Hear the English voice actors for the first time.

The first English gameplay video of Tales of Xillia has surfaced online. You’ll hear the game’s English voice actors for the first time. It’s out for PlayStation 3 later this year. Watch the video below.

Thanks, NeoGAF.

    at last !!!

Dual Audio. For god sake, this need dual audio.

    • Mura

QFT my friend, quoted for truth. Milla’s eng VA is horrible.

      • Budgiecat

Weabooliscious is not a tasty drink

        • Nightmesh

I haven’t touch that stuff in years. I heard it makes you deaf to everything but one language after a while.

        • xMCXx

          Stop being so Americacentric.
I’m not even American, so why should I listen to American VAs if I don’t like them?

          • Nightmesh

So if the voice actors were British you would listen to them because your comment makes it seem like you hate American voice actors in general. =/

          • Nightmesh

So if the voice actors were British you would listen to them because your comment makes it seem like you hate American voice actors in general. =/

            • xMCXx

Nope, I only meant in cases where I don’t like them.

I actually like the Persona 4 dub, for example.

              • Nightmesh

……..I still don’t get what you meant by Americacentric. I mean this is one of the obscurer JRPG in America. So anyone commenting here are far from Americacentric. Some of us just pointed out that as soon as certain group of someones english voice actors on their Japanese Game they scream for Dual Audio even if they only dislike one or two voices. Those are the Weeboos in question.

                • Yuri Meitzen

it’s not like the japanese audio is perfect, it’s because we want to play it with original audio as it was supposed to. japanese audio in a japanese game fitts better, it’s the same thing when they change the voice actor of an already existing character. for example Cole from infamous, when infamous 2 came i didn’t want to play because it didn’t sound like the same character

                • DrForbidden

I don’t care either way as I will probably not be buying this, but tossing out ‘weeboos’ this and ‘weeboos’ that at anyone who dislikes the voices for whatever reason doesn’t make you distinguished or smart, nor does it make you appear more mature.

So you don’t think that the star of the game, who probably has the biggest chunk of dialogue in the game, having a voice that you can’t stand, is a cause for concern just because that’s ‘only one character’? OK, fine. Great for you. Other people think differently and have different preferences, but that doesn’t necessarily make them wrong. That’s the point of dual audio: consumers can select the option they want. It’s the best outcome for everyone.

                  • Budgiecat

I actually do prefer dual audio. I just had to poke fun though because whenever stuff like this comes out there’s always that certain group of people that whine and complain at the voice acting no matter how hard the actors try or even if it’s noted right away that there’s dual audio. You can hire the best voice actors in the world and it’ll never satisfy them since their not from glorious Nippon. Even if some of them still don’t understand the language….

                • xMCXx

Because it’s dumb to accuse someone of being a “Weeaboo” when he wants to listen to the original VAs.
I’m not even American, so if I want to listen to the American VAs I’m an “Americaboo” or what?

          • Budgiecat

Because deep down inside we’re all Americans

        • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

The ‘weaboos’ are strong in this article..

        • zakou

:P some people prefer the voices recorded of a script in a dark room just because they are american :3

Others prefer true emotion voice where the voice actors get to know the story and personalities of the characters so they yell, cry, shout, laugh, overjoy and etc with true emotions as the Voice actors watch the game characters and take note of the situation they are in.

Still… reading of a sheet of paper in a dark room with microphones emotionless is better :3 jk xD

        • DrForbidden

Neither is Condescending Generalisation. That’s a laxative.

    • zakou

Sadly i don’t think this will happen, I’m just being realistic however I’d even pay extra to have dual audio, we can only hope.

      • almostautumn

Wonder if anyone has ever brought that up to companies before? I’m actually all about that, and think it’s a great idea (so long as the price stayed at a DLC low of near $5). I know it’s expensive for them to bring dual audio, but hey— I think there’s definitely enough of an audience who prefer the Japanese originals that they really could justify at least trying it out as DLC.
*Then again; once companies start to see the aspect of profit, it’s pretty possible that we’d be paying for the rest of digitial-based gaming for that audio. A dangerous game, this is!

