Expect Super Smash Bros., Mario, and more.

Nintendo will host its E3 Nintendo Direct on June 11 at 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET / 3 p.m. UK time / 11 p.m. Japan time, the company has announced.

The segment will “provide updates about future Wii U games,” Nintendo said.

The company previously announced it will show a new 3D Mario, Super Smash Bros., and Mario Kart for Wii U at E3.

The Direct will be accessible through the links below:

Nice. We can get the crap out of the way first.

CALLING THE SITE’S ADMINISTRATOR: Sal Romano is the one who runs this site, isn’t he? So Sal Romano, I just found my earlier comment, which I reply to now, to be edited in such a way that 100% inverts what I had said. It has not been censored or rephrased for unduly explicit language or content, but rather engineered by someone on the site’s staff to mean something literally completely opposite of what it said before.

I said, “We can get the crap out of the way first.” This was an allusion to the fact that Nintendo’s E3 Direct will be streamed AFTER the other two major console manufacturers, i.e. Sony and Microsoft, have held their conferences. So it was a tongue-in-cheek jab at those two conferences being crap, and Nintendo’s being the only worthwhile one. And the bit about wryly smiling also clearly denotes said tongue-in-cheekness.

The fact that it now reads, “We can get this out of the way first,” implying that I was actually referring to the Nintendo Direct rather than the Sony and Microsoft conferences, is something I find severely disturbing. I’ve seen some horror stories about people having comments edited on gaming sites, but never where they had literally doctored the comment’s meaning. I would like to think you don’t actually presume to run a website of any legitimacy or worth while tolerating or encouraging the people you allow to moderate it carte blanche to change the thoughts and words of the site’s users. Unless it was you yourself who edited my comment, in which case… What the hell, man?

I think they just tried to replace the word “crap” with “this” and then that unintentionally changed the meaning of what you were trying to say. I don’t think it was on purpose, dude. Maybe they should have put “this other stuff” and it would have worked better.

        • BigDix

This is possible, and yet things still remain problematic. If it was simply a misguided censoring of the word ‘crap’ (such a graphic term, too), then there’s the fact of how little thought is given to editing a user’s remarks — as in actually CHANGING the words — beforehand.

So did someone actually think I was referring to the Nintendo Direct as crap in my original comment? I can understand how misinterpretation is technically possible, but really, why would you think that? If the Nintendo Direct is the crap I make reference to, then what comes after the Direct? The floor-show, which is in no way the meat of what E3 is to all. The only things that could be sensibly considered relevant to my comment are the other conferences. Maybe everyone misread my comment (based on the downvotes), but face it guys: When you think about it for just a few seconds longer, it really doesn’t make any sense.

I also take biiiig issue with the crazy overreach that is censoring the word ‘crap’. Maybe if Gematsu was truly a troll-proof site where all inflammatory remarks were vigorously scrubbed clean of even the slightest phrase that might smack of offense, it’d make sense. But Gematsu is not such. The fact that actually inflammatory comments exist all over the place, intentionally made for no reason other than to hate and make more hate, and articulated in ways much more severely than can be reasonably compared with a lone invocation of “crap”, makes it difficult to believe that now, at this moment, someone apparently exercised some serious administrative privilege on a lighthearted joke that they didn’t even understand.

It’s no help that whoever did this can now just use the excuse of misinterpretation. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it’s a little hard to believe considering. In the event that’s really what happened though, I strongly advise that you guys give more thought to the situation at hand before doing the most extreme thing an administrator of a community can possibly do. Be sure as shit that something says what you think it says; you could’ve at least taken a glance at my comment history to see if I had a history of inciting hate against who you thought I was hating on.

I’d like to apologize again. I do read over all the comments, but it’s been a very busy last few days. Comments are not usually edited unless they are like a direct insult towards another user, or contain some kind of spam, etc.

For the record – I leave notes when I edit a comment.

I’m the lead moderator though, so blame me for this one. I responded just as soon as I saw this comment. I’ve changed it back above.

If you see anything you feel needs my immediate attention. Contact me via my email – slash789@gmail.com

You mentioned that other hateful comments are made sometimes on Gematsu. I try my best to watch over comments like that, but I want to be fair and allow everyone to express themselves. The last thing we want is users to feel censored. I really try to be extremely lenient with comments, I don’t like to step in moderation wise unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Once again, I apologize. Contact me if you feel the need to via my email. I will do my best to see this never happens again. I’m embarrassed about all of this to be honest. =/

Well, that’s about all you could ask of a mea culpa. I appreciate it, and yes — the comment now reads as it had originally. I just hope it doesn’t happen again, as the irony of my joke, which wasn’t even made at Nintendo’s expense (for what it’s worth at this point, I don’t think Sony’s conference will be crap; no comment on Microsoft), being edited while numerous weasely potshots aimed at Nintendo stand really saps my desire to read the comments, much less contribute to them. Oh well.

Wow. After reading all that I’m glad your original comment got edited now.

                • BigDix

Yeah, because we shouldn’t expect and demand better of our communities… Don’t be a dick, dude.

I think they intentions were good. Either way, we failed. This was a mistake plain and simple.

      • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I changed it back. I’m not sure who changed it but I apologize.

That is what the comment said, correct? I want to be sure I changed it back to the right thing.

  • Aiddon

and now Nintendo is poised to overtake E3 with minimal effort. This should be interesting

  • SuperLuigi

19 days people! Super smash bros, mario kart, 3d mario, hopefully miyamotos new game, retros project, and more! Get hyped!

  • Locksus

    Everyone aboard the hype train!

  • xMCXx

Nothing surprising there, but after Microsofts bad PC maybe this is what we need. ^^
Depending on what Nintendo is showing I might get the Wii U.

  • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Looks like an early wake up call then. =) I’m looking forward to it.

  • Gilgamesh2025

Oh, yeah! I can’t wait to know which new characters the next SSB will have! I’m so excited! :D

  • MrKappa

I doubt any of the games Nintendo shows will be out this year so the Wii U will not be entering my home until winter next year when maybe the new Smash Bros, new Mario, new Mario Kart, X, Bayo 2 or SMTxFE is out.

  • fireemblembeast

Nice! I’m looking forward to seeing gameplay and more details from SSB (both Wii U and 3DS versions) and maybe, eventually, FExSMT! …Because those are the only reasons I have for getting a Wii U so far.

  • PrinceHeir

    nice one nintendo :)
