Announcement for long-awaited sequel finally on the horizon?

Atlus parent company Index Corporation registered on June 25, the domain’s registration information reveals.

A new Persona title was first confirmed in 2010, with multiple teases following afterward. Most recently we were told the game was “making progress.”

With its domain name secured, perhaps a formal announcement is finally on the horizon?

Atlus usually piggybacks on another company’s booth at TGS.

      • alangato

I thought so… like we will problably see stuff from Tri Ace and they are not on the list.

    TGS 2013 :)

for me, i just hope it’s console this time(PS4/PS Vita)

and maybe or finally Atlus US will actually put dual audio this time around.

in any case i can’t wait to hear more news!

    • Silver Citizen

It’s not up to Atlus USA to put dual audio in games, it’s up to the developers.

      • HeatPhoenix

definitely up to Atlus US. They only have to license the JP voices, that’s all.

        • Kurisu Makise

Not quite…Atlus Japan has to make sure their contracts state the Japanese voices can be used worldwide, then Atlus USA could use them. If it’s not an option (and it happens a lot, see Atelier Ayesha), then that’s just how the cookie crumbles.

          • HeatPhoenix

Then why did P4A have dual audio? Because Arc Sys wills it. Atlus US is just too cheap to get the dual audio paid for. What company would say “No” to making money? The license is not on Atlus JP, it’s on the voice acting agency that the voice actors work for. Why do you think you always see “Sotsu Agency” everytime anything Gundam related with voices of the original show is used?

            • Kurisu Makise

Arc Sys didn’t really will anything, other than do their job as a developer and make the option present. Atlus USA published the game and thus allowed for dual audio and celebrated that as a big thing. Normally when Atlus Japan makes a game, they don’t set that option up. You’re partially correct, the license is between the original Japanese developer and the talent agency/representatives for the voice actor. If they didn’t arrange a contract then the voices can’t be used by the localization company.

              • PrinceHeir

i would say it’s definitely up to them if they want to.

they could actually set it up, but Atlus US keeps refusing it since they’re sooo madly in love with their dubs.

i don’t mind their dubs(sounds good actually), but i want the original voices since i can also follow them whenever they branch off like an anime or a spin off.

i don’t want to wait years for a dub to come by, and not all dub actors reprises their roles in the subsequent games(Persona 4 Arena) so i don’t want that.

why can’t they offer it as a DLC? you would think all these BS surrounding costumes and map packs are okay, but why not voices as well?

and they STILL haven’t answered why they won’t include it, it’s always the bullshit “we try to make it happen in the future” but there is no signs of that happening.

Catherine was actually the PERFECT candidate for them to put it in, since it’s their first console game.

but alas they blew it, they didn’t even put a reversible cover. you would think two catherines in the game they would put both on the cover or at least reversible?

at least Deep Silver was kind enough to put a reversible cover.

and Persona 4 Arena dual audio is definitely from Arc System Works, since if you check the options it’s EXACTLY the same as Blazblue series, even the selectable subs to japanese it’s also in Blazblue.

Dragon’s Crown is also dual audio, but that’s because all of Vanillaware games include it.

Persona 4 Golden wasn’t dual audio, heck even the blu ray anime that was localize here didn’t even include a JPN audio, which is quite RARE since most of the anime’s that come here have always has at least a JPN audio.

im actually glad their localizations have only been Atlus JPN games, if they touched other games like Danganronpa, Atelier expect no dual audio at all.

and im still pissed we didn’t get Eternal Punishment remake on PSP. but we had Game of Thrones(lol no offense)

in any case im still buying their games, it’s just a shame they’re still pulling this BS. at least if Xseed doesn’t include dual audio(which is rare) they actually acknowledge it and mention it to the people.

then again im taking a japanese lanaguae course this fall and i plan on finishing it in 2-3 years. so i don’t have to put up with this bullshit.

