After five years of development and two non-existent prequels.

Strength of the Sword, first announced for PlayStation 3 at the Game Developers Conference in 2009, will launch for PlayStation Network in Europe after five years of development on June 5, developer Ivent Games has announced.

A U.S. release will follow, but a release date has not been set, Ivent has told Gematsu.

The developer-described “crazy hard” sword combat game is now called Strength of the Sword 3, making it the first installment labeled as the third in a non-existent series.

Ivent explains: “We’re NEVER going to make sequels to our games. We want to take up different challenges each time around. And getting stuck on a single series doesn’t fit into it. So… we’ll be finishing all of our ‘trilogies’ right off the bat. Like, for Strength of the Sword 3… If we want to revisit the project, we much rather do it through DLC, so that we can just build on it instead of redoing it. Why go through all the boring things again-like tutorials and stuff; when we can just give the players that liked it more of the exciting content like Bosses, Levels, Weapons and stuff.”

In Strength of the Sword 3, players will control a “blade-wielding, magic-powered war machine from the heavens” and do battle with the Dark Mechanism and his minions. Enemies can analyze and adapt to a player’s gameplay style and tactics through a “group AI” system. According to Ivent, the game focuses less on story, and more on giving the player a “challenging game.”

I wonder how one might find an explanation for this being the third game in a non-existent series.

      Maybe by reading the article?

Meanie. I was running late for my class and only skimmed through the contents. But man, that is an awfully odd reason to name your game that way (but it got my attention though, so maybe that’s what really matters?)

Interesting. Love the art-direction. Still, attacks seem to be a bit “light” besides those slow-mo/jump attacks, like they’re missing “impact.” Maybe not; still, game looks really fun!
