Not sure if you all know this but the voice actor for Sima Yi from the Dynasty Warrior series passed away last week due to an accident.

Anyway here’s a wallpaper I made to commemorate his departure

    • Potionzmaster

Though I don’t know the person in question, it’s always said when someone from the industry passes away :(

    • Archvile78

Sima Yi will never be the same again without his epic laugh.

      R.I.P.

    • Kobracon

      OMG no D:

Aw man… R.I.P. His voice and laugh will be missed….

    • DrForbidden

Not a fan, but I hope he rests in peace and his loved ones find the strength to carry on.

  • Potionzmaster

I have a really hard time concentrating on studying for my exam next monday. Anyone got any tips? :D

    • zakou

Ditch gaming and gaming websites like this for some time, the best way to study is to study and only study and not not study xD

Edit: But this is a paradox since if you did ditch the gaming news site like this one, you would never have gotten an awesome tip like my one.

      • Potionzmaster

But then again, I wouldn’t need any advice in that case. Anyway, I think I’ll just brutally force my mind to concentrate on studying. Thx ^_^

        • zakou

Lols true indeed but don’t force it, nothing good comes out by forcing it, try to enjoy studying, i don’t know how but find a way.

Think of it as life insurance and guarantee for being able to buy more games in the future and better TV and stuff as good study result in a good job and a good job result in more money for games/systems/anime on blu-ray etc! xD

          • Potionzmaster

Thx for all the advice! Who said gaming (and the gaming community) was counterproductive for your marks :P

        • Archvile78

You could always try to study in a place where you know you won’t get distracted like inside a library or something.

    • Haku_Luvs_You

Take a nap and wing it.

Hello everyone! I missed last weeks open forum, sorta… I should be back in full effect this week. =)

    How is everyone?

    • zakou

I’m pretty good but a little disappointed with Naruto Storm 3, it was good and all but felt really short, i can’t belive i played it for 19 hours and already did everything there is to do in the game :(

But for the good part, i’m veeeeery happy that we will get Drakengard 3, i was really hoping for Cavia to return but seems like most of the staff from Cavia or at least NieR devs are making D3 so yay!

      How about you?

      • http://twitter.com/GematsuZero Zero

I haven’t gotten to pick up UNS 3 yet. Sucks that it was shorter than expected, the trailers made it look like the game had so much to do.

I’m doing pretty good, thanks. Getting over a cold.

        • zakou

Oh right… Sorry if i spoiled anything xD but don’t worry the game is very good, it is as good and in some parts better than UNS2, it is very umm, story-heavy.

But since i enjoyed it so much the time just flew by i guess. A cold you say? It is something that is very common with me xD i hope you get better soon and pick up that UNS3, i’m sure you will like it a lot! I hope lol :P

          • http://twitter.com/GematsuZero Zero

Nah, you didn’t spoil anything, no problem at all. Good friend of mine actually texted me a while ago, said he got UNS 3. I’m sure I’ll get a chance to play it fairly soon, even if I can’t actually buy it. ^^

        • PrinceHeir

          ehh you’ve got a cold :

          get well soon!!

          • http://twitter.com/GematsuZero Zero

            Thanks. =)

For the record, I’m feeling better now.

      • DichaTesoro

My brother and I finished up the story parts of Ninja Storm 3 in a few days but are still enjoying the multiplayer with friends—not the online stuff. Can’t wait to take it in to work to play with all the kids. It may just be me, but I feel like it has good replay value in multiplayer.

        • zakou

Yes the tournament mode is really fun in the online mode, that is what you should play after beating the story.

