    Biggest surprise of the day!!!!

  • Jontaku

    The Character models look amazing.

  • Adol Christin

I prefer the sprite models of the previous GG games. The first screen looks really weird, in a bad way.

    • Elvick

I agree. In the gameplay itself it looks fine, but for things like that it looks less than desirable.

      • Budgiecat

Both of you are out of your minds, This **** looks unreal

        • Souji Tendou

It’s built on Unreal engine, ofc its unreal.

          • Budgiecat

            ya got me there

        • Elvick

I’m in my mind just fine. ;3

Can’t speak for Adol though! :P

We just have an opinion, that you don’t share.

          • Budgiecat

            Well then….

            *mindjacks Elvick*

  • HeatPhoenix

This looks WAY better than the sprites they’ve been using, especially BlazBlue’s those were just amateur-ish.

(before you downvote (or upvote for that matter) please scroll down and read what I have to say about Blazblue’s sprites)

    • Luna Kazemaru

HAHAHAHAH thats a good joke there.

      • HeatPhoenix

I didn’t expect any upvotes for expressing my opinion, but I at least expected a fair retort. Though from you I probably should not have.

Anyway, do you really want to discuss this because I actually have some expertise on the subject of pixel art and I can give you some objective observations as to why I don’t think BlazBlue’s pixel art was that great.

Unless you just want to yell some drivel and pretend I’m insane for not liking BB’s pixel art, then you can just opt not to respond any further, that’s okay too.

        • Luna Kazemaru

“Though from you I probably should not have.”

Some major irony here but w/e explain then why they where not good when BB has been praised for its good sprites along side KOF13. I can work with this new look for GG but lets not kid ourselves in trying to call good hard work amateur=ish.

          • HeatPhoenix

(Thanks disqus for just not sending my comment and making me rewrite it)

            Okay, let’s begin:

            Here are a few sprites:

With Ragna all the way at the right, first let’s look at his hair. Jaggies all over the place. You would expect pixel art professionals that get paid to be able to master hand anti-alias.

In the case that you don’t know what anti-alias means for pixel art, here’s an example:

Now, see how much smoother the right is to the left and realize that NO sprite in the entirety of the BlazeBlue franchise has that. A technique that is one of the defining techniques dividing the fledgling pixel artist from the pro. That’s why I called them amateurish.

Now, look at Ragna again, but this time at his face and his left arm. You’ll spot some anatomy “quirks” hopefully.

            Objective enough, hopefully.

            Your turn.

            • Luna Kazemaru

objectively enough I admit BB sprites have always been like that and aren’t perfect but to call it amateur work really -_-.

Pretty sure alot of it had to do with them trying to blend 2D art with HD. Which in terms leaves small jaggies edges. as for his face and arm again that falls on my first statement aswell as Ragna’s standing form.

you’ve expressed you opinion in a good manner so I will apologize for the rudeness :)

              • HeatPhoenix

Yeah, I agree. I think the size of the sprites is too ambitious for the amount of frames they had to make. But since it’s all HD you can’t really make it smaller.

                Thank you.

          • Budgiecat

Blazblue has the least amount of frames per character out of SF III, Skullgirls, KoF XII/XIII and Garou Mark of the Wolves. The only thing that really makes them look good is the size of their sprites (large), which helps show a clearer resolution

    • z_merquise

Arc Sys’ 2D art looked great but I may admit that in terms of animation, KOF XIII beat them. But I don’t think theirs are amateurish.

I felt a bit indifferent when they used 3D instead of hand-drawn 2D but after watching it again and again, I think I’m starting to like it. The cel-shading looked pretty good and you may even mistake it as a hand-drawn cartoon:

      • HeatPhoenix

Yeah, that’s what I’m saying, this shit is a HUUUUGE improvement. I love it.

      • Luna Kazemaru

Apparently this is how they wanted GG to be in the past this new look could work for me but I’ll wait to i see dizzy before i have my true saying.

