Join the beta test now.

Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes Online, first launched on Wii, then on Wii U, is coming to PC in Japan.

The online Dragon Quest will launch or PC on September 26. Both the packaged and retail versions will cost 3,990 yen and include a 20-day free trial (save for Wii and Wii U players, who will instead get in-game items). A “Special Pack” edition, which includes a Dragon Quest edition Square Enix security token, Dragon Quest X game controller for PC, monster illustration book, world map, and a redeem code for an in-game item, will cost 9,800 yen.

Simultaneously with the announcement, Square Enix has kicked off a beta test. To participate, you should download the benchmark software available here. If your system can handle it, you’ll see a button to apply for the beta in the results screen. From there, you can download and install the game.

That was easily the best benchmark test I have ever seen.

    • Fuepepe

This comment prompted me to download it and I wholeheartedly agree.

Awesome! I sure hope they consider localizing it now.

  • bloodiOS

I’m just curious here but why doesn’t Square Enix consider releasing Dragon Quest titles on other home consoles anymore? I remember Dragon Quest VIII was quite a huge success so it’s not like the demand isn’t there.

    • DarthBrian

      Because they’re lazy bastards.

    • $18114340

      Because they’re Square Enix.

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I’m going to guess they signed a time exclusive of some sorts with Nintendo. The next few Dragon Quest games will be exclusive to Nintendo consoles, or something like that. That’s my best guess.

    • demian o filho do demo

They have always published DQ on the most popular platform in Japan. That’s why

    • Solomon_Kano

Nintendo seems to have established some sort of deal with them. Either that, or Yuji Horii just really likes working with them.

DQ VIII ended up doing around 5 mil globally and IX did about 6 mil globally (far as the numbers I can find show, anyway), so there was a sizable increase in the move, but not the kind that would make them swear off home consoles. So I’m thinking Nintendo’s got a deal with them.

    • Farid Belkacemi

DQ VIII was on the best selling hardware back then (PS2), the same goes for DQ IX (DS) and DQ X (Wii).

    • kanjitech88

Actually, Dragon Quest titles have always been released on the most popular/highest selling systems of it’s generation. Enix has always been firm on that. That’s why it was on the NES and SNES but skipped the N64 in favor of the PSone and PS2. Even when putting Dragon Quest on the handhelds, they always chose the higher selling system. Even when on the PlayStation consoles, the handheld releases continued on Nintendo handhelds.

      • bloodiOS

Well, they chose to make this one a multiplatform project so I wonder why they chose the Wii U, a struggling system, instead of the PS3. Certainly Square Enix would stand to gain more profits if this were also released on the PS3…

In any case, if that’s how Square Enix chose to do things then I would expect the next installment to be a PS4 title.

        • kanjitech88

Possibly, but right now I’m sure Square Enix is more focused getting, at the very least, Final Fantasy XIV up and running on the PS3 rather then putting Dragon Quest X on it.

As for the next title, DQXI, it’s up in the air. Spin-offs aside, DQ main titles usually release well into the then current generation, more than likely close to the generations end. DQ IV was released on the NES/Famicom even when the next gen was out. DQVI and beyond were the same way.

          • bloodiOS

With them being different teams, I don’t see why they couldn’t have done it already. Beside, low specs as it is, the Wii U is still a next-gen console. If they really want to stick with this gen, that would mean sticking with the PS3.

        • Farid Belkacemi

In short, they chose the Wii U because Wii :p And I don’t think it’s a good idea to mix DQ X and FF XIV on the same platform.

    • xMCXx

Dragon Quest VIII was probably the best of the bunch. :D

OK, now that that’s out of the way: please localize this on *something*.

  • LastBoss

    Put it on the Vita?

    • LastBoss

I stated this, simply cause it would be great to have this game on the go, and it looks like we probably won’t get PSO2.