        • zakou

@Sal this is a very good idea, I don’t know how and I suck at this but could you contact Namco or Hideo Baba or anyone and tell them to try out Japanese voice overs as a payed DLC?

  • uhawww

    1:03
All RPG victory screens should include complex high-fives.

    • Nightmesh

      Especially after long boss battles.

      • ShinAsura(新阿修羅)

I love long difficult boss battles

        • Budgiecat

          How bout:

          Long lines at amusement parks
          Long trips to the bathroom
          Long waits at the DMV

      • DesmaX

I think everyone would be too tired for that

    • Kurisu Makise

Well said! Really excited for ToX now.

  • Archvile78

I think Sam Riegel will be voicing Jude, he does sound like Flynn, IMO.

  • Theratzil

Elise sounds pretty spot on, alvin sounds pretty good, Jude has a bit too dark of a voice, bit unfitting but still okey I guess but Milla sounds bit ..I dunno..

    • fireemblembeast

Agree but Elise is not in this *points at avatar*… That’s Leia, but I would have liked to hear Elise as well

  • Cleiton Santos

That dudes voice while doing the high-five victory was… Hopefully this will have dual audio.

  • Bec66

Jude and Leia sound fine, Alvin sounds cool, Milla…Sounds like a guy, but I’ve only heard a little bit so maybe it won’t be too bad

  • DesmaX

    The voices are… Poorly recorded?
I dunno, they just sound weird. Had the same problem with Graces f.

Not going to stop me from buying, of course, but…

    • zakou

I didn’t find anything wrong with Graces F voices, apart from the 3-4 win quotes that i think got recorded in mono or broken sound, it sounded like a wii version voices but that’s only 3-4 win quotes out of 60+.

The rest of the in game/anime/cutscene voices and emotions were very good imo. really good actually.

      • DesmaX

Hm… I dunno. They’re too loud for In-Game voices, I guess? Can’t pinpoint the exact reason

(I have no problem with the VA’s, just to make sure. They’re doing a fine job)

        • zakou

Settings/sound settings -> Voices = lower. Problem solved xD

  • Tetsu

If a good game does have bad voice acting, i try to find the comedy in it. No use in getting angry over it i suppose, nothing you can do about it lol

    • Tetsu

My best example of this is Baten Kaitos.
Great game, atrocious voice acting, hilarious to make fun of.

      • http://www.facebook.com/caleb.mitchell.988 Caleb Mitchell

Another game that’s known for that: Arc Rise Fantasia, good game but bad voice acting.

        • FitzpatrickPhillips

Arc Rise is just horrendously awful that it kills the game that would otherwise be pretty emotional. Baten Kaitos wasn’t “that” level of bad and ToX doesn’t even compare to those two – its great so far.

          • Tetsu

I donno about that, in Baten Kaitos, the game has an option to turn off voices. I think someone in the development team added that after hearing a recording session lol. I kid, but that would be funny XD

        • AdamBoy64

Yes. A lot of people don’t give it a chance because they’ve seen clips of the voice acting online.

          That’s a shame.

  • Nightmesh

I love almost everyone voice. Alvin sounds sexy so they have my money. Milla just sound so wrong. I always picture something like the VA for Lightning for Milla when they said they were doing with a deep voice for her but this is too deep.

  • syaznifaiq

i have a mixed feeling about this

  • disqus_rAlbLnJTRl

Hm. Jude sounds similar to Sam Riegel. Alvin sounded like Troy Baker, but not quite. Matt Mercer perhaps? Leia and Milla dont sound familiar, and Milla sounds horrendous. Really drone-like, lacks emotion.

  • DarthBrian

Is there still hope for dual-audio on this, cuzzzzzzzzzzz….yeah. :(

    • ShinAsura(新阿修羅)

I have yet to play a Tales game with dual audio so not sure

  • zakou

Ouch there is very little emotion “shouting” “energetic” feeling in the way they speak, the best example is the very first battle at 0:12, she sort of yells “out of our way” from the perspective animation but the voice sounds like she is tired or alone somewhere in a dark room perhaps?

xD well my point is that there is not enough yelling with emotions, all they did was a simple read case a point “out of our way” was very plain.

