I WANNA PLAY FFVIII. But, i felt so lazy trying to grind up from the ground.

    • DichaTesoro

I want to play FF9, but am too lazy to look for my PS1 controller in the mess I call my room. I need to get a hold of the soundtrack at some point too.

Also, my little cat seems rather interested in in FF13 and 13-3(?).

      Sorry. I’m going now, bye.

    • Budgiecat

I don’t remember ever really grinding in FF VIII and I played the Japanese version back then before the U.S. version even came out….

    • Azuardo

FF8 is broken and with some card playing in the first few hours, you can become overpowered from early game. Combine that with getting No Encounters as soon as it becomes available and you will only ever need to fight bosses.

      Love that game.

      • futuristic_imagination

looking at my many save files (I spent so much time on that game), I managed to get squall’s Lionheart near the end of disc 1. I still remembered how i did it. :)

        • Azuardo

Haha, yeah. I don’t think I did bother to do it on disc 1 (maybe I did, but don’t remember), but I know it was definitely possible. You didn’t need to have the Weapons Monthly magazine with it in to get it to show up in the shops; as soon as you had all the required components, it would show up anyway. I should try it myself one day.

          • futuristic_imagination

I pretty surprised that I have a lot of time and patience to do all that when I was in 5th grade.

    • MosquitoLemon

Grinding up from the ground is pretty much the entire game, hahaha. You can pretty much become god-tier by the end of the first disc.

    • xMCXx

I also thought about playing FFVIII. Still have to beat it!
I don’t really mind the grinding.
I’m more annoyed at the fact that this is a FF for which you need the strategy guide or else you miss so much. Especially GFs if you’re not careful.

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

You can still draw the the summons you missed at the end of the game.

Several Bosses in the final castle give you a second chance in case you missed them the first time.

You have to use items to unlock Diabolos and Doomtrain, Doomtrain is a bit more complicated.

        • xMCXx

Yeah, but GFs are a very important part, so the earlier you get them, the stronger you are.
Getting them at the final castle is a bit late and requires even more grinding then.

          • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Just use the Islands for leveling imo. It’s been years since I played it. I think the names were Heaven and Hell Island? You need the airship though.

I didn’t really have to grind much early on in FF8 from what I remember. I spent more time obsessing over the card game lol. Love me some triple triad.

            • xMCXx

I don’t even know, man, it’s too long ago. xD
But I remember the card game and how I was too afraid to play sometimes because I didn’t want to lose my rare cards.^^

              • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Yeah, I remember doing the same. I would save and often times reset if I lost something rare and couldn’t get it back.

I also made sure to force only the rules I enjoyed playing with. The rules that were like all random cards with random this and that or whatever, I didn’t like those rules at all.

I can’t remember everything either. I haven’t played FF8 in years. I played the heck out of it back when it first released.

    • new_tradition

The enemy levels are the average of your party levels though. I’ve seen guides about refining materials into magic. Maybe easier than straight up grinding?

      • Azuardo

Exactly. The game is tailored to your party’s average levels. If you don’t want to make the game hard, do not grind for EXP. The lower your level, the better.

    • Elvick

Grinding makes it harder. I think that’s why I’ve never beat it. I’m not good at working the junction system.

I’ve made it to the end of disc 3/beginning of disc 4 and that’s it. I always get stuck at that point.

    • futuristic_imagination

The best part of ff8 is the card game its so fun and addicting.

  • Sae-Won Yoon

Recently I finished “Gargantia of the Verdurous Planet”. (Or Susei no Gargantia)
And let me tell you all; it is DAMN GOOD.

Basically it’s the story of a child soldier from a futuristic military that pilots an A.I Interface that stumbles onto a water-world to defeat a squid-alien known as “Hideauze.”
I won’t go into details nor spoilers nor Gen Urobuchi himself (that name alone might actually mislead you.)
But my god, this perhaps is the better show i’ve seen for a 13 episode run last season.