        Also dat pony tail…

      • Budgiecat

It REALLY does look like a hand drawn cartoon. More so than even the Naturo UNS games amd even more than the new JoJo game coming up (which I’m highly excited for).

What I wished Dragonball Ultimate Battle 22/Shin Butoden should have looked like when I bought them for PS1/Saturn back in 1995 (those featured hand drawn 2D cel art superimposed on 3D background for the PS1 version).

I also now wish the upcoming J Stars Victory VS woulda used this tech….

  • DesmaX

Wait, those are 3D graphics!? Wow, I really couldn’t notice the difference (I though the part with the rotating characters were just an special effect, or something)

  • bleach630

hope this doesn’t effect the speed of the game

  • z_merquise

I’m so happy to see an all-new 2D Guilty Gear game.

Personally, I preferred hand-drawn 2D but it’s really time-consuming so I’ll understand their decision. As long as it looked good overall, I’m fine with it.

But I’ll put those worries aside for now. This is f*cking Guilty Gear! I’m a fan of the series so I’m hyped for this!

    • Budgiecat

It’s hard to tell that its even 3D. If you told me it was 2D and I didnt know I’d believe it. This is what Time & Eternity RPG should have looked like

    • tubers

Soon, it will be much harder to tell 2D from 3D..

There’s going to be better “anime 3D shaders”.. and more computation power.

More computational power means more polygons, better physics and higher resolution shadows..

no more “rough” cloth and collar flaps (straight edges), pixelated shadows that’s jarring, individual fingers that look copy pasta, stiff looking hair and so on.

    • PrinceHeir

now if we can get Darkstalkers IV,Samurai Shodown VII or even Shin Megami Tensei Arena to look more like this then that would be amazing!!!!!!

      • Budgiecat

Imagine if Shin Megami Tensei IV was for PS3 with these graphics!

  • Tetsu

I kinda can’t believe it, this is awesome!

    Maybe we’ll get a PS4 port ;)

    • PrinceHeir

      PS4 please!!

balance the game first on arcades, then get the amazing single player content like in Blazblue, with tutorials, amazing net play and custom BGM!!!!!!

      let’s go Arc System Works!!!!!!

  • Tetsu

Hopefully we’ll get a slew of new characters on top of the old full-roster. I don’t want to have to wait till Guilty Gear Xrd: Ultima Core 2nd: R to start fleshing out the bulk of characters lol

    • Heavenly_King

Yeah, I am with you. Hopefully if that happens they will feature those versions as DLCs of the originals instead of only physical re-release (like they are used until now lol).

  • Heavenly_King

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

If you thought the BB vs GG fans were rabid before. Prepare yourself for a new age.

    • Luna Kazemaru

lol read all the comments on other boards

  • new_tradition

I haven’t played a GG game before, so I wonder if I can transition from what I know playing BlazBlue.

    • z_merquise

You may try Guilty Gear: Accent Core if you wanted to familiarize yourself with Guilty Gear.

      • new_tradition

Thanks, I’ll try to look into it. Could you comment on the narrative? Is it easy to understand without playing all the games?

        • z_merquise

As for the story . . . well, I don’t really put much attention to the story to be honest.

I do like the characters and the settings but I never really followed the story much. I do still know their backstories and how they relate to each other though.

If you’re interested with the narrative and never wanted to bother buying the past games just to know what the heck is going on, then I can only suggest checking the Guilty Gear wikia.

Sorry if I can’t help with regards to the narrative.

          • new_tradition

No, thank you! This definitely helps me a lot ^^

            • superlocke

I can definitely tell you a wiki is the easiest way to follow the story, even if you’ve played EVERY game in the series.

Once you get a general grasp on everyone’s relationship, any guilty gear game ends up making the same amount of sense lol but they’re all great.