                • Kurisu Makise

The thing you all need to realize, is Atlus doesn’t have any on-hand programmers to setup those things, so it’s not really up to Atlus USA to enable dual audio; If the developer puts in the work, they’ll get it done. Now does that mean Atlus USA can’t request said work to be done? (Eh they probably can, no guarantees it’ll be possible though)

As I said for Arc Sys, they just had the system ready to do so, so why not? Likewise Vanillaware also setup the system to do so (but was dual audio in Odin Sphere and the other Atlus published Vanillaware games?).

As for the Blu-rays, the reason the japanese audio wasn’t on there is reverse importing. In fact, that’s probably what Atlus USA was afraid of in the past too, hence why P4A got region locked (which sucks).

                  • PrinceHeir

if Atlus US doesn’t really have any programmers, why is it that NIS games have always been dual audio?

i would actually say NIS is much more niche in games(not anime, they have godly anime localization team) than atlus

tbh i don’t really think they even bother requesting it at all.

it seems like they prefer operating on their own way, which is a shame since they’re only a US branch of the original Atlus HQ in japan.

yes Odin Sphere was definitely dual audio, read grimgrimoire is also dual audio so there’s that.

tbh i don’t think alot of japanese prefer importing stuff in the US than buying on their own turf.

most of the time, almost all of the goodies you get from the Limited Edition are strip away in the US release.

heck i think Sentai just did a disc case and that’s it, no special slip case or any artbook or OST.

and i think that’s just an excuse not to put audio to it by Atlus US. of course im not gonna debate all this conspiracy theories so im just gonna leave it that.

also if they think importing is a problem, then why not lower their prices in japan?

seriously why not offer a basic standard disc and case release only?

then can’t, because they prefer selling it overprice in japan and since many people love Persona there, they would actually get away with it.

and since the price is much “cheaper” overseas, they would prefer cutting that option so the japanese people have no choice but to buy their overprice BD’s.

don’t get me wrong, i’ve seen alot of JPN BD’s and they have godly animation and amazing sound quality.

but the price is just fucked up(talking about $200+ on ONE series alone if you want to collect it)

and im sorry if i sounded angry towards you, im glad you weren’t offended. i wasn’t directing this to you.

im just frustrated with Atlus US BS excuses over the years.

                    • Kurisu Makise

Yeah no worries, I know you better than that <3 You're absolutely right to be angry though. Most likely, Atlus USA just doesn't request it (or rather fork up the money for it haha), unless it's setup by the developer by default. If it's going to cost extra, they probably won't do it. Whereas NISA uses that as a sales point so they'll pay it every time (unless licensing issues). As for the Japan issues, they won't lower their prices so NA fans will suffer on the Blu-ray front unless we get it months upon months later Q.Q This doesn't deter me as much from those releases though but now we're just way off our base (thanks for warning me about P4 The Animation's Blu-ray, too not that I mind but I hear the animation isn't that good anyway).

                    • PrinceHeir

                      thanks Kurisu!

sometimes i am negative too much, so i’m really sorry for acting like an asshole.

yeah, but i’m over with it. i guess i really need to learn the language, which is also good since it’ll help me communicate people in japan as well.

do you know japanese as well? :D

yeah NIS is amazing, i don’t know how do they do it XD

yeah it’s a shame the prices there are overprice as hell, if they can make a cheaper option why not?

or even better, just lower the price.

i don’t think i’ve seen an anime BD or DVD that has sold more than million copies in one month(Eva movies were close, but they were 500k-600k)

the animation wasn’t good? i think it look fine, but i haven’t watched it yet aside from a few snippets.

                      and i haven’t even played P4 XD

i have P4 PS2 and P4 Golden sitting there doing nothing XD

so i might play it this summer, but i also need to finish Digital Devil Saga 2!!!

oh well i just hope Atlus US does consider dual audio for next gen.

even if it’s DLC im willing to pay it upfront Day 1!!

