Anyone else bummed at the trophy icons for Soul Sacrifice? Lots of duplicates and in general kind of boring. Shame considering the awesome art direction of the game itself. ):

    Loving the game though. :3

    • Skerj

Oddly enough I couldn’t tell the difference between those and the ones from Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen when checking my profile. I just happen to be rather taken by both games at the moment.

I’m just glad I stopped playing the demo for Soul Sacrifice, I was afraid I might get tired of it.

  • bloodiOS

Anyone here feeling like applying for the PlayStaiton credit card in order get the $199.99 3G VITA bundle?

    http://bit.ly/YtV4pp

    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

Good thing I took advantage of Amazon’s black friday event last year

  • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

Soul Sacrifice is really good, I didn’t really bother with it until I saw a video review and was able to see it in action. The demo wasn’t really enough for me but as soon as I saw Gametrailers video review whilst ignoring the score I bought it

This, Ragnarok Odyssey and God Eater (never played Valhalla Knights) amongst others just goes to show that not having Monster Hunter isn’t a big deal

    • Haku_Luvs_You

its not bad, but seriously how many jack o lanterns do I need to fight?!

      • Elvick

Nearly every game, ever created, reuses enemies at some point.

I don’t see why people have a problem with it. Plus, the minor enemies multiple versions are kind of awesome. Especially the rats.

        • Haku_Luvs_You

But not every game is purely focused on fighting monsters. I don’t really care if Final Fantasy has the same enemies that’s not why I bought it. I was told this was a game about hunting monsters, and that’s what I want. The variety just isn’t there for the most part.

          • Elvick

I can see why some would have an issue with it. I don’t think it matters for the minions though. They’re not the focus, the focus is bosses. The missions without bosses, feel more like a way to get easy items and experience.

And I think the elemental variations work fine in spicing that up enough.

And I think there are enough boss variety though. Especially since it’s their first game.

I would like more in SS2 though of course. And some verticle design in the levels. With hills and things. Then they could have super huge bosses, that you can have half of your team attacking the feet and the other on a higher part of the stage attacking his head. Could even have a medium section so you could attack his waist.

            • Haku_Luvs_You

              That would be awesome!

    • Raiyu

Really wish I had a Vita…:( Hopefully there is a price drop after E3. I’m not holding out for one though.

      • Budgiecat

Vita should of had PS2 Classics support imo.

        • Raiyu

It really should, it would be a major selling point if it could play PS2 games.

    • Kefkiroth

Monster Hunter not being on Vita isn’t a big deal?

Fun-wise, I agree. I loved GEB for PSP, and from what I played of the demo, I’ll definitely enjoy Soul Sacrifice (not delivered to me yet). Haven’t tried RO yet (I’m waiting for Ace). REALLY hyped for GE2 (I hope it gets localized so bad).

Sales-wise, debatable. Soul Sacrifice did well in Japan, but not enough to shrug off the bad stigma the Vita usually has of having “no games” (even though that is very untrue). The lower-than-expected ratings from Western reviewers also doesn’t help even though I hear most gamers who have it enjoying it much more than them. If a Monster Hunter went on Vita (perhaps after the exclusivity contract ends in 2014) and dominated the sales chart, I’d imagine it would give people a new view of it.

      • sherimae1324

i think that stigma of “vita has no games” wont dissappear even if the vita has a lot of new ip games or ports what i think is it needs big shot game franchises like gta, gow, gt, exclusive metal gear, mass effect and etc. because people expect this games to come out to the vita because sony endorsed it as console experience on the go.

so people expect of more this type of games on the vita which as of now is currently lacking… but we know this titles this come eventually.. besides we already have
uncharted, wipeout, lbp, sly, mlb from sony
and AC, nfs, fifa, and uhhhh that cod from 3rd parties
hopefully and i know more games will come from this big Publishers in e3 and beyond ^_^

long live the ps vita! ^_^

      • RedWolfe

At least to put in perspective, the Monster Hunter series has never gotten rave reviews or enjoyed the same success in the West as it has in Japan, either

Like you stated, many gamer outside the “professional” reviewer sector have been enjoying it in their own right and though it doesn’t have the brand recognition, like Monster Hunter, hopefully it will be able to live off of word of mouth.

I don’t have a Vita yet but I’d but based on what I’ve seen and heard, I’d be interested in picking it up, myself, regardless of the reviews.

    • MosquitoLemon

Except for here where everyone and their mother owns and plays monster hunter nonstop. Just get a 3DS and enjoy everything.

    • Budgiecat

Not having a localized Earth Seeker, Nano Driver and Frontier Gate: Boost is a big deal……

  • bloodiOS

Currently playing Tomb Raider and found myself really enjoying it. I’m really glad that I decided to spend my $10 credit and downloaded the bundle when it was on sale last week. I almost felt guilty, getting the game for only $20 and also got Quantum Conundrum for free.

Oh man, it’s so fun dying in this game. Love it!