Either way this doesn’t stop be from buying the game day one, but where is the freaking RELEASE date that i can’t stop thinking about, just give us a release date please.

    • MrRobbyM

I kind of like the low energy of that line. It gets old really fast if I hear it all the time and the enemies aren’t anything to really yell about :P If she was yelling I’d probably yell “BUT THEY’RE JUST STUPID FROGS CALM DOWN!” back at her.

      • zakou

Lol yeah I get your point but I don’t really like emotionless voice when I see a yelling animation, also I don’t even know if it’s only for the frogs xD it might be the same for some other monsters too or humans that are in your way.

  • Brandon001

Looks like its coming along, great

  • AnimusVox

Looks so much better than ‘Graces f’
I was getting scared for a while, I didn’t think we were still getting it.

  • Xenovelgr

Those sound good, though I’ll have to get used to Milla’s new monotonous voice…

  • Niyari

I know Milla is supposed to be 20, but eeesh. At least it isn’t unbearable, I guess. Everyone else sounded great.

    • MrRobbyM

I thought I was going to be alone on that. Milla’s voice sounds a bit too rough and serious. Hopefully it’s better throughout the game.

      • zakou

We have not heard enough to judge the voices as a whole yet.

        • MrRobbyM

I know. That’s why I said that I hope it’s better throughout the game.

  • http://lukalovesgames.blogspot.de/ Alkaid

I really can’t understand why most people dislike Millas VA. I mean… well how do I put this… *ponders* It’s really difficult to find a substitude for Sawashiro Miyuki-sama and to that…most of the time Milla is really a bit … boyish and bossy. Plus there isn’t much to hear from her in the gameplay video.

I was eagerly waiting for a skit to judge it properly. Sadly Namco Bandai chose to go the gameplay-trailer route, so I won’t be able to until more footage is shown.

Anyway ..I sure am glad that (for the moment) the voice actors turned out to be this fun and I am also happy that it’s not Lightnings english VA aka Ali Hills for Milla. I only have bad memories regarding XIII and XIII-2 and wouldn’t want to subconsciously project those on Xillia.

    • zakou

Ali Hills has one of the best English VA and this isn’t only my opinion lol she really uses her emotions in her voice rather than emotionless “Out of our way” :P yeah i know in just kidding but still to each his own i guess.

      • http://lukalovesgames.blogspot.de/ Alkaid

I don’t deny that but every time I hear her, I know it’s definitely her and to me that is kind of really boring for a Voice Actor. Maybe I’m just too used to japanese, since most of the VAs really surprise me many times.

Ah shoot now I feel bad for my opinion… xD

    • ShinAsura(新阿修羅)

      Millia’s voice seems too deep

  • ShinAsura(新阿修羅)

Still bothers me though, no release date yet

    • DrForbidden

^This. At this rate, localised ToX2 will only be released in the PS4′s second year…

      • Elvick

I’d say 3rd year at this rate.

Namco dragging their ass with Tales, as usual.

  • Oside

Ok. I know everyone is saying this, but i still wanna say my part…

Hahahahaha! At the beginning when i heard milla’s voice, i thought this was a fan dub just for fun. I couldn’t believe her voice! After a while though i think that i could get used to milla’s voice in this game, but i really would prefer her voice to be a little higher. I cant shake the feeling her voice sound like a grown old man.

I think everyone’s voice actually fits them well, at least the ones they showed. They did a good job in that sense. Hopefully they fix milla’s voice just a little.
But hey, beggars cant be choosers.

  • xXDGFXx

“I’m ready when you are….” That had SOOO much impact…

  • Joseph Steinhilpert

ah man takes almost 2 years to finally see this in NA.

  • frubam

hoo haa, eat this. hoo haa, eat this. hoo haa, eat this.

  • ddsfan2

It is hard to tell what Milla’s voice actually sounds like, because she didn’t say very much in that battle. It might be different in the final game as well.

