Oerba Yun Fang returns in Lightning's new game.

Square Enix released a new trailer for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII at Japan Expo in France. Among its scenes, you’ll see the return of another character, following this week’s earlier Hope Estheim reveal.

Watch it below.

  • DarthBrian

With Fang returning that means there’s hope for Vanille too! <3

  • Zuhri69

    Noel, what happened to you?!!

    • Aldridge517

      Clearly he’s gone full emo.

    • uhawww

Given his relationship with Caius and Serah, and given the way XIII-2 ended, I imagine he didn’t take things very well…
Either that, or this is an alternate timeline Noel. XIII-2 broke all kinds of expected consistency XD

    • Zero

He believes Lightning will destroy the world or something. It’s in the prophecy or something like that. He mentions it in one of the previous trailers. It’s tough to tell if this is the same Noel from the end of 13-2, or if this is Noel from a different timeline.

Gotta wait and see I suppose. He could be a Noel from a possible Paradox ending or something? I suppose the same thing could be said about the other returning characters?

  • Tac-Mex

    It looks meh

  • Tac-Mex

Definitely it doesn’t look like a Final Fantasy game

Hell Bravely Default is more of a FF than the entire XIII series is, it plays like FF5.

  • Adol Christin

    Yes, Fang is back :)

  • Sae-Won Yoon

….Y’know Square, Maybe introducing new characters could go a long way for this game.

No I’m not talking about that Serah look-a-like-whose-name-eludes-me.

  • Jackle

FANG! It hurts that she won’t be playable though, but happy to see she’s back! And I can’t get over Lumina’s voice, really cute.

  • Zero

Fang! My favorite character in the series! I’m so happy she’s back. =)

  • AnimusVox

    *sees Fang* :o *swoon*

  • Aldridge517

So first Lightning was working for the Fal’Cie, then she was working for Etro, now she’s working for “God” (Bhunivelze I pressume). Humanity has zero control over it’s own destiny in this series.

    • artemisthemp

God she mean Tetsuya Nomura or who the guy that make FXIII is.

    • uhawww

Humanity has always been pawns on the chessboard manned by gods, kings, and aristocrats.

  • futuristic_imagination

Did anyone laugh at the “one day, the light touched me” at the beginning? :)

  • LightGenx

I’m hoping we get to see Sazh and Vanille in some form.

  • Gilgamesh2025

Awesome trailer, as usual! Looking forward to play the game! :)

  • MrKappa

God himself? I thought Etro was the “goddess” of the FFXIII universe.

What really pisses me off though is that we are getting all these English trailers but we aren’t getting the damn game until next year despite it actually coming out this year.

    • Syltique

Bhunivelze is the “maker” in FNC mythology. He is the son of Muin. Muin eventually fled because he was going to kill her, thinking that she was plotting to destroy the world (but she wasn’t). So she fled to another dimension.

Bhunivelze created Etro, Lindzei and Pulse to find her and then went into a deep sleep. Etro created humanity, and Lindzei and Pulse created all fal’cie.

“God” in LR is Bhunivelze waking up finally.

      • Tsukiru

Actually, Bhunivelze did kill Mwynn (the English translation of her name). He killed her after deciding he wanted to take control over the world of the living for himself. As a result, she was sent to Valhalla. He believed that she placed a curse on the mortal world that would someday destroy it, so he sought a way to kill her once and for all. He tried to go to Valhalla, but couldn’t go there without giving up control of the mortal world.

That was when he created Pulse, tasked with finding the gateway to Valhalla. After Pulse, he created Etro who was made to assist Pulse in finding the gateway to Valhalla. It was only when he realized she was made in Mwynn’s likeness that he stripped her of her powers and created Lindzei, who was tasked with protecting the mortal world and Bhunivelze himself.

        • Syltique

He didn’t kill her actually. She vanished to the other realm, and when she got there she realized that the worlds are out of balance and that Chaos threatens all of existence (this is the threat to the world that Bhunivelze mistakenly thought was from Muin).

So, she then stayed there and held the balance as long as she could until Chaos fully absorbed her – which is what killed her. This didn’t happen until after Etro already got there. Muin explained the situation to her before dying.

Then Etro held the balance as long as she could by creating humanity, and sacrificing herself in much the same way Muin did.

A little neat bit of trivia from all this is that Bhunivelze, Muin and Etro had no idea what Chaos even was, which means they’re not omnipotent.

          • Tsukiru

He mortally wounded her, which led to her death afterward. She gained entry to Valhalla in her dying state and managed to stay alive until she gave Etro the task of protecting the balance of the two worlds. After that, she was fully taken by the Chaos.

  • Kobracon

Hmm….interesting. Lighting seems to be some form of valkyrie now. Also FANG! YAY!

And can Noel see prophecies now?

    • Pekola

He can see Oracle Drives. They’re also in XIII-2.

The people of Luxerion have been seeing prophecies of the Savior coming to destroy the world, and they believe this to be the full truth of the matter. So they go around trying to murder Light.

      • Kobracon

  • Serovath

    minor spoilers!

am i the only one still concerned that there’s nothing about serah… i mean, we did get a cliffhanger ending for ff13-2…

  • Ace

Also, another thing… Why hasn’t any of the trailers mentioned Caius at all? He was the body-suit antagonist of the last game…

  • Alkaid

Okay… seeing Fang in here really made up for a lot of things they did to my soul in the past. And she’s even the BOSS of the bandits. How’s that! Poor Claire only get’s the “god’s savior”/lackey treatment but Fang instantly works her war up to a thief guild in the middle of nowhere. HAH! xD

*cough* please excuse me, I love that woman. Her appearance alone will guaranty that I won’t ignore the game like I planned to do. ^////^”’
But there’s a grain of salt in that soup! Why did they use her FFXIII model in there? She earned her glorious new pixels or at least a moving robe! And where the hell is Fang’s most important person?! Hope she’s even in there since Fang would be sad without her.