    • RedWolfe

“Oh man, it’s so fun dying in this game.”

This statement sounds oddly twisted but it’s something I do find myself exploring in many games.

Ever since Resident Evil, where they actually effort into the “death scene”, I’ve actually died on purpose in games like Resident Evil, Dead Space, Silent Hill, anything with QTEs, and most recently Tomb Raider just to see what happens.

The odd thing is that they’re supposed to serve as a deterrent and make you NOT want to die but my curiosity usually gets the better of me (at least the first time around). It’s sick but I can’t help it lol.

    • HanPaul

      Great buy!
      I just finished it myself.

      Lara’s dumb as nails.

  • Tac-Mex

So it looks like ps4 will block used games after all:

    http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/pre-owned-games-block-on-ps4-is-a-publisher-decision/0111344

It’s a shame though, i am afraid of the next gen consoles, please hold me.

    • bloodiOS

But now it’s up to the publisher to decide whether or not they should enforce it, so if our campaign is strong, there might be room to wiggle. Be strong, brother.

  • Tac-Mex

Also, what do you think the final fantasy announcement is going to be at this e3?

Versus XIII or a completely new Final Fantasy?

    • bloodiOS

My heart desperately yearns for Versus XIII, but my brain tells me not to expect much before TGS.

    • Tetsu

      Crystal Chronicles 3

That would be so out of the blue, lol

      • Haku_Luvs_You

I would freak out if there was Crystal Chronicles announced at E3 no matter what system it’s for. I love that game and multiplayer was fun too :)

        • Budgiecat

          No

          Tobal 3

      • Elvick

I just want a CC that’s on par with the original. If it weren’t for the inaccessibility of the multiplayer, it would have been perfect.

But now we have the technology (:P) to make it simple. Yet we’re still waiting for one like the original, but with online and useable local.

  • LordKaiser
    • Tetsu

Super Direct Sequel, then direct sequel, and sequel sequel.

lol, yeah Zelda is convoluted, that’s for sure.

      • LordKaiser

Yup and this one seems to be happening at the same time as Link’s awakening.

  • Nightmesh

What happen to snap on bracelets? They were awesome.

    • Elvick

After they moved away from metal ones, yeah.

    • Tetsu

I just had a customer come into my work and ask about those, wow.

      90’s re-surge? :)

    • bldudas

I love snap-on bracelets. I just bought one last month.

  • Tetsu

Ok so can someone help me with a Disqus problem? (Here on Gematsu)

My comment filter used to always automatically be on Best. (Preferred)
But now it automatically goes to Newest even when I click Best.

Is there a way to make it so it always goes to Best?

    • PrinceHeir

yeah same thing happened to me.

i think they’re still fixing the issue.

      maybe in the next update?

      • Tetsu

Ah ok, glad i’m not the only one.

Does Disqus update automatically for websites?

        • PrinceHeir

i think they update to every website that uses it since in DTOID i also have the same problem.

the new picture thing is also available in both here and DTOID so that’s good!

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

Is it just me or is one of the reasons Wii U isnt selling well is because of how many gamers myself are looking forward to PS4 more than Nintendo’s console and have had mario fatigue.I love Nintendo but God will they create more than 1-2 new console franchises per generation. Im 26 and have seen that Nintendo has barely changed its always the same first party franchises they have been milking since the 80’s and early 90’s.
this is why after FFVII i wanted a PS1 back in the 90’s cause N64 had a fantastic library of ges Super Mario 64’Starfox 64’Conkers bad fur day, mario kart 64, Wave Race 64, Goldeneye,Goemon, Super Smash Bros., Perfect Dark, Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask, Quest 64 and more. However as time went on PS1 just kept gettin all the really good games FFVIII,FFIX,Einhander,Xenogears,Parasite Eve I& 2, Megaman Legends 1 & 2, Threads of Fate, Vagrant Story,Legend of Mana, Saga Frontier, Brave Fencer Musashi, Alundra,Arc the Lad Collection,Wild Arms, Megaman 8 & X4, Breath of Fire 3 & 4, Raiden Project, Legend Of Dragoon, and many more. Looking back the 90’s rocked i got a NES in the 8 bit era then A SEGA Geneseis in the 16-bit era, and later wishing i also had a PSX aside from my N64 cause of its vastly larger library of games.
Then came the PS2 it kicked a ton of ass, and i remember getting a Gamecube first and finding it to have good first party franchises buts its library of incomparable to PS2. Did i mention i also have a Dreamcast.

But anyway i nowadays find it hard to go back to Nintendo they just dont please me like they did back in the 90’s.

    • Lelouch Vi Britannia

Up above i did put in Parasite Eve I & 2.

    • MosquitoLemon

Since the N64, Nintendo has been pretty consistent in offering a small number of high quality games. In the PS2 era, Sony (and the third parties) released an outrageous number of high quality games, but since then they’ve dropped off considerably. I mean, there are about an equal number of PS3 and Wii games that I can point to and say, “wow, this is really worth playing/owning”.

