Plus, a replica of the script for the first Drakengard game.

The 10th Anniversary Commemoration Box version of Drakengard 3 will include a download code for a costume based on Kaine from Nier, Square Enix has announced.

Additionally, the set will include a replica of the script for the first Drakengard game.

Outside of the special edition, Square Enix announced that Weapon Stories—stories that reveal the history of a weapon and were featured in previous Drakengard games—will return in Drakengard 3.

The news was announced during the game’s latest Nico Nico live information broadcast, which also debuted seven minutes of gameplay footage. Watch it below.

That’s a nice gesture for DLC, more Kaine is always appreciated ^_^

  • Sim

only for premium box.. huh i guess i might get it then.. oh wait i can’t since its only available on SE JP story… /Facepalm/

  • Zackasaur

The costume is explained in Kaine’s backstory, but it just feels like objectification when thrown on another character (not that it necessarily wasn’t in the first place, but at least it was justified!).

That’s the negative spin on this.

    On the other hand…

Yay! They’re acknowledging Nier, which I think is one of the most amazing and under-looked games around. Speaking of which, I think I’ll go replay it.

…. They had better localise Drakengard 3. >:|

    • GhostNomad

I agree with all of this, especially replaying Nier (mine’s sitting right next to me, just tempting me to change my plans for the day so I can play sooner).

    • new_tradition

Wait, it is explained? I understood the bandaged portions, but I don’t remember anything about why she was wearing what she was. Can you remind me? It’s been a while since I played NieR >.<

      • Zackasaur

        Yeah, I can explain!

Needless to say, but just in case anyone is reading this accidentally…. SPOILERS INCOMING.

Kaine is abused by adults and children alike early in her life because she s actually a hermaphrodite. They call her things like “freak,” throw rocks at her, etc. She wears the goofy lingerie to try to emphasise her feminine characteristics because she’s so sensitive about being a hermaphrodite.

i hope that helps! I can answer any other questions if you’d like. c:

        • new_tradition

Oh whoa, that actually makes perfect sense, lol. Thanks you ^^

I remember the flashback novella segment when you start Ending B, but I guess certain things was supposed to be implied without being spelled out xD

(although I remember reading how there were some more side stories in the artbook or something released in Japan…Shoot, I’m gonna try to find some translations now!)

          • owningLpeople

More background story regarding Nier can be found in Grimoire Nier (book) and there’s
already a fan translation of that in english.

Information about Kaine being Hermaphrodite was found in Grimoire Nier and was not emphasize on the game (as said on the interview). This is regarding to

            **** SPOLIERS ****

her gestalt and her being a replicant.

            **** END SPOLIERS ****

But that’s another discussion and to avoid unnecessary spoliers, just read the Grimoire Nier.

Oh, the explanation for Kaine’s clothing is learned from “Kaine’s Dream” after finishing the game and playing the Ending B route.

What Zackasaur “wrote” was just a copy paste from a wikia. I hope this explains it more in a clear manner.

              Thank you ♥

        • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

SPOILERS:—————–I thought she was entirely female but was possed by a male demon————-

          • Belenger

*MORE SPOILERS* No, she was a hermaphrodite from the get-go, the possesion happened by her end of childhood days and the demon guy used to be someone inherently related to her and her grandma well their originals, also someone directly related to number #6 and #7 experiments.

More on this on the Nier Drama CD.

            • new_tradition

              Holy crap, that’s amazing O_O

Oh gawd, I’m thinking about certain scenes in a new light now…@_@

          • Zackasaur

Nope! As Belenger said, she was always a hermaphrodite. The possession happened later in her life and simply makes her even odder than she already had been.

She’s one of the most fascinating characters in gaming. lol

    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

      Agreed on all of this.

    • Pekola

It’s not just -thrown- on any character. It’s thrown on a sexuality liberated individual. In which case, it makes enough sense.

Moreover, objectification is used so much nowadays it just ends up sounding like a buzzword. For all intents and purposes, fictional characters in video games are MEANT to be our objects of entertainment. They’re not real. And some of them DO employ sexuality.

And sexuality is a strong aspect of this particular character. So trying to give it a negative spin doesn’t work.

  • DesmaX

    … Again, no Lock-on? geez

Oh well, the blood spatting on screen is a nice touch

    • Nitraion

Hmm they clearly showing lock-on as far i seen on video… ?

    • Solomon_Kano

There’s definitely lock-on in that video. The blue ring that popped up over enemies? That was lock-on.

  • xMCXx
  • new_tradition

Heh, I kind of think they should have just had Kaine’s costume as an in-game option and had the voting for the other options. Not surprising to me it won xD

I guess they really wanna tie in the importance of the first game to the third one. I kind of wonder how they’ll end the third one to lead into the first Drakengard game since it’s a prequel…

  • Nitraion

    That DLC gesture….
    IS that a challenge?!… O-o

  • Cry_Zero

I just dont understand why videos for japanese games are ALWAYS in 360p????? They have HD for more than 10 years now and their videos are STILL in fucking LOW QUALITY.

    • Nitraion

      Yeah that’s unfortunate really ==”
i want to see better quality too

    • MrSirFeatherFang

This video isn’t an official Square-Enix video, also it has the original Nico Nico video in the description.

  • Kobracon

Alright! Bring on the commentors who condemn games for using sex as an advertisement like in the Miqo’te costume for Lightning Returns! Hmm? Hmm? Anyone? Didn’t think so.

    • LightGenx

Minority here. Miqo’te Lightning was hot.

    • Zackasaur

      Oh, I’m still here.

    • meiam

Slight difference here, drakengard 3 actively use sex in it’s game, both story and gameplay wise (it remain to be seen if it does that well or not).

FF13-3 has pretty much no link with sex whatsoever, I mean it could have one but I really doubt there’ll be a sex scene involving lighting.

    • MrKappa

Just wanna say this but the previous two DoD and even Nier have all featured some form of sexual controversy. This game seems to have more than all 3 combined just from pre-release info though.

I imagine they do this to grab attention and garner sales but this is nothing new for these developers.

    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

      Isnt the same.:/

    • Pekola

Just because both issues arise from sexuality, doesn’t mean they have the same connotations or same problem, actually.

Sexuality in itself shouldn’t be problematic. It’s a natural part of being human.

  • yuina

Nice try, Square, but I’m still not dropping $200 on this thing. Regular edition for me.

  • tubers

So when are they porting this to VITA? xD

    • http://www.enixorigin.com/ Denis Avdic

Not sure about Vita but I do know its coming to the West according to Square Enix so baby steps?

  • Pekola

The combat seems to be more fluid than Nier. That’s definitely welcome.

I just wonder how Zero managed to steal her sister’s apostles.
