Oft-requested sequel set for Sony's next-gen console?

Swedish retailer CDON has listed Demon’s Souls 2 for PlayStation 4.

It’s worth noting the same site also lists Dead Rising 3 for the platform, which is likely inaccurate, considering Microsoft is publishing the title. And Titanfall, confirmed to hit only Xbox One, PC, and Xbox 360 at launch, is listed for PlayStation 4, as well. While developer Respawn hasn’t denied the possibility of a PlayStation 4 version, it likely wouldn’t arrive until some time after launch.

Evolve, Turtle Rock’s new IP from Take-Two, is also listed. This hasn’t been announced as a next-gen title yet, but given its timing, it likely will be.

But Demon’s Souls 2 isn’t too far a stretch. It’s been rumored by NeoGAF insiders in the past, and Sony Worldwide Studios boss recently teased its possibility.

“That’s a great question, but because of the attention that will get, I choose not to answer,” Yoshida told Polygon when asked about a possible sequel.

“But personally, I love Demon’s Souls. I spent hours and hours and hours [playing it].

“I love the team, I love the game and yeah, I’d really like to see more. But that’s all that I will say.”

I’m in disbelief. For now I’m just going to assume they meant to say Dark Souls 2.

    • fqc

Except the devs have confirmed there is no PS4/X1 version planned for Dark Souls 2.

  • ギャビン

Would be SICK to have this early on PS4, I need this game.

  • MrRobbyM

IT’S HAPPENING(I’m taking it with a grain of salt but I’me excited nonetheless)

Two different types of Souls games would be great. It’d be smart on Sony’s part to make use of the Demon’s Souls IP, especially with the popularity of Dark Souls. They desperately need their own RPG to make their own. As long as they don’t deviate too much from the Souls essence, I believe they have a winner.

I liked Demon’s Souls a lot more than Dark Souls. The lore, story, characters……. please let this be true :)

  • xMCXx

I’m taking this with a shovel of salt and say it’s an error on their part.

  • bloodiOS

Is this the reason why Hidetaka Miyazaki isn’t directing Dark Souls II ?

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

I’ll buy cuz “Demon’s Souls” rocked.

  • Tac-Mex

Well, Mass Effect was published by MS and it went multiplatform, so maybe Dead Rising 3 will appear on PS4, also this is Capcom, i wouldnt be surprised they would release an upgraded version on PS4 and Xbone.

    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

Sony helped create it,the chances of it going multi are like 0.

    • Justin Scott

EA own’s the rights to the original Mass Effect game now. That’s how they were able to release it for PS3. Not the same situation for Dead Rising 3 unfortunately…

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

Demon’s Souls was developed by From Software & SCE Japan Studio. You do the Math. it’s SONY owned.

    • xMCXx

Come to think of it, this is the reason they had to rename the sequel Dark Souls to make it multiplatform, I guess?

      • Lelouch Vi Britannia

Actually Dark Souls was not developed by SCE japan Studio but instead made by From Software Alone and published by Namco Bandai.

Yes because Sony owns the rights to the title. They gave up the rights in the West because they wouldn’t publish it. They felt it was too hard but From Software refused to make it easier. They allowed Atlus to publish it as it was Stateside. Since it became a huge success, Namco Bandai published a spirtual successor.

        • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

The gave up publishing rights but own the IP.

  • King-Podigy-X

Sony did say they have 20 exclusives in the first year.

  • PrinceHeir

isn’t it funny how Yoshida was the same reason why Demon Souls wasn’t localized by Sony in the west.

and how he complained he keep getting stuck on the same level?

change of heart? lol he just saw the game and how it became a hit.

maybe next time you should actually play the game before you passed it upon.

i don’t hate the guy, but i don’t like how he treated Demon Souls and it almost never came here if it weren’t for Atlus US(one of the excellent decisions they had done over the generation)

    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

He did play a really early version that was far rougher.

      • PrinceHeir

        actually no.

he played the japanese version, which already came out awhile back.

he was getting frustrated and said to himself why am i playing this?

he’s just riding the hype of the game.

if he out right cancel the localization all together we wouldn’t have this game at all.

So Demon’s Souls is another series and Dark Souls is on its own too. I don’t recall feeling any difference between the two except for the spirit/undead form.

    • adhesive

They’re really quite different past the basic gameplay. Whether the gameplay changes are better or not are debatable.

  • Elvick

Hope so. Sony should capitalize on this IP.

  • Strid

I just want to point out, that “Destiny of Spirits” blurb that was an E3 mistake/slip, that I’m sure most people have seen by now [Google it if not], is pretty much the pitch From Software gave to Sony for Demon’s Souls 2 way back when.

  • FanOfRootBeer

This is, by a wide margin, one of the most unfounded rumors I’ve ever heard. However, the notion of Demon’s Souls 2 is so friggin’ awesome that I’m still willing to hope. Seeing the D. Souls franchise go the way of other RPGs and split into two core series wouldn’t be too surprising; I’d even go so far as to call it a good thing.

  • McPoo

Demon Souls? What is this? Some sort of medieval themed shooter?

If it’s got Capture the Flag mode then I’ll probably get it.
