PlayStation 3 owners added to the mix.

The third phase of closed beta testing for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will begin Friday, June 14, Square Enix has announced.

The beta will add the PlayStation 3 version of the game into the mix. PlayStation 3 users will be able to play across platforms with PC users. A “huge amount” of new content, including new city states Ul’dah and Limsa Lominsa, will come packaged with the beta.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is due out for PlayStation 3 and PC on August 27.

    Looking forward to this.

Same! I signed up a long time ago, haha. I signed up again for the beta a couple of months ago since I got a better PC though, so… Hopefully I’ll get to try it out next month on PC or PS3, preferably PS3 since that’s what I’ll buy it for if I like it~

It’s somewhat disturbing what this game has been through since release.

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Actually, it’s amazing that they have managed to salvage the project and turn something that was, well, let’s face it… Shit, into gold. This game has went through hell and even the people working on it have as well, especially with the shifts in positions. I’d say it’s pretty crazy they somehow managed to save this game and make it appealing again.

It truly is, dare I say it…

No offense but this “2.0” version has yet to prove successful. I’ll reserve judgment for 2 years down the road.

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I’m sorry, but if you’re going to sit here and talk about how “disturbing” this situation has been, but wish to withhold your judgment until 2 years from now, maybe you should have thought about that before stating your judgment on what it has been through. If you’ve been following FFXIV and the 2.0 update, you can CLEARLY see the improvements in the beta videos from the developers blog.

Yes, it has yet to prove successful (but this is only because the full version hasn’t officially released), but I can tell you right now… The opinions have certainly shifted from bad to good from what I can tell. Well, those who were lucky enough to already try the Alpha and Beta version of 2.0 anyway. They’ve basically rebuilt the game from the ground up by taking in the players’ inputs and have made the game what it should have been since the beginning.

With what I have seen from 2.0, I no longer have doubts that it will be successful since they have obviously learned from their mistakes and wish to make this a spiritual successor to FFXI.

          • sunK1D

My original statement is fact at this point(game had to be redesigned etc.) Your statement about the game being “gold” and consequentially successful is more of a personal opinion at this point than actual fact.

I’m not trying to pick a fight with you. I recognize the game has improved tremendously since it’s release but it’s too soon to say it will be a success.

            • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Actually, plenty of games go “gold” before they even fly off the shelves. I’m sorry you don’t think this will be successful and/or popular, but that is YOUR opinion.

  • xMCXx

Hm, this will have a monthly fee, right?

    • bloodiOS

      Yup!

Edit: Err, I got the info seriously mixed up, so look for Pyrofrost’s explanation instead.

      • xMCXx

Thanks for answering in detail! :D
It looks interesting but I’ll never pay a fee for playing a game so I’ll pass probably.

      • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

I wonder how flexible Square Enix will be with payment options (I’d generally prefer just to pay for the year or at least 3-6 months up front). It’s hard to fathom $12.99, then $14.99, then $13.99, then finally $12.99 every after admittedly, not very consumer friendly. I feel if Square Enix wants to get away with a sub fee, then they should be as affordable and flexible per month as possible. It also has to offer something, like items with it. Otherwise FFXIV looks promising this time around.

        • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

This is what I was using to make payments. http://www.square-enix.com/na/account/crysta/

It seems like they will continue to support this in ARR.

          http://i.imgur.com/xTHsbba.png

As you can see, you can buy Crysta ahead of time if you like. You can also just have them bill the amount each month, of course.

I think you still have to make the payment each month, but you can just buy enough crysta if you want to pay for so many months ahead of time.

          • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

Thanks for that info drop Zero. So $50 can safely cover a few months with a bit of change, 3 months actually (though I’m largely overshooting the price for budget comfort). Next noobish question I feel needs to be asked, upon purchasing the full game; does the purchase at all cover any of your time? Or is the real cost for FF14 going to be $39.99+your sub fee for let’s say 3 months, y’know to give this a serious shot, $12,99,$14.99×2 = $42.97 + $39.99 Total = $82.96 before any tax on either the game itself or the subscription fee (if said fees include tax).

            • Pyrofrost

              Here you go~

Straight from the SE website, and your first month is free. If you pre-order, you get early access, I recommend pre-ordering from the SE. Other places have had trouble with codes.

Thanks Pyro and Zero. Now to see if there’s a chance at the Collector’s edition or if I’ll be missing yet another one of em this year xD

                  • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

Woot, gotta put that squenix account to use. Thanks~

                    • Pyrofrost

                      No problem, you’re quite welcome.
Also, be sure to copy and paste your invoice with your Serial Number, Order Number, and etc; to a word doc or text file and SAVE it. Both on your desktop and on a USB stick or something for extra safe keeping. You really don’t want to lose that stuff.

I’m talking about the page that includes a PDF file for you to download. Copy, paste and save all the information on that page.

            • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

You do get a free 30 day trial upon purchasing & activating the game. They also have some Pre-order bonuses for those who Pre-order.

That’s the only things buying the game covers. After the free trial is up, you have to start paying the subscription fee to keep playing.

I don’t believe any of the subscription fee payment plans include tax. I’m pretty sure it’s just $12.99 each month. How you decide to pay that is up to you, of course.