So yeah, if anything I’m not pleased with Sony. Nintendo is the same as always.

    • GetOffMy_Lawn

I understand your opinion, but you have to give Nintendo some credit here.
Of the 18 PS1 games you listed, only one is a first party game (please correct me if i’m wrong on that). Sony didn’t develop those games, so how can you credit them with creating the diverse gaming catalog of the PS1? They weren’t the ones delivering the games.
Yes, Nintendo does utilize the same 15 franchises over and over again; however, there’s something to be said in the fact those franchises continue to feel fresh and innovative. Just because they’re reusing the same franchises doesn’t mean they’re milking them. “Milking” a franchise is when money-making comes before quality, and Nintendo’s quality has not decreased over the years. If you want a good example of milking a franchise, say hello to Square-Enix’s Final Fantasy: All the Bravest.
Also keep in mind that Nintendo is a significantly smaller company compared to Sony and Microsoft. Sony makes televisions, computers, movies, and much more in addition to games. Microsoft makes computers, Windows, phones, etc. Nintendo ONLY makes video games. They can’t afford to take as many risks as their competitors. The fact they’ve not just survived, but thrived, in the past seven years is pretty incredible.

      • Elvick

Wild Arms is a Sony owned IP, so SCEJ likely funded it. And Legend of Dragoon is Sony’s. I think they own Arc the Lad as well, but I’m not sure… yep, looked it up. :P

And, I’d disagree about all of Nintendo’s franchises feeling fresh and innovative. But we’ll agree to disagree there. Not every series needs to anyway. Kirby remains the same (sans the spinoffs like Mass Attack, or a new IP reskinned for Kirby like Epic Yarn). And Kirby is awesome.

MK remains pretty safe and still can’t topple CTR or DKR, but it’s still fun (though Wii was terrible IMO due to balance issues).

But, for some like 2.5D Mario the interest for me is completely gone. There is nothing about it that I care for. If I want fun gameplay, I may as well play SMB3 or World again instead of something that may play well, but I find totally boring in every other aspect.

Even 3D Mario is losing me, because they keep doing things like 64 and Galaxy. Where they don’t try to create a world. They just make random levels, then have them floating in an ugly abyss. I want a Sunshine. I don’t mind the Galaxy/64 type of doing things mind you, but after two Galaxy games, I want another like Sunshine. Where the game’s levels actually feel like they’re part of a real place in the Mario universe (mostly).

Give me a game like Sunshine, in the Mushroom Kingdom. Plus, I liked that Sunshine had some story to it. I also liked the background story in the first Galaxy. But they are probably done with that. *sigh*

        • GetOffMy_Lawn

Ah, I knew about Dragoon, but forgot about the other two. Thanks for the correction.
I agree with you on your Kirby point. Some franchises have remained basically the same, yet they’re still fun to play. Pokemon has also made very few changes over the years in terms of gameplay, yet it’s still incredibly rewarding (not to mention addicting!!), IMO.
I do see your point on the 2.5D. I wish Nintendo would either make a fully 2D or 3D game, not some hybrid. They’re obviously trying to appease two fanbases at the same time with the look. I just don’t care for the visual.
Platforming has never really been my favorite genre, so the Mario games have minimal appeal to me.
I wouldn’t mind a spiritual successor/sequel to Sunshine, either. I guess we’ll find out at E3 what the 3D Mario will look like on the Wii U.
We’ll have to agree to disagree on Mario Kart Wii, though. I thought it was the best installment to date.

          • Elvick

I agree with Pokemon, still addicting. Not that I’d turn away from more, and quicker, improvements though. :P I want to have a Pokemon follow me, in every game. Not ‘special’ ones. D:<

      • Budgiecat

Milking is milking whether it’s grade A quality milk or sour milk

    • Elvick

I’m just disappointed in Nintendo in general. I’ll probably get a Wii U next year. Unless there’s a really cool PS3 bundle, then I’ll buy a second PS3. I don’t want to ever be without one, so I’d like to get a second in case my fat dies.

I just want them to stop with the 2.5D. They don’t do it well. They’re all visually very basic and boring. Yoshi’s Island on 3DS is a really good example. How could something as interesting as the original Yoshi’s Island end up so boring? I mean, 2 on DS didn’t look as interesting as the original either, but this takes it up a notch in “meh”.

Gotta buy dat Pikmin 3 at launch though to support it.

      • Azuardo

Oh god, someone that agrees with me! I’m sick of this 2.5D business that Nintendo persists with. New Super Mario, DK Country Returns, Zelda LttP 2, Yoshi’s Island 3DS… Take a note from some other devs and bring us some HD sprites, Nintendo! Let’s see some WarioLand Shake Dimension again. Some BlazBleue, or Rayman Origins/Legends. Even the Sonic CD up-port looks brill, whilst retaining a pixel-look, and doesn’t come off anywhere near as rough as Yoshi’s Island 3 is looking. Man…I really hope the next 2D Metroid is in sprite form, but…looking at their recent batch of 2.5D titles, I can see them doing the same again for that.