                    • Kurisu Makise

So long as people are willing to pay it, going the DLC route doesn’t seem bad at all. As for my Japanese, not at a good enough level to do much. However I’m aiming to change that as it’ll be my major going forward. First I’ve got to clear up the gen ed credits which I’ll be doing this year before transferring into a Uni to major in Japanese and minor in Communications. Then give me four years and I’ll help on localization, which should be what…Persona 6 most likely =p?!

  • MasterSensei

If they make Minato return as a character in this I will shed tears of blood in happiness because I already ran out of normal tears during the end of Persona 3…

    • DongT

i’d love to see him come back as some almighty omnipotent being

  • RyoonZ

    It’s happening!!!

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    fuck yeah!!!

  • Archvile

    Time to get hyped!

  • TetsuyaHikari

First PV for Persona 5 shown at TGS this year? You bet.

    Confirmed for PS4? Absolutely.

    • Kurisu Makise

PS4 eh? Sounds more likely for PS3/PS Vita than PS4 my friend. Either way, TGS is coming. I think it’d be neat if it showed up a little earlier than TGS like say Gamescom but that’s not going to happen so 1 more month to wait =(

      • TetsuyaHikari

Actually, if it was cross-anything, it would be more likely to have a PS3/PS4 release. They would be silly to not release it on PS4 though. It’s doubtful that it will come out by the end of the year, so might as well put it on PS4.

Besides, come on… It’s the latest Persona game, lol. Surely they realize how this will help boost PS4 sales :P

        • Nasuno

you may be forgetting that this is the same company that released persona 4 on ps2 two years after the ps3 came out. they do whatever they want when it comes to consoles.

however i do agree it would be cool on ps4. we’ll see though wont we.

          • TetsuyaHikari

Well, Sony said they still want to support the PS3 after the PS4 is out, which seems to be traditional for them, even back during the PS1 days, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it did come out on PS3.

        • Kurisu Makise

Atlus cares not one bit about boosting PS4 sales. They just care about pleasing their base and growing said base. So unless Sony’s forking up some money, PS3/PS4 definitely doesn’t sound likely. They’ve also been working on this for awhile too. Whereas I suggested cross PS3/PSVita because P4G is the highest selling game in Japan on Vita and did way more than half the original’s sales in Japan alone, it’d be lost money.

          • TetsuyaHikari

Just because they don’t care about boosting PS4 sales (which sounds odd anyway since they will be putting games on there later), doesn’t mean they won’t do it. Also, it doesn’t matter how long they have been working on it either. Companies were probably already developing PS4 games back in 2010 anyway.

Point is, they could have started on PS3, but switched over to PS4 instead. After all, Final Fantasy XIII was originally going to be on PS2, but they switched to PS3 during production. Also, I’m well aware of P4G’s sales figures.

You may be right about “lost money”, but you seem to forget that companies have always made some sort of decision at one point or another which caused them to lose money, but they did it anyway. Their decision doesn’t have to make sense to us. They could release the game and make it a PC exclusive if they wanted.

So yeah, only time will tell, but don’t think anything is set in stone just yet.

        • HeatPhoenix

Actually, P5 is probably not gonna boost a thing. Check out P4 sales.

          • TetsuyaHikari

Check out P4 Golden sales. Also, I thought we had an agreement? You stay out of my way, I stay out of yours.

            • HeatPhoenix

Not picking a fight or anything, man. Don’t worry. All I’m sayïng is that P4 Golden sold pretty disgustingly, actually nor did it boost Vita sales much. Or at least, not enough. Not that one single ever could.

  • whiteferrero

    why ps4? it;s gonna be ps3. or ps3/ps4.

  • Bryce Blalex Douglas

My guess, we’ll hear something at TGS don’t really mind which gen it comes for since I’ll have both.

  • Luiz Ricardo

Only for iOS! Oops wrong company.

  • Micheal Scott

    The long awaited P5 XD

  • Zero

I hope they reveal it at TGS.

As for possible platforms? I’d be fine with current generation. In fact, if it was announced for next generation consoles, I would be a tad surprised.