      No hate

      • dior

who cares about autistic downvoters? It would be great on Vita, these faggots are asspained it isn’t being localized. I just realized 99% of the comments on this site are “hurr durr pl0x localize bc0x i am 2 poor xDD”.

        • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

What’s wrong with people asking for localization? I don’t have the time to learn Japanese. I sure wish I did. I think many others posting on this site are in the exact same position.

I don’t think it has much to do with being poor. I know for a fact that many people who post here do import games.

          I’ve imported stuff before too.

Sometimes it’s just for the special edition stuff, sometimes I don’t mind not fully understanding it, it might also be for a friend.

For the record – We do have a few users posting here that can read and understand Japanese.

Which is great! I think that’s really cool. I also understand those who wait and wish to purchase the localized version.

With that said. I plan to try out the Japanese PC version. We might get luck and get one of those patches I was talking about.

          • Chogokin

Just a heads up, the game is IP locked for Japan only.

            • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

That’s why I can’t seem to download the client? That sucks. =/

              • Kobracon

You can download it no prob. After you get the score and the fanfare, you click on the top right green button. It brings you to the SE site to register and then to the DQX site when you log in.

There should be a big button in the middle with 4 steps on it. The download you want is on the 3rd step, which is the big NVIDIA logo. It brings you to a DQX-NVidia page where you download the 1GB client.

                • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Thanks for the info. I didn’t have much time to mess with it. I tried to login with my SE account I’ve had for years now and it didn’t work. I guess I need to register for a JPN account.

            • Kobracon

Confirmed. You can play the offline mode just fine though. Its a prologue story. Its the Yellow option on the bottom left of the browser.

        • Warboss Aohd

so apparently someone downvotes because they are autistic? Really?

  • Solomon_Kano

    Now come west!

  • Kobracon

I am SO in! Let’s hope my com passes that benchmark test

EDIT: That was quite possibly the cutest and most creative Benchmark test I have ever seen!

    • xMCXx

      Yeah, pretty funny. ^^
Though, my Japanese is not good enough and my technical understanding is as bad, so I don’t really know what to do with it. xD

      • Kobracon

there should be a fanfare after the video. A button on the top right should light up and bring you to the SE registration site to get the downloader. I scored about 4800 on the highest setting but 2333 should be more than enough. (The number is what they called the “Score” btw, its how your PC performed running the game.

        • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I scored in the 8000’s on 1080p. I won’t have any issues playing this. I just need to modify a few things so I can take part in the beta it seems.

I might have scored better if I closed my browser and stuff, I didn’t really pay attention to what else I had running. xD

          • Kobracon

Yeah my browser was running too. It didn’t seem like much is needed for the game to run super smooth. I was amazed at how smooth it was. 8000 sounds like it ran like butter XD

        • xMCXx

Yeah, I used my shitty laptop. xD
I didn’t want to register, anyway, just wanted to see what this is about.^^

  • Farid Belkacemi

Still waiting for the Wii U version in USA/Europe… Do it Square Enix !

  • PrinceHeir

    great :D

    PS4 version as well? XD

  • Warboss Aohd

i wonder if dis will effect PC gamin’ in Japan? Probably not, but wishful thinkin’.

  • almostautumn

Man— I’d so rather this than FF14. The art-style is just so much fun here.

  • Elvick

I’d consider playing it if they put it on PS4 as well. May as well, now that it’s coming to PC too.

  • Hating Ass Nigga

Would rather have DQ7 and Terry Wonderland

  • Chestnut Bowl

Probably a good decision on their part. I’ll just this to fill the time between FF XIV beta test weekends.

  • http://kizi-yepi.kizi2.com/ kiziyepi

How good this article is! I like it. I will share with my friends.
I hope that many people also have hobby the same as me.
Thanks for giving me the useful information.

  • Akira_Tenshi

My score on this benchmark is much lower than my score for the FF XIV ARR benchmark. This makes no sense, FF XIV is a far more demanding game.