But yeah, I’ve been hugely disappointed in the past 2 consoles from Nintendo – Wii and Wii U. Been getting away with their bad money-grabbing ways for too long to make me want to invest. But most of all, the Wii U is just lacking any really good games. I’ll get one eventually for the obvious stuff like Zelda and Metroid, but that’s really about it. The lack of proper accounts and re-releasing VC titles at high prices is disgraceful.

        • GetOffMy_Lawn

You say Nintendo practices “bad money-grabbing ways”, yet then say you’ll absolutely buy their console for “obvious stuff”. Kind of hypocritical of you to call a company “disgraceful” only to turn around and buy their products as if it was “obvious” any gamer should, don’t you think?

          • Azuardo

I can see what you’re getting at but that’s not what I’m referring to. I will buy the high quality titles from them that appeal to me, but I find their refusal to make universal online accounts and re-releasing VC games at high prices to be money-grabbing and treating their fans with disrespect.

I can still buy and enjoy their products whilst disagreeing completely with some of their methods. I’m sure everybody has gripes with the developers/companies they buy from.

    • Budgiecat

Wii U isn’t selling well because

1)Nintendo fans are content with 3DS so far in Japan. Handhelds are king there
2)All the former non gaming casuals bought the Wii and they dont even know what a Wii U is nor care. They probably think it’s an expensive add on,
3)Not too many worthy games yet

  • GetOffMy_Lawn

So I finally finished Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army! *catches breath*

I really enjoyed it, but the gameplay and battle system became pretty repetitive towards the end. The visual aesthetics, the setting, the story, and the characters really saved it for me. A lot of people criticize the game saying it’s pretty short, but I got a good 41 hours out of it doing all the side-quests and what not. I recommend it if you favor story and characters over a deep combat system.
Now I’m trying to decide which game to play next. There are a lot of classics I never got around to playing that I want to knock out over the summer. I’ve narrowed it down to the following games. I’d really appreciate any insight!!
    – Tales of Symphonia (Started, never finished)
    – Final Fantasy XIII (Started, never finished)
    – Fire Emblem Awakening (Bought on day one, never had time to play it. Loved the demo, though)
    – Rogue Galaxy (Never played, but LOVE Level-5! I hear it’s a lot like Dark Cloud combat-wise, which is a big positive in my book)
    – Final Fantasy XII (Started, never finished)
    – Final Fantasy IX (Started long time ago, never finished)
Ugh, I’m embarrassed I never finished so many of these games :l
I know I’d get the most educated response from the Gematsu community, since this appears to be the most logical and JRPG-savvy group of folks =)

    • Elvick

Don’t feel bad, I’m sure most people here (if not all) have a list of games they’ve started and not finished. Or even games we bought without starting yet… (I have plenty)

Out of that list, I’ve finished FFXII, Symphonia and FFIX. Both FF were after breaks too. XII after a few months, and IX after many years… xP

Symphonia I played pretty much all the way through if I remember right. Been awhile. But ToS: Dawn of the New World is in my backlog.

FFXIII and FE: Awakening are two I’ve started and not finished yet.

Are you planning on starting over? If so, then I say go with FFXIII first. If not, then pick the one you’re furthest in or remember the most about.

      Personal recommendation is FFIX though.

    • http://backloggery.com/axersia Axersia

Never finished any of those FF games either. I quit FF9 and FF12 about 20 hours in as they were just too slow for me, and I quit FF13 even earlier as I got tired of the party constantly being split up and having to use only two characters. Supposedly I was only one chapter away from permanently getting a full party again, but… oh well, too bad.

Symphonia and Rogue Galaxy, on the other hand, are two of my favorite games of all time. Symphonia isn’t all that special anymore these days as basically every Tales game released after it is better, but there aren’t a whole lot of experiences like Rogue Galaxy out there. The Dark Chronicle/Dark Cloud 2 roots are definitely noticable, but the combat is much smoother, fast-paced, and feels more like Kingdom Hearts. You can jump (they actually incorporate platforming into the level design), do aerial combos, use skills, and cycle between party members (all of whom feel quite different).

I personally beat the game in about 45 hours, though I didn’t spend much time with the extracurricular activities. There’s quite a bit of stuff to do like build factories (sort of Rogue Galaxy’s answer to the Georama system), and going around the universe catching insects and making them fight in turn-based tactical combat. Weapon synthesis is still present, of course, but it’s optional now as you can just buy new weapons (of course, the synthesized ones will always be better).

Story wise it’s pretty cheesy though, and I predicted pretty much everything that was gonna happen long before it did.

