New multiplayer character Nabbit detailed.

New Super Luigi U, Nintendo’s previously announced downloadable content for New Super Mario Bros. U, will also be released as a standalone game, Nintendo has announced.

Those who already own New Super Mario Bros. U can still download it as as a cheaper add-on, however, the retail version will not require New Super Mario Bros. U as a base.

Nintendo also shared new details. Since Mario doesn’t appear in the game, players can enjoy multiplayer by playing as Luigi, blue Toad, yellow Toad, and Nabbit.

Nabbit is a character who first appeared in New Super Mario Bros. U and stole items from Toad’s house, and players would chase him through stages to capture him.

Playable Nabbit has the same speed and jump as the other characters, but does not power up if he collects items. Instead, he doesn’t take damage when he touches enemies.

New Super Luigi U, which offers 82 updated courses, will be released as downloadable content for New Super Mario Bros. U on June 20 in North America and Europe for $19.99, and as a standalone game at retail for $29.99 on August 25 in North America and July 25 in Europe.

Wasn’t this supposed to be a free download?

And still two Toads… Jesus Nintendo. Stop being lazy.

Thumb me down all you want, including two Toads when the Mario universe has countless characters to use instead is lazy. Your thumbs, either way, won’t change that.

Yeah and when are they going to add smash characters to Mario party.

    • AdamBoy64

Yeah, I agree with that. Absolutely.

It might be difficult to work in story wise (not a big problem), but I’d love to see a Waluigi or Daisy in the mix. Something. Anything.

      The Toads suck.
How is Nabbit even a remotely good idea? Terrible.

  • MrKappa

So they just kick Mario out of the game and call it day?

  • Aldridge517

This looks like something that would be DLC if it were on PS3 or Xbox

    • Sal Romano

It is DLC. But a rather big one. Which is why they’re also releasing it a standalone game for people who just want to play the Luigi game.

  • Claude

I thought this was supposed to be single player?

  • Bobby Jennings

And Nintendo tries to down Sony and Microsoft for doing paid DLC stating that they believe in giving people entire games without DLC….oh boy Nintendo, such hypocrites.

  • almostautumn

And so Luigi, the only character who still had actual character in the Nintendo roster of mascots, is now being placed in the most uncharacteristic of any Nintendo title to date and being represented by the uninspired and dull gameplay that has been static and dull for a very long time…

*Don’t care if these games make money; they’re trash.*

  • AdamBoy64

Eh, I’ll probably end up buying it. Haven’t finished the original yet though.