The storytelling may not be perfect, but personally, it gets pretty close. Especially as an original production as opposed to adaptations.

Godspeed Chamber, ;_; Issac Asimov might as well be proud of you.

    • bloodiOS

I actually am planning on an all-night-marathon. Currently downloading all the episodes. Very excited for it.

Been browsing around Kickstarter site and found a few interesting projects:

    • Liege: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/codagames/liege
    • Project Maiden: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1507109559/project-maiden
    • UnderTale: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1002143342/undertale

I really like what these projects had shown me thus far. Liege, in particular, is currently hitting that nostalgia like mad.In any case, UnderTale had already gotten through all of its stretch goals, so there’s nothing to worry about there, but Liege is just getting around to it, and Project Maiden is still trying to get to the bare minimum requirement. So, it would be great if anyone from this site can find these projects interesting, support them and spread the words.

    • Zuhri69

Liege does look impressive. Unfortunately, I really sucked at this kind of game.

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I just backed all 3 projects. I have to agree, Liege seems like my type of game. P.S. – My wallet doesn’t like me anymore, starting to not like you either. lol jk

My credit card keeps asking me: “Why u no wait till payday?!”

  • McPoo

What do people think of Metro Last Light?

Been playing it recently, it’s decent but the story and acting really doesn’t compare the The Last of Us, which I played directly before >_< I think that may have ruined all other story heavy games for me now!

    • bloodiOS

Putting greater effort into the facial expressions would’ve been great.

      • McPoo

Agreed. All of the dialogue feels really rushed as well. The Metro is a great environment but you keep getting scurried along with no time to really take it all in.

    • GetOffMy_Lawn

Worst part of playing a really great game for the first time is that it ruins all video games for you for quite some time. After I beat FFVII for the first time, it literally took me months to get over the “well that game was ok, but it’s no FFVII…” syndrome.

      • McPoo

Yeah, luckily it doesn’t seem to be the same with everything I’ve played since. Started Saints Row 3 today and an enjoying it, but it’s so far removed from The Last of Us that there’s no way to make a comparison!

The problem with Metro is there is a big focus on the story, but the writing and acting just isn’t up to par. Still a decent game, but I’m more interested in playing TLoU again than I am completing this game that’s completely new to me.

    • Nice Boat

I got that with Metal Gear Rising’s gameplay. After beating it and replaying four time, I played Batman Arkham City with a friend. We were saying “Why is Batman so slow?”

  • EspadaKiller

Feeling excited about FFXIV…it’s only around a month more to the release date!

  • Carlos Luis Ayala

    Please support the #ReleaseDart Campaign!

    • Elvick

That game is dead. Sony fucked it up. Time to move on.

      • McPoo

Shame though, it was quite good fun

You know what other video game character Zero (Drakengard) would work well with? Kratos from ‘God of War’. At least that’s what I think

  • RSene

So, about Millenium Girl… what is it about?

I’m assuming it’s two two games inside one packge, one brand new, and the other a remake, Am I right?

  • RSene

So, Patcher spoke about the Wii U this week…

Chances Nintendo to become the new Sega?

    • MosquitoLemon

Sega didn’t exactly have the handheld market cornered. And certainly not in a time when the handheld market was as lucrative as it is now. It’d be nice if Nintendo could get their console act together, but they’ll never have to worry about giving up the hardware game.

      • RSene

Yes, indeed… I think Nintendo’s idea was something like this: We will not compete directly with Sony and MS, we will have our own pace, and since we have a innovative system, devs will be interested in making products for it. So we don’t compete directly with them, but we will keep competitive in the market.

Of course, this isn’t happening with Wii U because Wii U isn’t selling. In my view, it’s not selling because ppl like me want to play that great list of news third party titles is commng, something WIi U can’ t cope with, since they’re in a different pace.

Of course, Nintendo will lauch their products on it, and the console will sell, but I think Wii U will always be the second option for the most gamers.

        • MosquitoLemon

Ever since the 64, Nintendo’s home consoles have been the second option for people who want to play a large library of third party games.