        • Miss_Madness

The story can get pretty complicated like BB. That is you’ll need to pay attention to character stories to get the gist of the some of the major parts and conflicts going on.

    • MrKappa

GG is a lot harder to play than BB. Your execution needs to be tight as hell and you need to hit those long combos on point.

Basically GG’s entry level is way above most games.

  • Raoni Marques

It’s looking friggin’ great. Before I watched the trailer, I read they were using unreal engine and was a little afraid…but after checking the video…omg. It’s goddamn pretty!

    And that song…wow..just wow

  • [Guillem ]

This is the most awaited game for me,… and right now I’m very scared,… hope this changes don’t suposse and step back,…

  • Eclipse

The wait for this has been far too long.

It’d be awesome if they finally make Valentine a playable character, because ever since I’ve played Guilty Gear 2: Overture, I’ve always thought that she’d be a great addition to the cast.

    • Budgiecat

I just ordered that game 30 minutes ago used for $5

      • Eclipse

        Hope you enjoy it!

That game was definitely an unusual take on the series.

        • Budgiecat

It comes Wednesday. In the meantime, I decided to torture myself playing some Vampire Rain….

    • PrinceHeir

      yes please!!!!

plus she is an important character from the story and “That Man” knows who she really is!!

      • Eclipse

That’s true, it’d be interesting to know more about her.

Some other additional characters would also be nice. Who knows, we might even see “That Man” and Raven finally be playable! ;)

  • Solomon_Kano

    • Budgiecat

Now we just need a Power Instinct, Bloody Roar and a Yu Yu Hakusho game like this

      • Solomon_Kano

A YYH game like this would blow my mind.

Power Instinct took me waaaay back though haha. For a second I thought you combined Power Stone and Killer Instinct, but then I remembered Atlus did that once upon a time. That would be awesome.

        • Budgiecat

Power Instinct: Groove on Fight which they published for Saturn. Still got it somewhere. Then I believe SNK published the Matrimelee one for NeoGeo. There were some advanced looking sequels with some really sharp looking graphics for arcade only that came after that one too…

          • Solomon_Kano

Further back, the first game came out on SNES/Genesis. That’s the only one I’ve actually seen myself, though I know one of the sequels made it to PS2 but (sadly) never came overseas.

            • Budgiecat

Well Groove on Fight for Saturn was never localized either. I believe I needed a 4mb expansion cart as well as a pro acton replay cart to play it. Missing out though that game was dope

              • Solomon_Kano

Oh? Guess I’ll have to find a way to play it one of these days. Might try tracking down a copy of the SNES one, since that got an English release.

                • Budgiecat

No look for Groove on Fight because that is worlds better. I remember in 1998, liking that game more than Guilty Gear 1

                  • Solomon_Kano

Interesting. I’ll look into getting it, then.

      • PrinceHeir

        Bloody Roar 5!!!!!!!!!!

new Power Instinct would be awesome as well!!!!!!

Yu Yu Hakusho in the same vein as JoJo!!!!!!

  • dior

HOLY !!! I have no words lol

  • OverlordZetta

I just hope that MAYBE we’ll get to see this one on the Vita after BlazBlue didn’t get on?

    • superlocke

what? Blazblue was a launch title for the vita.

      • Solomon_Kano

        He’s probably referring to CP.

    • Solomon_Kano

Doubtful. There’s yet to be a single UE-powered game released on Vita. That said, the system supports UE3 so, if that’s what this is built on, then it certainly could make it to Vita.

Edit: actually, I’m wrong. So who knows.

      • Raiyu

You’d be wrong. Doctor Who on Vita is run using UE.

        • Solomon_Kano

Really? Well, I stand corrected then. Thanks.

So, a single UE-powered game, then.

          • Skerj

Mortal Kombat (albeit horribly) and Jacob Jones too.

            • Solomon_Kano

Ooh. Forgot all about the MK port. Okay, cool. We’ve got a good handful of UE games on the system then. Guess there’s a chance for this too, then.

