Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon tops the charts.

This week’s Media Create sales charts are in. At 280,000 sales, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon for 3DS is the top seller this week. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 on PlayStation 3 came in second, selling 274,000 units. The PS Vita version is the fifth best-seller this week, selling 60,000 units.

On the hardware side, PS Vita is back on top this week. Sort of. While it sits at the top of the charts at 41,000 sales, combined sales of both 3DS SKUs still outweigh PS Vita sales by about 39,000 units.

  • HeatPhoenix

eh… D2’s sales… hmm, anyone got numbers comparing it to D4’s first week?

    • nyobzoo

Yea overall not as good, I suppose the shouldn’t have released it in the same time as a Mario game and an one piece game

    • uhawww

A lot of NIS PS3 releases have hovered in the 50k range in recent years, which is definitely a drop in aggregates overall. Hopefully they aren’t deterred to continue localizing them.

    • Spirate

Supposedly it has the second-lowest opening of any mainline Disgaea game.

    • zweii

      Disgaea 4 – 79,425

And it seems D3 sold 100K LTD and Disgaea 2 around 150K

[3DS] Dead or Alive 5 Plus (Tecmo Koei, 03/20/13) – 13,291 (New) Mistake? I think its Vita Version

    • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

      Yep. Fixed!

      • Kickersu18

        Thank you!

  • Gammer21

Surprised that vita is still up there at top lol even after luigi and pokemon they still can’t beat the vita..

    • OlimacFTW

What is 40.924 + 35.629? The answer will surprise you!
Anyway, very good sales for Luigi´s Mansion.

I think he meant each console individually. In any case it completely disproves the theory that the Vita sales would drop dramatically over the coming weeks which is what ppl like Stealth were suggesting. Great numbers for LM2 and OP2 though. Didn’t expect the vita version to sell so much as well.

        • Dragon24680

Agree. I was also people stealthy downplaying Vita sales and hoping that it will drop soon. Losers.

      • Gammer21

I was counting them individually so yes the vita did beat the 3ds.

        • HeatPhoenix

But they’re just different hardware revisions of the same console, should we split the Wifi and 3G versions too?

          • Gammer21

Sorry didn’t mean to down vote you and no I don’t think so

    • http://xcite79.1up.com Keegs79

Still can’t beat the Vita? I am happy with the strong Vita sales that just proves it has staying power but I am not disillusional. How can you see it beating the 3DS when both 3DS system have easily outsold the Vita? You won’t to count them individually? That would be spinning things like politics.

  • Noctis_nox

    Nice! Vita increased it’s sales.

Great sales for LM 2 and good sales for OP 2 but

Great! numbers for Vita OP 2.

  • Spirate

Soul Sacrifice dropped a lot faster than expected; hopefully that DLC can give it a boost.

  • Dragon24680

Great to see Vita holding there!
I wonder if Sony should introduce a cheaper Vita version to match the pricing of 3ds , since Vita is already surpassing 3dsll easily. It may help getting some price conscious customers. But on the other hand, Vita hardware is waaaay better than 3ds, so I hope people see value i that.

  • zweii

Mirror of Fate bomb! And OP2 lag way behind the first 650K week 1 sales.

  • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

One Piece sales are very surprising, especially considering the first game opened at 627,214 sales.

    • http://twitter.com/Ogechiogbe Dede Ogbe

Then again there isn’t anything massively different about this version and ppl know that. Where as the first one was the first ever one piece game to make it on to the ps3. I think they made a mistake releasing the game now. It would have been better if they released a sequel every 2 years or something, more content that way, and the aniticipation for game is higher

    • Anime10121

Agreed, though I never understood why it opened at such high numbers to begin with. Well I guess maybe its part being One Piece, and the other part Musou which sales generally well in Japan. But this one opening to less than half? Wonder what happened.

    • 真紅太刀 (ShinkuTachi)

It also has to be considered that the last 4 weeks have been HUGE for gaming. One of the biggest months in recent years actually. I would say timing is a factor here. We should wait and see what week two and week three tells us.

    • Solomon_Kano

Even more so, considering it apparently topped 500k in pre-orders. So… did half of the people who pre-ordered not pay the game off? Or…?

      • http://gamewise.co/ Nick Pantazis

When Japan reports preorder numbers they’re reporting retail preorders. I.e. how many units did retailers order before launch. I realize this is confusing because the US does the opposite, and reports user preorders.

  • refrain

    Meruru’s sale is that bad?

  • Kurisu Makise

Wow, some interesting sales results. Nice to see Vita is still selling (well). Really shocked about One Piece’s debut, though the numbers would be much higher, what with over 500k preorders, things aren’t adding up. Currently the combined SKUs are 334940. I’m wondering if there was shipment issues. In which case, both versions might have do more next week. The last two shockers are Meruru+ release. For some reason I felt it was already out, now I’m wondering when Tecmo Koei EU/NA will stealth release it >>; Then there’s Soul Sacrifice, still selling! Come on word of mouth, if all goes well, this could surpass Miku. They should also consider once the sales flatline of releasing either a “The Best” variation or Soul Sacrifice G version and see how far they can ride things. Except this time, a G version could be obtained with DLC and a repackaging.

  • MrKappa

Disgaea bombs and Luigi sells more than One Piece? What the hell kind of world am I living in?

    • HeatPhoenix

      best one.

Though I guess Disgaea bombing is a bit odd since it’s the return of fan-favorite Laharl… maybe they’re just getting tired of same old, same old?