So yeah, I’d recommend eiher Symphonia or Rogue Galaxy. I’m more partial to the latter myself, but you can’t go wrong with either of them. Symphonia also took me about 45 hours to beat, and it’s very easy to get back into thanks to the adventure log.

    • Haku_Luvs_You

Lol I thought of doing this too. My list is Dragons Dogma, Eternal Darkness, SMTIII Nocturne, Soul Hackers, Etrian Odyssey IV, Neptunia V, and some older games. I personally love Tales of Symphonia, really got me into the series and for the longest time my favorite Tales game (Till XIllia came along). Fire Emblem is also great! But, that said, I’m a huge old school Final Fantasy fan (my PS3 is loaded with it) so I would go with some IX.

    • Budgiecat

      Gamera 2000

    • MosquitoLemon

The problem with those FF games is that you can’t just pick them up again in the middle, you’d probably be pretty low on ambition unless you have a great memory for the story and game systems.

So you can start those all over again, or just jump right into Fire Emblem and Rogue Galaxy. The FF games are a bit too slow and long for my taste these days (though back in the day I was a giant fan).

    • Kobracon

Been there, buddy. Lets see…I got Neptunia Mk2, Tales of Graces f, Ar Tonelico 3 and Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen unfinished. Depending on where you stopped in XIII you could continue. Their recaps are quite concise and sometimes good to read. So it might be enough to catch you up.

Personally I stopped playing XII as well but that was coz I didn’t like it. Rogue galaxy, however, is a fantastically fun game. LOTS of weapons to collect and its an overall fun journey you’d expect from Level-5.

  • xMCXx

    Finally beat Demon’s Souls!
It wasn’t THAT hard as many made it out to be, though.
Some bosses were lame as hell (Dragon God) and some areas just unfair (Valley of Defilement).
It was also shitty that I couldn’t play it online…
But other than that, pretty cool.
    Next stop: Dark Souls!

    • Elvick

It’s hard in the well designed way. In that you just have to pay attention and you should be okay, if you have good reaction time and patience.

      • xMCXx

        It’s challenging, yeah.
But still, Valley of Defilement is unfair. :p

        • Elvick

I only did the first stage. I didn’t like the way NPCs were hidden in dark corners. After I attacked one with an arrow – thinking it was an enemy that I was getting the jump on – I quit and never played it again.

          Not for me.

        • http://backloggery.com/axersia Axersia

What’s your problem with the Valley? That’s literally the only world where I never died. Well, except for the very end where I took a dive into the demon baby pit, but I did that intentionally. The most difficult world for me would have to be the 4th (whatever it was called). Probably half my deaths in the entire game were caused by those skeletons.

          • xMCXx

Because it’s dark as fuck and the enemies don’t even care about the poisonous water! ^^
World 4 is the Storm Shrine if I’m not mistaken.
Those hyperactive skeletons were annoying but not that difficult for me.
Looks like everyone has their own level they hate. :D

      • Budgiecat

But I’m an easily frustrated snail ….

    • GetOffMy_Lawn

Congratulations, and have fun on Dark Souls!
I think those games are more stressful than difficult. The dark atmosphere, the music, the constant fear of an enemy coming out of no where to kill you… I had to stop halfway through Dark Souls, not because of the difficulty, but because of how much anxiety it caused me!! I don’t know why, but that game made me more anxious than any survival horror game has.

      • xMCXx

        Thanks.^^
Yeah, from what I’ve seen Dark Souls is more difficult!

    • Budgiecat

It’s impossible. I can’t beat the first stage. I quitted

    • MosquitoLemon

Nice, I’ve gotta get back to playing it some day, but I only have time for short games and fighters right now. I love the trial and error, look before you leap gameplay style though.

  • Azuardo

Been having a Mass Effect trilogy run-through over the past week or so. Absolutely love this series. My fave series of this generation, easily.

    • Budgiecat

Why arent you playing Star Trek it just game out

      • Azuardo

No interest and it seems crap.

So what happened to the big Okami news that was supposed to be revealed this week?

I guess Capcom came down with a case of erectile dysfunction again after bragging about its prowess…

  • new_tradition

Am I the only one that hates watching movies in theatres lately?

I went to see Iron Man 3 (which I personally enjoyed, though reviews online have been mixed), but being such a full house for such a highly anticipated film, the amount of noise other movie goers were making just annoyed the f*ck out of me and ruined the experience.

There was so much talking, laughing, and other forms of exclamations. Not to mentions half the audience must’ve been sick; so much coughing, ugh >.<

Also that annoyance of having people come and go during the movie, and those in front constantly getting up and blocking your view, urgh…

If possible, I'll try to see it again on the half-price Tuesday. First-Second showing of a week day shouldn't have too many people there and make it tolerable. Hopefully.

Truthfully, I wish there was some way we can bring our headphones and just put it into a seat jack like they do on airplanes so I can enjoy the movie on my own. Why hasn't anyone thought of that yet? D:

    • GetOffMy_Lawn

      I feel your pain.

