Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and Tango Gameworks’ new horror game, previously known by its code-name Zwei, is called The Evil Within and is coming to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and next-generation consoles in 2014, publisher Bethesda has announced.

“We’re incredibly proud to announce The Evil Within,” said Mikami. “My team and I are committed to creating an exciting new franchise, providing fans the perfect blend of horror and action.”

More information will be revealed at IGN on Monday, April 22. Today, however, IGN has gone live with the debut trailer and screenshots, which we’ve embedded below.

Bethesda and Shinji mikami, interesting. So those teasers and mikamis unannounced title were the same game. Looks like a saw/grudge/silent hill mashup. Insanity in creativity

I see what you did there, Mikami.

    • Sal Romano

      Resident Evil, lol.

      • Budgiecat

The Evil’s within the Residency! …of Evil!

Kinda like “Lost Odyssey” or “The Last Story” (Final Fantasy)

Good God, I thought everyone missed this… lol….

    • AdachiTohru

WHat ? What is it ?!

  • Skerj

Survival Horror!! Welcome back my friend, you’ve been missed.

  • TetsuyaHikari

Looking forward to seeing this in action. I could use a decent horror game for a change that’s not part of the main IPs (Silent Hill, Resident Evil, etc.) to have something fresh.

  • RyoonZ

Can’t wait to see gameplay trailer.

  • Adol Christin

YES!!! FINALLY… Shinji Mikami is back :)

  • xMCXx

    Well, that looks fucking creepy.
    I love it!

I thought Mikami said he was going back to true horror… This looks a bit too much like RE4, just with more blood and gore. Tsk-tsk. Here’s to hoping Monday brings better news.

    another shadow of the damned?
    I’ll pass.

  • Kurisu Makise

Looks like a mix of Silent Hill meets Resident Evil, then even more inspired by western horror flicks. I’m pretty spooked, so I’m looking forward to seeing more.

  • Awnye

AWESOME. Dude looks like Nathan Drake tho.

All this really needs is an interesting cast of characters, then we have a great horror game. Good characters make a game/movie/show/book, imo.

Ditch the versions for current-gen system and concentrate on making ready for next-gen ones by summer of 2014. id Tech 5 has serious potential, so don’t waste it on overdue hardware…

    • DrForbidden

The game probably started development long before next gen specs were announced to developers. They might make a version for next gen, but that will depend on their financial situation.

  • Peacenutman

Definitely has the Shadow of Damned vibe to it, which I love greatly.

    • Keegs79

Shadow of the Damned vibe? SotD wasn’t even a survival horror and didn’t try to be. This game looks way darker and more serious.

    • PrinceHeir

      i agree :D

this reminded me of Shadows of the Damned with more serious and darker tone.

anything that resembles that game is awesome!

      in Mikami we trust!!!!!!

Ahhh, Air on a G String, one of my favourite classical pieces. And might I add that I have been waiting for a “true” survival horror game ever since Siren: Blood Curse. Very, very keen.

  • artemisthemp

That trailer make the game look inertsting, but how really would like to see actual gameplay

    The evil dead :)

Hope this is a survival horror game and not some wanna-be-western-bs product.