Either way, I’m stoked for this game.

  • Yuri Meitzen

sadly xillia isn’t that good =/ maybe i buy it again if it has dual audio just to understand the little things i didn’t

    • MrRobbyM

It doesn’t appeal to me that much but I do want to give it a chance and also support the Tales series. The sequel looks a bit better even though it doesn’t appeal that much more to me but I still want it localized!

      • Yuri Meitzen

actually from what i’ve seen the seguel looks worse X__X, i love the tales series, have all the non localized ones even thought my japanese isn’t 100%, but recently i don’t like the idea of releasing a new game each year if it’s not going to be like the older ones, and i rather buy the japanese one than hear the bad english VA.

        • Ni

Xillia 2 is way more fun than the first. In the sequel the characters are useful without the need of being Milla or Jude (was really disappointed when playing as Alvin in the first Xillia, now i’m on the way of my 3rd Alvin solo on Xillia 2). Would be awesome if the battle system was enhanced in the localized version.

          • Yuri Meitzen

i played as alvin just fine in the first one… even better than milla or jude since that combination attack didn’t pop up and stop my combo, also i saw only a couple new arts, so they basically just added the other characters, and the story don’t look good U_U

            • Ni

For me the battle system didn’t work well for the rest of the cast as worked for Milla and her dog. In Xillia 2 i Finded the battle system was more fluid for the rest of the cast. As for the story Both games didn’t had a good one IMHO. To speak the truth i never liked Xillia :/. but i’ll buy the localized version to show support (i want the portables ones in the west! I want to see what they can do with two completely new and diferent entries in the 3DS and Vita)

              • Yuri Meitzen

the story was kinda rushed to me, but it had a better story than graces, though i prefer Graces battle system.

but what i was trying to say is… a lot of people was expecting vesperia and think xillia is better, it isn’t, you can’t play co-op properly, having AI linked with another AI is useless and shouldn’t be, secret dungeon sucked, and it has no replay value, also that frame drop sucks X__X, in my opinion xillia will sell well because of the hype if xillia 2 gets localized it wont =/

                • Ni

“the story was kinda rushed to me, but it had a better story than graces, though i prefer Graces battle system” My man!

Don’t forget the awesome, short and linear Final Dungeon of Xillia 1!

I know that people want a new Symphonia/Vesperia, But entries like these two just happen one time per generation (for me this can be applied for other JRPG franchises too). But this is what happen when you make a game that many people liked, you create a monster that want the next installment to be as good (or identical) as the previous one. *Look at the Final Fantasy 7 fanbase*

                  • Yuri Meitzen

when it comes to Final fantasy 7 it’s kinda overrated, battle in FF7 is perfect, the amount of builds you can make with support materia and stuff is incredible.

storywise… it’s emotionless, when sephiroth does that thing(everybody knows) at the end of CD1, it’s sad i know but cloud and the party reaction meh….
i think the thing that differs FF7 from the other ones is that sephiroth isn’t just the bad guy who wants to rule the world though i can’t seem to like him as much as i like Dhaos from ToP, and vincent should be more “main” character but we barely see anything of him.

                    i like FF8 better though i don’t like rinoa >_>

        • Speedo Redempteur

          The sequel is awesome.
They just improved on anything they could.

    • Lyrics

A lot of people will disagree with you when you say things like “Xillia isn’t that good.” You could at least say, “In my opinion, Xillia isn’t that good”, then give reasons why. But I think Xillia is great. It may have its flaws, like a lot of games, but it is still, all in all, a good game.

      • zakou

People said “Graces F isn’t that good” “it’s story is frienship only and stuff” yet i spend 200+ hours on it and the story is not only about friendship but many other things that i won’t spoil.

      • Yuri Meitzen

i did explain some of the reasons in a post after that, but i didn’t explain all of them, also i didn’t say it was a bad game, i meant it wasn’t that great, and not worth the hype

  • HarryHodd

Ok I’m enthused. I’m going to perfect that high five!

  • talesoffan

This is my most anticipated game of the year, easily. This gameplay footage has me excited.

