An "evolutionized HD EyeToy," claims website.

PlayStation 4 will have a new, “evolutionized HD EyeToy,” according to sources of video game leaks VGLeaks.

Known as the “Dual Camera,” it uses a pair of “wide-angle cameras,” each offering 720p resolution, and processes sound by a “4 microphone array working at 48 khz.”

The device is said to be able to recognize the user and log into the system, and can be used for video chat. It can apparently also track your hands and head as new game inputs. Though, it’s not clear if the deice supports body tracking, such as Kinect.

According to the website, it will almost surely be bundled with every PlayStation 4.

What’s with the cameras and stuff, I don’t want too video chat with random people, that’s what I got friends for… And I will take a controller over playing games that require movement of any kind :-)

    • http://www.hypeup.net/ Random

      Amen. No More motion control.

    • DesmaX

You could swear at people while playing online without needing to buy a Headset

      • http://twitter.com/Kinbushi Richard Tooth

        Haha good point!

    • Elvick

Sony’s had a camera since PS2, and almost all of this generation on PS3.

It’s not a big deal. They don’t shove it down your throat. If they did, you wouldn’t be acting like this is something new for PlayStation.

And who said video chat would be with random people? Implying you couldn’t video chat with… friends instead. Silly argument.

Well if you are required? to sign in with it, I would say that’s kinda forcing it down your throat right? Don’t get me wrong, it appeals to some people, just not me :-) also I don’t think I could play a game and video chat at the same time. I prefer people not talking to me when I’m playing a game, kinda distracting haha.

“They don’t shove it down your throat.”
Not shoving it down our throats? If it’s bundled in with the system, we have to pay for it, regardless of whether we plan to use it or let it gather dust in the garage. That is the very definition of shoving it down people’s throats. With the PS2 and PS3 cameras, I can choose not to buy it unless I want to.

and do you think that all people are hardcore like you? casual audience is very important to the business too, just acept this

      • http://twitter.com/Kinbushi Richard Tooth

Hardcore? When did I say I has hardcore? As I said, it just doesn’t appeal to me. I’m not bashing it, or saying its a terrible idea, just not for me. Sorry if you got the wrong idea.

  • AuroraXIII

I like the idea of this technology. Dual cameras mimic the human eyes.

    • KurisuMakise

Count me in on liking this idea. Plus it solves the “headset in every box” issue. Now if we can get a full Skype app to take advantage of said camera, tight integration on PSN (Even though I’d never actually video chat, unless it’s with friends or something xD), and the future is bright. I’m surprised people are flailing the “No more motion control” thing so quick. What about headtracking for Gran Turismo and stuff? Move your head a little bit to get a nice view in first person mode, sounds alright. Tracking hands for quick gestures to your squad mates in a Shooter is also an option. Or what about in an RTS, moving your units and such, there’s options which can augment the controller experience.

Can’t say I care for this. It’s a cool feature, but I probably won’t use it.

  • rockman29

    Video chat in 3D?

  • MrRobbyM

If it’s implemented well and seamless, I might just use it. Just hope it’s not another gimmick like Kinect.

People are going to end up being horribly disappointed and it’s only going to be their fault. Seriously, at this point, with all these rumors, I dont see why they aren’t also giving you a Toyota Prius as a pre-order gift so you can pick up a PS4 day one. Come on. I highly doubt the PS4 is going to pack in every Sony product under the sun.

  • Raiyu

I hope it’s not included, it will make it more expensive for an accessory I don’t even want. Hopefully it’s a separate SKU

  • Elvick

If true: In before ignorant people all over the internets say Sony are copying Microsoft.

If not: I hope there’s at least a better PS Eye, because the one used on PS3 isn’t cutting it. Especially for augmented reality. I don’t care if I have to buy it separately.

  • ShinAsura

    I’ll be turning this off

So, Nintendo is lessening focus on motion control, while Sony and Microsoft is still trying to introduce them to new players? Silly them; most that jumped on the motion bandwagon already own Wiis.

    NO MORE GIMMICKS!!

  • DenjinJ

Most things better work with tape over the lens…

  • PrinceHeir

    what about headset? :P

then again neither i’ll use so no point ^^

As long as I can turn it off, it’s fine…

  • LordKaiser

I believe this rumor is BS.

    • MrRobbyM

I believe there was a rumor earlier this week that sort of hinted at some sort of motion tracking camera. So it might be true.