I saw Iron Man 3 Friday morning at about 9:45, and while there weren’t too many people in the theater considering the time, there was still an absurd amount of noise. The man to my left texted the entire film, and his phone wasn’t even on silent, so we all got to hear his phone ding every 2 minutes. Not to mention for the first 20 minutes there was a person a few rows in front of me literally having a full conversation on his cell phone. Loudly. I could hear him word for word over the explosions in the film. Beyond rude.

I hate going to the theater. I usually just wait for the DVD release, but a few films, such as Iron Man, demand a trip. I’ll have to make the trip AGAIN on Friday to see The Great Gatsby, and I’m already dreading the IDIOTS sitting around me.

I try to go at obscure times in order to avoid large crowds. I went to see the Dark Knight Rises a few weeks after it released late on a Sunday night and I was literally one of three people in the theater. It was awesome.

(I thought Iron Man 3 was sorely dissappointing, BTW, which made the trip all the more dreadful.)

      • new_tradition

Oh god, the Dark Knight Rises…I went to see that twice, furiously hoping the second time wouldn’t be as bad in terms of watching in a theatre, but as a summer release, I had no chance with all the students/kids in the the theatre X_x

I even remember how everybody starting screaming and cheering at the end because we see you know who, but it wasn’t THAT exciting >_>

I don’t go out and watch movies often, so I keep forgetting how bad the experience can be, but people are such a douches and happily remind me -_-

        • DrForbidden

Yeah, I was extremely disappointed by DKR as well. Horrible end to the trilogy. I enjoyed IM3, though.

      • DrForbidden

I’m wondering: is telling those people to shut the fuck up an option where you are? I know it won’t fly in some countries, but it works in some places and other people will back you up. The only distraction I had when I watched IM3 was a little girl a couple of seats away from mine talking constantly, but then she was maybe 5 or 6, so I guess it can’t really be helped.

    • Elvick

I never go to theatres these days. I just don’t find the experience enjoyable at all. Even ignoring my social anxiety.

I have no desire to have to sit in a stiff chair, with not enough leg room, walking on a sticky floor, hearing random people laugh cough, having some dude/lady wearing a hat on sit in front of me… and most annoying is people who can’t sit still. I always try not to move that much and even sit really far down (since I’m tall) and try not to bother people. To the point where it’s ridiculous. Yet someone people act like they’re having a damn seizure. So you have to constantly move just to see the damn screen in front of you without some bobbing head covering it.

Plus the cost of candy and drinks. :/ Bleh!

I’d rather just wait for it to come out on DVD/Bluray and buy it. Which is what I do. My boyfriend goes though. I’d like to go with him, but I just wouldn’t enjoy it. So I just let him have fun without me. Plus, we don’t usually want to see the same things.

I may reconsider when R&C Movie comes out. But I don’t know.

      • DrForbidden

I brought my own popcorn when I went to watch IM3… :/

Certainly better than the crap they sell in theatres. Just need to smuggle it in without getting caught.

        • Elvick

See, woman can just pretend to be pregnant to do that. Men, not so much. ):

Or they could just use a huge purse, but pretending to be pregnant sounds so much more fun.

        • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I never buy the snacks at the theater. It’s just a total rip off. Just bring a sweater or something and smuggle some snacks in if you need to.

Personally, I might have a small cheap snack before the movie, but never any huge meal. (Perhaps something from the dollar menu someplace.)

I feel like I’m getting cheated if I miss some of the movie because I get up and walk to the bathroom. I hate that lol.

I also usually go see movies with friends, it’s more enjoyable that way — so we go grab food afterwards to talk about the movie, eat, and just have fun.

          • PrinceHeir

i haven’t been in a theater movie in the last 3 years now(last movie was 2012, and that i was force at the time) XD

prefer watching at home in blu ray HD quality :)

            • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Nothing wrong with that, especially if the theater close to you really sucks.

I invite friends to go with me, but we often times go back to my place after the movie and play games or watch something else lol. =D

              • PrinceHeir

wish i had friends like you XD

                • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I suppose I’m kinda lucky. I made some great friends when I was a kid. I mostly just hang out with them, but we are true friends. It doesn’t matter if we have a disagreement or someone is having problems, we move past the bullshit because that’s what true friends do. They stick with you no matter what. I suppose it’s the closets friends can get to being family.

Sure, I’ve made some friends besides those guys. Many of them moved away, or they really aren’t close friends, which is okay, I won’t pretend I’m the coolest guy in the world, in fact, I’d say I’m a bit different, but I embrace it. I might not be the easiest person to get to know, but when that happens, I won’t turn my back on a friend, I won’t leave them when things get rough. That’s not what friends do.

