    Fennekin I choose you!

The designs are cute but I still expected much more visually from one of Ninty’s most experienced 1st/2nd party studios.

[edit: they're 2nd party but I consider Game Freak Ninty's first party due to reasons listed below]

Game Freak isn’t a Nintendo first party though.

Hell, they even put a Pokemon app for the iOS.

Sorry, unfortunate choice of words. I’m aware Game Freak are a 2nd party developer but they’ve been with Nintendo since how long? Since 1996 if memory serves me right. They never produced software for other hardware than Nintendo’s and they never worked with another publishers. iOS crap I do not consider other hardware, it’s just easy money, ’tis all.

Actually, they made a game for the PS1 called Click Medic which Sony published, a game for the PC-Engine called Bazaar de Gosaru no Game de Gosaru, and 2 games for the Sega Mega Drive: Pulseman and Magical Tararuto-Kun, both of which were published by Sega.

Thanks for the explanation and sorry I did not do proper research. It’s just that nowadays GF are synonymous with Pokemon/Ninty. And thy are probably Nintendo’s only (contracted) studio that have worked on each iteration of their handheld gaming devices. So naturally I was thrilled when I heard GF developing a title for 3DS as the system can produce stunning visuals (Revelations being a case in point).

Given GF’s pedigree, experience and penchant for Nintendo’s portable gaming machines I expected to be blown away by the visuals. That the game will be fun is a no-brainer, it’s Pokemon after all, but the visuals do not look much better than B2/W2 in my humble opinion. I’ve seen much better by 3rd parties. I’m still excited but the name is kinda lame/generic (what comes after Z? Pokemon A, then Pokemon KA, then Pokemon SA – note: it’s the Japanese ordinal system I’m referring to), I find the Legendary’s designs boring and the graphics are weak.

Well there were a few titles released on other platforms but they’ve been pretty much exclusive to Nintendo for their duration. I too share your sentiments graphic wise though. Just not satisfied with the jump admittedly.

Pokemon X looks like the mystic forest creature, from Princess Mononoke, except the face.
Pokemon Y, looks like one of Ryu’s dragon dragon transformations, from Breath of Fire 4.

  • Ragiacrus

wow they all look interesting , but Chespin I choose you!

    • Rydak

I agree. I haven’t liked all three starters since Red and Blue. And lol at the infographic – Fennekin and Froakie are looking at the one they’re strong against, but Chespin is like “Shiny red ball!” ADD pokemon are alright by me.

    I need a 3DS…

    Why such bad graphics still

These graphics are great! Were you expecting HD Pokémon?

    X and Fennekin.

  • PrinceHeir

    awesome!

The Legendaries’ designs are boring (but Yveltal I guess is okay…), the starters look like they were thought up by a two year old, and two of those Pokemon were already designed, but differently. Froakie = Poliwag, Poliwhirl, and Politoed; and Finnekin = Vulpix and Ninetales. The types and categaory of animals they were based off of… are somewhat old. If this game is only going to be for the 3DS, I’m not ever buying it. If it’ll b e for the DSi or regular DS systems, I might buy it; it depends.
