Compile Heart has opened the full website for Fairy Fencer F, its newly announced Galapagos RPG-branded fantasy RPG featuring talent like Yoshitaka Amano, Nobuo Uematsu and the Earthbound Papas, and Tsunako.

The website contains story and character information, which we’ve previously detailed, and the first direct-feed screenshots.

The PlayStation 3 game is scheduled to launch this year in Japan.

I am excited to see some more coverage on this game. Bring on the JRPGs!

  • http://chaosraiden.blogspot.com/ Chaos Raiden

Great screenshots. Thanks for the share. The characters look great, and the monster designs look much better than HDN series monsters’ designs.

Hopefully the gameplay will improve as well compared to the company’s previous RPGs.

  • JonathanisPrimus

Why make a new label if you’re just going to fill it with the stuff you always make?

    • DesmaX

Well, you can’t really branch the Neptunia brand that much, so, if they want to make something “different”, they have to call it something else

      • JonathanisPrimus

I never knew Monster Monpiece and Mugen Souls were Neptunia games.

        • DesmaX

Of course they aren’t. They’re the same as this one

          • JonathanisPrimus

Except they were just released under the Compile Heart branding. This game is a Galapogos release even though there’s nothing different about it from the average Compile Heart game.

            • DesmaX

… Oh yeah, I totally forgot they were doing that thing.

Heh, it’s just some marketing thing to make it sound different. In it’s core, it’s the same thing

  • Sai

Neptune V bullshots all over again. PS3 can’t handle that antialiasing.

    • DesmaX

It doesn’t even handle all those 2 enemies on screen at once

      • Sai

It does but the engine still has awful optimization and runs without AA unlike the screens shown. That of course doesn’t affect the games themselves, which I love, but would be nice to see real screenshots for once.

        • DesmaX

Well, every publisher try to make their games look better than it is in their screenshots.

          Remember Far Cry 2 reveal?

  • Nitraion

    Looks like same stuff?

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

    Hrm~

I’ll have to see it in action before making a final judgment, but as of now… I sure hope this isn’t just a Neptunia clone.

    • Budgiecat

      I’d rather a Godmars RPG

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

It wasn’t funny the first time and it isn’t funny now. Do it again and I’ll have to use GOD FIYAH!!

        X3

  • Eclipse

    This is looking freaking awesome~!

I’m loving the look of the characters, but what I’m really curious about is the gameplay. Compile Heart did a terrific job with mk2 & V’s battle-system (one of my all-time favorites), so I can’t wait to see what they have planned with this.

    • Budgiecat

      Oh cmon….

        Oh cmon.

      • Eclipse

I remember seeing your excessive whining on this game’s previous article, so… I have no idea what your problem is.

I’m a big fan of Compile Heart, so of course I’d be excited and happy about this game.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dylan-Ng/100000854638739 Dylan Ng

He whines in just abt every article I’ve seen him commented on.

  • fallen

I’m reserving judgment, but I am not optimistic.

I suppose if they leave the Neptunia gameplay behind, there could be something here. That means no visual novel story scenes, field environments that do not exist as floating planes in space, and enough respect for their own game to not flash its characters underwear during every animation. Again, I am not optimistic.

On a side note, props to Sal and the editors here for their objective, to-the-point reporting. I like.

    • DesmaX

      Just some observations:

      > These Visual Novel cutscenes are what most niche JRPG developers (Gust, NIS and even Atlus in some games) use to reduce development costs, so, I’d advise you to adapt. There some some other developers (Like Gust, after Atelier Ayesha; and Imageepoch) that use animated cutscenes, but those aren’t better

      > They retconned those landmasses in the other ones (I also think that was a stupid idea, so I glad they did it).

      • Budgiecat

You know whats funny….most visual novel cutscenes for PC-FX games were actually better animated than visual novel cutscenes of today….and that was a console from 1994. Same for Blue Breaker Burst for PS1….
        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvxxSlonzco

        Learn to get with the times….Japanese developers….this isn’t 1990 anymore…

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dylan-Ng/100000854638739 Dylan Ng

How is this better animated? Looks just the same to me except with older art.

          • Oscar Alberto Abrego Suarez

Those images actually move, its like they took the animation of a well anime and slapped it on the game. A shame both Blue Breaker games sucks as hell wich make the art rather useless.

I think Growlanser series does a good job with its visual novel esque elements.

Im not hyped for this game at all but Neptune Idol has me very interested (Date a Goddess? Gimme Waifus :) )

            • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dylan-Ng/100000854638739 Dylan Ng

              Date a Live pun? :P

At the very least the Neptunia Idol Game have a chance to cross the sea unlike DAL: RU…. (Kurumi and Tohka :( )

EDIT: Eh the sprites just have that little bit more animation than the neptunia ones. Personally I don’t care whether the sprites are animated or not.

              • fyi1191

Now I hope we get Tohka as DLC character for this game.

Since the battle system is almost identical to Neptunia, they might roll out the Neptunia’s cast as DLC too. Just to milk more from us.

          • Budgiecat

            It’s not as static

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dylan-Ng/100000854638739 Dylan Ng

Looks pretty nice if you ask me. Hmmm is tht a glimpse of a new character I saw?

  • http://www.facebook.com/jefriputra Jeff

i hope this not going to be a game filled with yuri just like neptunia

    • vertical09

I actually hope the yuri undertones are still there. Was one of the things I liked about Neptunia.

Anyway, this is starting to look pretty interesting.

  • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

It looks pretty but saying Amano’s involved and then not showing any of Amano’s work is kinda…shady =/

    • Budgiecat

      Now you’re seeing the light….

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dylan-Ng/100000854638739 Dylan Ng

I’m pretty sure one of the background art belongs to Amano….

      • Budgiecat

        oooooooh

      • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

I didn’t get hyped for Amano BACKGROUND ART, come on! Amano’s a character designer.

        • DyLaN

Did you miss the notice abt Amano being a CONCEPT designer?

          • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

Definitely did, though precisely what classifies as “Concept”? Surely it’s not just a background here or there. I mean again they did make a big deal out of Amano’s involvement in the project.

            • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dylan-Ng/100000854638739 Dylan Ng

Concept designer is, well provide the concept of something. (AFAIK) It can be the characters, the world and its background, the lore and so on.

              • http://www.psvitadirect.com/ Kurisu Makise

That sounds a lot more game designer-y than artist specific admittedly (well planner since it’s a Japanese studio). I’ll just have to see how the project develops to get a better understanding of what they want to do brand wise and Fairy Fencer F specific but my hype is decreased admittedly.

  • Elvick

I really don’t get this new franchise they created. It looks the same as their other work. I mean, I think the characters and monsters look nice. (environment and it’s textures look bleh)

  • Derpazu

    I like what I’m seeing.

  • LETS PRAY FOR LOCALIZATION

Looking nice tho it look like they use Nepgear as a basemodel for Tiara

  • ickybod

    doesnt look interesting

  • Ashton Anchors

A male character in a Compile Heart game…are you sure the world haven’t ended?

    • chobitsza

      Yep, It’s not.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dylan-Ng/100000854638739 Dylan Ng

The world must have ended twice since DAL:RU have a male lead too.

      • farios

        And in Agarest…Mugen Souls…Seimadou Monogatari…Cross Edge…

  • yuina

Might as well just call it Neptunia 4.

  • http://www.facebook.com/micheal.scott.315 Micheal Scott

Art work looks great cant wait to see more ;D

  • PrinceHeir

    interesting :D

  • artemisthemp

Looks like HDN with Fairy to me, but that ain’t a bad thing
