Drakengard 3: Meet the Utautai sister Five

For the sake of her growth, you may touch.

New details and screenshots on Drakengard 3 have come out of Square Enix.

As previously detailed, the game stars Zero, an Utautai gifted with the ability to manipulate magic through song. She has a hostile relationship with her sister One, also an Utautai. Zero’s goal is to kill all of the Utautai, but One strives to bring peace to the world.

It is unknown where Utautai come from, but they’re dispatched from “Churches” in each nation. All Utautai are women and given number names, rather than real ones. We’ve met two, up until now. Today, we meet Five.

Five (pictured) is quoted as saying “Please, touch my breasts… it’s good for their growth.” She is the Utautai who governs the water kingdom and one of six sisters. She has great confidence and greed, and relentless cravings, but the moment she obtains what she desires, her interest is lost. She speaks slovenly and loves to allude her sex life. Her appetite knows no bounds.

View screenshots of Five, the churches, the game world, and more at the gallery. Drakengard 3 is due out in Japan on October 31.

I kinda see some improvement in graphic.

Glad to see another eccentric character. It’s Drakengard after all.

  • Raiyu

Glad to see the graphics look a little more tolerable.

Though the fact that the gameplay screens aren’t 720p kinda give me a bad feeling.

Really hoping this gets localized. C’mon Square Enix.

I think I’m just happy the graphics got updated, step in the right direction. The new plot details are pretty interesting, minus the extremely heavy overtones thing, but this is clearly that type of game so might as well have fun with it. The localization thing is a worry. How did we get to these dark days where we have to hope Square localizes something? So much sadness.

Same here. They certainly improved which makes me quite happy. Wouldn’t give the cinematics’ rez much thought. Maybe they’re presented in 21:9 (2.35:1) AR.

With strong sexual themes, will this be released in USA and Europe?

    • https://twitter.com/GaleGlory89 KiQun

      It may got “type-0-ed”

Sexual theme with hot ladies other than Ms Lightning is not guaranteed.

      • LordKaiser

        yup… :(

I’d be surprised if any publisher even shows interest in localizing it. ESRB certainly won’t be amused unless the localizing publisher accepts an “M” rating, which I expect anyways due to stylized bloody violence.
With an M rating the game should pass American censorship unscathed. Shouldn’t be an issue with PEGI (EU) either.

The gaming industry never got tired of milking that golden cow… but I guess it can’t be helped, sex does sell after all…

By the way, that is one beautiful artwork (Caim looks so badass.)

    • https://twitter.com/GaleGlory89 KiQun

I kinda prefer daddy Nier to bishounen Nier.

Caim is the best silent MC.

      • Mar Mar

        I miss Caveman Nier.

This artwork reminds me of the Last Story. In fact, the art style is the same, same artist hired for Dgard 3 I guess, awesome. The brown haired dude looks just like Zael with shorter hair and the person on the right looks like Yurick.

      • PrinceHeir

ahaha did you just read my mind XD

agree it really reminds me of The Last Story art!!

i do wonder why they didn’t name Nier as a Drag-on Dragoon main title XD

    • Budgiecat

      The last Story 2

    • AnimusVox

      Young Nier: I want a dragon too ;A;

    • SaveTheDay

Thx for the artwork in big size, was looking for it :)

      • bloodiOS

It’s in the gallery. The link is in the article.

SO glad to see the improvement in the graphics. The story details are really interesting as well. I like how Zero is the main character but she seems more like a villain after this new info. I’m curious to see where they go with this. Five…well I like her overall design like appearance and stuff. Plus that giant cross/sword is cool. I’ll reserve judgement of the other stuff when we know more. But I do really hope this gets localized. It’d be a shame to miss out on it.

  • MrKappa

Is it me or is everyone women in this game a huge ****? I don’t think this game has much of a chance to be localized with all these super sexual women with how the US is.

    • Budgiecat

      US had:

      Dragon Age
      Mass Effect
      Fear Effect
      Leisure Suit Larry
      Heavy Rain
      God of War
      Dante’s Inferno
      Mortal Kombat
      Killer Instinct
      BMX XXX
      Red Dead Redemption
      Duke Nukem Forever

I think this will fit in just fine…

      • LordKaiser

        You gives hope.