And unfortunately, I don’t think Nintendo was avoiding direct competition this time. They played up the fact that they were going to have a lot of cross platform titles this time around. I think they should have stuck with their old strategy and maybe convinced developers to make unique games for their new console instead of creating a so-so gimmick that nobody knows what to do with.

  • MosquitoLemon

I recently earned some PSN money and went on a shopping spree. I grabbed King of Fighters XIII ($15), Persona 4 Arena ($23), and my beloved Wipeout HD (which I had already had 7.49 in my account for, but needed 40 more cents…). KOFXIII is freaking amazing, wish I had gotten it sooner. Persona is alright, I’ve played it before and just kind of wanted to own it, but never bothered picking it up.

In Sengoku Basara 3 I’m working on finishing Fuuma Kotaro’s campaign (never thought the ninja would be so fun), and then I’ll move on to Tadakatsu …

    • Kobracon

Air superiority bioootch! Never touch the ground! EVER!

  • Azuardo

Beat Hotline Miami (PS3) this week. Love it so much. Soundtrack is amazing. The only bad thing is that there are some bugs, and that it had to come to an end.

  • OverlordZetta

Is it safe to update PS3s yet? I picked up the Ratchet Collection and SotC off the sale, but when I went to download them I was told I needed to update my PS3. I hesitate though, since I’ve heard a recent update is killing PS3s. Anybody know?

    • Pyrofrost

Yes, it is safe. You should get 4.46 instead of the flawed 4.45

      • OverlordZetta

        Good to know! Thanks.

        • Pyrofrost

No problem at all, you’re quite welcome. ^_^

    • Elvick

That update was pulled within hours of being put up…

    Random comment: Xillia 2! YAHO!

And: The single (full version) of the opening of Shingeki no Kyoujin is even more amazing than the TV sized version!

Really good german in a japanese opening! WHEE!!! xDDD

  • DarthBrian

    Playing FFVII on PC.

All these NPCs are treating Aerith poorly. I wish there was an option for Cloud to kick their asses. How dare they treat the queen of all video game characters like that? They should be punished for their vile behavior! >_<

  • Locksus

Playing Donkey Kong Country on my super old SNES at the moment.
Holy hell, the music is simply fantastic and the level variety is great.

Definitely one of my all-time favourites.

    • Azuardo

Hah, I literally just had a quick blast on the same game earlier today.

  • Bryce Blalex Douglas

Just got Mortal Kombat through the summer deal and man it’s fun (and I’m not a big fighting game gamer).
PS. I don’t know if it’s still going on but check out the Best Buy online deal that gets you $20 PSN card and a 3 month PS+ sub for $27.99. The PS+ is original $17.99 for 3 months so you save $10.

  • Elvick

The final dungeon in the Future Arc of Tales of Graces ƒ is a bish. So I’m taking a break from the game.

Got the platinum in LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval’s Journey. Fun game, I think the fact there’s no console version made it more fun. Since the pre-rendered cutscenes weren’t horrid, like they are in other LEGO games (that are also on consoles). It was just a fun LEGO game. Not held back by being a crappier version of a console LEGO game, with horribly compressed and terrible cutscenes.

Playing Muramasa Rebirth too. Hopefully this time I can beat it. I got stuck on Wii. xP Looks so sexy on the Vita. Can’t wait to see Dragon’s Crown on Vita.

    • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

When you return to ToGF, my advice is to grind as much as you can. The last dungeon is…oh god, I know your pain but when you deal the smack down, you’ll feel that much better! Oh, you mentioned Legends of Chima, is there any reason why this isn’t on PSN?

      • Elvick

I have no idea why that game isn’t on PSN. I didn’t even know it came out, because I usually pay more attention to Vita releases from the PSN release dates. Since they usually come out the same time, and every Vita game was digital… until now. xP

        I guess licensing? Who knows.

