God Eater 2: “No online multiplayer support yet”

But there are plans to talk about it "sometime in the future."

There is no online multiplayer support for God Eater 2 “yet,” according to Namco Bandai producer Yusuke Tomizawa.

“I am very sorry, but there is no online multiplayer support yet,” Tomizawa said on Twitter in response to a fan asking if the game would have online support.

The fact that he chose the term “yet” over “not supported” might imply online compatibility will arrive via an update. Another fan asked of such feasibility on Twitter, to which Tomizawa responded, “Sorry, it is not yet decided.”

In a follow-up tweet, he added: “As not to scatter information I will explain it again. God Eater 2‘s multiplayer supports ad-hoc and ad-hoc party, but there are plans to talk about online specifications sometime in the future.”

God Eater 2 is due out for PS Vita and PSP this year in Japan.

Thanks, Game Jouhou.

Welp, there goes any interest I had in this.

    No multiplayer, no buy.

    • Cry_Zero

      simple as that

    • Skeletor

      Gotta feed that pewpew!

  • hush404

    That makes me sad :(

  • Elvick

Didn’t Ragnarok Odyssey not have online until a patch in Japan?

    I don’t think it’s a big issue. Let’s wait and see.

      I don’t recall

      • Duc PC-QB

        I do

        • Bobby Jennings

          I do as well.

    • Skerj

You’re right, if I recall correctly the patch came about a month or so after the game launched.

  • Ivan Junior

Oh, come on. I was looking forward to buy this game since its announcement. This news makes me really sad. But there is a ‘yet’ there, so I hope they include online multiplayer through a patch or something in the future.

  • Bloodios

On the bright side, without resources being dedicated to online features, more juice can be squeezed out of the Vita.

  • JonathanisPrimus

It’s not going to be localized anyways.

    • Gabriel Lage Pessoa

The first one was, why not this one?

      • Fango

It’ll just take two years to make over here and by that time, they’ll have GE2+

      • JonathanisPrimus

Bandai Namco isn’t localizing Vita games, that’s why.

      • AdachiTohru

Namco bullshit doesnt support vita in the west -_-

    • Kefkiroth

GEB was released at a time PSP games were being heavily pirated, and it got good reception (meh from critics, but better from users) so I don’t see why they couldn’t at least release the Vita version.

But yeah, maybe I’m being hopeful, and it may be even worse off than the Tales games and One Piece PW2. Which is a shame because it looks really nice. With right analog stick support, aiming the gun will be so much better. I see it having all the action Western fans would like too.

  • Gabriel Lage Pessoa

Thank god SS has online! But I’m hoping for a future online for this one too, loved the first one.

  • Eclipse

I only played the first game in the single player mode, so this doesn’t really affect me (not a fan of multiplayer), but if this really turns out to be true, then I can see why some people would be disappointed. They could plan to add it in the future, so let’s just wait and see.

This news still doesn’t change the fact that it’s my most anticipated game.

Guys, let’s not forget that nothing has been decided yet. Online MP support might still be added via patch post-launch. Keeping fingers crossed. That way it would most likely even omit an Online Pass =)

  • AdachiTohru

Ok, so Toukiden + SS > God Eater 2

  • almostautumn

As my single large issue with GE:B was no online, this bothers me a lot. I had an outstanding time with Phantasy Star 2 particularly for its infrastructure support, so— I mean, I really hope they too decide on it here, as GE:B was one of my top 3 PSP titles.
Of course, if the game isn’t localized, which is what I assume this “yet” is referring to (as Japanese gamers have consistent outlets for ad-hoc gaming), then that is that. But if it is, then they will really be making a mistake by not pursuing this.

Very horrible decision , they just lowered their import sales overseas

  • Kefkiroth

I loved MHFU and GEB even without online, but online multiplayer could easily increase the amount of playtime this game gets. I just hope this has a good amount of single player content in the mean time, and I’ll get it anyway.

  • Bec66

Kind of a strange that they’re considering adding in online play when this game basically thrives off of multiplayer and this game could be the shot in the arm needed to boost vita sales

  • Sevyne

It really is a poor decision to not include online. Games like this heavily rely on multiplayer and while it was acceptable years ago on the PSP to settle for just ad-hoc, it really doesn’t sit quite well these days.

Now i personally can forgive it since I only very casually play these games multiplayer, but it’s gonna sting them real hard if they are not going to get with the times.

    • HeatPhoenix

I agree with you except that my decision to buy games like this hinge on the online play. Say, Peace Walker HD, I only bought it because it also supported online. And for example will NOT be buying the 3DS MH3U because it does not support online…

      • Sevyne

Exactly my point. It doesn’t really hurt me much, but for people like yourself (and you are probably part of the majority) this is a reason to not buy the game, and I understand completely why you would avoid it. Games like this thrive on multiplayer to increase the longevity of it. These games survive on the communities behind them so they are shooting themselves in the foot with this decision.

not so bad, this is can save my money :)

  • Rokkun

    Western release please

BAMCO: ” The psvita is selling poorly in the west, so we dont have in our plans to localize the game. We are idiots and we think the console can sell by itself without releasing new games.”

    > Ragnarok Odyssey didn’t have Online multiplayer at launch
    > Soul Sacrifice didn’t have Adhoc multiplayer at launch

Calm down, dear misters and madams. Release date isn’t even announced yet. So let those good people do their thing and hope that they will listen to the gamers’ demands/wishes and add online multiplayer support.

It’s a bit of a shame that the number 2 in Hunting Action can’t even keep up with Soul Sacrifice. However, in Namco Bandai’s defense, the term used was “yet” so I’m hoping they can get that in, maybe in a DLC patch or before launch; so as to keep the genre competitive and worthwhile.

  • Barrit

blah whatever. As long as they have it in by the time it comes to the West :)
