Multiplayer and gameplay revealing coming "soon."

Grand Theft Auto V will require a mandatory installation on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Rockstar Games confirmed in a new ‘Asked & Answered’ post.

The PlayStation 3 version will come on one disc and require 8 gigabytes of free space. It will install upon initial startup.

The Xbox 360 version will come on two discs. The first disc will be used for the game’s installation, and the second disc to play it afterward. You’ll need 8 gigabytes of free space either on a hard-drive or a USB 2.0 16 gigabyte flash drive with a minimum of 15mb/s read speed and formatted for Xbox 360 use.

Rockstar promises the “same great gameplay experience” on both platforms, and expects any visual differences to be “completely negligible.”

The studio also teased the incoming reveal of Grand Theft Auto V‘s multiplayer component.

“Expect to hear some first details soon,” Rockstar said, “it’s called Grand Theft Auto Online and we’re very excited to unveil it for you sometime this summer.”

It also teased incoming gameplay footage.

“Soon (or in September if you don’t want to see it before you play it… it’s up to you) – the first official gameplay video is on its way…”

Finally, Rockstar said it doesn’t have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or PC release “at this time” and are “completely focused” on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions.

hahahaha 2 disc for 360 xD

    • Sal Romano

It’s not really that big a deal in this case, especially since the first disc is one-time use.

      • MasterSensei

Now doesn’t that remind you of something… it starts with an X and ends with One…” The first disc will be used for the game’s installation”

Yeah I know that they have changed the DRM and it’s on both PS3 and Xbox 360 but why did they have to do this?

        • BossTuff

It’s not really the same as the DRM that was originally on the XboxOne. Actually, that’s just a silly comparison since both the PS4 and XboxOne will be using blu-ray discs.

Also, there are plenty of games that had mandatory installs back just a couple of years ago. One that immediately comes to mind is MGS4 with its 4.5 gig install.

I don’t see a problem with this, especially since the HDDs in most consoles should easily have room for an 8 gig install.

          • Marco Tinè

… and MGS4 installed cleverly in-between chapters, so that you could take a little break before returning to the game. It wasn’t particularly annoying, especially because there are much larger and longer installations on PS3.

        • Raoni Marques

There are a lot more ps3 games with mandatory installs than 360 games. I have both systems and I hardly had any mandatory install on my 360, so I don’t see any problem.

          • Elvick

Except those mandatory installs are due to the PS3’s bluray player and it’s slow disc read speed, not for DRM purposes.

Regardless, that’s irrelevant to this topic imo. (DRM that is)

    Woah, 8gb!?

    My poor hd…

  • bldudas

Eight GB? Must be a really, really big game.

whats up about the complains???? GRAN TURISMO 5 requires about 10GB and no one complains, the story of LA NOIRE and MAX PAYNE repeats again: PS3 will be better just 1 disc

    • DesmaX

Yeah, I bet everyone didn’t mind GT5 1 hour installation

    • Sae-Won Yoon

…And here I thought the MGS4 install was long.

    • bloodiOS

      Wasn’t it optional?

  • rainelee

Was kind of expecting this, considering the size of the game.

  • F. Ewe

This is quite normal and expected.

  • Learii

i just wanna know if i can change the controller to classic like GTA 4

  • Elvick

Wasn’t buying it, so doesn’t effect me.

  • Belenger

For someone who has never played a 360 game without being fully installed (due to improving life time of dvd laser), I hope I can install the second disc too otherwise I’ll just skip the game and wait inevitable for pc ver.

    • Karl Josef

what you gonna do to PC version? pirate it? LOL