    • 新阿修羅(ShinAsura)

Doing good here, was made an admin for a Senran Kagura page on Facebook and I didn’t even have to ask , guess they saw I like the show

Preordered a few imports too like God dimension Idol Neptune PP, looking forward to that one

      • http://twitter.com/GematsuZero Zero

        Congrats! =)

        • 新阿修羅(ShinAsura)

          Thanks :)

    • Kurisu Makise

Anxiously awaiting my copy of Atelier Ayesha to be sent to me. Friend picked it up and mailed it out to me the other day. Haven’t been able to pick up Tomb Raider or UNS3 yet and I’m sure I’ll be a bit late to the Neptunia party but I’ve finally secured some money for those games and I’m waiting on it to come in end of the month/early april. This hobby is really rough sometimes. I’ll have to put plans for pursuit of a Vita into late April though as I’ve got to pay for school stuff for the fall. Just a little advice for everyone who’s somewhat young here, don’t wait till your my age to go back to school -__-; (or to finally get into school if you’re on that road)

      • http://twitter.com/GematsuZero Zero

I picked up Tomb Raider, thanks to having it paid off for months now. I haven’t had the chance to play it yet. =/

I hear ya on how video games can be expensive. This March is one of the more brutal months in recent gaming memory. Quite a bit of high profile games slated for this month.

I’m still trying to save up for a vita as well, I share your frustrations. >_>

        • Kurisu Makise

The other thought looming on my mind concerning Vita is I’d hate to finally have my money ready, only for Sony to announce a revised Vita. I would…flip a few tea tables. Then again, knowing I will be spending an amount which could have net me said Vita this month is disappointing in itself.

      • zakou

About this Naruto and Tomb Raider thing xD i have had a really hard time deciding what to get, i got Naruto just because im a huge fan and played the previous two games and wanted to see more story.

I could have gotten both but i need to buy clothes as well, this hobby is really expensive xD i think this is the only hoppy that drains “all the time” we have and “most of our money” because more and more good games come out more often.

And lol at the part with school xD i’m not sure how old you are but i have a guess and i think we are in the same boat xD lmao.

        • Kurisu Makise

Your guess is probably accurate honestly (I’m not really too old, just feel old xD). As for picking between the two…hmm, it comes down to how patient you were. I think if you want Tomb Raider, waiting until April/May and snagging it for a little cheaper isn’t bad. However if you’ve got to be there Day 1 or close to Day 1 then well, I guess you do what you got to do.

You are right that we’ve got a lot more choice these days. I looked back on my old game purchases and saw one company’s name reoccurring ..want to take a stab at which company that was xD? Now I’ve got a healthier spread and much better taste since I was willing to get out the comfort zone, which means gotta spend more, if only game costs would go DOWN next gen =( $20 really is a sweet spot price for me =

          • zakou

Yupp now that is something I would say myself so now I’m almost sure that we are the same age haha.

Yeah when the decision is based on two really amazing games then it also comes down to which game is more important to You, in Naruto’s case I love the story so already it’s more important xD but TR isn’t going anywhere and i will probably get it next month.

Also games have gotten really cheap imo, I used to buy them for crazy price like 70 bucks aka 699 kr Swedish Crowns for “standard versions” however then someone told me about Webhallen a Swedish retailer for games and electronics and they sold games 20-25% cheaper compared to other retaielrs.

Today however I buy games from amazon, TR was like 32 pounds new there but i got Naruto for 40 pounds, the best part is the free shipping if You buy stuff worth over 25 pounds.

About Your old games I will take a guess and say Square Soft/Enix?

            • Kurisu Makise

Hit the nail on the head. The biggest Squaresoft/Square Enix fangirl you’ve ever SEEN. That was my whole gaming life/collection in my teens. So embarrassing >< Now the company is so ugh frustrating. It's also nice when you discover ways to get games for cheaper, Amazon being really good after release (plus you can still get them new and support devs). I learned a lot in recent years, I owe a good chunk of that knowledge to GAF funny enough.

Once I snag my copy of UNS3 and TR, I hope we'll be able to play together (I assume PAL/NA isn't a problem in those games).

              • zakou

Lols I used to be the same, my PS1-PS2 era was Square Soft/Enix only. Almost every Square game used to be in my collection.

