PlayStation 4 concept by Joseph Dumary.

Sony Home Entertainment vice president Hiroshi Sakamoto has teased a PlayStation 4 announcement for May or June this year.

Asked by Chile news site El Mercurio On-Line at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas whether the PlayStation manufacturer is planning a new console announcement this year, Sakamoto said:

“That’s still a big secret, but our friends at Sony Playstation are getting ready. For now, I can only say that we’re focused in the gaming event E3, scheduled for June.

“This announcement can be by then, or even before then, in May.”

Asked if it would be a “major announcement” or “complementary” one, Sakamoto responded: “Probably the first. On that date, we expect to deliver great news, but we must wait until May, at least.”

Thanks, NeoGAF.

This probably isn’t a good thing to admit, but I can’t remember really getting psyched for a gaming console or handheld since the PSP.

I really care more about the games and maybe services. I mean, as a consumer, when I hear about the “PS4″, all I’m really thinking about are the costs before potential innovation.

I’m not a savvy gaming tech person, so all the rumoured specs go over my head. Adding to that, for me personally, I’ve never really been interested in launch titles enough to get them right away, so I’m gonna need serious convincing to upgrade from my PS3.

better start saving ;D , what would make this announcement amazing is if it was accompanied by a surprise title announcement as well

Article at Gamesindustri suggests a PC based architecture and $350-400 price point.

I’m wondering if any dev has truly unlocked the power of the cell by now, if not using something similar in the PS4 won’t be worth it

I see PS4 being a top contending seller like it’s big brother the PS2.
I hear PS4 will be easy to Dev for this time around, and since it’ll have a disc drive that’ll be good as I still prefer to have my games on Physical Discs, and not be stuck with Digital. It needs to have all SEN stuff from teh PS Store, and PSN ID’s transferable to the PS4. I wouldn’t want to lose all my PSN games. Knowing SONY they’ll transfer it all over and keep it. Our Purchases need to mean something, and they mostly will.

I forgot about Full Backwards Compatibility on all PS4 models.

For SONY to Rule this years E3 like they practically did in a way.
They need to show from the Gate “GAMES”.
    Final Fantasy Versus XIII
    The Last Guardian
and whatever else SONY has up their sleeves for E3.

I can agree, but this isn’t the place for that. I would word your comment better to avoid a ban.