I don’t want to forget my online friends! Everyone here at Gematsu is my friend, you too of course. =)

I’ll tell you this much… Making new friends isn’t super easy for me – I have my own personal anxiety issues, so crowds of unfamiliar faces can make me uncomfortable. I don’t really have control over it either. I don’t go out everyday thinking… Yep, today I’m going to have some sort of episode… but when it does happen… I just have to sorta ease myself into things. I don’t typically make great first impressions, so it’s not like I consider making new friends easy for me. I just do my best to stick with it, I believe that when people get to know you, and see who you are on the inside, that’s when real friendship starts.

          • AdamBoy64

“I feel like I’m getting cheated if I miss some of the movie because I get up and walk to the bathroom.”

Yes, lolz. Large size drinks are a trap!

    • Budgiecat

Because popcorn butter, nacho cheese and soda would clog and corrode the headphone jacks

    • bldudas

I can no longer stand movie theatres either. People just are too inconsiderate of others to fully enjoy the movie.

    • Haku_Luvs_You

I hate going to the theater anymore. I don’t know if this happens to anyone else, but there is always someone who brings a baby to the movie. Why are you bringing a 2 year old to go see Batman? It’s just an awful experience anymore :/

    • DanijoEX

I don’t go to theaters nowadays. I just rather wait for the film to come to DVD and watch it in the comfort of my own home.

At least, it’s better that way.

    • SystemLimbic

yeah its sucks but i really want to see man of steel in the theater

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Gosh, I’m reading this comment and some of the others below. I’m quite surprised at how awful the movie going experience seems to be for most of you.

I live in a small town with very little to do, I tend to go out with friends and see a movie nearly every weekend. I can’t remember the last time I’ve had that poor of an experience.

We usually make up a group of 4 at the least, If someone is doing stupid shit, we will all speak up and try to put a stop to it. One time, some guy was texting through the previews, my friend, he can get pretty angry very quickly, he just got up and walked out and told employees if it didn’t stop, he wanted a refund etc. He got back and in like 5 minutes some managers walked in and warned the guy who was texting. Which did the job. I’ve seen people be removed from the theater before too.

I suppose it can really come down to who runs the theater. If they really care about the viewing experience. On the flip side, our theater is old and shitty, they do a decent job keeping it clean, but the chairs need to be replaced, it needs new speakers and larger rooms, etc.

As for Iron Man 3 – I really liked it. I thought it was much better than Iron Man 2. Is it as good as the first Iron Man? I’m not sure, probably not. Is it as good as the Avengers? Hell no. But come on, even trying to compare Iron Man 3 to the Avengers is totally unfair.

      • Kobracon

Comparing IM3 and Avengers would just give Tony an anxiety attack ;)

        • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

It almost gives me an anxiety attack. xD

    • Kobracon

Wow I never knew that my country’s theatres would sound better than the US ones. Then one in the nearby mall is pretty good. Seats are nice and the crowd is usually quite quiet. Although I don’t see how you can have prob with ppl laughing. There are some funny parts in IM3 so wouldn’t laughing be normal?

      • new_tradition

Well I’m in Canada if that makes any difference :P

Oh, the movie definitely had it’s funny moments, for sure, but the first time I saw it, a large chunk of people were just laughing at almost every single thing, even the stuff that wasn’t supposed to be funny.

        *SPOILERS*

When Happy got caught in that explosion, when Tony had one of his panic attacks, when Maya got shot, when Pepper “died”. I think there were more scenes, but those stuck out to me as not hilarious scenes.

Though I guess it was just that specific bunch that day. Like I said in my update, the second time I went, I was much more in sync with the crowd.

        • Kobracon

Wow they laughed at that? Dudes were either high or have a rather morbid sense of humor.

    • new_tradition

Iron Man 3 Viewing, take 2

Whoa, such a huge difference. I’m even more surprised because I actually ended up being busy today, so I only had time to to make the evening showing that would be busier.

The theatre this time was about 75% full, but so much more mannered. There wasn’t any obnoxious chattering all around me this time, and I could actually hear all the dialog in the movie, lol.

Man, people are so unpredictable xD

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I’m glad you had a better experience. It’s a good movie, but annoying people around you can hurt the entire thing. =/

  • PrinceHeir

been playing Deadly Premonition Director’s Cut and my brother playing Soul Sacrifice.

    man these games are awesome!!!

    especially Deadly Premonition.

do wish it was 60FPS, there’s a lot of dipping and abrupt sound/music in the prologue and sometimes in the game.

still definitely one of the most unique games ever!!!!

plus it’s actually a “Horror” game with a twist :P

please buy these games if you have the chance!!!

    https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/913950_511772232203186_1351313628_o.jpg

    • Budgiecat

Do you have framerate issues with Deadly Premonition like many have been saying.

I have the original 360 version and playing it now no issues

      • PrinceHeir

there;s a lot of frame rate issues and sound cut off in the beginning of the game(heck in the title screen you’ll see some abrupt sound)

but it get’s better the longer you play for some reason.

however the prologue chapter, you’ll definitely notice some dippings and all.

but once you get to the town, it’s not bad.

i think you should definitely buy it!!

not only you support the developers and Swery65, but also you get the new content(a new scenario chapter written by Swery65 himself) and updated controls :)

plus i love niche games like this, would rather play this than most AAA games nowadays

    • SystemLimbic

great games even though my ps3 died RIP. Soul looks amazing!!

