I’m extremely disappointed as well as I see that this console will go with AMD and drop the cell instead of making a socket or slot for the cell so you can buy the CPU separately and install it to have a BC console.

I don’t have intensives to buy a next gen console.

Yeah, I agree. The PS3 definitely has more than the other home consoles in quantity (and I loved Valkyria Chronicles), so I really don’t understand why it gets so much flack about JRPGs – the genre has mostly moved to portables.

I can kind of see why people complain about its JRPG library compared to the PS2, PS1 or SNES though, which I think are vastly superior in quality (for most releases, but not necessarily all) and quantity.

That said, if the PS4 doesn’t have a lot of must-have Japanese games, then I won’t buy it. I think the Vita and 3DS have me covered there…

So to address a few points:

1) The Last Guardian is not an RPG. =)

2) I’d say PS3 was the best console for RPGs this gen (but you’ll defo need a Wii for The Last Story, Pandora’s Tower, and Xenoblade), so I’m not sure what you’re talking about. If we look at PS3, specifically, there’s: Ni no Kuni, Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, Eternal Sonata, Folklore, Disgaea 3, Disgaea 4, Atelier Rorona, Atelier Totori, Atelier Meruru, Neptunia, Neptunia Mk2, Mugen Souls, Record of Agarest War Zero, Record of Agarest War 2, Tales of Graces F, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Nier, Star Ocean 4, Resonance of Fate, White Knight Chronicles, White Knight Chronicles II, and some more I probably missed. And still to come there’s Atelier Ayesha, Tales of Xillia, Tales of Xillia 2 (if Namco decides to localize it) Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory, Toki to Towa, The Witch and the Hundred Knights, Mugen Souls Z, Kingdom Hearts HD, The God and the Fate Revolution Paradox, Final Fantasy X HD, Final Fantasy Versus XIII (unless it’s jumped to next-gen), Disgaea D2, and Dragon’s Crown.

3) I doubt the developers foresaw the technical difficulties they’ve run into when they first announced the game. At one point, the game was dated for a holiday 2011 release. They had clear intention to release the game. But then it was delayed for quality concerns. And then the difficulties came along.

VS XIII may as well be FFXV, and hopefully SE realizes that and renames it to distance itself from the damaged brand that is FFXIII.

Annnnd, this was announced with XIII. So, I don’t know what your issue is with it.

I’m never going to be able to play this game am I? You know with the block used games thing going on, that and not even bothering with a PlayStation 4. Hell they didn’t even fix the problems the PlayStation 3 has. I’m very, very disappointed.

It was also a reason why I got PS3. This was one of the earlier RPGs being shown off for the PS3 and it still isn’t out yet, it’s a massive disappointment.

I probably won’t be getting a PS4 myself as I found PS3 to be a big disappointment (as an RPG gamer), no purpose in dropping a few hundred dollars on a console that will only have a handful of good JRPGs (each of which will cost almost another hundred dollars).

I’m sure fanbois will come in hear and say something like “herpaderp it takes time to make a good game!” but then maybe devs shouldn’t announce games several years in advance.