  • Ragiacrus

woot finally, wanna get my hands on a copy of this game

  • Rafael Martines

I just love Ni No Kuni with Dual Audio :D offcourse the Japanese audio, the eng voice act just make my ears bleeding.. Namco with you want me to buy Tales, just put the japanese audio :D

    • Nightmesh

…….He’s just being sarcastic right? I haven’t heard of a single person that complain about the Ni No Kuni dub.

      • xXDGFXx

This is actually one of the games where I chose the Eng dub over the original.

  • DarthBrian

    The handshake is pretty awesome.

  • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

    I can NOT wait !!!

Also with the exception of one person the voice acting is good, about on par with the japanese.

  • Ni

If the game don’t sell well for the lack of JP voices… and Bamco stop to publish this franchise in the west…I’ll laugh at the weeboo asking “WHY THE GAME DIDN’T SELL!?

    • Yuri Meitzen

buy it japanese simple as that =x

      • Ni

But then they will complain that Bamco don’t localize the franchise! And we’ll be caught in a never ending circle. :P
The only voice that I didn’t liked is Milla btw (but looking for the good side this isn’t Eternia level of bad lol) .

        • Yuri Meitzen

wasn’t legendia way worser than eternia? the answer is pretty simple let it have dual audio or… just the japanese audio, nobody likes the english VA anyway X__X.
i couldn’t hear Mira very well, but i didn’t like jude he sound… i dunno more mature?

          • Ni

I like both japanese and english VAs so i don’t complain.
Played only the japanese Legendia, so I can’t voice my opinion on this one. But the Eternia dub…The godanmed Eternia dub…
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=aXEwNgW-pho#t=113s

            • Yuri Meitzen

i remember eternia being bad xDDDDD, also eternia was the first JRPG i liked one english VA better… seriously WHAT THE F!@# is that noise quickie does in japanese

          • rebellion14

“nobody likes the english VA anyway ”

I enjoy english voiced games much more than Japanese, I usually can’t finish a game if it’s voiced only in Japanese (I haven’t been able to finish a single Agarest Senki game because of this….I tried all of them). And from what I heard this is pretty good except Millia (but we barely heard anything from her) compared to the Japanese version.

  • http://www.facebook.com/micheal.scott.315 Micheal Scott

its about time some news on Xillia
now release date plz and pre-order bonus :D

  • saran

To those complaining about Dual Audio, there isn’t going to be any. A Namco Bandai Europe spokesperson posted about it on NB’s forums…

    http://www.fr.namcobandaigames.eu/community/discussions/tales-of-xillia-a-propos-des-doublages/page/7

Dual audio will not be included because they’re focusing on increasing the number of overseas releases, shortening the gaps between localization times, and offering special bundles and premium editions. Furthermore, they are now adding Spanish and Italian text options to the European versions. These languages weren’t even featured in European version of Graces. At least American players are able to READ the game: all the Tales fans who spoke Italian and Spanish couldn’t even enjoy the game’s TEXT. And let’s not forget that, in the US and the English-speaking parts of Europe, a full English dub is more marketable to the masses than a dual audio option.

And, frankly, we should all be grateful we’re getting this game at all. Remember 2009, 2010, and 2011? How we got NO Tales games? Would you rather have that? Instead of being grateful, people are whining about how the Japanese voice track is objectively superior because seiyuus can do no wrong. Seriously, we’re judging the quality of the entire English voice track based off of two minutes of generic battle grunts and “Demon Fang!”s?

Get your priorities together and learn to be grateful for the work Namco is putting into this game.

    • http://lukalovesgames.blogspot.de/ Alkaid

While I also would prefere the japanese voices, (since I am a huge fan
of some of the actors) I have to agree with your point for the
international release of the Tales series. It’s nice that they want to get their priorities straight and publish the game in more european regions.

But most of the people here do not simply complain or as you phrased it “whine”, it’s just a comment on what they would prefere.

I bet not a single person here meant to imply that they are ungrateful for the release of Graces or Xillia or any Tales title in that matter, it’s quite the opposite to be exact. We all would love some Innocence or Hearts R.