That changed when PSP and PS3 came out so I guess we are very much alike. Sure I’ll spar with you in UNS3 :3 and when I get TR, should be soon then we can play whatever there is to do online there xD

                • Kurisu Makise

All I wanted multiplayer wise in TR was co-op and I don’t recall hearing much about that Q.Q But yes good spars in UNS3, I’m down for that. I’m dying to get my mits on Naruto’s updated character.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dylan-Ng/100000854638739 Dylan Ng

Pretty fine. Got a 35/40 for a quiz. SAO:IM looks so fun/awesome to play even in video form *_* Why u no in english.

  • DichaTesoro

So if I say “First!” would that be annoying? Though…I’ll probably not be first.
Anyway, Hello everyone! I hope you all will have a good weekend!

  • Azuardo

Finished Tales of the Abyss. Overall a decent enough game but nothing spectacular. Tales fans will of course enjoy it plenty, but it really wasn’t anything special to me. It took far too long to even get good – everything was just too cliché and predictable. I need my RPGs to really be offering something different now, rather than the usual stuff. That’s probably why Persona 4 is the best JRPG I’ve played in recent years. I’m still glad I played through Abyss, though. Was still a good game :)

Just glad I’ve got my backlog down to only 3 games now. Banjo Tooie, Sly Cooper 3 and Agarest 2 left. Not quite sure if I’ll make much progress this week, but I really would like to finish Banjo soon. I’ve been completely occupied with DOA5 still. Never been an amazing fighting game player but I’m making an effort to try and become a respectable Kasumi player. Slowly getting there!

Good games with PrinceofXIII online, too!

  • Bloodios

I want the previous Drakengard games to be remastered in HD and released in the West without anyone BSifying them with stupid censorstrikes. I want to re-experience all that morbid madness all over again…

    • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

I haven’t played any of them, so I would appreciate this.

    • 新阿修羅(ShinAsura)

People are already comparing Drag-On to Nier, are they similar?

      • Bloodios

One of the endings of the original Drakengard led to the events found in Nier. Both Drakengard and Nier are quite morbid, but the former is a bit more disturbing.

        • 新阿修羅(ShinAsura)

          Ahh ok, thanks

        • DrForbidden

Hmm. I don’t find Nier to be morbid at all. It’s a sad story, but at the same time a very beautifully told tale about a father’s (or brother’s) willingness to do anything to save his daughter (or sister).

    • DrForbidden

Honestly (and it disappoints me as well), I don’t expect that to happen at all. Possible Spoilers below:

Caim/Furiae and Arioch are not insurmountable problems with a hard M rating, methinks, but the biggest problem with the first game is Leonard. With the current climate of pedophiliac fear-mongering in the US and Catholic Churches worldwide still being rocked with pederasty accusations on a monthly basis, I very much doubt that any publisher in the western world will touch Drakengard uncut.

Yeah, it sucks. Yet another example of video games not being treated as art by the world at large.

    • zakou

Wanting Drakengard to be remastered in HD huh? Somehow that sounds more crazy than wanting Xenosaga trilogy remastered in HD :P

But it would be a nice addition yes however both games sold like shit all over the world combined and if they didn’t have that Square Enix logo on them then very little people here would even know what Drakengard is lol.

That is why i was so shocked of Drakengard 3 annoucement and just because of that there might be a chance of us getting the HD remasters, just like many games did this gen with sly, tomb raider and etc.

    • LordKaiser

The 1rst one needs the framerate fixed and the 2nd one needs to be re-textured. Simply up-scaling and anti-aliasing them will not do good. Also the 1rst game needs optimization because is very resource hungry.

  • AnimusVox

    Nice choice of link image.

  • Haku_Luvs_You

Sooo close to my first ever platinum trophy. So I hope to get it soon, though I haven’t played the game mentioned (Senran Kagura) in a couple days. So with that, I will ask what everyone else is playing?

    I GOT IT!!!! :)

    • AnimusVox

I’ve been playing ‘Fire Emblem: Awakening’ and ‘Tomb Raider’
And good luck with the plat.

I don’t have a ton of time for gaming these days, but I’m making my way through SMT: Devil Summoner on the PS2 right now.

