EA to develop and publish future Star Wars games
DICE and Visceral Games to produce new games. With LucasArts closed, Disney has signed on Electronic Arts in a multi-year exclusive licensing agreement to develop and publish worldwide new games based on the Star Wars franchise.
The agreement enables EA to develop new Star Wars games for a “core gaming audience, spanning all interactive platforms and the most popular game genres,” while Disney will still retain rights to develop games within the mobile, social, tablet, and online game categories.
According to EA, Battlefield developer DICE and Dead Space developer Visceral Games are set to produce new games in the space opera franchise.
“Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe,” said EA Labels President Frank Gibeau. “Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise.”
Gibeau added, “The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay.”