Also: Dual Audio is a budget-related question, not a content one, thus it isn’t really nice to shove the missing audio option onto the translation team of NamcoBandai. ^^”

    • DarthBrian

Uh…including the Japanese *audio* shouldn’t add any extra time to *text* localization. It’s like already done and stuff and certainly shouldn’t affect the existence or not of french, german, italian, spanish or whatever else text they choose to include. Sounds like Bandai making more bullshit excuses to me.

      • Yuri Meitzen

        as always =x

    • PrinceHeir

lol im sorry but i don’t buy that BS on how these speeds up the localization.

in fact making dubs DELAYS it even more since you have to rerecord it for at least 6 months or more, the japanese voices are already done, just pay them up to be use overseas since money is the only obstacle in getting dual audio.

in fact why not offer it as DLC? i would buy this DLC Day 1 for sure, much better than we get alot of shitty Day 1 DLC’s nowadays.

even though im grateful for bringing the game, their excuse are freaking stupid, reminds me Atlus US constant refusal to not put any Dual Audio in any of their games(Catherine could have actually been their first, if they weren’t stubborn as hell)

    • Elvick

I don’t see how adding more options and value isn’t more marketable.

Not buying that. And, I’d buy a “the cost of keeping Japanese is too great” over “it’s not marketable and it adds too much time to localization”. Since, the former makes sense. The latter makes no logical sense.

I’m fine without it, but we shouldn’t get lies as a reason as to why it’s not there.

    • zakou

We have only talked about this video not the whole game itself, the voices did lack emotions in this trailer that contains like 0.1% of the entire voices recorded, we know not enough to judge.

Thanks for the info but you should read more of the positives, alot of us said we will get this game day one so yes we are very grateful for Tales of XIllia, even Graces F that i just platinumed yesterday xD sort of proof how much i care for the game 200+ hours playtime.

Also some of us point out how namco can make money of by putting the japanese voice DLC patch for those who are willing to pay for it and have their game in dual audio, it is US/EU release so they don’t have to have dual audio we understand but if it is respect they aim for then they will get it a little less by not including dual audio from the get go.

Just look at Nippon Ichi Software or CC2 games like Naruto Storm series, they all include dual audio and take note NIS isn’t even as near established as Namco is, yet they still do it.

Back to the point, we also have the right to criticize, if we see faults we will not ignore them just because this is a Tales of game, a game is a game we can’t close our eyes just because a rare game outside of japan is finally getting released.

This all doesn’t change the fact that many of us will buy this game day one.

Aside from Milla, I actually like these voices. I’ve heard much worse in gaming and anime dubs over the years. In fact, Milla isn’t bad so much as she just sounds mismatched to her character, and as someone else guessed, it could just be a sound tech issue. Though this being the only English sample is not much to go on. Maybe her VA will be much more suited in story scenes?

Though I also thought Milla would be done by Ali Hillis-I love her voice and the way she portrayed Lightning with all those ranges of emotion ♥

Anyways, yay! Finally some English Xillia stuff. Now a release date would much appreciated (though I’m half waiting to see what special edition Europe gets so I can import xD)

  • Speedo Redempteur

Enjoy it everyone ..it’s great game i platiniumed it last year.
i can’t stand the english voices so i went ahead.
The game is great , has some flaws but overall a good direction for the tales of franchise.
Don’t forget to buy the game if you want the sequel afterwards.

  • Bloodios

I’m going to be very honest here. I personally thought the English dub sounded pretty natural to my ears, so I’m not really sure what’s so bad about them…

For me, to label the quality of the English dubs as “bad” would imply that it’s about the same or below the level of what presented in Chaos Wars, and based on this clip alone, I think calling the quality of the voice acting presented here “bad” would be quite a serious stretch. I’m not sure if it’s because native English speakers tend to be more critical toward voice actors/actresses who speak the same language but with English being my second language, I sincerely believe that the voice actors and actresses ALL did an excellent job here.