Don’t hate me for this – I hope they don’t announce it exclusively for portables. I have nothing against portables, but we need more HD JRPGs on consoles.

I wouldn’t mind if it was released on both. In fact, I think Cross play for the PS3 or PS4 version with the Vita would be great.

Buy P5 on PS3 or PS4 and get the Vita version. That would be very nice.

    • Akimitsu

Yeah, I have nothing against portables either, despite not owning any for the past two gens, but I agree that we need more HD JRPGs. I would love to see Persona 5 on PS3 or PS4 even.

    • Kurisu Makise

What, is Vita not HD enough for you guys xD? Though in all honesty, I doubt it’d be Cross Buy but Cross Save between Console and Handheld would probably work (see FFX/FFX-2 HD).

      • Zero

I love the visuals on the Vita. I’m sure a new Persona game would look terrific on the Vita.

At the same time, I start to imagine what Persona 5 would look like on consoles, with HD visuals and sound, without disc space limitations. I feel like the series could take another step and evolve this way. It’s exciting to think about.

I also remember my past. Where I played so many great JRPGs on consoles. This generation has not been the same. You really can’t make the comparison. It’s not that we only had bad JRPGs (on consoles) this generation, it’s about having less. Way less. (We did have some good ones on consoles this gen. Just wanted to make that clear.)

I remember playing the Snes, the PS1, the PS2. The great library of not only Japanese Role Playing games, but Japanese games in general. I miss that, I want that back, badly.

I suppose that does make me a little biased here. It’s like I said above. I would gladly welcome Persona 5 on portables.

I’d prefer it be on consoles, better yet, it would be great if it was on both. Everyone wins that way. Which is why I suggested Cross Play above. =)

        • Kurisu Makise

Nothing wrong with your bias, it really has been bad this gen. A shift in focus for Japan (Console->Handheld) and the tides changing in terms of development expertise (favouring the West), means a lot less of what you love has shown up on your TV. Especially if you can count the amount of mainline Final Fantasy’s released on consoles this generation with one hand…

However, I don’t want anyone to get too excited when Atlus has been mostly on handhelds, with the mainline Shin Megami appearing on 3DS and all Persona games on PSP/PSVita thus far, signs just don’t look promising.

          • Zero

True enough. I just figured Catherine was a test game to prepare for the next Persona game.

I’m going to remain optimistic. ^^

            • Bigabu Beaze

That’d be cool. I would love a new persona game on vita.

    • Nitraion

Yeah i kinda miss Persona game on console….

    • Tenshiken

P5 has most defiantly been in development longer than Atlus has even had PS4 dev kits. Also, given Atlus’s releases on past Persona titles, they want to be extremely comfortable with the platform before they release a Persona game on it. P5 is almost guaranteed a current gen game.
(Atlus will probably relase P5 portable later on Vita like it has done in the past as well)

  • Namekaze_Minato

Iam torn…I want this to go next gen so they could bring out the best in the game…but I also want it to go multi-platform so all gamers could get to enjoy the game and raise sales figures for ATLUS; enough to pull ATLUS away from shitty parent companies and go independent!

  • articuzwolf

I’m happy but hope this isn’t just a farce or desperate measure from Atlus’s parent company (Index) to get sponsors with nothing related to the game has been done

  • ddsfan2

I’ll believe it when I see more info about the game, especially given Index’s precarious financial situation. Regardless, it is encouraging to hear that the game actually exists in some form or another.

  • Impressionnant

Wouldn’t be surprised to see this as multi-plat. Index could use the money.

    • EX+

If this would be available on more than just PS4, I suspect PS3 and PSVita as well. That’s where Persona has the most chance.

  • Shane Guidaboni

Sequel? What makes anyone think this is going to be a sequel to any Persona game? It’s likely going to be a standalone title.

  • Kobracon

Picked a good year to think about going to TGS :D

Still really worried about Index’s situation though…