  • 新阿修羅(ShinAsura)

I think Sony is holding off on the VITA in the US until the PS4 hits in November. They tried the traditional route of games but with the market so spread out across tablets and smartphones it’s going to be different than it is in Japan where there’s really only the PSP, 3DS, and the VITA.

With the functionality they showed during the preview event the VITA will become more of a utility than what people perceive it to be now. Using the reverse approach just way work this time, they’ve never really had cross play down as good as it looked during the demonstration

    • Kurisu Makise

My concern with this strategy is that it means Sony’s western arm gets off with not having to push the system nearly as hard. I’m not satisfied with just Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty. More big franchises should make the portable jump, as well as new IP. I’m okay with the C and B tier teams, just give them some breathing room to try out something new. Surely it costs less to do something on Vita versus risking it big on consoles.

I also think Sony could learn a little from Nintendo. Might as well start publishing the smaller Japanese developers games for them. People are hungry for content, last time they let people starve on PSP for a little while…I’d like them not to repeat that error.

      • Skerj

They also need to open up that PlayStation Mobile SDK to allow full usage of Vita’s capabilities. A lot of people went the iOS route because it was 99 bucks for a developer’s license and then you’re good. Sony has the 99 dollar thing but they locked the system down to allow PSM games to be cross platform.

Giving smaller developers a hand at a relatively powerful handheld with hardware controls and the other 90 things crammed into the system will give it a needed software boost.

        • 新阿修羅(ShinAsura)

          Nice info

        • Elvick

That defeats the purpose of PS Mobile. It’s meant to provide a platform to hit Android devices and Vita easily. With less mess in jumping into the Play Store with the bajillion devices out there that people will want supported, and complain about when support for it is crappy.

Indies can self-publish on Vita already. So they can just have at it if they want to make a Vita game. If not, stick to PS mobile.

        • Kurisu Makise

Excellent point Skerj, this needs to happen and not just for Vita, but for the future of the industry. The first hardware maker to truly let indies run relatively free (I personally don’t see the hate about at least having a little office space, for security purposes admittedly and good image), the more new game concepts we can have. Lots of power is being offered up both in the form of Vita and next gen with PS4/Xbox next but bigger companies don’t risk it the way little people do, so it won’t fully be explored.

    • Elvick

I don’t. I think we’ll see it in April, when conveniently Soul Sacrifice launches just like in Japan where the time frame matches the Japanese price drop and SS release month (14 months after launch).

  • almostautumn

Got slammed with tests today; three out of my four classes. Know what? My lowest grade was an 85 :) I earned these 12 beers and 6 hours of Killzone 3 today, and it feels good.

I found someone state interesting fact behind the name of Moby Dick studio, thought about sharing with everyone.

Moby Dick is written by Herman Melville. The name was adopted by Jean-Pierre Melville because Herman was Jean’s favorite author.

And the film Jean-Pierre directed in 1950 was Les Enfants Terribles.

Because Kojima is a hard movie fan, I don’t think this is mere coincidence.

    • http://twitter.com/GematsuZero Zero

Nice find. I don’t think its a coincidence either. =)

    • Solomon_Kano

Oh snap. Nice find. Kojima got creative with that.

    • Kobracon

Knowing Kojima…yeah thats hardly a coincidence. Good find!

  • Azuardo

I downloaded the JP demo of Project Diva F on PS3 today. Looks so damn good on the big screen. Massive difference over the PSP games. Only problem I’ve had is that it’s so colourful that sometimes the background movie obscures the locations of the button icons. Still has the exact same awesome addictive gameplay, though :D With the recent Facebook campaign, I really hope they release it in the west!

One month till I Graduate my Game Design course. Now comes the hard part….

Anyone have any ideas on how one goes about getting a job at a game company?

    • Pekola

What does game design entail, exactly? More specifically, what did you learn?

Also, maybe try Gamasutra? Dunno how else to help beyond that.

      • Kobracon

Well game design entails the conception of the whole game basically. They are somewhat akin to film directors. They discuss game ideas with the team, tell them what is needed, look at what was done, if its not to their idea, they tell the guys what to fix and repeat.