  • Budgiecat

We need a Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle demo & J-Stars: Victory VS demo on PSN right now. Like ……right now…

  • PrinceHeir

Metal Gear Solid The Legacy Collection JPN site :)

    http://www.konami.jp/mgs_tlc/

    definitely buying this!!!!!!

not to mention Metal Gear Solid Comic Videos from the PSP, but in Blu Ray version is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

still wish they bring back some of the cut content from the Substance/Subsistence like

Secret Theater is included(collection of parodies; ex The Boss vs Naked Snake Rock Paper Scissors, Metal Gear Solid Snake Eraser) which is in Disc 2 of Subsistence. Disc 3 of subsistence: Existence being able to watch MGS3 cutscenes non-stop

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKVHwhogA0s

Ape vs Snake MGS3(should have kept it on the PS3 version instead) i was also hoping for Dual Audio since this will make this collection a must have for those who want to hear voices in either english and japanese.

Documentary of MGS2 and the third disc of Subsistence(you can watch all of the cut scenes in one go)

Nightmare cutscene from MGS3 and code conversations with the group.

SERIOUSLY what a missed opportunity AGAIN.

oh well hopefully they release another collection AGAiN with all the content intact and added Portable Ops and Portable Ops+

  • PrinceHeir

anyone here still play PS2 games?

this just arrived last night XD

one of my favorite castlevania games of all time along with Curse of Darkness!!!

love the original sony strip on top right!

    you don’t see those nowadays!!

    • MosquitoLemon

All the time! I actually want to get a PS2 in Japan, there are so many great games we never got.

      • PrinceHeir

im actually thinking of getting Shinobido, SHUMPS, Sega Collection games, SNK Collection, From Software King’s Field series and much more!!

the PS series will never die for me!!!!

        • MosquitoLemon

Shinobido is so good, it’s a shame the Vita version left out the best part – the level creation!

          • PrinceHeir

yeah the PS2 Takumi expansion pack looks nice!!!

    • xMCXx

I’m thinking of buying Dark Chronicles for the PS2.^^

    • Tetsu

I love Lament of Innocence! One of my favorite Castlevania games as well!

And yes, I still play PS2 games XD

    • Sevyne

I still play Lament of Innocence on occasion. It’s easily my favorite 3d Castlevania.

    • AdamBoy64

I guess I’m just getting into the PS2.

I played through Radiata Stories early last year, and I’m thinking Tales of the Abyss is the next RPG I’m going to be starting.

    • Haku_Luvs_You

I Love that game :D People trash 3d Castlevania but that one was very solid. Also I still have my PS2, and I think it’s about to get me through Nocturne.

      • PrinceHeir

agree, don’t give a fuck about others.

this was truly a revolutionary game for the series.

if they can improved this with much variety level design, same atmosphere and grand OST as well as tons of moves from other action games like DMC and this would have been godly!!

too bad konami screwed it up once again

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I’ve heard they are in trouble from various sources on the web. If things get really bad, I hope a good company will come in and save Atlus.

Seems like Siliconera’s been pretty militant recently. There were a bunch of comments deleted from the Senran Kagura article. My comment on Ishaan’s very weak argument was deleted, and my account banned. So I tried creating a second account and that was banned too. Guessing it was an IP ban. I think I might just stick to Gematsu from now on.

    • AdamBoy64

Ah, I’m sorry to hear that.
I used to visit Siliconera a bit – but I found Gematsu had more of the articles I was interested in.

Even though I don’t comment much here, I also found the community here warmer and easier to get along with.

      • Elvick

Eh, the community here is like most others. Grudge holding, negative thumb happy people.

I get them all the time for seemingly no reason. Like down below, being downvoted for saying Happy Birthday to someone. (oddly no one else was, weird~)

God forbid people judge comments on their own merits, rather than act like children and downvote because they don’t like you.

I don’t know why people are on the internet at all if they can’t let go of an argument when it’s over. I argue a lot, but I guess expecting other people to just do as I do… in actually letting it go, is too much to ask from the internet. Gotta base an entire person’s being on the arguments you’ve had with them. *eye roll*

    • Kobracon

What did they write about Senran Kagura? Is it another article being all feminist about it?

      • Luna Kazemaru

Think you got them mixed up with kotaku

    • Luna Kazemaru

I take it you where the one who thought it was smart to throw curse words at a mod? Got balls bro I really think some people really need to understand that if you got banned you got banned for a reason its the point of the rules set on the OT which they link god knows how many times. If you don’t follow them I don’t know why you don’t expect a ban. That’s honestly not being militant at all that’s a mod doing their job

  • PrinceHeir

Sal no Open Forum for today?? :(
