Killer is Dead got 35/40! Not that I really care much about Famitsu but hell yes!
I’m now excited for this game more than ever.

  • Tenshiken

Not surprised by Killer is Dead score, though I’m a little concerned about Mind 0’s 30/40.

    • 罪罰

It’s not a bad score and regardless if it have gotten a lower score than that I do not feel the need to remind you that this is Famitsu.

      • adhesive

Major video game media sources like IGN and Famitsu throw 9s and 10s away like they mean nothing. This ruins the 10 point scaling method so games with a 7(which would normally be quite good) are treated as mediocre or worse. When a hyped game gets such a low score, it is often a bad sign.

        • Mad_Dog_Yayan

Considering they give Persona 3 a 32, Persona 4 a 33 (Golden got 35), I hardly think the scores matters much now.

  • Rafael Martines

    No Dragons Crown?

    • bloodiOS

      That was last week:

      • Rafael Martines

        Thanks :D

        Dragon’s Crown (PS3) – 9/8/8/9 [34/40]
        Dragon’s Crown (PSV) – 9/8/8/9 [34/40]

  • shogunknight

Mind 0 and Dragons Crown, would like to see the numbers sold as of this week

What the hell is up with this trend of people here acting all hipster about Famitsu lately?

It’s not like there are a plethora of media outlets pumping out game reviews in Japan. Unlike the West, where literally anyone can be a goddamned critic.
Famitsu most certainly is NOT on the level of IGN.

I find their scores pretty reliable. Anything below a 25 is generally pretty fucking shit. Anything above that I find playable to fucking awesome (if it’s my kinda game). However, don’t sit there and compare them to IGN, that’s just a load of shit.
If anything, compare them to Destructoid. For having reliable, yet sometimes exaggerated or embellished reviews. However, don’t shit on them for not giving your latest trendy niche title a 40/40. Those games are called niche for a reason, because they are basically only preferred by a minority of a minority of a minority.

I’m interested in Mind 0 as well, but lets be realistic here.

Thank you Sal, for bringing us the weekly Fami Scores.

    • McPoo

Famitsu gave Nintendogs a perfect score. That alone makes them ridiculous in my eyes. They just seem to give high scores based on how Japanese a game is, so they’re pretty crap imo.

I won’t take their reviews seriously, same goes for Edge. That’s cos Edge are just ridiculously harsh to some games without good explanation.

      • Pyrofrost

“They just seem to give high scores based on how Japanese a game is.”

Care to clarify this? Because I can start pointing out completely non-Japanese games that have received high Fami Scores.

        • McPoo

And how many are there compared to Japanese games?

Do you think Nintendogs deserved a perfect score

EDIT: I’d like to clarify that I’m sure they are very equal blah blah blah, but they’re perceived as being biased towards Japanese games.

          • Pyrofrost

            1. Western games actually generate good Fami scores quite often.

            2. No “I” don’t. However the answer may be different depending on who you ask.
Do “I” believe Skyrim deserved a 40/40….HELL NO. However, it’s also not my kind of game. I’m sure you can find people who will tell you why it deserved a 40/40.

      • DrForbidden

Care to explain why Mind 0 got a 30 and Sangoku Hime 2 got a 24, then? Are these games not Japanese enough?

So they gave Nintendogs a perfect score once upon a time. I’m sure that’s not even their worst performance. Nintendogs has 85% on GameRankings and 83% on Metacritic, so it’s hardly a turd to most western reviewers, either. I think it’s time you got over that and moved on, instead of harping on a foul ball that they played 8 years ago. We don’t even know if the same 4 reviewers are still at Famitsu.

Do I think Famitsu is completely unbiased? No, but then, nobody is. And I certainly do not agree that any review site that gives an unsatisfactory score to a game that I personally like and believe to be good is automatically untrustworthy. And finally, I really don’t think Japanese reviewers liking games that are ‘more Japanese’ – whatever that means – is anything to write home about. Lots of western reviewers won’t even deign to review visual novels or games that are ‘too Japanese’. Liking or preferring particular genres or elements is also a personal taste.