    • zakou

Come to Sweden an work for Dice :3

    • DesmaX

Congratulations on graduating!! Unfortunately, I can’t really help you with that second part. Maybe talk to your instructor about it??
      Good luck anyway!!

  • RedWolfe

So after years of desiring one for no real good reason, I recently acquired a fightstick. The Mad Catz SFxT one was on sale and I’ve heard nothing but good things about Mad Catz quality recently (they’ve come a long way) so I bit.

    It’s pictured below.

I’ve been playing with it for about a week now and well…this transitional phase (from a pad) is quite frustrating. I pretty much can’t do any of my more advanced combos and I’ve even been dropping many of my basic BnBs.

It pretty much feels like starting and learning how to play all together because instead of using your thumbs, you have to use your wrist to move the stick and your fingertips to hit the buttons along with re-memorizing the placement of the buttons.

I played with a friend of mind today and he pretty much told me that he went through the same thing when he transitioned but once you do, you won’t want to go back, which is also something I’ve heard in various forums as well. Words of encouragement sorely needed because on Day 1 I was pretty much ready to give up and sell this thing.

Anyway, I just felt like sharing that.

Also if anyone would like to play or something they can add me on.

PSN: Red_Wolf92. Let me know your from Gematsu in your FR message.

I’ve mainly playing P4A and Ultimate Marvel lately but I’ve started to get into Blazblue CSE and KOF XIII. So yeah, peace.

    • Kobracon

I know the feeling. I’m quite comfortable with my controller but one time there was a free for all in a convention I went to (SF4 I believe) and they only had arcade sticks. I gave it a go, and embarrassingly enough, I couldn’t even pull off Ryu’s Hadouken :P

I wouldn’t mind some P4A or UMvC (not the best mind, but I enjoy fighters). Although that depends on where you are and your tolerance to lag XD

      • RedWolfe

Haha, yeah. I’m decent myself but wouldn’t say I’m THAT good. The phrase “There’s always someone better” seems to hold true when it comes to fighting games.

I enjoy playing, though, win or lose.

I’m on the East Coast and as long as it’s casual, a little lag won’t hurt.

        • Kobracon

Ah US huh…..lol I guess the lag will be far from little XD I’m in asia. More specifically, Malaysia.

    • DrForbidden

Abso-bloody-lutely true, mate. I’ve had my Hori stick for several years now, and once you start on a decent fighting stick, you will never want to go back to playing fighting games on a standard controller…

      • RedWolfe

One good thing to come out of this already is the fact that I don’t get crud (gamer gunk) all over my pad after an intense fighting game session, hehe.

I’m looking forward to the day when this becomes natural.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

        • DrForbidden

You’re welcome, dude. One other thing about fightsticks I forgot to mention. Maybe it’s because I’m getting old, or because I have a job that has heavy usage of pipetting, but I find that after an intensive week of playing on the controller, my right thumb joint really aches. With a fighting stick, I can temporarily switch to playing a fighting game to take the load off my thumb for the following week in order to allow it to recover. The fightstick allows me to basically reduce overusage of my thumb joints, an increasing problem among longtime gamers,

  • DrForbidden

In addition to Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus, I am currently also playing Sinper Ghost Warrior 2 on my X360. Definitely not a high-budget production, but for a USD40 sniping simulator, it’s not a bad game at all.

what are you guys planning on spring break(if you have one)

already finished Metal Gear Rising, Fist of the North Star Ken’s Rage 2, and just finish Stage 5 of Catherine(SOO GOOD)

on break, i’ll probably do my research project, but for games i’ll definitely finished up Metal Gear Rising(Fully Upgrade everything), replay Catherine again for higher score and dare i say hard mode? :)

though mostly i’ll be watching anime’s and reading manga.

gonna watch Chihayafuru 2 to catch up ^^

and JoJo Manga to refreshen a bit for me :)

hopefully they will announce a secret announcement that they will contiune the anime and animate it to JoJolion.

i want to see Jotaru and Stardust Crusaders arc in HD!!!