      • MrKappa

All of these are American games which seem to get a strange pass while Japanese games get crapped on if they do the same thing.

        • Budgiecat

Japanese games that did it that didn’t get crapped on for it:

          Yakuza 1,2,3,4,Dead Souls
          Shadows of the Damned
          Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown
          Tekken Tag Tournament 2
          No More Heroes 1 & 2
          Dynasty Warriors 7,8
          Haunting Ground
          Dragon Quest VIII
          Castlevania Judgement
          Project X Zone

          • Nitraion

            Hmm you forgot DOA 5

            • karmacoma

Or the entire franchise. Also Bayonetta and Lollipop Chainsaw.

              • Budgiecat

Nope. Bayonetta Ive seen get ******* on because they don’t like the sexual like prancing around the main character does, the fact that she resembled Sarah Palin, and some even go as far as saying she’s a tranny.
Lollipop Chainsaw got a lot of flack for its sexualization and boldness of it.

I expect to see a lot of Killer is Dead haters too due to the Gigalo glasses

            • Budgiecat

No I didnt. DoA has it’s fair share of Western haters purposely pointing out that fact that many of the girls are underage and exploited

      • Nice Boat
    • Pekola

The US really has a lot of issues with sexuality. Specially when it comes to women.

Hopefully that doesn’t stop this game from coming here (preferably uncensored)

If anything, the controversial nature of the game could help it sell. If they do some marketing like they did with Nier, they could sell a fair amount of copies.

  • Ace

    Well then…

  • LordKaiser
    • PrinceHeir

      hmm O__O

Due to the suggestion by Yoko Taro, there is currently a petition for the international localization of Drag-on Dragoon 3 as Drakengard 3 in order to show our overall interest and the international demand for the title.

Any fans of Drag-on Dragoon/Drakengard, NieR or simply with an interest in the title, I ask of you to please sign it and share it around:

For further methods of showing interest (Twitter, e-mails to Square-Enix) please see our base topic on GameFAQs for all current details and pre-written tweets thus so far:

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

      I signed the petition. =)

    • LordKaiser

Add that we want it uncensored with M rating. I will sign it.

      • http://crimsonsky.stalkinginsanity.com/ Enetirnel

I can’t believe I forgot to put that back into the request when I was redoing the formatting. Sorry about that!

I’ve added it in that we request that if localized that it is uncensored, or if it needs to be censored – then to the degree of the previously released titles within the series to attempt to get a classification rating similar to the CERO one once the CERO rating has been confirmed and announced as the classification rating is essentially out of Square-Enix’s hands and the previous games (and have included an example of a spot where they were actually censored) were not censored that badly so if it’s done to the same degree, I believe that would be alright given the series history.

        • Teh Blasterz

It should be mentioned that in almost all cases, the CERO equilvalent of an AO (Z) rating is still the equilvalent of an M rating in the ERSB terms. Z ratings are typically given to games with large amounts of violent content, hence why Killer is Dead, which is coming out in the west with an M rating, has a Z rating. Lolipop Chainsaw was also given a Z rating. No More Heroes has a D rating, but only because the Eastern release is censored. Even games like Infamous have Z ratings because you can attack civilains. A lot of western games get Z ratings, and still have to censor themselves just to be rated at all, such as the God of War franchise.

Even if CERO gave Drakengard 3 a Z rating, chances are it could easily be released in the west unscathed, a Z rating is pretty much the equilvalent of a hard M rating in ERSB terms. Any sexual content that would get a game a Z rating is typically not rated at all (and not sold at all because the console manufacterurs, even over in Japan, wouldn’t allow a game to be sold with such explicit sexual content), whereas such content would get an AO under ERSB (and not get sold in the west as well because of console manufacterur and retail shenanigans). So basically, ERSB M = CERO D,Z ERSB AO = CERO not rated

TLDR: If Drakengard 3 gets a Z rating, don’t panic and think it’ll have to be censored to get an M in the rest, it’s pretty much a guarantee it got a Z because of the violence.