As usual, I’ll be buying this game at launch to show my utmost support for the localization of the series… there simply isn’t enough Tales of games here in the West…

    • Archvile78

I expected the “negative” comments about the VA once the video was posted. I mean after all its clear we can judge the entire game’s VA work based on a two minutes video, right?

Anyway i agree with you, Bloodios.

    • Tenshiken

As long as it’s not dubbed like
Arc Rise Fantasia I’ll be fine with it.

      • Archvile78

i highly doubt it will be like ARF. =P

        • AdamBoy64

          The dubbing might be better.
But in my eyes, it’d have to be a spectacular game to beat ARF in general.
I’ve heard Xillia’s not that great, but I seem to hear that about most games these days.

    • RedWolfe

“I’m not sure if it’s because native English speakers tend to be more critical toward voice actors/actresses who speak the same language…”

The majority of the time, that is EXACTLY what the case is.

I’ve noticed that the majority of anime/JRPG fans, here in the states at least, have English as their first language and because of this, they are often very critical of English dubbing in these areas because they CAN be (in that their understanding of the language allows them to be). On the flip side, most of us are NOT fluent (to the extent of our English) in Japanese and often just assume that the original dub is good or at least better BECAUSE it is in Japanese or various other reasons like more “passionate” or “emotional” VAs when that is not always the case.

I know that over time some of us have come to even be able to recognize certain foreign voice actors but just because they’re recognizable or have done quality work in the past doesn’t mean that all their work will be. I know, at least out of the handful of my favorite VAs, I’ve loved them in some media and hated them others.

Having said that, to me, dual audio is nice for the simple fact that everyone can be happy with their preference but its exclusion will not make or break a purchase for me. I’d rather it be excluded than not get the game AT ALL and contrary to popular belief many English VA’s are passionate about their jobs (how else would they get hired?) and DO perform their roles well with what they’re given to go on.

PS: I’ll agree that some parts of Milla’s voice don’t sound quite right for the part. As a whole it’s not really “bad” per say but at one point she sounds calm when her pop-in portrait or whatever seems to be yelling and that “let’s move onward” sounded a little to…robotic? Idk, just my .02

  • ShinAsura(新阿修羅)

Seeing how they’re already 74 comments which is more than most posts get, I would say this game should get some solid attention.

Nice to see when the producer Hideo Baba stated he’s looking to release more for the series

  • ShinAsura(新阿修羅)

Honestly though the game is very fun, I think people will adapt easily. I know I will

  • http://www.facebook.com/Bladez0fDr4v3n Sae-Won Yoon

Alvin sounds kind of like a Troy-Baker lookalike
Milla’s voice sounds a lot more deeper than I expected.

…Is that Byrce Papenbrook voicing Jude?

  • Raiyu

Everyone sounds great, though Millia sounds too deep.

Not saying its bad but its deeper than I expected it to be. I wonder if we’ll get an LE for this game this time around.

  • Mar Mar

Not as bad as Graces F but yeah, we have no choice but to accept it.

  • PrinceHeir

also they did mention Dual Audio to Hideo Baba and he might consider it(though this is from October 2012 :)

    http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/10/04/tales-of-xillia-interview-namcos-rpg-series-gets-bigger-and-bigger/

“PSB: Many members of the PlayStation community would like to see an option to play the game with the original Japanese voice track. Is this something you’ve considered including?

HB: I receive so many requests from foreign players for Japanese voice tracks in the Western version! However, there are some difficulties with the company and the voice actors. That said, I will be considering the feasibility of it.”

    come on Namco DO IT!!!!!!

Ni No Kuni has it, Eternal Sonata has it, Soul Calibur Series has it, why not Tales too!?!?!?!

  • shogunknight

Wow!………ill still buy it. Its better than not having any localization. The game is really good

  • raneeeeek

Typical ungrateful Tales fans, the first thing they bitch about is not being able to swoon over some japanese guy they can’t even understand.

    • DrForbidden

Typical douchebag Tales fans, the first thing they bitch about is other people not liking some particular voice actors or prefering the original dub.

  • http://chaosraiden.blogspot.com/ Chaos Raiden

Doesn’t matter if the game has no dual-audio or not, I am still grateful that this game is translated in English.