    • z_merquise

Man, I haven’t played Catherine for more than a year now. I was stuck in that giant monster who looked like an ass (literally) who fire pink smoke or something. Forgot what stage was that.

Never got much time to play with the PS3 (as much as I wanted to play) but recently, I only play Metal Gear Rising. I’m already in my 4th playthrough in Very Hard.

Good thing I got 3DS and Vita that I can play during break time at work or in the train ride. So yeah, most of my playtime recently are in portables.

You already got a 3DS right? I really really recommend Fire Emblem: Awakening. It’s really good.

      • PrinceHeir

I had a talk with my friend about Metal Gear Rising and how he’s surprised to see in the internet that the game can be beaten in just few hours. He find in not worth the money due to the game’s length. Then I told him that that’s how action games like MG Rising are meant to be, played multiple times, challenging higher difficulties while unlocking stuff, etc. I guess he is not convinced on what I said or it’s just action games in the same vein of Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden and Bayonetta aren’t his thing.

Good thing he understood that replay value is what I wanted and it just happened that MG Rising had that. It seems that he’s more on Japanese RPGs because he’s currently playing Ni No Kuni and he’s looking forward to the latest Tales game (Tales of Xillia, right?). And as we all know, RPGs generally very long with hours and hours of story and gameplay.

How about the others here? Do you bother on a game’s length? Do you end up not purchasing a game if you found (in the internet or to someone else) that the length of a single playthrough is very short, even if that game is actually meant to be played many times?

    • MosquitoLemon

I don’t care if a game is short if the mechanics are fun. I don’t care about whether or not something ‘should be’ played multiple times or if it has multiple difficulties, because fun is fun. You shouldn’t need to have an incentive to play a game regardless of the length.

From what I understand of Metal Gear Rising, the game itself is really fun, but the mechanics get really repetitive, so even if you play through multiple times, you probably won’t keep playing after you’ve ‘finished everything’. Contrast that with a shmup, which might only have 6 stages and take 40 minutes to beat… you’ll still want to play over and over, either for score or just the fact that shmups are fun.

Since my allowance only allows one game per month, I’m picky about the game length. If it’s a game like MGR, I’d rather trade one of my purchased games for it.

But I did buy Vanquish Day 1

    • Elvick

Most people these days play a game to beat it. And that’s it.

They wouldn’t care if they played games for fun, because if a game is fun, you’ll… you know, play it even after beating it. Like people did all the time back in the day.

Here waiting for Tuesday to buy Dragon’s Crown on PSN.

  • InternatlGamer3

I own both Drakengard 1 & 2 and have beaten them both. As far as XenoSaga HD that’d be nice but as i own the trilogy for PS2 obviously. I like XenoSaga but would be excited if XenoGears was Remade in collaboration with some of the original developers.

    XenoGears Fan for life
Btw has anyone else noticed that Jr. In Xenosaga with his guns reminds me of “Billy Lee Black” from XenoGears

At the Final boss in Ni No Kuni right now its a 3 part boss battle.

  • Elvick

Beat Spec Ops: The Line today. Good gravy… dem endings.

Don’t know if I’ll go for the platinum or not, it seems doable with no goofy trophies, but I had enough problems on normal. Probably just get the remaining non-difficulty related trophies and be done with it. Unless I feel compelled to play the game again.

New Phantom Pain teaser from GT! Doesnt show much (i.e. nothing at all) but contains morse code message.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dlqFSBMEv0

Message- GENERATING IMAGE HOLD SCNEARIO LOADING HOLD ACTIVATE PHANTOM PAIN DOT MEME HOLD ERROR ERROR ERROR ERROR

EDIT: Dont know if legit or not, saw it on vg247 and thought it was GT itself, however upon further inspection, it seems to be from a user on GT purporting to be Joakim Mogren, and a user on the site has linked to a youtube video in 2008 with almost the exact same footage, so alas, take with a grain of salt, and sorry for getting anyones hopes up :(

Guess we’ll find our for sure in two weeks when we are poised to learn “the truth” about TPP.
