It's time to play "What game is studio X working on?"

All thirteen of Sony’s Worldwide Studios are working on PlayStation 4 titles, studio boss Shuhei Yoshida has said.

Asked by IGN if it would be “fair to say” all first-party studios are working on PlayStation 4 titles, Yoshida responded: “Is it fair or not fair? It is fair to say.”

You’ll find all thirteen of Sony’s studios listed below. Currently, only four have announced PlayStation 4 projects.

Studios: Europe

  • Guerrilla Games: Over 160 staff. Known for the Killzone series. Currently developing Killzone: Shadow Fall for PlayStation 4.
  • Guerrilla Cambridge: Known for the MediEvil series and the upcoming Killzone: Mercenary for PlayStation Vita.
  • Evolution Studios: Known for the MotorStorm series. Currently developing Driveclub for PlayStation 4.
  • London Studio: Known for the SingStar and Eye (EyeToy, EyePet) series, and the studio behind PlayStation 3′s canceled Eight Days and The Getaway.
  • Media Molecule: Known for the LittleBigPlanet series and the upcoming Tearaway for PlayStation Vita.

Studios: Japan

  • Japan Studio: Over 400 staff. Known for titles like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Siren, Demon’s Souls, and White Knight Chronicles. Currently developing Knack (and possibly The Last Guardian) for PlayStation 4.
  • Polyphony Digital: Known for the Gran Turismo series.

Studios: USA

  • Bend Studio: Known for the Syphon Filter series and Uncharted: Golden Abyss for PS Vita.
  • Foster City Studio:  A co-developer across various Sony franchises.
  • Naughty Dog: Two-team studio. Known for the Uncharted and Jak series, and the upcoming The Last of Us for PlayStation 3.
  • San Diego Studio: Known for the MLB: The Show series.
  • Santa Monica Studio: Known for the God of War series.

In the case of Guerilla Cambridge, most likely they’re assisting with Shadow Fall and perhaps making some connectivity with Mercenary? In the case of Bend though…they’re supposed to be working on a Vita project so I don’t think they’re doing anything for PS4 admittedly. We’ll see though, it’d be kind of cool if they got to do a console project again.

This could mean anything really. It could mean they’re helping other developers, it could mean they’re doing a PSN game, it could mean they’re working on ideas or pitches that could never see the light of day (see tons of canned first party PS3 games). It’s not really a specific statement.

I could see Bend put out a PSN game on PS4 and still manage to release a Vita title. I mean, they were able to work on Uncarded while still working on their other project.

Wasn’t there another dev on the card game though? My understanding was that they handled most of the development with Bend contributing to get it working with GA.

Maybe. I haven’t played it in awhile. *shrug*

          I guess we’ll see eventually.

This is quite true though I’m not sure if Yoshida would include projects only in the pitch stage. When you hear a statement like that, you’re automatically thinking of projects approved by him to start. Also, Solomon’s right, Uncarded (hehe) was done by another studio with assistance from Bend to link in GA.

I can’t wait to see what all these awesome studios have to offer.

I’m PRAYING Santa Monica’s got a new IP on the cards. I love GOW but, with Ascenscion covering Kratos’ earlier years, we’re pretty much done. Not that they aren’t large enough now to alternate, which I wouldn’t mind.

I’m doubtful Bend actually has a PS4 project going since they’ve been Sony’s most valuable portable studio, but it would be exciting to have them back in the console arena.

Speaking of portable studios moving to consoles, I’m still waiting to hear what Ready at Dawn’s been toiling away on. They did some of the best work on PSP with GOW, so I’m excited to see them hit consoles. They were hiring for a AAA console game and then their head popped in the PS4 dev video, so I’d like to see what they’ve been up to.

Bend Studio are kinda small to be working on PS4 projects. Aren’t they already working on another handheld (Vita) game anyway?

    • Solomon_Kano

Considering their role, I think Foster City could feasibly provide the boost in staff for Bend to work on PS4. That said, yea, I was pretty sure Bend had another Vita game. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

  • Prodigy-X

Awesome!!!! E3 can’t come soon enough.

  • Bloodios

Here’s hoping that they’ll all be launch titles (aside from Gran Turismo of course…) I need that powerful launch lineups.

By the way, I wonder if Polyphony Digital would release an enhanced version of Gran Turismo 5 for the PlayStation 4, just to give us a glimpse at what Gran Turismo 6 might be like.

I swear if an Ape Escape game isn’t announced soon, be it for PS3 or PS4, hell, even Vita, I’ll be very very sad.