  • dasombrero

Feels like I should start learning Johnny again. Awesome.

  • superlocke

  • xMCXx

    Looks interesting.
Wonder which consoles they’ll port it it to….

  • PrinceHeir

the king of 2D is back :D

it seems the sprites their doing is similar from KOFXIII.

3D models then made in 2D sprites.

the feel reminds me of their previous work Battle Fantasia.

still wish they used Blazblue engine, but i guess it’s not for 3D polygons?

glad we have people like George Kamitani Daisuke and Ishitawari :D

it seems Vanillaware and Arc System Works are keeping the 2D sprites alive and well!!!!!!

    can’t wait for this!!!!!!!!!!!

    • z_merquise

It’s cel-shading than 2D sprites this time. Still, it looked so impressive.

  • $30632660

    FINALLY!No more Blazblue garbage!

    • DrForbidden

If you think that this spells the end of the BB franchise, you are in for some serious disappointment.

      • Gyro Zeppeli

Blazblue has been demoted to anime and VN status so they can focus on the REAL DEAL.

        • TetsuyaHikari

Oh, you mean like that VN Chrono Phantasma coming out for console this October?

          Oh wait…

        • Luna Kazemaru

and its shit like this why GG and BB never gets big if you really don’t think GG was ever anime you are kidding yourself. This coming from a long time GG fans some of you trying to shit on BB are a joke and make the GG scene look really bad

    • Karl Josef

I bet you don’t know the story of Blazblue :P

      • $30632660

Playing a fighting game for the story….LOL

        • Luna Kazemaru

its pretty ironic that you find this funny when more fighting games are adding more single player content to them even capcom is trying it since they do see the demand for it. So who should be laughing?

          • $30632660

And yet the single player content will always be irrelevent compared to the multiplayer content in fighting games.

            Nice damage control though

            • Luna Kazemaru

              Damage control? haha right

              • $30632660

That’s what I said, I’m sure you can read and understand what damage control means ;p

        • Karl Josef

          why not?

  • Hating Ass Nigga

Will we finally find out who “That Man” is?

    • Ryudrake

      Isn’t it Ragna?

  • TetsuyaHikari

    I’m ready to rock!

    • Budgiecat

      Turn, well,
      Come out on the weeaaaaaaak…

      Fraud, lie,
      suffer in the ennnnnnnnd…

….So let it be, oh let it be says all the haters,
Six times a knocking on the doors,
No response but hey you ready–

  • SystemLimbic

    looks good plus great music

  • Raiyu

    Looking forward to it.

  • Christopher Celand

Fucking this is the Guilty Gear we all been waiting for next gen <3

    • Karl Josef

      No no no no no
I don’t have money to buy the next gen console!
PS3, Xbox360, 3DS & Vita should still be supporting by the devs.
But if devs become good enough they should probably release this on PC xD

  • Nate

The lighting guy Ky looks like a girl now with that hari cut. Lame. Also I hope they take that vampire character out.

    • TetsuyaHikari

      >implying he didn’t look feminine before

Also, that vampire has a name. It’s a Slayer and don’t you forget it, son.

  • Ashton Anchors

Characters look kinda fat now and i don’t know why but, i feel like they have less detail than before. All in all looks a little bit awkward to me, still probably buy it though. I mean……it’s a new GG, one does not simply miss that.

  • Djkarl Pierre

what makes it even sweeter is that red Team is developing it, the same guys who made GunGrave.

    • z_merquise

You’ve mistaken it for Red Entertainment.

Red Team is just a codename from the people who are developing this new Guilty Gear. It’s still Arc Sys.

  • Karl Josef

I thought is still a plain sidescroll action but when I saw Unreal Engine and the trailer. Mind Blown!

  • Renzouri

    Heaven or Hell…Let’s Rock!

  • LordKaiser

I wonder if Blazblue will receive this treatment. I like what i see.
