Tokyo-based publisher hopes to accelerate business.

Ken Kutaragi, the father of PlayStation and former chairman and chief executive officer of Sony Computer Entertainment, has been welcomed as an external company director at Marvelous AQL, according to a Nikkei report.

The decision will become final at a general meeting of stockholders at the end of June.

Marvelous AQL hopes to harvest Kutaragi’s knowledge of the industry to accelerate business in Japan and overseas.

Thanks, Hachima Kikou.

Wow. I wouldn’t have picked that.
    That’s exciting stuff.

Hope it works out for Marvelous.

What is an ‘external company director’?

I see. So basically a ‘freelance director’ of sorts. I wouldn’t have thought such positions existed, since there would be awkwardness when it comes to sharing company secrets and such where the director is not directly employed. I would have used the term ‘consultant’ instead.

Member of the board that isn’t employed there, or represent shareholders, but brings in experience and maybe a unique perspective to those on the board that do work there.

Been a lot of positive news involving Marvelous AQL lately. Good for them I say.

    Well, this was very unexpected.

This can only mean good news for Marvelous AQL <3

Now this is suprising, good for them..

Good news for them. Bad news for 1st party publishers like Nintendo I guess.

I was wondering what Krazy Ken was up to since Cellius (not sure if they did much other than maybe one or two collaborations with Namco Bandai).

I don’t know how strong his ties with Sony are these days (I’d wager that he still favors the brand, regardless of what went down in 2007), or how much impact he will have in Marvelous AQL’s platform decisions, (he’s not CEO, nor does it sound like he is even employed by the company full time) but I find this news interesting, if not rather surprising.

Although, looking at the games published since the merger, they have supported Sony platforms more liberally than Marvelous, AQ Interactive, Cavia or Feelplus combined, and about equally to XSeed, who they also acquired. I certainly wouldn’t mind a glut of releases on the PSP/Vita or PS3/4, especially if they are stuff like Nier!

Well, this certainly came out of left field. I’m not entirely sure how to feel about this just yet, but I wish him all the best in his new job.

If they hold the Shadow Hearts IP , I hope they at least make a HD remaster of the trilogy.

    • Elvick

I wish I could get a hold of the original. ): To a lesser extend the third game. I hate playing sequels without playing the first game. So Covenant remains unfinished. D:

The 1rst one was the most bloody of the 3.

  • Solomon_Kano

    Well, this is interesting.

To be honest, I’m failing to see how useful this would be. However I do admire Marvelous AQL’s desire to grow and mature in the business. I do feel they need to re-evlauate their internal studios and IP though.

MAQL and Sony are doing great stuff together