  • epy

Maybe the english dub is really good but being soo accustumed to the japanese voices, it just sounds weird as hell, especially Millia.

  • Lyrics

I don’t get it… I love Japanese voice actors. I’ve been studying a lot about Japanese for almost 10 years now, so I’m also pretty good with the language. And yet, unlike most of you complaining children, I also can appreciate when English voice actors dub a JRPG. The point of the localization is to make it LOCALIZED, that includes the language.

These voice actors aren’t even that bad. And before you say anything about Milla, give her a chance, this is a just over 2 minute video, you can’t judge someone based on that.

The voice actors here captured the persona’s of each character almost perfectly, and you would know that if you actually sit back and try to understand how the creators intended them to be.

No, I’m not saying that dual audio is a bad idea. It is in fact, a great idea — but you people have to learn to stop complaining and thank Namco USA for allowing us to enjoy such an amazing game in (what I am assuming) our native language.

So seriously people. Shape the hell up.

    • BigDix

      Indeed.

    • DrForbidden

While I agree with most of your post, I would just like to point out that part of it is self-contradictory. In paragraph 2 you indicate that it is impossible to judge the performance of a particular actor in a 2-minute clip, and yet in the paragraph immediately following, you praise the actors for capturing the characters perfectly. In the same 2-minute clip?
I think it remains to be seen whether all of the English cast did a good job, but I’m sure at least some of them did. Standards have improved tremendously since the early 90s of dubbing.

      • Lyrics

Yeah… I guess so. I kinda feel like an idiot now haha. It would have made more sense if I turned it into my personal opinion — but if you’ve played the game, and you try to compare it with the past dubs with these characters in similar games (except Milla, I have no idea who is voicing her), you may probably agree with me in how they suit the persona’s quite well. But thanks, I was just in the heat of the moment, and was tired of hearing a lot of people complain about it, especially on the YouTube thread.

More i want more i missed so mutch, my last JRPD was Ni No Kuni its a god game but not like a original JRPG. Can´t wait for this one.

  • ~ハセヲさん~

For those who wonder if the game will have dual audio or not, you should read this (if you understand French): http://www.fr.namcobandaigames.eu/community/discussions/tales-of-xillia-a-propos-des-doublages/

  • Ace

Sweet, now all we need now is a solid release date.

  • vertical09

    Hype!~

I’m not as involved with VA’s and such as you guys, but the voices sound pretty nice to me. None of them sound forced at least.

And just….hype!! An I can’t wait until an english trailer comes out XD

  • fireemblembeast

Ugh! How did I miss this?! Its been out for 22 hours now! That’s what I get for assuming Siliconera will have the same news! I love this site the best! I’m so excited to watch I’m shaking and I dropped my iphone (its ok though) which btw has milla and jude on the cover!! Oh boy oh boy oh boy! I’m shaking like crazy!!! The game draws ever nearer!

    • Guest

It’s not on a handheld, so Siliconera will just ignore.

  • fireemblembeast

Ok so I actually like those voices! They fit really nicely, for the most part, especially Alvin! :) As much as I would like dual audio, I guess its ok with these voices, too… No harm done, except that Milla sounded too deep and serious, not deep but also light and refreshing like Miyuki Sawashiro (I know, I know; no dub can do her justice). Also, Jude’s voice was just slightly too deep for me. I would have liked to see a cutscene instead of just battles, too.

  • AdamBoy64

Will certainly have to pick up on launch to support sales.

And probably end up playing it… lolz, in a couple of years probably.
I’m still to play the games I bought in 2011.

  • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

    I like everyone’s voices but for Millia… She’s too deep…

Could have gone with FFXIII’s Lightning’s VA but I can’t complain much, can I?

  • DarthNemesis

Taking too long to bring it to the US. Not interested any more ad after playing No No Kuni ToX looks really outdated and old.

the release date in that web say its December 31, 2013

    • ~ハセヲさん~

      Placeholder.

  • LordKaiser

    All I need is a release date. I don’t like Millia’s voice.