        • McPoo

I’m sorry, I’ve not played those games so it’d be unfair of me to comment on how Japanese they are.

I see what you’re trying to do here: luring me into making a daft statement. We’ll sir, I shan’t be having that. If you won’t play gentlemanly then I won’t be playing with you at all!

          • DrForbidden

I’m no gentleman. Never said I was. Still, I’m baffled about what you said about luring you, though. I myself have made phenomenally daft statements in my time, so perhaps I should be better at detecting them (though I suppose I’m not). If that’s how you interpreted my post, then I should clarify that I had no such intention, nor any malice.

What I meant was simply what I wrote. I think we should move on from that one embarrasing review they gave 8 years ago. We’ve all had our drunk moments we’re not proud of. I also think that opinions are opinions, and while I wouldn’t trust Famitsu to administer an election or act as judge in a trial, I do believe that they are entitled to give whatever scores they wish to give without having to justify them to the satisfaction of people who disagree.

I respect your right to your opinion, but I do respectfully disagree that Famitsu reviews are worthless or inherently more biased than most major review sites on the internet.

            • McPoo

Who told you about my embarrassing drunk moments??

That’s personal information and I don’t care how you became privy to it, but I’d appreciate your discretion and silence on the matter.

      • HeatPhoenix

I usually agree with you but Nintendogs was (and probably is) the best dog simulator ever made so why shouldn’t it get a perfect score?

        • McPoo

For the same reason Euro Truck Simulator doesn’t deserve a perfect score?

It’s good at what it does, and is even quite fun, but I wouldn’t say it’s worthy of a perfect score.

It’s swings and roundabouts though. The reviewers obviously thought that as a game, it was deserving of the highest score possible. I don’t agree, but then that’s reviews :p

  • Mad_Dog_Yayan

Famitsu is definitely more reliable than IGN, but let’s face it, this is the magazine that gave Persona 3 and Persona 4 (original and Golden)
lower scores than Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2

    • http://jpoplove.eu/ jpoplove

Personally I like Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 more than Persona games.

      • LightGenx

I don’t know why this is getting down voted. Opinions, people have them.

        • DrForbidden

Lots of shit-trollers downvoting anyone who deigns to disagree with their opinion and sense of entitlement. jpoplove has every right to his/her preferences, and to express them, even though I personally disagree with his/her opinion.

  • Elvick

Do they usually score LEGO games around that score? Because, from what I saw of the game it looks nice but suffers from all the flaws of LEGO games. Like mediocre combat and wonky platforming.

    • McPoo

It’s a good game actually, probably their best along with Lego Batman 2.

It could’ve done with a bit more technical polish, that’s the only downside. And multiplayer!

      • Elvick

I didn’t mean to imply it’s bad, just your typical LEGO experience. Only with an open world… and awesome writing (IMO anyway). I watched a Let’s Play and enjoyed the writing and voice acting.

Will probably buy it when I get a Wii U.

        • McPoo

          Ah sorry.

It’s sort of a typical Lego game, but there are changes. The combats now like a basic Arkham game. Very, very simple but entertaining, and there isn’t too much of it anyway. The platforming is much better with the free running stuff now too.

The biggest change is the collectibles. They’ve made them a lot more appealing to complete, which is good as you don’t have the option of getting them with a buddy. There’s races, combat challenges, free running challenges, as well as the less structured ones you find dotted around the world.

It gives a lot more variety to the open world stuff. The story missions are self contained like any other Lego game though.

  • McPoo

Personally I’d have marked Metro lower and Lego higher.

    Hrm… I was expecting about this much for Killer is Dead, but I am quite disappointed with Mind-0’s score ;w;

Still, I look forward to both of them next week~!

    • Pyrofrost

I don’t understand why the hell you got a down-vote for your post, so here is an up-vote.

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

        Such a bro ;w;

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Mind 0 got a 30/40? Good enough for me.

  • new_tradition

Killer is Dead scoring the same for both versions should bode well for people concerned about the game’s performance being better on one platform, I think.

But if you have both consoles, then I dunno how you’d choose, lol

  • PrinceHeir

    Killer is Dead!

    can’t wait for this!