Yeah, I’m in the 70s and struggling. I almost got wiped out a few times in that dungeon just trying to find my way back to the entrance. It’s bad enough the enemies are tough, but the dungeon forces you down and down and down before letting you get out of there.

Stressful place. Plus the layout is super confusing. D:

        • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

Classic PS2 era dungeon design -nod- It does worry me that some games can come out on Vita and break the “All games must be released on PSN” mandate =( Especially since Vita does a good bit of its sales digital.

  • Nice Boat

I watched World War Z. It was a good break from the overthetop Resident Evil stories but if you are a fan of the original novel you will be disappointed with the lack of political commentary and the huge role a single character has. It could easily be retitled “Brad Pitt versus the World.”

    • AnimusVox

I agree. They could’ve named it anything else and it would’ve been decent on its own. Not that it was a bad movie (read the book) it was about a 6 out of 10 on my scale.

This has been a very, VERY good day for fans of Japanese video games.

  • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

I think today brings it all full circle when people wonder why Sony don’t publish Japanese games. Answer? They’ve got 3 companies to do it for them. NISA, Aksys, and Atlus. Though these days, Atlus is more of a lesser extent. Plus Actill is now in the mix and all Sony has to do these days is raise some word with their partners. I’m guessing where Sony could be more effective is talking to bigger third parties whom have their own means to localize their games, such as Square Enix or Namco Bandai.

    • AnimusVox

Speaking of Sony, apparently they’re Japan studio is working on an RPG.

      http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=614761

      • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

Mhm, I’ve mentioned this albeit in a totally different topic. Not one but two! If I had to guess, Unannounced JRPG1 is Dark Cloud 3 or Legend of Dragoon 2 (as I know Yoshida has been wanting to do it for awhile), Unannounced JRPG2 is definitely a new IP of course. I’m wondering who’s heading up the second IP as my curioisity is definitely piqued for it. Now if they can localize Oreshika I’d be fine with Sony but it’d be a sad day if those titles were published by the trio I mentioned in my post just now -__-

        • AnimusVox

          Dark Cloud 3 OR Legend of Dragoon 2? Why cant we have both? ;~;

          • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

B-because…Yoshida D=? Well in all honesty, RPGs are expensive productions and if they’re doing it somewhat in-house or at least trying to do more in-house; then they could probably only work on one or the other at a time.

      • LordKaiser

It’s better be a 100% offline game that don’t require support. Japan Studio published the 1rst White Knight Chronicles and they didn’t released all the quests. When WKC2 was around the corned for some reason they choose D3P as a publisher in America and Sony only published it in America.

The game was partially supported but it got abandoned in less than a year leaving the in game forums unmoderated and cheaters using modded files unbanned. The server was in Sony’s possession so… I don’t feel live baying anything that says online features from them.

    • LordKaiser

It’s better that it stays that way.

      • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

Is it really better though? Square Enix, Namco Bandai, etc aren’t exactly willing to let their games be published by Atlus and friends. They’d probably be more comfortable if Sony took over the games publishing directly. This setup is good for the smaller developers for sure but something big like FFType-0, better believe Sony has to publish it themselves.

        • LordKaiser

I just lost my faith in them to publish RPGs

          • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

Y’never know, I think Sony could still surprise ;D

  • LastBoss

What did you guys generally think of the interface menu of the Final Fantasy XIII series, all around?

I was thinking I would like a Fire Emblem X Y’s crossover, and it’d be pretty dope for ARW to do a version of DarkStalkers, in there style.

  • LastBoss

What has been the things that mostly drew you in this Gen?

    • McPoo

The advances in tech and how they’ve helped with story telling. The motion cap in TLoU or La Noire really do bring games to life for me.

Personally I find story the most important thing in a game. I’ll come with bad mechanics if there’s a good tale to be told, I won’t bother if not. The stories told this generation have been truly brilliant at times, I can’t wait to see what comes next.