I haven’t heard anything about the subscription fee rising and jumping around in price or anything like that. I’m not sure about it.

              • Pyrofrost

The link I provided has the only known fees provided by SquareEnix for FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.
Also, you are correct, game time is not taxed. At least, not in North America. This isn’t up to SE though.

                • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I didn’t think there was any tax. I could go search for my previous bank statements to be sure, but I can only go so far back for online transactions.

The Square-Enix website will only let me check my transactions from a few months back as well. =/

                  • Pyrofrost

Yeah, you don’t have to worry if you’re in NA. I’ve never been charged tax for MMO time.

SE wouldn’t have information on taxation though. Tax is set by governing bodies, not by corporations.

                    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I played version 1.0 and paid the subscription fee for a few months. That’s why I wanted to check my past transactions to find what they charged me before.

That’s why I brought that up. I’m one of the legacy members you mentioned above. =D

                    • Pyrofrost

Oh very very nice. My brother is a legacy member too. Unfortunately I am not. I played the first few months on 1.0 and I didn’t opt to pay that sub fee last year xD

I’m likely to go with the $14.99 bill cycle. What I haven’t decided on is whether or not I will be a dual-boxer ;)

        • Pyrofrost

I totally invite you to join and play with meh~
          It will be GREAT! ^_^

          • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

I still have to make a decision to actually come in and support the game officially, so I’ll adopt a learn and see approach before committing. If I do commit then yes, we’ll have to party up!

            • Pyrofrost

Hehe, well hopefully you will like what you learn and see, and I will look forward to playing with you ^_^

      • Elvick

Does that mean 180 days total, or in all in a row?

        • bloodiOS

I doubt it’ll all have to be in a single row but well, try contact Square to make sure.

        • Pyrofrost

          Heya, Elvick!

Just wanted you to know I explained the payment system that Bloodios was talking about in this post.

          http://gematsu.com/2013/05/final-fantasy-xiv-beta-phase-three-begins-june-14#comment-916159265

It could be right above your post depending on how you have your posts arranged.

Please read over that post and if you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.

      • Pyrofrost

May I ask where you found this information?

According to the actual SE website:
“A free 30-day trial is also included for new accounts. Monthly subscriptions for new accounts start at $12.99.”

        http://na.square-enix.com/finalfantasyxivarealmreborn/go/article/view/blog/262705/final_fantasy_xiv:_a_realm_reborn_release_news

I know for a fact that Legacy members are $9.99 per month and new accounts will be starting at $12.99 per month (this is for the cost of having one character).

**EDIT: Here is a statement of the current known fees for A Realm Reborn from the SE customer support Q&A:

        http://support.na.square-enix.com/faqarticle.php?kid=64539&ret=main&id=5382&la=1&pv=20&SQEXSC=g5t0qf5motdnjd45nsrj1ulnf3

        • bloodiOS

I got it from here (click on the Pricing/Platform tab):

          http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/product/

          • Pyrofrost

Oh ok, it’s a little different than how you worded it. It’s simply different tiers of subscriptions. The pricing is not going to be bouncing up and down. It also coincides with what I said, please allow me to explain:

*Entry* (or bare minimum) is simply the default sub price. This allows 1 character per server and a max of 8 characters. This runs at $12.99 per month. You are charged every 30 days.

Next you have the have the *Standard* service.
This will allow you to have 8 characters per server and a max of 40 characters. This is a bit more of a premium package and you get options here.

If you go with the 180 day subscription length, each month will be valued at $12.99 and you will pay $77.94 every 180 days.

If you go with the 90 day subscription length, each month will be valued at $13.99 and you will pay $41.97 every 90 days.

If you go with the 30 day subscription length, each month will be valued at $14.99 and you will pay $14.99 every 30 days.

***You are allowed to stay on the “entry tier” as long as you want, or you can start and stay on one of the three “standard tiers” as long as you like.
The values are set based on how many characters you want per server, the total amount of characters you want, and how often you wish to pay.

            • Elvick

              Thanks for the info

              • Pyrofrost

No problem at all. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. If I have the knowledge, I will share it.

            • bloodiOS

Ah, I see. Well, I tried to understand the chart to the best of my ability since that was the only thing provided for me when asked Square about the subscription fee. Anyway, thanks for the in-depth explanation. I really appreciate it.

              • Pyrofrost

No problem at all man, I am happy to help. I just want to make sure everyone has the proper information. I want to see as many people playing this game as possible. You are actually getting better deals with the upcoming set-up you would have with the original set-up from 2010.

You will also get your first 30 days free with the game too ^_^

  • new_tradition

I prided myself for still having my SE Members card from when I first bought FFXIII at debut to register for the Beta xD

  • Pyrofrost

My PS3 Collectors Edition is now pre-ordered at the Square-Enix website. God I can’t wait to play this game, make some lasting memories, and make some great friends like I did in Final Fantasy XI. I am so hyped!

        i’ll think about it :P

  • http://twitter.com/Nates4Christ Nate

Have they started sending out confirmation emails about who got in the beta?

  • SaveTheDay

Do someone know if they delete your character if you leave the game for some weeks / months ? (Heard there was a similar system in DQX, at least when it was released).

    • Hans Hazelgrim

Only Nintendo is dumb enough to do that.
