New game engine, over 1,200 cars, 33 locations.

Gran Turismo 6, the latest in Sony’s hit racing franchise, is coming to PlayStation 3 this holiday season, according to details from an alleged Sony press release published before embargo on website iAfrica.

Games website CVG claims the published information is “geniune,” but the game won’t be officially announced until a live event later today. Which is why we’re dubbing it a rumor for now.

Here’s what you can look forward to. Below is according to the press release, according to iAfrica.

The game will boast a new “compact game engine” promised to “improve operation and increase the flexibility” to expand the racer with download content. It will also feature smartphone and tablet connectivity for social and community features.

All of the cars and tracks from Gran Turismo 5 are in Gran Turismo 6, but will add “notable additions” to its lineup of “historic cars, road cars, and the latest race cars,” bringing the total to 1,200 at launch, with more to come via download content.

Players wil be able to customize their cars with “several thousand aerodynamic parts and custom wheels” for “almost all cars.”

One of seven new locations in the racer is UK’s Silverstone Circuit, making the total number of locations 33, with 71 different layouts, 19 of them being new. Additional tracks will, again, be made available post-launch via download content.

“It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo,” said Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi. “Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We’re pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform.”

I had hope for GT Vita :(

Anyway, I don’t think we will see a PS4 GT title for a while.

  • uhawww

I think this release was proven bogus.
Many are still waiting for official word.

  • Elvick

First, you can’t have a rumor about a game being announced. It’s either an announcement (thus not a rumor) or it’s a rumor.

Second… well, I guess that’s the only point I had.

It would have helped had you, you know… Read the entire article.

“Games website CVG claims the published information is “geniune,” but the game won’t be officially announced until a live event later today. Which is why we’re dubbing it a rumor for now.”

It would have helped if you, you know, understood my point.

There is no announced game, until it’s announced. Therefore, it remains a rumor.

A proper title would have been, “Rumor: GT6 to be announced later today”.

You can’t have a rumor about a game being announced like it’s worded in the title. Because that would be an announcement, that either has happened (thus isn’t a rumor) or hasn’t (thus isn’t an announcement).

        • TetsuyaHikari

Actually, I didn’t miss your point at all. It was your own fault for not wording it properly. You were simply concerned about the usage of the grammar in the title more than you were about the content of said article.

Regardless, your point is moot now anyway since it has been announced AND confirmed.

If this is true then sony are the dumpest company in the world
releasing this for ps3 and not for ps4 and on top of that the same period of ps4 release.
Well good luck selling ps4 u morons.

    • bloodiOS

They’ll only be morons if they think that the PS4 can’t sell without Gran Turismo 6. Please, this game was intended for the PS3 since day one, so the textures, the models and other features would have to be thoroughly repolished as not to waste the PS4’s significantly more powerful specs. So chances are that Polyphony Digital is probably going to be releasing a vastly enhanced version of the game once they’re satisfied with the beautification and they’re probably doing that as we speak.

      • MosquitoLemon

        I couldn’t agree more.

  • Jerry Jcwgpii

Nice, the PS4 got DriveClub and the PS3 GT6.
So it´s fine guys, don´t be jackasses.

  • bloodiOS

If it is indeed real, I have a few things to say. Goddamn stick to 720p and realize that 4xMSAA isn’t compatible with the PS3 so please use MLAA or some custom AA instead.

4xMSAA and QAA for 1280x1080p probably sit among the poorest choices ever made for a PS3 game.

Also, here’s hoping that non-premium cars are more detailed and sound FX are much more refined now.

All sequels can be boiled down to the fact that its the same game with just a few more additions

  • Michael Garling

This is all confirmed now, at the Silverstone event.

  • TetsuyaHikari

PS3? Surely not. That would be a silly idea if they decided to go that route. This should definitely be a PS4 launch title.