    • MosquitoLemon

Nothing in particular. I wouldn’t have even gotten a console (PS3, in my case) if it weren’t for this past black friday deal. If there is one thing I’m really happy about, it’s the resurgence of fighting games. There have been a lot of great console ports in just the past few years, probably the best generation for ports since the Dreamcast.

      • McPoo

This generation has thrown out Injustice: Gods Among Us, which I reckon is the best fighting game since Tekken 3, and the only one since then that hasn’t bored me to tears within 3 days. One of my favourite games of the year, without a doubt.

        • MosquitoLemon

never heard of it, but yeah, there’s something for everyone this generation in terms of fighting games

          • McPoo

It’s the DC Superhero fighting game, it’s been really popular. I recommend you try it, it’s fantastic.

            • MosquitoLemon

oooh, is that the like, mortal kombat ‘we don’t want batman to have a fatality’ game? Haha, I literally haven’t heard anything about it other than that, have to give it a look

              • McPoo

Yeah that’s the one, done by same guys as the last Mortal Kombat.

It’s got interactive environments, some insanely cool level transitions and a great roster.

It’s sold really well and has dropped in price quite a lot since its release, so definitely worth trying out. If you like playing online then it’s got a pretty good set of online modes too :D

Well…with July being here. It’s almost 6 years since I joined Wikia back July 2008.
I didn’t think I would still be using it. I had that account far longer than I had with Youtube, Deviantart, and Twitter.

  • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I got the chance to listen to some arrangement albums this weekend. Both are from Square-Enix.

You might have heard of these? Battle SQ & Beer SQ.

    http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_SQ

    http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Beer_SQ

    I’ve enjoyed both of them.

Battle SQ – This is the more upbeat album. It even has a few dubstep like remixes. I usually don’t care much for dubstep, but I enjoyed it mixed with video game tracks. The other tracks are also electronic mixes, but not all of them are super loud, some are more relaxed.

Track from Battle SQ: SIGMA HARMONICS Hope Giving “Dance of the Dog’s Howl” –

    http://tinyurl.com/lpyos85

Beer SQ – I bet you are asking the same question I did before I listened to this. Why is it called Beer SQ? You only need to start playing the album and you will quickly find out.

Track from Beer SQ: The Seven Travelers (Unlimited SaGa) –

    http://tinyurl.com/mzdbjef

This might be the most soothing video game album I’ve ever listened to. Seriously! It’s incredibly relaxing. It also just made me feel better overall after listening to it.

Both are quite enjoyable. Just wanted to share. =)

(First comment did something weird. Removed it.)

    • DichaTesoro

      Goodness, thank you for this!

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

You’re welcome! I’m more than happy to share. I listen to tons of video game music. It’s always nice to find others who do the same, and share something with them they might not have heard before. =)

        • DichaTesoro

Now I’m stuck listening to FF music (not that it’s a problem…though, I work tomorrow in the am). All the feels right now, really. Uematsu is just the best.
You ever hear Hylian Emsemble’s LoZ stuff? I just heard of it a few weeks ago and can’t stop listening.
The one thing about listening to video game music is that some is hard to come by. I try buying OSTs whenever available.

          • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I’ll be checking out the LoZ stuff here very soon. Thanks for the heads up.

I love Final Fantasy music. I always have. It’s been a part of my life for so many years, through the good and bad times. Just like the games have been. =)

I had a dream and in the dream i was in front of my PC browsing Gematsu and there I was watching the news that Namco Bandai was making the Tales of Destiny HD collection that included Tales of Destiny DC and it’s sequel Tales of Destiny 2 and it also included Tales of Rebirth as a Bonus for PS3. Also Hideo Babba hinted it was coming to America….

Too bad it was just a dream…

Just out of curiosity, does anyone here like Dragon Age? I was thinking about it the other day, and I seem to be the only person that enjoyed 2 more than Origins. Am I alone in that opinion, or would anyone else agree?

I much preferred having a voiced hero, gave him much more of a personality, and made the story a lot more enjoyable. The environments were really recycled, but I could honestly overlook it because I enjoyed the plot so much.
