping it up until we saw how Xillia did.

  • http://www.facebook.com/micheal.scott.315 Micheal Scott

    Well this good news :)
Now all I need is Xillia

  • MrKappa

Good to know we won’t just be left hanging. Though I can’t really be excited because I know we won’t get ToX2 until next August or later…

  • AdamBoy64

    Wow. This is fantastic news.
It’s coming out a short time after the original too, which is nice.

  • PrinceHeir

i have the Xillia 1 collector’s edition Mila figure pre ordered, announced a similar collection for Xillia 2 and i’ll drop money ASAP!

also JPN Audio please! even if it’s DLC im willing to pay it!!

    • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

Holy cow you got the Collector’s edition, my envy is…high =( Only the Day 1 Limited edition for me, so sad ;-; This is good news though (XIllia 2) but I just had a feeling we’d get the game for sure, so the impact wasn’t as strong.

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I put down money on the Xillia CE the first week or so they announced it. I’m pretty sure this time I won’t get screwed over. I never got my Wizard Edition… Still upset about that. =/

I’m still trying to buy one (wizard edition) on ebay for a reasonable price these days.

        • PrinceHeir

          same!!!!

yeah shame you didn’t get your Wizard’s Edition :(

i still have yet to play it actually, been busy with anime/manga and stuff XD

well amazon is selling it, but that price O____O

good thing the collector’s edition wasn’t namco bandai exclusive bullshit store.

        • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

Honestly, it’s hard getting the collector’s edition of stuff. Back in the day I used to gun for them really hard but then I got too laid back. Now I’m back to trying for them xD Unfortunately I came late to the party all year, just barely for The Last of Us Survival Edition and I should have immediately pre-ordered Xillia’s CE, Tales is pretty important to me as it renewed my interest in JRPGs.

      • PrinceHeir

i preordered it as soon as it was announced.

i actually pre ordered it on gamestop because at amazon was too slow and i knew this would be rare as hell.

yeah, i already knew 2 would definitely come, i mean why waste a collector’s edition like this if you weren’t bringing the 2nd game XD

  • talesoffan

Great announcement! I’m glad I have Tales of Xillia CE pre-ordered.

  • fireemblembeast

Not a surprising announcement, but I’m excited nonetheless. And I know it’s too early to say, but I hope it doesn’t come out too late next year, and I hope it has dual audio so I don’t have to buy two versions. Anyways, I can’t wait to see what kind of LE or CE they have planned! (I want a Lulu plush toy! ^///^)

  • LightGenx

More Tales is always a good thing.

  • DrForbidden

Great to see Namdai getting their act together. I hope this is a good sign of things to come!

  • KnifeAndFork

Great! No localize Tales of Vesperia for PS3!

*runs and trips over a banana*

  • fireemblembeast

…”Rollo”? Lulu is a way cuter name! And awesome, I can’t wait to see what the bonuses will be! X)
